[Q] T-mobile : getting OTA updates when available. - AT&T LG Optimus G

Might be a noob question.. apologies if it was one.
I have the LGOG unlocked with tmobile.. when att eventually releases a sw upgrade i know that i wont receive it over the air.
My question is that is it possible to get the update (when its available ) by swapping in a att sim card till the upgrade is finished ? Or is it like they check if the sim card has a purchase history or contract with att

I change my SIM card via different phones all the time, and I have no issues getting updates on the respective phones. No AT&T does not check for purchase history.

Meaning you want to unlock your sim card right?
I don't know why you would buy to phones >.<
but maybe you should just try
taking out the sim card and putting in the revolution. I mean its the same carrier. I don't see why It wont work. Unless the sim cards is registered to your phone then maybe it won't work. But who knows
Okay thanks

Do I need a new SIM Card???

Hi,
I just got a new Note for my mom. She is coming from an iPhone 3gs. Do I need to get her a new SIM card? The customer service reps at AT&T said that I do not, but won't that mess up the speed of the phone and stuff like that? Just wondering.
Thanks,
Patti

It'll work , but not lte. I would get a new one. Of course they told me I needed a new one. At least At&t is consistent.
Yes, Lte requires an lte SIM, if you are in an lte area you'll need one to get the best speeds. If lte is not in your area yet you don't really need a new one.
All you need to do is look at the sim num and if its a 25 for 9th and 10th digit then ur good. If its less than that u need a new sim

My data wouldn't connect at all until I got an LTE sim. You can download the speed test app to confirm. Also, if you haven't modified it yet, the carrier badge will show what network you're connected to.

They tell you that you have to have the newer sim card no matter what, that is a load of crap. If you have an older simply you have to change the APN setting, but it will still work. Only thing that wouldn't work would be LTE

The iphone has a smaller sim card doesn't it? Its probably easier to get an new sim than to get an adaptor.

The 3GS used a standard sim card whereas the 4 and 4S use the micro, so it'd transfer over just fine

It is needed if you want to take advantage of all data speeds. Yeah you can aupposedly change your apn settings but not everyone who buys an lte phone knows about changing them. When 4g lte phones first came out so many people called in cuz they got new phones. Didnt want to use the new sim ao when the data plan was put to the correct one data still didnt work. Had them use the new sim and issue resolved. End of story

While we are on the topic of simcards (i figured better to ask here then make a new topic) I'm currently in the republic of Georgia and my host mother really likes my galaxy note. while Sam sung phones are very popular here the note is not here. if she was to buy a note online could be put a Georgian simcard in it? the guy at the at&t store before i left said something about the code not being unlocked yet or something so someone there would have to know what they are doing. i know there is a international version so if possible should she buy that person?
The international version comes unlocked meaning that it can use any sim card. I believe you can get it online for between 450 and 550 USD, but I've not looked at prices for a few months.

The inernational N7000 version is just a little bit different than at&t i717 on the capacitive buttons area. But other than that she won't see any difference. That would be a sweet gift.
Ok thanks for all the replies. From what I have been told, she can keep the 3GS card which fits just fine, and she can keep her old 250MB data plan for now since she barely used any of that data with the iPhone. But I'm suspecting now that she can actually see the screen and she has been playing around with this phone more in the past week than she has with the iPhone in the past 3 years, I better upgrade her soon. Oh, the reason she didn't get a new SIM card, is that this phone was an insurance replacement for my old phone. And I got a new phone in the mean time while waiting (S3). So we are both happy, but I miss my screen real estate!!!
Thanks,
Patti

XDA is no longer worth my time.

Traveling to Greece - Phone Preparation?

Aside from getting a GSM ready ROM (or patching a ROM), what steps do I need to perform to get this phone ready for travel in Greece? I'm thinking just adding global services to my contract since I won't need to activate this phone as its my primary device. Or am I wrong?
I'd like to keep voice, text and data operational.
Will my normal US Verizon SIM work?

Global Update
The Global Update has been announced so you should be getting it soon. Then your phone will be able to run abroad.
I'm not so much worried about the ROM as I am SIM card requirements or Verizon plan changes.
Will my Verizon SIM work there provided I'm on a GSM ROM? Do I need to enable international or us that a gimmick on Verizon's part?

You'd probably be better off suspending your Verizon contract for the duration of your trip and getting a Greek carrier's SIM card while you're there. Verizon's international roaming fees are absurd.

[Q] Just bought an AT&T HTC One and..

I'm new to Android.. coming from iPhone and WP7/8.
I love the HTC one and paid cash for this phone. I hate being controlled by the carrier when it comes to updates.... I know now.. that next time I will buy a unlocked/developer version if available.
My question is this. Being that it is an AT&T version, can i unlock the boot loader (assuming they haven't stopped this yet) and enable receiving my software updates directly from HTC? Just like the Dev phones.
I'm not so interested in "rooting" and loading custom Rom's at this point.. i just want to make sure i get the updates ASAP.. I don't want to wait on AT&T. (I wouldn't mind deleting some of the AT&T crap off the phone though)
I have searched Google and this forum and can not find an answer that is in such simple terms that i understand it lol ... sorry if this is a stupid question.
No.

Why would you buy an att device to use on tmo anyways?
Sent from my HTC myTouch 4g using xda premium
You can unlock the bootloader, you'll need the carrier's help to SIM unlock. Check out the tutorial in the development section.
Unlocking your bootloader has nothing to do with when your phone gets updated.

Also, I don't believe that T-Mobile 4G HSPA or 4G LTE will work on the AT&T version. (But I wonder if the T-Mobile version of the phone will work on AT&T's network?)
If you want to run on T-Mobile US, you need the T-Mobile US version of the phone.

Should I unroot ? Are we expecting a ota 4.2.2

I read on google that 4.2.2 is already being or about to be released ota , any truth to this ..
I just wondered if I should unroot for now to accept the ota, if there intact is one

I wouldn't count on it for at least a month.

tmobile us will take their sweet time to get us the update. i just hope it's not too long after all other regions have gotten theirs. the 5 months they took to release jb update for the htc one was ridiculous.
I vote we start mailing them filled out AT&T number port contracts in three weeks
I have been using 4.2.2 since it first came out, get a rooted rom, r u kidding...
I am sim unlocked, and for some reason I cant use an att sim, I tried my friends just to see, I cant get no signal, don't know why.
