Hi,
Short story:
(My phone is a UK BTU unit - unlocked)
I was running Omega v36.
In my infinite wisdom I tried investigating hard swap. I cocked it up!
Now my i9300 sits on the Samsung GT-I9300 screen.
I can access download mode and Odin can use this
I can also access recovery mode (stock or another I can flash through Odin)
There only seems to one ROM that I can install which is a stock 3 ROM.
Upon install, it has no network or wireless connectivity.
Also on the stock recovery screen it says it cannot find \efs.
I've searched high and low, tried many different ROMS/CSC/MODEM/RECOVERY options and cannot get it to use any ROM that allows me some connectivity.
I have also tried looking for how to recover the EFS partition. I don't have a backup, BUT I do have a nandroid backup that has an efs.ext4.tar which does seem to contain the EFS folder stuff.
Can anyone help me get this thing working again?
TIA!
Can you not flash the backup of the efs folder you have?

No, tried using the tar file in Odin and it crashes. It's fine with the others.
Should also mention - I have tried Kies. Flash went through, but upon reboot it was stuck at the Sammy screen again (the GT-I9300 one).
Don't know if it's relevant but I'll post it anyway
The Build number of the ROM I can get to install and run is IMM76D.I9300XXALE8
Kernel 3.0.15-554452-user
Baseband Unknown
Under status it shows
Network Unknown
Mobile network type Unknown
Service state Out of service
ERI Version Not available
IMEI Unknown

That sounds like an amazing suggestion, which I havent tried.
But.....this still wouldn't solve the EFS partion missing thing...would it?
And, does anyone know where on my phone the efs folder should go? (I'm sure we all know the repurcussions of it going in the wrong place, typos etc etc)
Cheers.
First, clean the mess you (possibly) made using one of these
then, verify condition of your connections...
then, refer for further actions (if you still will have problem) here
Ok, perhaps I'm missing something here...
I don't have root access on the phone. Via USB all I can see is the default folders it lets you see.
I'm unable to connect by WiFi (thats one of the issues), so I can't download any native android apps that may help.
I CAN put stuff on the External SD card, but without having full and unlimited access to the phone memory I don't understand how I am going to copy the efs folder to where it needs to go.
I can't get any data by GSM/HSDPA, as it shows no SIM.
I have tried to flash modems but this didn't help.
Please help. I'd really like this phone to be working by the end of today (UK time )
So after flashing my phone like loads of times today, it has become apparent that pretty much everyone hosts files on hotfile so these take like forever to download and I'm still no nearer to getting full access on my phone and having a usable phone.
I tried a reverse tether, but its unable to run correctly because I dont have root (with a view to allowing me to dl some stuff to phone)
Altho I was able to install Superuser (as an apk on external SD card), I get no popup asking for su access.
This is really getting frustrating now. I cant be the only one to have this problem? I've been trying to fix this all day long
Kies/Odin/CSC/PDA/PHONE
Incidentally, Kies has only recognized the device once - that was when I did an emeregency recovery thing in it.
Otherwise it just keeps showing as connecting..........
Anyone? Ppppppplease....
It is pretty normal. KIES is conecting, bcs stupid Windows is trying to update the drivers.
When connecting to KIES, disable PC internet connection.
alternatively, write down in KIES your serial number from sticker, and download firmware prior to it.
But, honestly, if I'd be you, I'd try RESURRECTION ROM given by me in previous post.
I'm not sure if it can helps you, but it worth to have a try.

Thanks. Software looks good and cloud downloads are amazingly fast. Trying it right now! Fingers crossed
EDIT: Well, 1st flash didn't go so well. Flashed ok, but upon reboot same problem...stuck at the Samsung GT-I9300 screen. Now trying a different firmware (strangely, the 3 one I seem to be having some luck with on Odin).
EDIT2: Managed to get that firmware installed - but still no EFS partition/folder so no connectivity.
EDIT3: I DO LIKE THAT SOFTWARE THO. Very nice 2nas!
EDIT4: Ok, after much messing I managed to get my EFS folder back. It still wont let me connect to a network, although it does show networks. I also still cannot connect to a WiFi (my own!). Every time I reboot the phone, the EFS folder gets deleted and I have to copy over again. So guys, over to you...any ideas?
Well, good news.... :victory:
I flashed and rooted using 2nas software. Very good it is! I recommend it to newbs wanting to root.
As stated in 1st post, I had a copy of my EFS folder in a efs.ext4.tar.
After much messing about involving me having to copy over the EFS folder several times and sometimes it working and others it not...
I saw someones post about baseband (in S3 case Modem/CSC). I flashed one of each through Odin.
It went into Factory mode (dunno what that was about)...I copied over my EFS folder...and voila...network running...IMEI restored....
I still dont seem to be able to get Wifi...but thats a minor niggle...I'm on an unlimited data plan anyway...fortunately.
I've yet to reboot to see if the EFS folder sticks...but at least I now know I can get it to a working condition-ish. There must be some dev's here who know the answer to that one..
So a huge warning to all....make sure you have multiple copies of your EFS folder...it's saved me!! :good:
Now, gotta go see if I can get that Wifi working...
Thanks....a great community here.
Oh, first thing I'm doing....taking another backup of that EFS folder!!!
Well taken from a post of kocweb

Here is the exact solution for this problem which i have recently had!
You have to root your phone and install Terminal Emulator from Google Play.
Open terminal emulator and type as ;
su
rm /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
rm /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
reboot
You now should not see the that message anymore. Its because of an EFS corruption. ( Thanks to yesilcin*com (sawgent) ) for exact solution.
Hope it helps!!!

So it seems the EFS folder install is fixed. I should mention I installed HC-kTool to restore EFS folder from my efs.ext4.tar which I placed in /sdcard on my phone (thats the internal memory, and where you end up if you connect to your PC with USB cable)
Thanks guys.....now...dare I reflash with Omega v39...
Hi all!
Thats my first post, i comming from swizerland, and my english is not good!! sorry for that!
I think i have the same problem but a bit difrent. i have translate my question with google hope that works and you understand it:
Hi all.
'm New here, please little indulgence if I'm doing something wrong: o)
Have unfortunately a boat trailer in the process
Mobile: Galaxy S3
Wanted to put on my cell phone that is flashed via odin this new FW:
I9300XXELL4_I9300AUTELK2_I9300XXELL4_HOME.tar.md5
Everything without problems, CF root on it, not a problem.
Then Triangle instaled away, not a problem.
I saw the EFS should secure their first choice, this Ktool downloaded (play store).
backed up, but nothing was available (I think becouse partion is named "sdcard0" and not "sdcard" (??))
Ok then I have a root folder app downloaded wanted sdcard0 change in sdcard but dosn`t work..
Then I wanted to check Ktool, the difrent funtions and am accidentally come to "ESF format" (in german "format is like *avi*, *mkv* *wmv*and have also confirmed this ..
Result -> phone stops at the boot logo.
New flash via Odin tried but without success.
factory reset and reset cache on Recovery also without success.
Half the south death I think I'm not. Since model name in the download mode available.
Luckily I have a backup of EFS i think from omega rom on my sd ext:
efs_01Oct2012-1028.tar.gz
when i open it with 7zip i have that: efs_01Oct2012-1028.tar
open it again then that :

EDIT: Okey i have flashed now 3part firmware with pit file : I9300XXALE8_I9300OJVALE7_OJV now i can boot!!! ....but only boot... now i ned help to fix my EFS ;o)
Follow the steps I posted in my earlier threads...first thing you'll need to do is root your phone though.
I was lucky as I had some .apk files around which helped. You may need to search on the forum or otherwise.
To help you, heres what I used
Ariza Patch - can be found on forum
Superuser - can be found in something called Galaxy SIII Firmware Downloader
root explorer - unsure where this came from (any kind of explorer will do)
Busybox - unsure where my copy came from, but can be found around and on Play store
Android Terminal - can be found on Play store.
First thing...root your device
second extract your backed up /efs folder to the folder called /efs on your phone memory.
Try Wifi. It may work. If it does, you can get any other apps you need on Play store.
Once you've copied the files, open your android terminal and follow the last part of my previous post.
That should get you up and running.
Good luck.
thx IRPnet for your post!
but problem is now, after the "working" firmware i have flashed an other firmware "german" and after that... again bootloop!! :crying:

After you have used Odin, are you going going into recovery and doing a wipe?
You need to WIPE/FACTORY RESET and then WIPE CACHE.
Your phone should then boot up
Try that, let me know how you get on.
I'm no expert on these things, so if someone else wants to join in this thread...feel free.
I can only relate to my experience. Although your experience does sound similar.

after wipe/factory reset shoult i restart to recovery or do the wipe cache without reboot to recovery?
i doing that without reboot to recovery but no chance... still the same...
in recovery it also says : E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) --> like i said.. no efs in my phone..
You can do both at the same time. It should then reboot.
Don't worry about the error...that will show until you got it recovered.
You've got to get the phone booting correctly before you can restore the EFS partition from your backup.
Once the phone boots up, you may find that with your SIM inserted you get no phone signal - it might even say that you have no SIM inserted. You will also not be able to get Wifi. Thats why you need the apk's for the software I mentioned on your external SD card.
Now, if you know how to use adb you can push them with that (if you know how, I don't).
If the phone boots correctly, your PC should see it and you SHOULD be able to copy files.
Thats the important part.

So, I tried to root my phone, following Chainfire's guide. I did everything EXACTLY as I was supposed to, but after flashing the kernel in Odin, with XWKDD_insecure.tar, the device no longer worked. It rebooted into a screen with a grey battery and the loading loop, but nothing happened. I didn't even get a chance to use SuperOneClick, because the program just stalled when it said "Waiting for device...". After about 5 minutes, I held down the power button, and then the GS2 logo appeared with a yellow exclamation sign underneath it. And SuperOneClick still didn't register the phone.
I pulled the battery out, booted into download mode again, then tried to install the factory firmware I downloaded from samfirmware.com. But then this happened:

So what do I do now? I have a choice of booting into download mode, or turning the phone on normally, and getting a screen that says the update fail to load. Is there something else I can do to reset factory settings, or is that the end of my brand new phone
U could still try to reflash the rom again, check if the file u downloaded is not corupted.
You have to bear in mind that Odin can be temperamental, redownload a firmware and flash it again.
Going off memory here as im not at my pc but it looks like you have too many things in to your odin program.
first thing i notice is that you have the "Re-Partition" box selected, it was my understanding you only need Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checked.
You could also try getting the most upto date version of Odin too which is v1.85.
Also you have entered something in to the PIT section, when i flashed my device with the firmwear from samfirmware (I9100XWKDF) i didnt put anything in the PIT section.
Maybe try changing them and i hope it works.
Crucio
Make sure that in ODIN NOTHING is checked, except the "Auto reboot" and "F. Reset Time" checkboxes. Press the "PDA" button, and select the "XWKDD_insecure.tar" file.
- Press "Start". ODIN you should now be flashing the kernel, and the device should reboot.
Why do you have Re-Partition,phone,css selected ?
Prey that you dont bricked it
Looks like you get first to brick an SGS 2 prize any way .
jje
Not a prize i would like to win heh..
Lets just hope it can be flashed again.

They have Phone and CSS selected as they were flashing the firmware with the version from samfirmware.com (the one that removes branding and updates the battery usage part) not just the kernel to root the device.
Surely if this device is in a limbo it would make sense to flash this (stock firmware) before flashing a rooted kernel?
id guess the first attempt of the root failed due to the re-partition box being checked but im not 100% on that.
im a rookie to
I just read the instructions to root...
Maybe it works if repartition is not checked and reflash?
I hope someone with better skills then me can help.
If i had done this i wouöd die of a broken hearth
I remember how afraid i was to flash my TyTn2 the first time..And i didnt have any problem
yeah im a rookie also, lets hope someone with a bit for knowledge can help this guy out if we havent ^^
my heart would sick too, it did a bit when i flashed the firmware and it was german that was fixed easy tho lol.
The repartition basicly changest the size of some system partitions based od the PIT file, its not recomended to use the repartition, but that shouldnt be the problem why the ODIN failed.
As he said he is able to go to download mode so he should be safe, just reflash the rom or try other rom versions and flash them.

The screenshot I posted was from after the damage was done. I had already given up on trying to root my phone, and was trying to install the firmware from SamFirmware, in the hope that it would get my device back to factory settings.
Initially, when I flashed the kernel with Odin, nothing was selected except for "Auto reboot" and "F. Reset Time", and the only file loaded was the XWKDD_insecure.tar on the PDA line. I was also using Odin3 v1.85 at the time. The firmware I downloaded from SamFirware came with v1.83 and I didn't even notice that it wasn't the latest version.
Can someone give me a step by step of what I can do to completely wipe the device, and restore it to factory settings, as that's what I was trying to do, and it clearly didn't work?

that's exactly what you're doing when you're flashing a complete new firmware with repartition ;-)
(which is what you did/ or tried to)
that is on your screen you're flashing modem/csc/full pda etc aka complete wipe and factory setting reset
repartition formats the memory by wiping the partition table and creating a new one (its like "quick format" on a pc)

I don't know if I should be comforted by the fact that I tried to do the right thing, or disheartened by the fact that doing the right thing didn't solve my problem.
Is there perhaps another way to go about the whole process? Should I try another ROM? The one I used was a European XWKDF Gingerbread 2.3.3, but I also have the Russian XEKDB firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057535 - I think it's 2.1.1.
there is not much experience with the SGS2 yet and I don't have one yet personally. Never saw that one error but form the SGS1 experience i'd say try reflashing, and try flashing other SGS2 firmwares ;-)
i havnt flashed mine yet but will wait till i get insurance for the phone because (and i mention this so that people can do the same thing if they wish).. if it does brick then the option of it "accidentally falling onto a busy motorway" is open to me lol
OK, looking at your screenshot, you flashed too many files, and reformated.
Follow this guide.
http://androidadvices.com/how-to-up...ii-i9100-to-gingerbread-xwkdd-2-3-3-firmware/
Make sure you download the files from there as well. I have flashed mine with them after I broke a few things playing, and it worked fine after.
This will get you up and running again.
Then for Root, go to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
Download the XWKDD_insecure.tar file
Odin, Without repartion checked.
Only files to link are the pit file, in pit and XWKDD_insecure.tar in PDA
Then you can use SuperOneClick to add root.
Don't panic, I doubt its a brick.
Good luck

It is fairly hard to brick a Samsung properly, without actually trying... Hope that's some reassurance.
The fact you can get into download mode is a reassurance, as that should be the key. I've not owned a Samsung device, so I won't try and advise how to fix it, but I'd agree about trying that above link to install the "beta" firmware.
ODIN is pretty good, but there isn't much experience in flashing these yet, as I don't know of any devs with them. I might go out at the weekend and get one, but I'll not be starting properly on it until June realistically...
Let us know if the fine folks here have resolved the problem. Looking and learning from peoples experience before I make the leap and root.

Thank you djkid for providing it in this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657262
But anyway... I'm stupid because I flashed it (I know, I know, I was too eager and in a rush to flash something). Phone boots ok and everything, but it complains about the USB Storage being blank (or in an unsupported format), even though nothing is connected to it. If I put a MicroSD card in, it constantly shows "safe to remove SDCard".
I assume the partitions have been set incorrectly? I've been looking all over for an AT&T stock ODIN (that is full like the Rogers one mentioned above) but no luck. I downloaded and tried a few of the regular AT&T stock ODINs in the forum (thank you for those posts), but they only contain certain parts and they don't solve the USB / MicroSD issue I'm having.
Can anyone help?
Just go back and get rhe correct Odin3 files, put phone in download mode, start Odin, connect phone, and flash. I put the Rogers rom and modem on my phone last week (very laggy).

I have flashed stock AT&T roms via Odin, but the USB Storage / MicroSD issue remains.
Is it because the stock AT&T roms I am trying only come with certain parts?
i.e. the Rogers one I flashed (found in the forum) had a few files... the PIT file, CDC file, along with the system/modem etc. None of these AT&T stock roms I have downloaded have these kinds of parts (though that isn't stopping me from trying them out of desperation)

I'm quite certain that the ATT stock odin .tar file is complete...I've used it numerous times.
It has to be another issue...IMHO
And you are pulling the stock odin .tar from the everything thread ??
this is the one I'm talking about...and have used many times....g

With all this said, do we need to add something to the Super Page? I have the off ICS odin, totally bloated by ATT , (only 1gb in size) which is on my server profile, just never push it out or added it to the Super Page. Do or should we list it...on the Super Page ?

Yes - the big RAR.
I will try it again then. I will do whatever it takes to get this thing back to normal. When flashing this one, should I check "re-partition"? or just leave all check boxes as they come....

Instead of having to go back all the way to gingerbread, use this odin file and flash official stock ICS which it has recovery, modem, kernel and ROM.

Simply run it ....don't re-partition ....let Odin do that ..
And GB or ICS is your choice ...but the original device partitions are GB ...not that it matters entirely, but if you want box stock ...it's the GB ...g

Alright. Loaded up Odin 1.85 (from the Super Everything thread), and grabbed the ICS stock recommended above (filename:
I717UCLF6_I717ATTLF6_I717UCLF6_HOME.tar.md5)
Flashing looked like it was going well!
Until it died at amss. Here is the log:

Since the majority of the flash finished, I thought I'd reboot the phone. Booted up OK (into what looks like the initial AT&T setups), but the USB issue remains. In the pic below, there is no USB anything attached to the phone, and there is a 1gig MicroSD card in the slot. (It offers to format the USB storage, which does nothing, and the internal sd storage doesn't seem to be recognized, and the external sd storage always says it is safe to remove it)

I would appreciate that if you can. All I'm seeing on rootgalaxynote is ICS roms, ICS leaked roms and ones that look like custom roms.
The ROM I just flashed ( I717UCLF6_I717ATTLF6_I717UCLF6_HOME.tar.md5 ) -- is it not stock? Or is it that since it's ICS, it's too new for me to flash to get back to basics....

Alright. Downloaded and flashed attstockrom.tar (stock gingerbread AT&T) via Odin, but it didn't seem to help. It still has the USB Storage icon in the notification bar, saying it has an unsupported file system. Attempt to format it results in nothing... notification stays.
For this flash, I removed the MicroSD card. Flash was successful, and booted into the system. Below is a screenshot of the Storage area of Settings.
I'm thinking that the Rogers flash I originally did (to start this whole mess) maybe set the partitions wrong (or just different from this AT&T model phone)... is this possible? I don't know much about Samsung flashes (yet!). Also - I notice that the Odin 1.85 I grabbed (from the Super Everything thread) came with a PIT file (named u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit) - but I don't want to flash it without knowing what it is exactly for. Any ideas on this? High brick risk?
Brick risk? Hell no. The pit file tells Odin how to partition the phone. Use it and see if your results are at all different.

Crap. Loading the PIT file (u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit) along with the stock AT&T GB wouldn't get the flashing started. It failed at the PIT check part (and I notice on the phones screen it says "SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT"

Thanks for sticking with me
I just want this USB Storage / MicroSD problem to be fixed. This is an AT&T i717. It all started when I flashed a stock Rogers ROM. The stock Rogers rom had a file for each field in ODIN (PIT, BOOTLOADER, PDA, PHONE, and CSC). I think that it re-partitioned the phone (in some foreign way that the AT&T phone no longer sees the MicroSD. It also no longer sees the internal storage. Also, the notification bar complains that USB Storage is on, and whatever is attached to the phone is in an unsupported format.). There is no USB anything attached to the phone. It is confused (and so am I).
Re-flashing the AT&T stock roms (that you guys kindly pointed me to) flash OK, but they don't solve the issue. My guess is this - do I need an AT&T specific PIT file to repartition this thing back to normal?
Hey everyone, total noob here when it comes to Android recovery and rooting. Also, feel free to move this thread somewhere else if needed Anyways, randomly yesterday my phone shut off and rebooted itself. Well, it became stuck on the Samsung boot screen. So I reset it again, and again, and again. Eventually I went into recovery mode and clicked the wipe data/factory reset button. Actually, at first I clicked the wipe cache button. So I rebooted it, and now everytime it boots it goes straight to recovery mode (Volume Up, Home, Power). So i began looking for solutions and decided it would be best to restore to a stock Rom. Well I downloaded one, and attempted to look for it in the internal SD card but all it said was "unable to mount sd". Did some more research, and found something called odin. I went into download mode and odin was able to recognize my device. Loaded up my stock rom (pda, .md5) and it would say this:

[3] Problem:- Odin gets Stuck on <ID:0/008> Set PIT file. or <ID:0/003> SetupConnection.. or <ID:0/007> Removed!
Note:
When using Odin to Flash, Open task manager and close these : Kies.exe , KiesTrayAgent.exe, and KiesPDLR.exe
IF your downloaded File (.tar, .zip, .md5 .rar ) is corrupted, Odin could get stuck too, so download from another source, if it happens repeatedly
Quote:
Solution:-
First reboot PC after a power cord unplug and also reboot the Phone after a battery pull. Always use a Fresh Odin after any attempt to flash, than make sure you "Uncheck Repartition", If you had checked it or clicked Pit when you are not using one. You should also be running Odin as an Admin and ensure that KIES is not running when using Odin. Most of all, only use Samsung USB cable and not others as they may be incompatible and trying it out on a lap top or another PC ( when it happens repeatedly)
Above from My Android Solutions, link below.
Also you have not mentioned what Model is your phone and what version of Odin3 you are using , as this will matter too.
Finally, your problem could be due to your Windows PC, win vista, win 7 & win 8, mostly do not perform well for flashing, try a lap top, when things keep getting complicated. And remember to charge your phone before attempting to Flash.
If you have a problem, how can anyone help, when they don't know, what phone you got, what ROM, What Kernel is installed, what caused the current problem and what you had done to solve it. All these matters, for an XDA member to even THINK of helping you.

Model is SGH-1747 (AT&T U.S. 4G model). I tried repeatedly, and I was originally using jelly bean 4.1.1 (or 4.1.2) that was rooted when the phone crashed. I haven't attempted to install a different stock rom because for some reason I haven't been able to find one.

3.04 should work, but 1.83 is meant for i9000, so try 3.07 or 3.09 or 1.85 ( if older) its best to reboot PC and Phone before trying phone would require a battery pull and power button press for a min before inserting battery and going into recovery mode.

If you have all your data backup up already what you can do is get in recovery and go to mounts and storage> unmount> format all the partitions (DO NOT REBOOT PHONE) and copy ROM again to SD card and try flashing again . or IF you can access download mode after formatting SD card and partitions, or by using this tool, try flashing the Stock ROM twice at least.

Okay so by formatting all the partitions do you mean /data, /cache, /sdcard, etc.?
And also, it gave me an error for mounting /data, mounting /sdcard, and mounting /external sdcard (most likely because I don't have one)

yup, whatever can be formatted, may help in getting a clean Flash and reduce booting problems, you should also remove SIM card when flashing , to make it even easier to boot, since you have a problem.

Okay, so I removed my SIM card and formatted all the partitions, still same error :/ I have an idea but I don't know if it would work. If I downloaded a custom ROM zip onto an external SD card in someone elses phone, switched it to my phone, and from recovery mode install custom rom from external sd card, would it work? And then once I got the phone booted up I could download it onto my internal sd card. Not sure if that would work considered my phone can't mount anything right now
Also, I saw something about NAND erase, and I tried it but again it just gave me an error. It's weird. My phone can get into recovery and download mode but it can't seem to reboot anything right now

you should try all options to revive your phone, so its possible to flash customs ROMs using your CWM recovery, so no harm in trying what you have suggested. BUT this method will work, even if your SD card is corrupted when your External SD card has two partitions . look at this for reference only, espacilly links below about broken SD cards.

well, final solution, since its still under warranty, you can take it to Samsung service center or a mobile phone technician, they will just use JTAG to flash it directly.

I,like you, have a MetorPCS Mega.
If your customer only wiped the OS, do a TWRP backup so you will at least have any data that may be on the phone.
There is no official firmware yet that I'm aware of. However, you can get your phone back working by flashing the CM11 (Android KitKat) ROM from the following thread. I confirm that it works on the MetroPCS Mega. I (as well as others with MetroPCS Megas) flashed it on my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566642&page=25
Find any post from Silesh.Nair. Look in his signature and you will find links to TWRP, his custom CM11 ROM, and one of the GApps file. You have to flash the TWRP from his link via ODIN. His version of TWRP supports the newest version of Android (KitKat). This is necessary for you to be able to flash his ROM in TWRP. You will also need to flash one the GApps files in his links. This way you can get back any contacts, calendar, etc. info via your google account.
I'm not sure if the i9200/i9205 custom ROMS from the Mega development forums (here on XDA Developers) work on the MetroPCS ROM (I never tried them) but having TWRP recovery installed on your phone and a backup or working custom ROM gets you back working in case you soft brick your phone flashing a non-compatible ROM. You don't have much to lose given you're already soft-bricked and there's no existing MetroPCS Mega firmware. Hopefully a firmware comes soon so you can get back to stock.
Who knows? you may fall in love with CM11 and forget all about the stock firmware. LOL
if anyone has a better idea, or see a problem with my suggestion, please say so.
For future reference, the first order of business when you flash a custom recovery, do a NANDROID backup and save it to your phone memory or SD card if you have one in the phone. That way, you can reverse a soft brick in all of five minutes (the time it takes to restore the backup).
here is a clean backup of the stock ROM. Just unzip it and put the file in your TWR back up folder. Than flash it as a restore.

Thanks!
Thanks guys i will try it out now.

If you don't have a TWRP folder, then you probably haven't ever done a TWRP backup to the sd card. Perhaps you can put the sd card into the phone, go into TWRP recovery mode and perform a backup just to create the proper subdirectory you need. Be sure to create the backup on the sd card and not the phone's internal storage. Everything below is based on the backup being on the sd card and not the phone's internal storage. The backup will create the proper folder.
Then, take the unzipped folder (ceanbackup) from bnb25's file (ceanbackup.zip) and move it into the TWRP folder. Be sure to put it into TWRP/BACKUPS/xxxxxxxx (the name of this folder varies but you need to move the ceanbackup folder into it)/
With the sd card in the phone, go into recovery mode, select Restore, select the micro sdcard for your storage (right below the time and battery percentage at the top you will see Storage, you can click on it to switch between the micro sdcard and the phone's internal storage),hit ok, then touch ceanbackup to select it, make sure all partitions are checked (boot, data, system), then swipe to restore (at the bottom of the screen).
This should get you working. I did it myself and it worked.

Cool. Glad you got it back working. I know how it feels to not have your device. I bricked my Mega the day I bought it. I rooted it but there was no custom recovery or ODIN-flashable firmware available. I installed software to change fonts and bricked it. It's not a good feeling.
Glad you got it working. I'll leave that backup online for anyone else that needs it.
I have a question, bare with me.
First and foremost, hello and happy holidays! Ok ive been following the post on the mega on here and before that
on my other device. Ive learned a ton from you guys. My question is this. I just bought the mega about 15 days ago.
I was able to get root but since then have messed some things up.
I acentdently took off google play. Bad move have got it working again and removed some bloatware. I would love to go back to as if I never rooted. Lol. What is the trw recovery? I seen where the guy posted a full stock recovery. I have used odin before on another device. So if one of you kind souls could tell me the steps to flashing this phone back I would be so grateful. I can follow the steps to a t. I will print the replies as to make sure. Thanks again!

you have to make a back up of the current ROM for the Folder to be created.
Okay, I'm trying to find out, if, I can copy/backup someone else's ROM of the same model (sgh-m819n) and then install that stock ROM to my phone since I didn't do a backup of my stock ROM. I would like to just return my phone to the way it was when I bought it. With all of my metro apps and exclusive samsung apps. And is there also away I can backup (the other phone) without rooting or voiding their warranty? I tried using CWM & TWRP

whats the issues you are having? you need step by step for what?
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but is this a stock firmware for the SGH-M819N, that is flashable through Odin?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-M819N&pcode=0#firmware
Could this be used for restoring a device back to a factory fresh state after installing a custom ROM like... CM11 (unofficial) for instance?
I'm downloading it now (super slow server-side bandwidth ~80kb/s) and will report back later.
If the file once you download it is a .tar or .tar.md5 file then it is flashable with odin then, looks like a stock firmware to me as it has the file for the PDA window of odin..what size is the file as i am not registered there and cannot see what size the file is.
Hello to all the devs in the forum and thanks in advance for the help that you will give me. Please bear with me, trust me I have made sure that seeking for help was my last resort seeing as I don't want to be just another guy with a bricked phone problem. Fortunately the forum has been quite educational and I have all you guys to thank you for that.
Now then, last night I decided to root my phone because it was running a bit slow and decided it was time to do it.
Everything went fine, I managed to root it successfully, installed Clockwork Recovery and all that, although when it said that backing up the image I think was an error, I sort of just disregarded it. I booted up my phone and everything is fine, I installed Titanium Backup Pro and deleted some of the bloatware that was in my phone.
Now this probably where my phone got on its way to being bricked.
Along with the bloatware that was deemed safe on the website, I also mindlessly uninstalled the Samsung Home and probably the stock keyboard app.
I deemed them unnecessary because I was running Go Launcher EX app as my launcher and Swiftkey as my keyboard app.
What I didn't know is that all the custom roms are probably going to be using those stock apps as base. Did I assume this correctly?
So then I tried to flash the custom rom that I found appealing, followed the steps in the guide that accompanied it, and when rebooted it, it was stuck in the Samsung logo screen.
Fortunately I planned ahead a bit, although not as much as I'd hope for, I knew that I can restore through CWM but unfortunately, the restore point that it created presented with an error and I can't restore it.
So I resorted to flashing a stock rom through ODIN and followed the steps in unbricking the phone.
I encountered some difficulties with regard to the drivers and all that but I managed to have the correct ones installed.
Now comes the final problem
As I am trying to have ODIN flash the stock rom, it wouldn't continue as it does in the videos that I watched. It would always stop in about 10 seconds and say that it failed.
I tried another stock rom from a different location and it still wouldn't work.
I have also run ODIN as an administrator, and this presented:
<ID:0/007> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> S5830iDXMC1_S5830iOLBLD1_S5830iDXMC2_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..

<ID:0/007> File analysis..

<ID:0/007>
<ID:0/007> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Again it only took about 10 seconds to stop.
I am running ODIN 3 v1.85
I have also uninstalled KIES.
Whenever I would cleared all the cache and mount everything sometimes it would bring me to the android setup at startup, but if I try to type there is no keyboard that would popup. And if I choose skip it, it's just black, but if I lock it, the blue stock lockscreen appears. Nothing else after that.
I decided to post as a last resort and knowing that I have done all in my ability to repair it.
So there it is, I tried to be as specific as possible to the things that I have done throughout the day,
A couple of solutions I found as I searched was to try to flash a stock rom through CWM, another suggested to use a different version of ODIN.
If someone could please point me to the right direction as to how to repair my device, it would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time.
UPDATE: While I'm writing this I tried the latest version of ODIN and it still won't work. Same issue. Please help
See first of all Split the Firmware into 3 Parts PDA & MODEM & CSC then use pit file also ..
Ok now follow these
1.Go into recovery mod do wipe data/Cache
2.Get into CWM again do wipe data/cache
3.Now take down it into download mode and flash the Stock firmware .
Hope these works .

Hello Hitesh! Thank you so much for your correspondence. I've been seeing your consistent replies to people who have the same problem as I had.
As for my phone, I managed to unbrick it yesterday by flashing a different custom ROM through CWM. I am currently running Extremis 2.1 from destructo570
Again thank you very much for your help.
As an advice to anyone who will have the same problem in the future, make sure that before you install a custom ROM to clear the cache and all that. Good luck!
