So I've had cm7.2 on my phone for a couple of months and it's driving me crazy with some of the issues it's been having. The first one is battery life. Back when I had stock blur, I could go all day on my phone and still have 70-80% by the end of the day with moderate usage. With cm7, I'm getting around 50% just from it being idle. One of the reasons I installed a custom rom in the first place was to get better battery life out of my phone. The next issue has to do with wifi and data. A lot of the times I turn on my phone from sleep, it'll take a minute or two to connect to the wifi. Sometimes it won't even do that which is a little frustrating since the phone will try to use a data signal and nothing will happen because it's still trying to connect to wifi. So that ends up in me burning through data with nothing happening. The last thing that's been occuring and is really annoying are the random reboots. My phone usually does it once every two days or sometimes like today, a couple times a day.
Are there any fixes for these? So far I'm finding that stock blur has been way more stable than the roms I've tried out so far. Don't know if it's a issue specific to the atrix or if it's pretty much like that with other phones as well.
wifi issue can be remedied by going to wireless networks>wifi>advanced>and tick the 'always on' box, that should sort you out.
Have you installed the 'bluesleep' fix? it's a zip file so you can install it via clockwordmod (it puts your phone into deep sleep when not being used and should help you with battery usage). You'll also need to install cpu spy which helps with the bluesleep fix.
Random reboots can be caused by lots of things (apps, unstable roms ect). I would reinstall CM7.2 again (without a data wipe so you wont lose anything) and see if that helps. I would however wipe dalvik cache. If it carries on I would do a full system wipe and reinstall the rom of choice again.
How do I get the bluesleep fix? I remember that being a problem on cm10, but I never knew it was an issue for cm7.2
Alright and what does the dalvik cache store exactly?
I've put the bluesleep zip I use on here for you (i'm on 7.2) . Also, a link for CPU Spy https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bvalosek.cpuspy&hl=en
Dalvik cache... 'dalvik cache is a program cache area for the program dalvik. Dalvik is a java based virtual machine that is the bases for running your programs (the ones that have the .apk extension). In order to make access times faster (because there's not JIT (just in time) compiler installed by default), the dalvik-cache is the result of dalvik doing a optimization of the running program. Sounds confusing. It's similar to the prefetch files in Windows.'
I would wipe dalvik and see if it helps the reboot issues you are having.:good:
Gotcha. I'll try it out and let you know how it works out.
So I've been using the phone for a couple weeks with the fix and for the first week or two the battery life improved and then for some reason over the past week or so became bad again. I checked my battery stats and it may be because of the wi-fi, but I'm not sure.

Is bluesleep still working? Sometimes you just need to re-flash it. Also, have a look around on here for wifi issues - there's been a few questions about disabling/deleting wifi so you might find some help. And!! try wiping Dalvik (again!) And!! think about reflashing rom ect as sometimes a clean install will help.:good:

hy,
so i got the HTC Touch Pro and flashed it to Energy Rom "Warhawk" 3.0, and i was very pleased about the speed of my phone. BUT...
the Battery took half a day to get all empty. normaly i can do a whole day with gps, music, wifi, bt, ...
and now i tried different things and i think i got the reason for this hole in the battery.
you have to change, in the tweak software that comes with the new Rom, the File sytem cache, the flie system filter cache and the font cache. turn power saving on and than u do a soft reset.
after this my battery went from 65% to 70%. so within an hour u should see changes and the device doesn't slow down.
i hope this helps
what did you change them to?
i changed them from Large and very large to normal, this is suggested by the ROM developer

Something strange happened to my phone. One night I installed an app that can turn the phone into sleep mode instead of pressing the button at the uppermost right of it. I still have around 70+% battery by that time. The next morning, I was surprised that my battery is already out. I charge it but was stuck at the cyanogen logo. I removed the battery and tried to open it, this time the animation boot happened twice before finishing. I removed the app but noticed that my battery begun draining much faster than before. Just letting it on idle state will reduce it to 40% in 9 hours. The bootup problem is also present every time I boot the phone - it will get stuck at first at the logo, remove the battery, turn it on again where the animation will happen twice before the phone become usable.
Checking the phone usage, mobile standby and phone idle have the largest usage. I read some threads mentioning something about wakelock or something that prevent the phone from going to sleep. Checking the Spare parts battery history, only two things are present - Running (100%) and Screeon on (5.1%).
Any help or tips to know the real problem? Thanks

this will happen when install every crappy tweak **** - i'm not understand why users have to install extra apps for buttons
to help you something:
wipe your system, not the data - only if it doesnt work after wiping the caches.
than try to boot ... if its doesnt nrmal booting, reinstall the rom and do a full wipe. sometimes apps installing libraries in system.
^
I was thinking of reducing the usage of the hard button so I used it. Will resintallation of the ROM afefct my partition? I have a nandbackup before this problem happened, but I still do not have the partition by that time.
And how do you do it by the way? Just flash again the ROM? Thanks
Edit: Wiping the cache seemed to help. It doesn't stuck at the logo, but the animation still happens twice instead of once. Gonna observe the battery usage. Thanks.
100% running, that means your phone is not in sleep, but only with LCD off. Grab betterbatterystats([email protected]) and check your wakelocks.

Based on the betterbatterystats, the gpslocationprovider is the culprit. But my gps apps are off and are not running any services. Any idea how can I stop it?

I copid a gpa.conf somehere in this forum. I replaced it with the originial and I'm currently observing whether it will return to normal. My gps apps are off, and both wireless and gps sattelites are disabled on my location & security tabs.
I'm planning on doing a restore to at least remove the boot up problem. But my last nandbackup was still before I partitioned my sd card and flashed dark tremor, and configre a2sdgui. If I do the nandrestore, do I have to disable or remove dark tremor and a2sdgui, or remove the partition of my card? Thanks

I has the same gps wakelock even disabling GPS- reboot and the thing is gone
I changed it, but my phone still doesn't sleep. Although this time, the gpslocationprovider is no longer shown with the betterbatterystats. It just states that my phone is awake for around 47 minutes but my screen is just on for around 4 minutes. I've already rebooted several times and wipe the cache but its still like this. Still trying to find other ways.
I have a Galaxy S2 running 4.0.4 IMM76D.XWLPT, baseband I9100XXLQ6 with Siyah kernel [email protected] SMP PREEMPT.
This phone was originally running with stock kernel, but I was having a lot of Sleeps of Death (SOD) and the only way to avoid those was to let the S2 eat its battery at standard rate, which for me meant I would run out of battery in 10 hours standby or so (with auto-sync turned on). Clearly, that wasn't acceptable, but neither were all the SODs, so I installed Siyah to see if that would help.
I imagined at first SODs were fewer, but I'm not sure. I used it with the Siyah kernel (setup as above) for a couple of months and lately it started to misbehave. Any attempt to use Juice Defender or Green Power would generate SODs so I tried using Tasker instead. More and more applications would freeze -- Onavo Extend, Swype, even the launcher. I lived with it because I knew that putting a new ROM on would involve a bit of time spent on reinstalling everything and re-entering settings etc.
However, as of yesterday, suddenly the phone is unusable. It is OK at startup, but after about three minutes it locks up almost completely. All I can do then is turn it off. Looking at the task monitor, I noticed that the lock-up is because there is 0 RAM free. If I look at the RAM from boot, it starts off OK, then it gradually goes down from ~250MB free to zero. At that point the phone is pretty unresponsive.
I haven't installed any new apps lately. I did receive updates to some the day before yesterday (can't remember which ones).
I am now deciding what to do:
1. Try to identify the offending app and uninstall it (in the short window I have after boot).
2. Do a factory reset.
3. Install a new ROM.
Then, today, I took the SIM out of the S2 and put it in a mobile I had lying around because I needed a working phone. I booted the S2 to check the kernel number etc. and what do you know - the memory problem isn't there! With no SIM in the phone, it free RAM stays at ~250.
Questions:
a) What is the best way to diagnose which is the offending app? Is there a way of seeing used RAM and sort by it (on my "Running" tab, there is no sort option, and on the "All" tab, where you can sort by size, it doesn't seem to be used RAM that you see)?
b) What should I deduce from the fact that the problem only happens with the SIM installed?
c) [million $ question] has anyone found a SOD-proof ROM/kernel combination that gives decent battery life?
Much obliged.

1) uninstall 'Juice defender' first.
2) dwnld and install 'GSAM Battery monitor' app from stores and see which app is causing the memory issue for u.
3) Remove that rogue app, put back ur Sim and then see
Thanks Sun90.

I should have been more clear: In my hunt for good battery life without SODs, I first tried JD, then Green Power, then Tasker. At the moment I have neither JD nor GP installed.

OK, so I installed the free version of GSAM. I can't see an option for tracking RAM though. Am I missing something? I see options to review battery use, CPU minutes, network data, sensor time, awake time, # wakes and GPS time.
Do I need to purchase GSAM Pro to get the RAM monitor ability?
Heisenberg uncertainty principle
OK, I installed System Tuner and used it to look at processes sorted in order of most RAM used. Wouldn't you know it -- now I didn't get the problem with zero RAM, even with the SIM in...
I don't yet know whether this was a fluke, whether somehow I had a problem that went away after taking the SIM out and putting it back in a couple of times, or whether I am subject to Heisenberg's uncertainty prinicple -- I will only get the problem when I am not monitoring it...
I'll post back here in a couple of days. I still want to get my battery life sorted so I may try first a reset, wiping cache and dalvik and then possibly a new ROM.
Hi,
I have been on CM since January. The battery drains like hell, I tried the different solutions I've read on the forum (cache wiping, dalvik cache wiping, force closing before uninstalling.. etc), I even wiped my phone completely (as new, no data at all) but with always the same result
Sometimes I have less than 1h of screen usage with no wifi and no GPS and it dies after 17h. Always the same guys comming "Android OS" and "Android System". Google+ upload is wifi-only, latitude was disabled few minutes after installing gapps. No Facebook, Twitter, nothing!
I've attached a batterystat log. That day (two days ago) I was even runing the phone in 2G mode just to see if it will change anything.
I'm running CM10.1-20130627-Nightly-i9300 with a baseband i9300XXEMA5
Thank you in advance for you rtime
Hi,
I can’t say I’m impressed at all with the SGS2 battery life running CM11 M7 (KitKat 4.4.2). Quite often the battery won’t last through the day (luckily I can charge it at work, otherwise it wouldn’t even be bearable as a phone).
My crappy Sony Xperia J (JB) I had for a couple of weeks as a replacement could easily reach the end of the day with 70% charge still left when I plugged it in at night.
Android battery stats always show Android System and Android OS as the main offenders (around 20% - 25% each), above Screen usage, Voice calls, Mobile standby...
BetterBatteryStats tells me the phone is in the Deep Sleep most of the time, but also that it is awake (mostly at 200 MHz) quite a lot of time as well.
Here’s what I have already tried:
Disabled location services
Disabled Google Now
Disabled Google+ Auto-backup
Opt out of interest-based ads
Disabled back up data to Google servers
Disabled “Android Device Manager” as Device Administrator
Uninstalled all updates to Google Play Services
Disabled automatic updates from the Play Store
Disabled Mobile Data Limit
Disabled Automatic Date/Time updating
Uninstalled Lookout Antivirus
Uninstalled Viber
Uninstalled Skype
Rebooting the phone before connecting the charger
Rebooting the phone immediately after disconnecting the charger
I really don’t want to perform a factory reset specially since I have read some other comments by Galaxy S5 and Nexus 5 owners (KitKat 4.4.2) saying it didn’t work…
So what exactly is going on here?
Thanks!
Sorry

Sorry I cannot help you, however, I am also contemplating installing cm11 on my sgs2 i9100.
I wanted to ask you if you phone came with android version 2 installed on it? (maybe in that case the problem is incapable hardware)
Mine came with 2.3.4 and i do not want to face the same problem as you are now (sorry).
Thanks
It is normal, that non-stock-based roms consume more power because Samsung haven't open-sourced all drivers. And Kitkat drains more than Jellybean. Try Slimsaber Reborn. It has a decent battery life, an very acitve developer, and is nicely customizable.
Any luck?

Hi MegaShark!
I have almost the same issue you have, my device never go to deep sleep... (by "never" I mean 1 minute deep sleep and 1 hour 200MHz)
After months trying, getting help from Better Battery Status thread, flashing, freezing, going crazy, I commited suicide (flashed stock ROM), but it is driving me mad.
The last try I did was with SlimSaber Reborn (Android 4.3.1), but no luck also.
Installed "Unbounce", prevented nlp wakelock, prevented safe alarms and nothing, it only gets worse...
All I get is my device always warm (always running at minimum of 200MHz) and more than 10% battery drain per hour.
Have you found out what is the problem with our S2 on custom ROMs?
Thank you!
First of all, I would advise you to update your rom. CM11 M7 is old now and is filled with bugs (along with versions around that). Update to CM11 M11 Snapshot which will most likely fix many of the problems you are facing but you will need to do a full wipe (factory reset, wipe dalvik and cache partitions). So sorry, the only way to fix is to wipe your data and update.
Will try!

I remember to have hope until CM11 M9... But I'll give M11 a try and report back here!
Drain NOT related to any of the CM version
I have been facing battery draining problem in my sgs2 (i9100) just after installing CM 11.
Then I tried NeatROM without any Luck!
Every time i cleaned data, cache and dalvik to be sure...
at the end I moved back to Stock ROM - everything fine there...
but again then I decided to have just root and custom recovery installed... which required me to Flash Jeboo Kernel v1.2a (which comes with CWM based recovery 6.0.2.7 preloaded)
then it started same problems again... overheating - battery draining ...
It clearly look like ... the battery draining/overheating problem is because of .... Kernel AND/OR CWM 6.XXX
I think, if one want to install CM 11 in sgs2, after installing ROM, he/she need to flash it with some other kernel.
If anybody have tried some other kernel, which doesn't cause battery draining/overheating problem, then pls post here so that other can also try...
Confused

pankhawala, I installed the last available SlimSaber Reborn (4.3) (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...rivatives/rom-slimsaber-reborn-i9100-t2811657) because o lots of positive feedback on this ROM.
It is really a very nice ROM, but my battery drain problem persisted, I was losing more than 10%/hour in idle.
I just tried to "live with it" and after some weeks it mysteriously gone away.
I was happy for a few days and it went back again.
Now, it has been since this Sunday that it is gone again.
I'm being able to have a very acceptable battery life, very good deep sleep times and less than 4%/h when idle (screen off).
I didn't changed anything and it just got better by itself.
I'm sure it will start to drain again, just don't know when or what is triggering it.
My last hope is that when new Lollipop ROMs start coming out for our S2, some holy developer figure out this problem or that the problem is simply gone.
