I have just updated from Leo's 2.6 to 2.7.1 and when it booted up I noticed I had no signal at all so I rebooted with no difference. I then booted into CWM and flashed Cognition, which had the same issue when it booted. So I restored an old CWM MIUI backup with no difference.
I have removed and reinserted the sim card and tried my wife's too with no difference.
Any suggestions or is this phone a write-off needing a hardware repair? Is it possible the flashing of a rom can kill the radio?
Flash a modem
Enter networks APN settings manually
Check your IMEI is correct if not restore your backed up EFS folder .

Just checked and the is no IMEI, wifi Mac or Bluetooth address. How can this have happened from a flashed rom.
I don't recall backing up my efs. Would anything have done this automatically?

A few custom roms have started to backup EFS in the install script .
Flashing a rom is a well known breaker of EFS/IMEI .

Thanks that helped and I managed to solve the issue, although where previously the /efs folder was always read only, it's now the opposite.
Also, can someone tell me if, when first booted, the wifi and bluetooth have 'unavailable' next to their address in the status screen on a reboot until first used? Mine do now but I can't recall if they did before. However, as soon as they're used the wifi mac address appears for example.

What do you mean by status screen? ill have a look on mine for you.
EDIT: I see what you mean now and have checked. Yes mine are unavaliable at first boot before connecting.
Superb, cheers mate. Looks like my phone is fully functioning again. Scary 4-5 hours that was.
Just need to find out the default permissions for everything in the /efs folder now and set it back to what they should be.
Could someone please list the permissions of the files and folders in their /efs folder please? I just want to make sure mine are back as they should be should any rogue app try to mess around with the contents.
Cheers in advance.

One last question, do you have the permissions of the /efs folder itself if possible? Sorry to be a pain.

I am currently on stock 2.2 , I have cwm recovery, and when I try to update, after the Ron 2.3 rom is downloaded, the phone turns off to patch with recovery mode. The thing is, since I have cwm recovery. The phone just sits there, on it's clockwork mod recovery main menu. I need help to get pass this, maybe how to get back to stock recovery, or can anyone upload the stock official 2.3 rom so I can flash from cwm? Thank u for reading this.
Should be able to find what you need here.
Help.
Ummm. I know about this, but the thing is, I dot want to lose all my apps I have in the phone. I there a way to back up apps and contacts so I can have the same apps/contacts/emails?
Your contacts should be backed up with your google account so I wouldn't worry about that. For your apps, use titanium backup. Emails? The emails aren't actually on the device so you won't be losing anything, when you set up your account(s) again they will be there.
a bit more help again.
I have backed up all my apps with titanium. To recover my apps after flashing, do i have to download titanium backup again and hit recover? Also, I have a macbook. I have a vmware installed, I have all drivers installed for vmware, and whenever I plug in my phone to my computer, and hit, "connect to windows" in Vmware, nothing will ever pop up. I'm thinking that maybe windows isnt succefully responding with the mac. Is there a certain easy use program like Odin that can work on the Mac? if not, I will just get my laptop monitor fixed, or just put all the files into a flash drive, bring it to my office, and do it from there.
Thank you!

I was actually just talking about this in another thread but, to answer your question, I honestly been successful in getting my macbook to recognize the fascinate in download mode although I can mount the SD card and transfer files fine (and even ADB, on gingerbread at least). I was trying to use heimdall as opposed to running a odin in a VM though. I did a little poking around and it seems like a common issue with the galaxy S phones and macs. Never ended up finding a surefire way to make it work so I just use a windows machine when I need to bust out odin. Sorry I can't offer a solution, but if you have access to a windows machine it'll be much less of a headache.
Oh, and I haven't used titanium in a while, but yeah you just restore the backed up apps after flashing a rom. I believe the free version is limited in some ways and you can't do batch operations. Although I would try to start fairly fresh after the update, only restoring the apps with data that you can't afford to lose. Sometimes restoring data on system apps will cause issues, although if you're just going from stock 2.2 to 2.3 then you'll probably be ok restoring most things.
Thanks
Thank You!
I have succefully flashed it from a windows machine.
I am restoring all the apps right now.
Thanks for responding !
No problem! Hopefully you won't need odin enough to where it's too inconvenient to use a windows machine.
Oh and thank you for using the "thanks" button too! I don't really like when people tell others to hit their thanks button since IMO it's kinda incongruent with the whole point of voluntarily 'thanking' someone. But thank you, I appreciate it!
Hi, I am currently using a YP-G70 INLT device, I tried out a bunch of ROM, like AOKP and CM9 and MIUI and stuffs, but when I need the fully working device with camera, bluetooth, etc I returned to Stock Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware!
Problem is, after the first restore and a very very long boot, it always show up the device set up and no root, the apps are still there, but I have to set up Google Play again, set my name and my Google Accounts. And there are NO ROOT!, I can't use Titanium Backup, Root Explorer,...
I turned off my device and restore it again, it works completely, it's always like that, needs twice restore for rooted, working device!
It wastes a lot of time, so any idea to fix this some how!?
I had this problem with my US, too. I think it's caused by trying to wipe it and then restore. I found that if the only thing you do in CWM is restore, it works the first time.

This is not exactly a problem but it is how the Android system is designed. The first restore only restores most of the important system files and a few other bits. The rest of the data is restored on the second restore. The only way to fix this is to completely redesign the android system and make your own mobile OS so the best thing is just to remember to restore twice

If anyone Owns the dopo td-1010 and still has all stock system apps there is a very easy way that you could really help me out! all you would have to do is install titanium backup and make a back up of every single app in the list (besides things you have installed) and then upload the backups somewhere for me . you can get titanium back up here: http://www22.zippyshare.com/v/86267062/file.html . you have to have the device rooted in order to use it. you can root the dopo td-1010 with this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidroot/ ( works perfectly on this device, i have done it myself) PLEASE if there is anyone out there that can help me with this PLEASE get back to me as soon as possible.
You scrath my back, and I'll scratch yours
I have the TD-1010, I can and am will to help you out here, but I am running into a problem you seem to have already figured out.
I was googling the Internets for drivers to TD-1010 for Windows, for the same program/script/batch file you were recommending for rooting the TD-1010. I need to get said drivers before I am able to root the TD-1010 and backup redistribute said OS to you my good sir. At current the script can't find the device without the drivers. Hopefully I'll hear from you soon so I can do you a favor in return.
PS do you have the problem with it randomly freezing, or is that just me...?

I have never used titanium backup before, i thought that it would work, but it does not appear to actually back the applications up, just the settings and configurations for them or something. unfortunately, That will not help me fix this. it looks like the only way to do it is to use this app: http://www15.zippyshare.com/v/78017991/file.html . it is called "root uninstaller pro". i didnt want to ask someone to use this if i didnt have to because it is how i messed mine up, but if you make sure not to delete anything while your in there and just back everything up it will not harm your device at all. im a dumbass and started removing stuff i didnt really know what it was and then i lost my back up so i could not reinstall. thank you again for all the time you have taken on this already. would you be willing to use the root uninstaller program to make proper backups that will work for me?

lol... i just had to resresh the app list and then they were there to restore.
YAYYYYYY!!!!!
It worked! I can not tell you how much I appreciate it! thank you so much.
So I looked up info on both backup programs, and they are both equivalent to using the add/remove OR uninstall feature of windows. I used Nandroid for the full images you already should have the link to my drop box. Since this is a full copy of my system I do require you not distribute it and remove any of my account settings you may find. Feel free to keep any of the apps I have already installed (they were all free anyways). Good luck

Drivers
IMaybe a little help? I have been following your post and cannot seem to get the drivers to install. I have tried on both w7 and xp. Both computers see it in usb mode but once switched to usb debugging and directed to the driver file you posted it gives me the error the error message incorrect drivers. Any suggestioned would be greatly appericated.
Titanium back up creates compressed file with apk.gz extension. That is where the app is and you can use 7zip or your favorite util to get tin the install file which will have a .apk extension. Once you do that you can install the app. Copy the app to SD or via cloud drive like dropbox and install.
Hi everyone
I have a GS3 I9300 that I have made a CWM nandroid backup of (the phone is working fine). For reasons irrelevant to this, I have restored this backup onto a different I9300 and all is working as it should except wifi. Whenever I try to connect to a wifi network it always comes up with "authentication error" regardless of what password is put in. I am 100% definitely putting in the correct passwords (tried changing the passwords too just in case) and it still doesnt work.
I have done a factory reset on the phone to test wifi, and it does work without the backup loaded on. I thought this would indicate an issue with the backup, so I booted back into recovery and did an advanced restore and just selected data (no system, recovery, cache etc) and the issue still persists.
As far as I can tell this points towards an issue with the data backup of the original phone. I have tried various things to reset the wifi settings, such as forgetting the network, removing and resetting the wpa_supplicant.conf file, as well as various other methods and none have worked so far.
I think what I need to do is completely reset the wifi settings to stock defaults (being that wifi worked fine without the nandroid backup data). Can anyone advise on how to do this? I can't seem to figure it out.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
This sort of problem will always be data.
Try using titanium and wipe data for "wifi access points"
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I just checked in titanium and under wifi access points, there is the "explore" option under storage and it shows the file path as /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf. I have already deleted this file in an adb shell and it didn't change anything. I can't see any option in titanium to clear data for this either, am I missing something?
Oh looks like you can't do it any more.
Tried deleting all networks in wifi settings?
You may have to wipe and restore with titanium
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah I have done that. It appears that there is some setting that isn't accessible through the normal phone GUI and needs to be removed or modified through a file explorer or ADB or something. I just need to find out what that setting actually is and where it's located.
Is there a "reset network settings" type of option? Or an option to reset wifi data through an engineering menu or something?
Not that I'm aware of.
Best bet is to wipe and restore as little system data as possible.
These things are hard to track down. You have to restore one thing st a time.
I once had fc in sound settings. Turned out it was because id restored wallpaper settings.
Good luck
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I finally managed to sort it out. The file I needed to delete was the wpa_supplicant.conf file, which I thought I had already deleted through adb shell. It must not have deleted it (maybe I forgot to mount system as r/w). The file is located at /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf - I just manually navigated there with a file explorer and deleted it.
Thanks for you help with this, I probably wouldn't have figured it out if I hadn't messed around with Titanium so thanks for the suggestion.
Edit - is there a way to mark this thread as solved? Sorry I haven't posted here much, just a lurker.
Thanks for posting your solution.
If you edit post 1 then advanced edit, you can change the title

Updated title. Thanks again
Hey, sorry to dredge this one up, but it seems to be the most relevant to me.. My situation at the moment is exactly the same as the Op, took a backup of an I-9300 using CWM, after restoring this on a different I-9300, I find that everything works except that when I try to connect to any wifi network, it gives me an authentication error.
I've tried deleting the wpa_supplicant.conf through a file explorer, and I'm still getting the same issue.. I'm not sure where to look for the data in Titanium to delete? does anyone have any suggestions for more to try?
Thanks,
Jono
