Hello All,
I got my HTC One X+ from Vodafone UK, it is currently on Software Version 1.14.161.18.
I'm having problems updating it to version 1.17.161.7. After downloading the update, I try to install it but when it boots to update the software, a RED QUESTION MARK appears on the mobile icon, the software DOES NOT update & the phone boots into the Android OS. I've tried several times but still the same problem occurs.
My battery is 100% charged. I unplugged my phone so it was wasn't charging but I still encountered the same problem. What do I do ? CHEERS in advance.

I had exactly the same issue!
I tried to Update like 10 times, always getting stacked into that screensymbol with the red Answer/Questmark on it.
First question:
Did you encrypt your phone?
I'm not sure, but I guess it had something to do with that.
I'm not pretty sure about what causes the problem, but I can tell you the way i fixed the problem:
1. Get a proper recovery like that one of Lloir (THANKS to him!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074244
2. Get haason's toolkit (Thanks!)
3. Flash the new recovery.
At this point I guess, it could help.
I've done serveral steps in one row, that's why I'm not sure about what causes the problem.
Try this first, propably it will work out fine.

I got the phone rooted successfully using the Zerush method. It's been working well for a few days now. I installed all kind of software on it and not a single problem. Note: I have not flash any custom ROM. It's still with the stock ROM. I don't think any custom ROM is available for this phone yet.
Today, I came across a new software called Adfree from the Android Market. It installed fine. I went to shut off my phone and restart, and it stuck on the first screen of Samsung Exhibit 4G.
Could any one help me reboot my phone again? I have tried hard reset holding the volume down button and power with no luck.
Please any one came across this problem before?
Thanks.
I solved the problem guys. Thanks if you have read it.

how did you fix it? :/ im facing the same problem only through a different cause.
It's been a while and I have my files stored some where but I just flash it with the Zimage file and get the boot sector back on.
I see
Oh lucky you, my phone doesnt seem to be detected by odin either... and the downloading screen just says downloading all day long
I think either your drivers aren't correct or the Odin version you are using does work with the driver's version you have. Could you give me the versions? I'll see if I can dig up the files tonight or tomorrow and upload them on mediafire since megaupload has been taken down by the feds.
Post here tomorrow so as a reminder for me.
Thanks.

I had a similar problem and had to restore my phone - it was a real pain.
I believe the problem is with the bootloader. Is your bootloader unlocked and rooted? if yes, then you have to lock it and then update the phone.

I did give you the answer in your first thread....
Hey guys,
I've had my hands on a HTC Mozart yesterday that was appareantly broken. When i tried to start the phone it would simple be stuck on the HTC boot logo. I thought it was bricked or something and because of that i procedeed to flash the phone with RSPL and then HSPL and try both Dynamics 2.0 and Deepshining 7.0. The thing is, when those custom ROMs were installed, the phone wouldn't be stuck on the HTC logo but it would function normally for 1 minute or so and then reboot, this happened over and over, i wasn't even able to get past the configuration options.
I then tried to install the stock ROM again (Orange FR) to see if the phone would finally function normally. The result was that it was back to the first problem.. stuck it in HTC boot logo.
Any sugestions on how to make this phone work? I'm a newbie in the windows phone scene, so any help would be appreciated.
Btw, sorry for my bad english.
Hi there! Please try other rom, like the one's from ultrashot. I had that problem with DS rom's, and i was able to solve it temporarily by uninstalling Windows Mobile Center from the rom, but after a few weeks it started again. WIth ultrashot rom (7.5 or 7.8) the reboots never appeared!

Flash any custom which allows you to boot for 1 minute at least and then go Settings/About to check the available memory. If it's zero - change the SD-card. Looks the same like it was with my wife's Mozart when the stock card died. Not sure - but it's worth to try....
I installed the black update for my 920 & afterwards it completely froze up at the lock screen. So I rebooted it using the held down power button & down volume key method & the same thing happened & kept happening no matter how many times I tried this. So I tried powering it off in small moment it was active & the same thing happened it froze on shutdown with the goodbye message now permanently stuck on the screen.
Anyone know how I can recover my 920 in these circumstances?

I wondered why it happened is the install corrupted?
maybe some error on memory or maybe battery is low and during flashing shut down phone... this happened to some people...

if you did the OTA update, after the first reboot, it then loads the initial lock screen, you should have been able to unlock it. At this point you'll get a screen that says "migrating data" This usually takes about 5-10 minutes depending on how much storage you have in use. Then it reboots again and you're up an running.
May have just been a bad / corrupt file, but the manual flash should fix everything.
I wonder if it was because I got a service message from my network at the same time as it saw it as a new handset.
Sorry for the double post but just to say NSU did the trick oddly it didn't install the latest software as afterwards it was still saying there was an update to install on the phone update on the phone itself. Would think this update would come from the same servers.
Guys can yo tell me what are the differences between plain custom ROM and Roger's ROM..
Well I tried to do the update twice more with the same result each time.
Anyone any ideas on this?

No. Unless you count any slow trickle charge from the PC whilst flashing. TBH because of all the reboots I had lost track of the battery charge on the last flashing attempt.
Latest is on the latest flashing attempt it updated it to Black over NSU. Some of the apps seem OK, some open but freeze & others such as the camera & messaging seem to be missing. Also every time I turn it off it freezes up & has to be rebooted.
Just what is going on with it?
Is there anyway of getting the NSU to re-install the Amber software rather than keep trying to upgrade to the Black version?

Yes it may be that you were no outdated. NSU re-install the latest version available of your Hard Product Code of your device, since/from the Nokia Server. But that does not mean that you have the latest update as Lumia Black, for example.

Roger's is the official rom for devices sold by Roger's, custom is the rom developed by people unofficially authorized by Micro$soft or Nokia.

Since you successfully installed the latest RUU which should have fixed any software issues. That only leaves hardware issues which would require servicing. You can try a factory reset either in bootloader or OS and check that the imei is reading correctly in Settings. If not, it is definitely a hardware issue. Sorry!
