Yeah this has been on pocketables over here and here also over at rootzwiki over here
Believe it or not, a large number of people used the site to either make ROMs or to restore their devices either prior to sending it back to HTC or because they had an issue with a custom ROM.
It sucks BUT it is what it is, HTC has lost a few dozen future customers and counting, over this (myself included)

If they wanted to, they could shut down this place too.
It was a great website.

here is a quote from http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...gal-tomorrow-heres-how-and-if-it-affects-you/ "Legal action might be taken against people who provide tools for others to unlock their phones". What is this "unlock" they are talking about here ? unlocking bootloader, recovery and root ? if that's the case what is even the point in having an open source OS ?

I can't see them shutting down XDA. The worst they could do is have the forums and ROM's for their phones removed and that wouldn't be productive for them. But given their current modus operandi, who knows?

Stop crying over evo 3d being locked.

Crying over a phone that has not been released cause it is locked is completely stupid. Whether it is locked and encrypted or has an instaroot button it will be hacked at some point. The only thing that changes is the method on doing so. If you have already made ur decision to not get this phone due to it being locked and encrypted then please navigate away from this section of the forum and please by all means please stop crying over this topic. The evo 3d is not unhackable it will be done its just a matter of time. If u make the decision not to get this phone at last use a better excuse. Why don't you go ask the guys over in the droid x section about encrypted bootloaders.
Says the guy that joined 2 months ago. GTFO.
You saying that its only a matter of time isn't helping either. In fact, its misleading considering that many phones in this position, notably the Droids, have yet to be cracked a year later. Besides, this is a EVO 3D topic on a home brew development site. It being incredibly limited to the purpose of this entire site is essential discussion.

Try saying this to the many of users out there still locked down thinking their phones would eventually be cracked. Ya they're still waiting...
I'm not going to waste my time on "it might be done eventually" If and when it does get cracked the next big thing will probably be coming out. Patience is a virtue for suckers.

100% agree. I was debating myself between the 3D and the SGS2 so that I can have a beast of a phone and continue with MIUI, but now that choice I guess got easier.
Maybe my post was a bit rude I apologize for that. Its not that I think we should not discuss this. I just don't think we need 10 separate topics a day doing so. I also feel this being the sole reason some people are protesting getting this phone is a bit stupid when u balance the pros and cons of this phone. I have also read that there is someone attempting to develop a way to unlock locked phones using a similar method to jailbreaking iphone. I dont remember where on google I read that. I'm not telling u that to start rumors just trying to show u it is being worked on it is not going unnoticed by the devs.

The problem with motorola phones isn't the encryption. its the fact that it re-locks once un-encrypted. they've gotten to the point of un-encrypting it, just the re-locking problem is the issue.

Doesn't change the fact that it's been well over a year and the problem still exists. The point is, yes it's POSSIBLE that this will be rootable at some point, but it's more likely that by that time there will be much better, easily rootable tech (i.e. Nexus 3) on the market.
It's not bad to have hope for a bootloader solution.
A bootloader unlock may never happen, though. You can hope for a bootloader bypass though. Just look at the Atrix. We have a bypass ready, we just need a kernel

Not sure what updates you are referring to but the Nexus gets updates first in most cases as it's "pure Google". I guess this might be bad if you are a believer in and reliant on Sense but for the AOSP group, it's AOK because it's what we are all trying to get to anyway.
I want to stick with HTC and the Evo/Evo 3D but may have to jump ship. Look on the bright side, at least our wireless provider HAS the next best thing.

I think he was probably referring to the Galaxy S II. A lot of people see the NS4G as old tech and not worth the purchase. Accordingly, they see the SGS2 as the next best thing if the EVO3D will retain the status of the locked bootloader.

There were a few cho emails in that time frame posted on FB stating it would be unlocked on shipment.
First of, thank you for trolling OP.
HTC's official statement on the evo 3d.
The phone was too far into production at the time of the unlocked bootloader announcement to be shipped with one. However they are working on unlocking the bootloader soon.
Now, I may be mistaken here, but Sprint also has say in what software the phone gets or has, and if they say no I'm pretty sure the locked bootloader stays.
Now for the reality, most of the people crying about unlocking the bootloader have no idea what they are talking about. What you should be eager for is a sticky root so we can push a recovery. Then we can start developing roms.

Your the one trolling. I am asking a legitimate question. I didnt claim to know anything so yeah I dont know what I am talking about. I made the thread to ask a question.
I was just a little confused as to why it wasnt unlocked as they said so I made the thread to get an explanation.
Then a proper title would have been "Why has HTC not unlocked the bootloader yet", not HTC lies? That is the trolling I was speaking of.
I was offering legit reasons why it may not be. If what I suspect is true we may want to be pushing for unlocked emmc/nands because if I'm not mistaken you can unlock the bootloader, and leave the nand locked and prevent anyone from changing the partitions even with root. That can mean no recovery, no roms, ect.
I can't 100% prove it yet, but I have that feeling. Hopefully someone from teamwin can prove that wrong.
Explanation is they didn't and working on it. but why are we all going after HTC it should he Sprint we go after it is there phone and if we push them the they push HTC so go email Sprint as well. They have final say in the hole thing. So if the 3d don't sell Sprint and HTC lose money and customers.

Android devices being key logged

Old but still an interesting read
http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/259568/20111201/carrier-iq-spyware-company-s-android-app.htm

Thats soooo olddd omg. There is an app called carrier iq to tell if u if you have it. Most of providers have removed and almost every single custom rom has it removed. Dude this article is form december 2011.
That's old news. Like, really old. Look at the date on the article. Verizon doesn't use CIQ on any of it's devices. It may use something else, but so far we don't know of anything, so any claims otherwise are just FUD.

I don't think they've given up either. At least HTC certainly hasn't, as for now its still the premiere flagship in their lineup. As for AT&T, they've always been agonizingly slow on updates, and have actually been doing better on the M8 than some past devices.
It also needs to be considered that AT&T/HTC included a feature that on 4.4.4 that the other versions don't have (VoLTE) so comparing the release dates is a bit apples and oranges.
Hopefully 5.0 won't be as delayed. You would think that since they now figured out the VoLTE issue, we wouldn't have a similar delay on LP. On the other hand, it would seem a bit odd to have 5.0 roll out right after 4.4.4.
Well ladies and gentlemen its official, we're the last to get the Lollipop update. Sprints M8 just got it. AT&T, theres a seat in hell for these people.
Its being worked on...shouldnt be too long till its released, thats all ill say about this topic.

Well ain't this special, the LG G3 is the first AT&T phone to get Lollipop.
How could it be that the One M8 update is not ready for release at this time?
Dejavu anyone? I remember countless of posts stating...it's not too far a way...one month a way, etc and over a half year later it finally gets released and when it does , we are still left in the dust. I don't believe a dam word from anyone, and I dont give a dam who u think u are. I will only believe it as I'm actively downloading it.

I know at&t is horrible at updates but they just barely fixed the volte so that's why it took long, and please don't disrespect the devs or anyone that contributes anything to this forum, because I bet when they release a ROM you'll be trying to flash it

True, just sucks being last. If it wasnt for AT&T having VoLTE I'd just convert to international.
Maybe they are waiting for Google to fix the memory leak issue plaguing current LP versions?
