System memory low. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I woke up this morning to a message in my notification bar saying " system memory low". So I clicked the message and it took me to my settings where it had a list of items and how much memory was allocated to each item I believe everything was under 1GB but one item was clockworkmod which was 16 GB it said something about select the items I would like to unpin so I selected CWM and got rid of it, rebooted my phone, this got rid of the message and it doesn't seem to be effecting anything else. My question is what caused this message and why did it appear that CWM had used so much system memory.

Your backups were being saved internally. Switch that to sd card. Also, it appears any form of compression was turned off. There are options for that as well. Advanced settings I believe, within ROM Manager. Going off memory as I've ran TWRP since it dropped.

Ok, so the only thing I can remember doing yesterday that had to do with backups was seeing up titanium, which I am new to using titanium and I do remember seeing that up to automatically backup in the middle of the night. So your day that's the problem and I need to change Thanks songs to backup to SD card. Correct?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app

I would. Menu> preferences> backup folder location. I believe that's the path. Do it for CWM too from ROM Manager.

Ryanza new version.

I saw the update ryanza one click version. I download and installed. When open it. It said I don't have enough memory in /data? What is this mean? Thanks.

Go to settings > SD card and phone storage then scroll to the bottom if it says you have that you have less then 1gb then you can't install the lag fix because for some reason the lag fix eats up 1gb of your application space. I know he was working on this though. I don't think any of the newer versions have fixed it but I could be completely wrong and maybe something else is going on.
Hope this helps.
Yep. I only got 486mb. The phone is fine.but I like to keep up wi the lag fix update whenever I can.thanks.

Self deleting apps

Does anyone else occasionally experience an app mysteriously vanishing after restarting your phone? It's not as frequent anymore but it will happen to me with certain apps.
I'm wondering if this is because somehow they aren't compatible with my 64GB microSD- IF that's the default save location or if anyone else is experiencing this.
Thanks!

First of all, apps can't be saved on the microSD card on this phone. Check my FAQs on that.
Secondly, I've heard of disabled apps re-installing themselves on our phone on reboot, but not the other way around. Can you tell us which apps are doing that?
Airdroid, Fatbooth, FartDroid, etc... you know.... important apps... lol. This is my second phone to do it. The XDA app used to do it too. Some others as well. Their icons still show in folders but when you click it says the app is not installed.

I've experienced the same problem. They will randomly come back to life, but it seems if apps are stored on what the phone thinks is the SD card rather than the internal storage, it has a greater tenancy to vanish.
I've had this happen a few times. I have not noticed whether they are apps I have moved to the phone storage area or not.
When I move them, they seem to be ok. That is until an update for that app, if I restart before moving it back it'll delete.

Last night I moved my apps from internal to phone storage to make more space. After a while, my phone died. When I turned it back on, guess what? 90% of the apps vanished from my phone. Here I am redownloading everything... is this normal or does my phone have problems?

That same kind of thing happens to me. ADW remembers the apps where there, but can't launch them.
Guys, do me a favor and call HTC. They have nooo idea about this bug.

Any commonality between you three who have seen this? One is using ADW launcher....
I might return and exchange the phone. No apps will save to phone storage and it keeps telling me I have insufficient storage in the internal storage.... Can anyone save to phone storage, restart and see if apps are still there?

Might be something with your handset I have 1.6GB on phone storage and haven't had any apps self delete. I have run out of space on the internal storage, 1GB there isn't much. My plan is to s-off over Christmas when work shuts down and see if any progress has been made being able to move apps to the external SD. There was some talk about it a while ago.
Thanks for the response! Perhaps I have an issue with my phone. If I move apps to phone storage they will be completely deleted upon reset.
When I click apps on phone storage it shows the apps that are really in internal storage but when you click the apps they say "move to phone storage". Very strange.
I'll do a factory reset and see if it helps the issue.
How many apps do you have on phone storage?

I hope so! I'm going to do a factory reset tomorrow and see what happens. If it's not fixed I'll replace it after Christmas that way they should have a fresh batch. My last Inc 4g had the same issue.

MediaScannerService wakelocks

Hello,
The following happened to me:
I changed my rom to 4.1.2 jb from 4.1.1 and on the new rom I had crazy battery drain and the phone went hot so I thought about the media wakelock. Now I changed back to the old Rom (cwm image) but since I restored my image the battery also seems to drain faster. Bbs shows me 8m42s MediaScannerService wakelock. I've put the other information in the attachments. Can anyone tell me if these stats look normal? 5.8%/h seems like a big drain for me with or am I just freaking out? I'm almost sure that I had much better battery life before...
Can someone tell me how to get rid of the problem? Should I reinstall the rom? I'm using wanamlite 4.2.1 right now.
Cheers matt

Hey, I've been getting the same issue. I Reading up it seems we've got a choice of two options to fix -
1) Download something to stop the media scanning of SD card - the 'rescan media' app is one option I've seen but as this stops media scanning all together you need to re enable when adding new media so not a long term solution if you like your tunes
2) remove SD card, back up everything, reformat it, stick media back, add SD Card back into phone, and no more scanning issues. Pain in backside but should fix the issue.
Obviously someone will correct me if I've got it wrong...
I'm talking about the internal sd card. I guess I have to back up the stuff and format it too, right?

That's just how jb works.

Please use rescan media app from play store it works really well phone has been on for over 10 hours and media scan service has only been on 23 seconds
im what Willis was talking about
Thread moved to Q & A section, post in the relevant section next time.
Ok, rescan media app was clear as mud to use and didn't appear to keep settings after reboot so spent a couple of hours backing up, reformatting & reloading SD card yesterday and it's made a massive improvement with media scanner service wakelocks dropping to seconds rather than closer to hours.

So u think reformatting the internal sd card helps? I don't want to use an other media scanner app
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I figured why the media scanner was freaking out: it was the new titanium Backup format with blobs. In the blobs folder were about 3700 files and that was probably the issue.
I changed the backup format in cwm to tar but I also read that adding a ".nomedia" file to the titanium Backup or blobs folder might work in case you are doing and having many backups.
Now Bbs says 1 min media scan at boot and that's it

Back up properly

Little ashamed to admit it hut I have never actually backed up any phone I have owned. Atrix, vivid, s2 but I want to do right by this phone and downloaded titu. And online nandroid. From this point on I am a little lost as to how to back up my files. I am rooted but still haven't unlocked the bootloader the reason is I want to install the camera mod and have a backup incase anything goes wrong. When I downloaded online nandroid I could not get it to update and would not let me back up my phone do I need to be unlocked as well? Also is this any different from using titanium backup and or which one is better than the other

Well I got nandroid to update seems I didn't let busybox Install completely but still is this a better back up than Titu provides?

Nandroid backs up your current ROM configuration. So, however you have it set up, all apps, settings, etc, it remembers and will restore you to that same "image". TiBu is more for backing up and restoring apps, en masse. It also allows you to restore text messages, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings and a few other things. It gives you the ability to uninstall system apps with root or freeze them if you choose which its often safer until you figure out whether or not remove a system app will negatively affect stability. Hope this helps.

Application Manager crashing everytime.

Hey folks.
My "Application Manager" keeps crashing everytime I open it. No error message, simply closes by itselft after about 5 seconds.
I can't tell what is causing this. I already wiped cache and dalvik, disabled some apps and cleared some space in internal memory. But nothing works.
I've flashed a new kernel (Speedmod) some days ago, but I'm almost sure that I've used application manager after that.
I've been playing with Clean Master and SD Maid, maybe this problem is related to these apps? I don't know.
I would appreciate some help and tips...
Full wipe?

Must have another way...
You've obviously installed something recently or the data of something has changed and caused an incompatibility that's causing this.
If you're sure it worked after the kernel, there's not much you can do without a full wipe
Or restore the nandroid you took before flashing the kernel

I'm afraid I'll disable each recent installed app until I find the culprit.
Just thinking about a full wipe and I'm already tired. Hehe

Using titanium? Yeah that might work. It could be app data from a system/app though

I got a recent nandroid backup here. There is an option in TB to restore apps from a nandroid backup. I was thinking about restore "Settings" system app. Is that safe to do? The Application Manager is related to settings app, right? I cannot find an app with that name.
Yes it will be the settings app, but its likely its not the settings app causing the problem.
My sound menu used to do the same thing. I did a wipe and restored everything in titanium one by one to find out what caused it. Guess what it was?
That's right "wallpaper settings"...
See what I mean?
