[Q] Want to root my phone but........ - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys I'm new to android. and thinking to root my Samsung galaxy y 2.3.6. so when I'm searching over internet there are so many update.zip files, then where can I find reliable one that is 100% compatible for sgy. does every update.zip file differs from other?
and what are the precautions to avoid bricking?
does one click method works fine?
I don't like to have any custom Rom but just simply want to root my phone.

Why don't tou search in galaxy y forums

[Q] Does this create a backup ROM?

I have a HCL ME X1 which isn't rooted. I was going through various articles when I came across this - forums.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/51694-how-nandroid-nonsense-back-up-your-phone-without-nandroid.html.
Does this create a Backup of my ROM and can I restore it back when required?
I heard that SuperOneClick can root my device but GingerBreak didn't work standalone, so I guess it is using psneuter but I am scared of disturbing my property system with psenuter. Can someone explain how SuperOneClick works?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Using Odin to restore 2.3.3

I initially had 2.3.3 setup on my I9000M with Virgin in Canada and attempted to root it but without much success - I am able to get to clockworkmod but my internal SD is not mounting to my pc and it's not finding the cyanogen file even though it's on my external sd card - I couldn't put it on internally since it wasn't mounting.
What I would like to do is get back to what I had before - 2.3.3. I've never used Odin before so I was hoping someone could walk me through the process and what files I need?
Thanks
You're in the wrong forum dude...vibrant and I9000M is not the same...i know there is a Canadian Vibrant but is not as T-Mobile Vibrant

I mean a 2.3.3 ".app" which is an automatic installation file. So I can downgrade my phone from 2.3.6
To 2.3.3. By running my phone in installation mode.

OK now it makes some sense however as previously stated you will probably have better luck in i9000 threads. There isn't an official GB ROM for the t959.

I just couldn't find anything talking about a stock gingerbread 2.3.3 install file. And apparently my phone is impossible to root, no fastboot, no clockwork install method. Which is why I need that file.
Sent from my M865C using xda app-developers app
Like I said there is no 2.3.x stock image, however the captivate might have one. I don't know if that will work for you. Plus a stock image from any other phone will have a boot splash of device and possibly carrier.
Good luck

Anyway, try another root zip file

You might have to remove your battery too, not necessary, but better
And SuperSU is superuser.SuperSU is made by another dev, that's all

You unfortunately cannot use link2sd with stock ROM
The other thing is that even a swap file is a bad idea on the 5839I
If it is on stock ROM , bricked one already.
Dont think I will worry about it again but you should try root validator instead of
Root checker I think some apps only like superuser and dont always recognize
SuperSU you can get a flashable zip from chainfire's website if the zip at the start
Of thread wont work, easiest way to check for root is probably to try and install
Busybox by the way,
One more thing, there is a file In system/etc that prevents apps to sd by
Deleting the apps to sd files at every reboot, could this be your problem?
Samsung were a bit naughty about things when they set the
firmware up
You can delete it at your own risk, did it myself last time around but to be honest I have some fifty odd
apps installed and after that the phone lacks internal memory anyway, samsung
Havent actually done too bad a job once you get rid of the added bloatware
I hope this info helps, and on stock ROM you also have to reflash CWM everytime you wish to backup or restore through ROM manager,
Good luck sounds like you might just be frustrated over nothing, lets hope so.
Ki113Ro
have realized since last post on this subject that as long as you don't try and instal apps 2sd script you CAN install link2sd and its working i also now realize that current kernel which is called Redbend UA has ext3/ext4 type support and since succesful install of link2sd have freed up maybe 40mb of internal memory.
I also wou.ld recommend Imbawind Adrenaline boost script v3 search xda for link to download. next thing is to deodex ROM so i can apply new jelly bean style i think. I have debranded ROM after CWM backup so can restore if needed .
Thanks to all the developers and people brave enough to risk bricking there devices because of all these people devices are getting better and
thanks to samsung and htc etc for listening to the consumer and making sure the changes others make are streamlined into there ROMs the new galaxy is much quicker than the old one Thank you.
Thanks have to go also to Google and everyone connected with the Android OS
Open source rocks big time.

Grand quattro stock recovery dont allow us to perform such actions. You have to flash cwm using odin. The detailed process is mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494471
And I dont know about add bocker, removing bloatwares etc. But u can perform such actions with root uninstaller, titanium backup, adaway etc etc. I have rooted my phone just to use gl2sd soft. Actually am pretty happy with stock rom and recovery. After getting all the conception I will use those things. If you are having less knowledge then dont do anything till u know what u r doing. And obviously take backup of efs folder, its really important if u are planning to play wid ur firmware or recovery..
