Hi guys. I've opened this thread because I have a serious problem: deep sleep is not working on my HTC EVO 3D, the GSM version. I've tried many things, from changing roms to wiping data but nothing works. I'm asking you if you could help me and the other users who have this problem resolve this once and for all.
fdespotovski said:
So, here's my problem. After I unplug my phone from charging, deep sleep stops working. I've done many tests to prove this, so, I'm certainly sure that this is the problem that causes my battery to drain. But, after I reboot my phone, it suddenly starts behaving as normal. What causes it to malfunction? I'm using KingCobra 2.2 with Anryl 10.07 kernel on a GSM HTC EVO 3D. I also had this problem on LeeDroid 5.3 and 5.4 with LeeDroid kernels 5.3.8 and 5.4. Please help!!! This thing is driving me mad.

I'll see what I can do. Maybe I'll do a factory reset or change the radio.
Try removing any apps that have advertisements, or apps you don't need.

I think not. I have s-off and root. But I won't change it. I've already done a factory reset so we should see the results in a day.

Hope that one of the 3 apps isnt the cause.....Also Check if the "Up time" and "Awake time" are same or not. Check only when the screen will be off for a few hours.......not if you are using it every few mins.

So far, so good. Deep sleep works, as system tuner says. I will charge it tomorrow and after I unplug it I will reset the system tuner stats and see what it says.

I am 90% sure it is one of the app that you install in every ROM. Maybe some kind of monitor that keeps checking something.
And Do you keep your data always on? Your phone might be trying to sync in every few hours/mins.

I'm not sure, but it might be system tuner. Anyway, I've reinstalled my phone with ROMeOS and I won't be using system tuner anymore. I'll keep this topic updated.

The best thing to do is to make a factory reset. Drain the battery to around 13 percent and then plug it in. When it reaches 100% remove it and leave it for around 10-20 minutes. After that wake your phone up and if the battery is still 100 or 99% the problem is gone and it was an app that was causing the problem. Just MAKE SURE YOU DON'T INSTALL ANY APPS FROM THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE OR FROM YOUR SD CARD. ESPECIALLY SYSTEM MONITORS. MAYBE THEY SOMEHOW CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. I hope this helps.
Hi, Thanks
but this is not the solution i want ;-)
i am too lazy to make a factory reset and then install one app after another and check if it still got the problem.
(the easiest way ist with CPU-Spy - there u can watch how long it was in deep sleep)
so if anyone gut the solution without factory reset or a way to check which app causes how many percent of "android os"
please tell me / us
thanks

I'm not saying that you should install all apps one by one. I'm just saying that you should try the thing I mentioned above just to see if an app is causing the problem. Anyway, yesterday that problem occured to me once again. Now I'm really confused.

Try recalibrating the battery with battery calibrate app ? If it's not helping you will need to flash a battery saver kernel :/

do you know a battery calibration app that is trustworthy ????....
I save the most energy when i am only in 2G network... ca. 1% per hour
sent from my xperia mini pro with jelly bean 4.2.2
Use only 2G, turn off wifi, synchro, data transfer, BT, GPS... But IMO 10% during night is normal. It's not huge battery drain Remember it's a smartphone, not just a phone
is there an app tha will help me to close the action of some apps whene i do not use them ..
for example i turn on the wi-fi and start to run the facebook app then i turn off the wi-fi ..
wen i go to see the apps that running there are running apps like faceboook , youtube , play store etc ..
is there an app that i will choose the apps that i want to stop running when i close the wi-fi or generally apps that i do not want to run at my phone ????
take a screenshot of your battery usage, so that we get to know what is sipping your battery juice!'
install app "juice defeder". it helps to save a lot of juice! try it for a week! and see! it will turn off ur wifi automatically when not in use, and when screen wakes up, it will again turn it on for you. it will kill apps that r not needed,.. the features are endless

bro believe me, you wont need to do these closing stuff! install it, do the settings of this ap as per your requirements! it has a cool feature.
you can tell your device that i want my internet to work from 6am to 10 pm! after that it will automatically disable your internet! that saves the unwanted battery loss when you are sleeping!:laugh::good::good:

Use better battery stats app to find out whats draining ur battery. Search in arc themes and apps for a thread by iridaki to properly evaluate battery life using better battery stats
P.S. Dont ask for links. Don't be lazy. Search

Please stop talking about battery calibration and transfer this myth or joke or whatever to new users. Or its stay with us forever.
Anyway 10% is not so much and you must calculate also with old of your battery and battery cycle count. + our battery is very little but in sleep giving same power like in big phones with big batterys. If you need more battery and need turn on mobile for alarm then use airplan mod. And if you need some very good manage app like you write use tasker.

I am using cm 10.1 legacy xperia nightly build 20130722 along with naa kernel v3.4.53 that came with the rom on my live with Walkman.....
and I have a big battery drain issue on my phone. In 1 and a half hour my battery reduces by almost 10% that too with only some normal usage like listening music etc...it cant be because of the apps since I haven't installed any apps yet other than gmail and hangouts. Other than this all the other features are working perfectly well and I love this rom....but if the battery keeps on draining like this I will have to change the rom...PLSS HELP ME..
also I read somewhere that the battery drain is due to kernel and not the rom...so should I chnge the kernel or is there any other fix for it..
I would have posted in the developer forum but since I am new to the forum I am not allowed to post there...
thnxx in advance:good:
Try to freshly install the rom. Or just install your previous Rom that worked for you the best.
Well...I'll try reinstalling the rom but I want to know what is causing this problem is it the rom or kernel..

thats because of wakelock bro, you can minimise it by reducing brightness, sleep at minimum(15sec)
if possible try to manually lock device it it wakes up

I experience battery drain on that rom if GPS is activated once. Altough the phone says it's turned of, it still consumes a lot of battery power.

thats nothing new ... on this rom (all JB roms bcuz our devices arent maked for it and it still needs some big development here... )
but here some tips which i get more battery (i use JV-EX which is based on LX..)
- deactivate sync, gps,bt,rotation and activate only if u need them!
- i use gpu rendering in development settings - gives some battery..
- delete all useless (only if u know which app this is) apps in system/app (fast-dormancy.apk is a wakeclock from sony media apps from iiandskater.. )
- use the apps 'greenify' & 'disable service' to disable useless stuuf / wakeups at least u can also disaple some apps in settings to avoid them to start & wasting ur ram....
- NO OVERCLOCK !
- do some build prop tweaks! (from thread) helps also a bit..
-some (my) values in advanced performance setting's min/max centisecs = 500 ; i set dirty ratio to 20.. also ondemand semms to be the battery friendly cpu governor
hope it helps

It is a wakelock, because it keeps an eye on the data connection - keeps tracking, how much of the bandwidth is used. If less is used, power consumption is decreased for longer battery life.

The states, which were mentioned in the forum, which I linked to, apply to 3G/HSPA connection only.
It is not necessary for media apps, though it can guarantee continuous broadcasting (and make sure video/song gets loaded fast) and changes state when data connection is not necessary, in order to save battery.
Similar issue
Similar issue here.
I've Flashed CM 10.2 Legacy Xperia NIGHTLY along with the included Kernel (3.4.59-nAa) and some core Gapps couple days ago, and now i'm experiencing some heavy battery drain (Even with mobile data, wifi, gps off). Battery stats show, that most of the drain comes from Google Services.
The phone was going 100 to 0 in two to three days, now it lasts 6-7 hrs with almost no phone usage.
Any ideas what can be done?
Nevertheless, Thnx to all the guys working on this project - I like this ROM a lot. Everything seems to be working fine. :good:
EDIT:
Well, seems like I was looking for a solution in the wrong place and with the wrong keywords. After some time researching forum, i found out, that the drain is caused by some location service within Google Services, and the work around this bug is to switch WiFi location in google settings, and in google maps. For more information just search forum for "Google Services battery drain".
Hi...
It's been a week, I experience severe battery drain...
At the night I have 100 % battery, then in the morning it's dead because no power left... I have to recharge it again.. I didn't use it... I just left it with wifi active...
When I check the usage... It show that 80 % consumed by "Media"..
What the hell is this application /services?
Other time, I tried to turn off that services.. But it turn on again automatically...
I did try factory reset, but I still have this issue...
And, a quarter part of the screen (top) is very hot while other part isn't...
Does anyone know what is going on with my XZU?
Thanks in advance...

Would be great to have a screenshot. Also can you check you wifi data details? Media app is use for media storage, DRM content, downloads and download manager. So to make it simple, it downloaded from night to morning and drained your battery. Do you see apps from the market you didn't download manually installed on your phone? Like a game with over 1gb of data or anything else (if you choices option to auto backup it restore all the apps you use from the market on your previous devices). Or did you put any file to download on any browser reboot our phone before the download is finish (Dolphin browser keep the link in memory and resume or restart download at boot).
First of all I would advise you to put your phone on stamina mod, and set it up if you use some apps like Viber, whatsapp, Facebook and etc... It really improve battery drain while you are not using your phone.

Wifi data details? I m not sure what you mean.. but I m curious that my XZU downloaded any data related to Media...
The last time I remember about it, I played with Jive (which is my primary suspect) (in the Walkman app)...
After that, I tried factory reset...and my last factory reset is last night... and this time, I havent activated my Google account and everything.. just to make sure that no account is activated...
Regarding stamina mod, I have tried it... even used Green Power Premium app (they are very useful)...but only after that issue occurred, then I try to leave it as factory default (I didnt install anything or activate any apps)... and as I said, it still drains the battery severly... and this so called "Media" remains there...

Media is not draining anything for me as well. Also just few kb on my data usage, but I remember I got it on my Nexus 7 as well, after a full wipe and flashing a new ROM at morning it was empty. But the day after it wasn't anymore.
You said you didn't registered any gmail account yet. Did it happen as well when you had a Gmail account registered? Just wonder if there is not a bug with the phone connect to Internet and the lack of an account link to playstore.

BTW, it's been around 15 minutes since I unplugged the charger.. now battery capacity is down to 91%...

Data service is only around 150 Kb
I just dont understand what is happening...
Maybe battery is damaged?

Hi, I think the reason of battery drains is not related with downloading data..
I dont know how it happens, but it seems that my device always active even if the screen is off.
I installed app called "wakelock detector"..
The media is the service that keep my device "awake"... it prevents/blocks the system from sleeping...
My question is what is the cause? is my device get infected by virus or malware?
Any suggestion to solve this issue? or is it hardware defect?
EDIT:
I have solved the problem.
I reformatted the sd card and factory reset.
Now, it's back to normal again.
It seems that the system keep on trying to scan the media file in the sd card.
There must be something wrong with my sd card (may be bad sector/cluster).
After reformatted it, everything seems normal.
Cheers

Hi, I think the reason of battery drains is not related with downloading data..
I dont know how it happens, but it seems that my device always active even if the screen is off.
I installed app called "wakelock detector"..
The media is the service that keep my device "awake"... it prevents/blocks the system from sleeping...
My question is what is the cause? is my device get infected by virus or malware?
Any suggestion to solve this issue? or is it hardware defect?
Thanks in advance...

I'm not familiar with that app. Did you try betterbattery stats? It should have told you what it was, and linked you to a site explaining what the app or service is. Then you can freeze that service or uninstall it if its not a system app.
hello guys im having battery draining, that Phone app is killing my battery, im not even using it ?, anyone knows how to fix it ? , im using s3 (shv-e210s) on CM 11 by arter ?!

I'm not sure about the phone app, but you should try disabling some Google services with disable service or use Greenify donation edition to hibernate play services.

there is no problem with google play services, the phone app stays awake all time, even i dont use it,, the device dont get to deep sleep because of that ?
Any help ?
The mobile data and screen brightness are the biggest drainer of battery life by a mile.
I would only turn the brightness up on my phone when i use it then turn it down later.
You can restrict background data, this one is the holy grail in battery conservation. Unless you specify otherwise a lot of the apps that you have on your phone like Facebook Twitter and many many more will constantly try to connect to their servers to look if there is anything new to report. To do this hit you settings, Connections, Data usage, menu, then put a tick in Restrict background data to force your phone to stop syncing continuously.
:good:

Screenshots are useless and not helpful, make your way over to the betterbatterystats thread and follow the op.

Using that app and finding the cause is a much better option than just returning to stock because it works.

I suggest you to install one or both of below free apps to monitor what is draining the battery:
- Battery Doctor(Battery Saver)
- GSam Battery Monitor
With the first one you can also set the option 'CPU Management=YES' so the phone can deep sleep
One the app is identify you can hibernate it to avoid running in background with the app 'Greenify'
Thanks.

So, it is better to test another ROM.

Strange, maybe and issue with that specific S3 model.
I have tested CM, Slimkat, C-ROM, Carbon, Omegarom on S3 GT-I9300 and I haven´t had that issue,
battery life is better than the stock rom.
Maybe you can try to run a cleaning kernel script before flashing if not done yet.
Use the betterbatterystats app i mentioned before to find out whats causing the phone app to stay awake.
Its all good to say the phone app is keeping it awake but you need to find the trigger or service that is doing so. The screen shots you are providing are basic and do not provide this, you need a log from this app.
