[Q] How do I choose stock firmware for my region? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
My phone details are as follows:
I9100XWLPT
Base Firmware: I9100XWLPT (4.0.4)
Region: Europe
Country United Kingdom / Ireland
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 27 July 2012
Modem: XXLQ6
CSC: XEULPA
And this is supported by networks in my region (Pakistan). But unfortunately this has the emmc brick bug as well. If I flash the following firmware using Odin then what kinda issues I will have to face? Will my network support it? And do I need to make a backup of efs folder before flashing? How can I choose the right firmware? PLEASE GUIDE I HAVE NO IDEA.
I9100XXLPQ
Base Firmware: I9100XXLPQ (4.0.3)
Region Poland (XEO)
Build Date: 9th March 2012
Modem: XXLPQ
CSC: OXALPQ
Thanks in advance!

You need to do some searching by yourself, that is what the search function is for. EPS Pro for backing up EFS folder: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546 Make a backup before flashing Siyah Kernel, and make sure you have root in order for backup to work.
You can just flash Siyah Kernel v4.1.5 via Odin to prevent brickbug in ICS v4.0.4. Look at my rooting guide in my sig, just change the CF-Root file with Siyah Kernel. Refer here: www.gokhanmoral.com/public/files/siyahkernel/v4/Siyah-s2-v4.1.5.tar
In case you are unsure what brickbug is, the stock 4.0.4 kernel has MMC_CAP_ERASE enabled which bricks your phone when a wipe data command is used in stock recovery. Siyah kernel deals with this by disabling MMC_CAP_ERASE. This command needs to be enabled for the brick to occur, so don't worry about having to change your ROM.

But if I plan to unroot my phone latter on then I will have to get it back on stock and If I flash the same stock 4.0.4 then I wont be able to wipe data thats why I was asking about LPQ. Will it work for me?

Well if you wished to unroot it and return it to stock 4.0.4 again, you would just be where you are now. Yes, you can flash 4.0.3 if you want, although I struggle to understand why you would return it to stock at a later date anyway.
If your network struggles to pick up a good signal on it, there are many modems out there that you can flash to make your network signal stronger. Refer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950

[Q] Question about ROM and Basebands

I have an unbranded and unlocked S3. My original ROM Firmware was
PDA:LE8 PHONE:LE8 CSC:LE4
My baseband isI9300XXLF2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
I loaded a new ROM
I9300XXALF2
Base Firmware: I9300XXALF2 (4.0.4)
Region Europe
Country: United Kingdom
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 5 June 2012
Modem: XXLF2
CSC: OXALF2
Change List: 671647
My firmware has changed but shouldn't the Baseband change as well? I also was surprised that all of my apps and everything were still there. I thought this would be wiped out on a new ROM. Do I need to worry about the Baseband and what is it? I am also curious because I did all this to get the latest OTA. I still am unable to get it. When I sign up for the software updates should I say UK as my country even tho I am in the USA. Will it matter?
LF2 IS the latest OTA.
can you post a link with your stock rom?
Baseband is Modem and like the CSC it is not always upgraded with each firmware revision .
It is also flash able on its own from the stock roms thread as per instructions .
Likewise CSC and also likewise Kernels .

Upgraded to stock 4.0.3 before and rooted, can i upgrade to stock 4.0.4?

Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question. When I first bought my UK unlocked I9100, it had Gingerbread on it. I then upgraded to the stock 4.0.3 ICS and then rooted with CF-Root v.5.4 LP7 as per instructions posted here on XDA.
Here are my current stats now...
I9100XWLP7
baseband version: I9100XXLPS
kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913
[email protected] #3
build number: IML74K.XWLP7
CF-Root v5.4 LP7
Yesterday, I got an automatic notification on my phone telling me there is a software update. I'm assuming this is the same thing as the stock 4.0.4 firmware posted on these forums...
I9100XWLPT
Base Firmware: I9100XWLPT (4.0.4)
Region: Europe
Country United Kingdom / Ireland
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 27 July 2012
Modem: XXLQ6
CSC: XEULPA
Change List: 941023
Can I upgrade by hitting OK on the phone to the automatic update or by doing it through Kies? Will it break the root, or worse screw up the phone because it was rooted? If it just undoes the root without doing damage, how would I re-root? If it keeps the root intact, that would be the ideal situation.
Thanks!
It will break root. But if you make update, never use CWM on stock kernel (hardbrick bug enabled).
You can re-root by flashing CF-Root.

Thanks for the quick reply. So if I stick with stock firmwares and CF-root, I don't have to worry about bricking, right? I assume the instructions in the first post of this thread is what I need to follow...

Thanks again.
can't he not just use KIES in order to update safely to 4.0.4 ?

From what I understand, I can either upgrade via Kies or flash the same firmware that's listed in the forums. And then when I root, I take it I follow these steps...
Instructions For Rooting ICS :
Extract the Rooted Kernel
Open the included Odin
Put your device into Download MODE
Click PDA and select CF-Root-SGS2_*-v5.3-CWM5.tar
Then finally click START!
From this page...

does one need to re root every time there is a update ?
sorry if this is a silly Q but this is my first android based phone

The file you want will be here but if you have installed 4.3 you can't just go back to 4.0.4, you will corrupt your EFS file then you phone will really be useless unless you can restore all that as well, read up on downgrading and EFS issues in my signature, search the forum and General Section before you attempt this regarding downgrading from Android 4.3.

You may or may not get official updates if you flash firmware . It all depends upon the codes presented by your phone .
The firmware you link to .s UK 4.3 multi networks .
Flashed the firmware everything works accept I can’t now register on the 3 Network. Any other firmware recommendations?
Cheers

I can see my IMEI when I go settings, so basically have I goosed my phone?
You may find your phone was on such an old firmware for a reason, usually a botched repair of the efs folder.
Or do you mean the network lock has returned?

The BTU firmware is UK and Europe generic rom, it will work on any network but if your phone was previously locked to another network then the sim lock can return when the rom is flashed, so it may only recognise O2 or Vodafone sims for example, you can try different sims in the phone to see if they work.
Type *#1234# into your keypad and check the CSC shows as I9300OXAGMK6
If the CSC is correct then the phone should identify your sim so try a factory reset, it will wipe the phone data and reset it.
Thanks chaps!! Ended up swapping out the phone! Lets just say it was rooted in a sneaky way. Flashed my new phone with the firmware above and its working like a dream!! Thanks again!

[Q] S3 i9300 german stock-firm version

Hi all,
I have a question about what version of stock to flash.
- I have rooted and flashed Slimbean on the phone ages ago.
- Back then i runned into a problem where the new modem version was flashed into the phone, and had the IMEI problem etc..
- I could not remember what version modem was installed originally. but i managed to got it working with i9300xxemg4
Now i have some problems with Slimkat or CM11, so i want to flash back to stock, before making the update to kitkat.
- I found the original stock on samsung-updates dot com, but i am not sure if i can safely flas the following version:
Region: MBC (germany)
PDA: I9300XXUGND2 CSC: I9300MBCGND1 MODEM: I9300XXUGNA8 CHANGELIST: 2429075 BUILD DATE: 02.04.2014
My phone being bought in Germany, should logically work with this modem and firware, correct ?
Or should i continue to look for a version that offers the same modem version i have installed currently EMG4 ?
PS: I will be flashing with Mobile ODIN pro, i guess this should be no problem ?
Thanks for any help in advance,
kamaradski
