Hello! So I've had some vibration problems and discovered that its the headphone jack slot being slightly misplaced or something that causes this. My phone is still technically under warranty as long as i can revert it all back to stock. So i've been following this thread and trying to get all to work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659
But I ran into a problem. My stupid computer won't detect my i777 through odin! I've installed the i777 drivers and everything! I currently have the latest version of the shoshock rom installed (ICS), but when I enter download mode, it won't detect the phone normally. All i get from my PC's hardware manager is "gadget serial"
When i start odin, its supposed to show some #'s right? Its just blank in the boxes. When i tried flashing a .tar through PDA, i got a 0 success/0 fail status.
I'm stuck. Where do i go from here? Mobile Odin won't work because i can't find the add on for the i777.
What I have done is open up kies and put my phone in download mode then went to firmware recovery and applied it. It has worked twice for me and my comp doesn't recognize my phone

I don't think that'd work because i need to clear the bootloader flash count. To do that i need to flash a .tar file and i think you can only do that in odin?
YouTube how to make a usbjig or use chain fires triangle away I think it might reset the counter. I have not tried it yet. The ones that are for sell don't work on our phones but have read that making your own jig would reset the flash counter. Just suggestions

Try using Mobile Odin, I believe it flashes tar files.

the flash count has nothing to do with odin seeing your phone. try a different usb port. if that doesnt work download samsung drivers from samsung not kies
But kies you can do a firmware recovery which will take back to stock. But it doesn't reset the counter.

Search for, download and install triangle-away from the play store. It will tell you the count and give you the option to reset to 0

Triangle Away only works on ICS-based ROMS.
If you don't have ICS installed, I would suggest getting a USB jig since that resets your counter to 0.
If you have ICS and are rooted, you can download Triangle Away directly to your phone (play store charges you $3 -.-) Chainfire has a thread here on XDA where you can download Triangle Away for free.
I have ginger bread rom, 2.3.3 back on it now. Not rooted. My usb port is messed up, so I cannot hook up to usb. Just to charge. So I was hoping there was a way to check the counter before I send it into see what they say

You need a USB jig to reset the counter. You can buy one for $3 on Amazon
Will it work even with my usb port issue?

Boot to download mode. It will not display a count at all if your count is zero. Otherwise you'll see a count if a non-Samsung signed kernel was ever flashed to that phone.

Yes. You turn off your phone and insert the USB jig. Your phone will automatically boot into download mode and erase the flash counter.

Not a definite, actually. If his usb port is jacked, there it's a possibility it won't work.
Ok. I checked in download mode. It says one count. If I send it for service, chances are it won't be covered with thatone count on there, correct?

I know that, but it's better to try out first and it's only $3.
Since he's on 2.3.3, he still has the old bootloaders.

do exactly, will not require usb. if you got a rooted phone
check you have i9100 not i9100G
root your phone
install mobile odin
flash stock ICS ROM from sammobile / checkfus [not the intratech's]
flash using mobile odin
afterboot root the ics using cf-root
install triangleaway and remove counter / triangle [double check if download mode and triangle away says same thing about counter]
now flash your region stock GB back using mobile odin
now you are on stock GB without counter and triangle.
now wipe using *2767*3855# to finish the update and fix csc and stuff.

I think Mobile Odin requires root, unfortunately.
Greetings.
I've been trying some ICS ROMs on my US 5.0 Player but I decided to just go back to GB.
I flashed what I had before, Eryigit 3.5, nothing out of the ordinary, while it was charging. Everything went well.
At one point I turned it off, while still charging.
And when I tried to turn it on again I couldn't. Instead of the Samsung logo that would normally appear, only the "waiting" android sign showed up (8 lines forming a circle), sometimes the charging battery animation, even if it is unplugged, but nothing else.
I've tried to flash stock GB ROMs on Odin, flash Entropy's kernel on Odin as well, and it boots normally when the process is finished.
I had soft bricks which I solved, but when I try to flash the stock ROM with PIT files on Odin, it wouldn't go past "Setup Connection".
Right now I can go to Download Mode but not much else.
Any help would be appreciated.
From my GNote. That's all.
I'm sure you did this, but did you flash the correct version kernel for either the us or international variants? This is the only thing that ever caused me a soft brick. Was stuck in boot loop, but was able to get into recovery.

Yeah, I used the right ROM and kernel, for the US version of the Galaxy Player 5.0.

Can verify that the drivers are okay on the computer? When I was running erigit, my computer did not recognize my device in mass storage mode (debugging off), I had to uninstall Kies and reinstall, drivers got updated... Weird.
Could the bad Odin flash be driver related?

That's just driver related try to reinstall the drivers!
I've reinstalled Samsung drivers like 10 times. Each time I had a soft brick I had to install Heimdall drivers and then reinstall the Samsung ones to use Odin, so no, I don't think it's driver related.

I can get to recovery only after I flash a ROM with Odin and then I restart it with a special toggle to go to recovery. But if I turn the device off, no recovery for me, only Download Mode, so I guess something is needed up with the bootloader.
I will try a different cable tonight when I'm home. Thank you for the suggestion.
From my GNote. That's all.
Ok, seeing as recovery is pirated in, what about re rooting using super one click to unlock that bootloader (again?). Can't see how it would have re locked, but could explain the rom not being able to run or recovery not accessible. Would make sense that this could be bootloader related.

Well, I've tried everything I know.
Reflashed with Odin, and everything works perfectly up to the point I turn the device off. After that, no reboot for me.
Maybe a damaged partition, a damaged bootloader, who knows.
Tomorrow is waiting for me a trip to Best Buy; fortunately I got the extended warranty and I unrooted the device before turn it off.
Thank you for the responses I got, I really appreciate it.
Wish I could help more, but truly stumped.

Hey guys! I just tried to flash my S2 i9100. I forgot to enable USB debugging, went to ODIN and started the flash. It went all the way to "PASS" and when it should have rebooted, it stuck to the start-up screen. It had a new picture of a yellow triangle with an "!" inside it. I can access download mode, but i cannot access recovery. I suppose this means NAND corruption? I've tried everything, flashing a new kernel did not work (it would not even flash anything but the one i first tried). I also got through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 , but still nothing. Is it time to say goodbye to my S2 witch i bought 2 months ago :/
Kind regards,
pudipaa
You should always leave USB debugging on it wouldn't hurt to do so. Did you try flashing a boot loader like in the thread?

Try reinstall samsungs drivers on PC and you have to flash rom by other ver. of Odin. Or you try do it on other PC.

Having trouble getting out of initial boot screen "samsung galaxy s II GT-I9100 with the triangle". I flashed siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap-i777.tar using Odin3_v1,85 and had issues using video and camera. Was using galaxys2root.com as guide but no resolve in forum. I tried to factory reset using power vol+ vol- and was still being shown that i was running the siyah kernal... obviously dont know what im doing. I then tried reset using settings and am now stuck at the boot screen. My computer recognized that it was sgh-i777 when bubble popped up but no data is being listed and is showing up as 2 drives in my computer. It shows battery charging briefly but then screen goes black. Is this salvageable, can I get back to a stock ROM? Please advise.

Since your computer recognizes the phone, try using adb portable in my signature. It can help you reboot to download mode if you're stuck in a loop.

what to do first
my phone says im running 4.0.3 and its hardly working so Im thinking that I did something incorrectly when I flashed something from stockrom.com . Im able to get into recovery mode and download mode now with no problems. From what Im reading everyone suggest that I have CWM (but do I need it right now?)... I havent installed it via google play... if it is even there... so is it something I flash? I want to just know how to get it back to normal so I can play around with different roms and find out what I like. I hear that ROM manager is a no no. So... what to do... thanks for having the patience to help.

You'll want to get root if you don't have it. Either flash the stock + root package or use the Exynos Abuse app to gain root. If you use the app, do not patch the vulnerability.
Once you have root, download Mobile Odin and flash the Siyah kernel. You can flash Siyah with regular Odin but it will trip the flash counter.
Clearing the flash counter is as easy as a jig or the triangle away program.
For any extra information on any of these topics, read the stickies and look at Creepyncrawly topics.

I have flashed AOKP JB on it and everything seems to be working fine... I now understand the appeal of the whole thing... It runs so smooth. Is there a big reason to clear the flash counter? Is that just a warranty thing? I can see why you wouldnt want a huge triangle on the front if youre trying to sell it. What is patching the vulnerability?

Warranty is really the only reason to clear it. When you run Exynos Abuse it asks if you want to patch the vulnerability that allows it to root the phone. This is a permanent fix and cannot be undone.

Hi, so I've had problems with what appears to be 'sudden death' - random freezes - unfortunately I havent been able to reset the flash counter before it all went to hell.
I can now ONLY enter my Download mode. While connected with Odin I get a yellow box when my phone is 'added',
I tried to flash stock Android back on my phone. This failed so I now only get the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue".
Only thing I want to do is reset the counter, so I can take it to Samsung. Otherwise I'm totally screwed. Any tips? :crying:

It's been ages since Sgs2 supported Jig-based counter reset: more specifically not since 4.x bootloader.
Flash counter can only be reset through TriangleAway which at leased did use a custom update.zip to modify the storage so you could flash it. Modern bootloaders for s3 however also have a red triangle which cannot be reset to date (afaik)

looks like im screwed. Found out: USB JIG does NOT reset the counter. This only worked on S2.
Talked to a guy at a phoneshop today, he said that 90% of the phones that have flash counts are still being repared by Samsung. So I see no other way than acting like nothing is up and see what Samsung will say.

I tried to flash 3 different stock ROMs with 3 different versions of Odin: 1.85, 3.05 and 3.07.
No succes. I brought it to a gsm repair shop. Hope they can do something. All I need is access Android to reset the counter, and then Samsung can have it if the problem still occurs.
If they can't fix it, I'm gonna send it anyway and hope for the best.
So I guess it's a case of bad luck; sudden death (random freezes) in combination with a rooted phone --> First reset your flash counter!!!
