If you look at the top of the general section there is a Question thread, more people monitor that thread than the main section. Posting there in future is best practice.
If your stuck at boot I would suggest removing the battery. Hold the volume+ volume- and the power button while reinserting the battery (this can be done with the help of a friend if needed)
The phone should go into download mode press vol- to confirm you want to risk your device by using odin. Doing the same but holding the vol+, home and power button then inserting the battery will take you to recovery.
One thing worth noting is having the usb lead connected at the time of pressing the buttons can (sometimes) stop it working properly as the device goes to charge as a priority. Also did you remember to wipe the Dalvik cache as a hung boot screen could be the device memmory is too full and it did not finish the install due to this.
If no luck using this method then you can look up usb jig (I have never had to go this far)

I tried to upgrade to the 2.2 operating system using a guide on android forums.
I originally had a rooted 2.1 OS, I don't know if I unplugged it before the process was complete or if I had to return to a stock OS prior to upgrading; however now I cannot get to download mode to use Odin again.
I have read through some threads and I have a different case, I am not stuck at the Vibrant screen, I get past it. Upon boot up I get the Galaxy S screen followed by an Android System Recovery <3e> screen with some other texts. If I hold the power button, I will get the "Power Reset or Unknown Upload Mode" screen. If I continue to hold the power button, the phone will cycle between those three modes, the Galaxy S screen, the Android System Recovery screen, and the unknown upload mode screen.
I have and am still trying different key combinations to get back to recovery mode in attempts to reload the stock OS and then continue with the 2.2 upgrade.
I have made a video that I will post when I get home later today; any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
What about pull battery plug in usb hold volume keys while placing battery back in DOWNLOAD MODE
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw
You will be ok. Learn ODIN and you will have your phone back in a hour or so.

I am no expert by any means but perhaps the following might be of help:
try selecting reinstall packages when the stock recovery screen comes up, this may allow you to access CWM Recovery.
also try-- set up odin on Pc and plug in usb cable to Pc ONLY. Then with power off and phone not connected to Pc hold down both volume up and volume down and plug the usb in FROM computer this should take you to Download mode.
Try to reboot your phone with adb.
To get into download mode do this:
remove battery
replace battery
Hold both volume keys.
plug in USB
at no time touch the power button.
Takes me into download mode every time!

your phone is not broke! Relax! Enter Download mode (Vol. down+ home+ power) and flash a stock firmware of your region or any other stock! Guide here
PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS!
If the phone does not boot up and is looping, then simply remove the battery> Reinsert> enter recovery (vol. up+home+power) and do a factory reset and cache wipe and reboot!

are you sure the jig will work because i read online that that only fixed soft bricked phones, and mine is described as a hardbricked phone
if your phone could not turn on, jig probably won't work for you. It is best used for boot-loop or similar situations.

If home is a soft key then you have the AT&T SGS2. Go to that forum and ask for the key combination for download mode. Once you are in download mode flash a rom.

Get a JIG, it will put your phone into download mode.
I charged my phone all night last night.
I woke up, phone was fine. Set it down on the couch, came back to it noticing beeping every 5 seconds or so, as if it was being plugged in and then unplugged repeadidly.
I also noticed that my phone though it was charging, even though there wasn't anything charging it.
Wiped Battery Stats - Still Funky
Cleaned usb port/ battery with nail polish remover - Still Funky
Updated ROM (newest ShoStock)
Phone would not get past the 'GALAXY s2' Black Screen.
No big deal right?
But now I can't load CWM from the internal memory AND I can't boot it from an SD card. It won't do anything besides give the black Samsung 'GALAXY s2" screen!!!!
When it is plugged in it won't even give me the Samsung screen, it just has a frozen charging screen on it.
HELP!? :crying:

Vol Up + Power + Home (<--I think it's this one)
or
Vol Down + Power + Home
I've done them both.
Do you have AT&T SGSII, SGH-I777?
If so, then download mode is:
With phone off, hold vol- and vol+ (but not power) while plugging in the usb cable.

Hi guys
I'm facing a problem i'm not very comfortable with...
Just bought for my wife a Galaxy S2 running Gingerbread 2.3.5.
I planned to root it and migrate him later on to latest Sammy on JB...
As per many tutos, to root the tel, you inject ( using Odin) the right CF_root from chainfire once the telephone is in the so called download mode
and here comes the problem...Vol- & Home & Pwr do nothing...It just boots the tel...No DL mode at all !!!
Are there GS2 around with no DL mode ? or is there a way to force this DL mode ?
( I've tried a suggestion which did not work..i.e remove batt , wait 30s, press vol-,pwr, home and reiensert batt without releasing the keys)
Any suggestion more than welcome

Tried a USB jig? They are intended to force DL mode. Never used one myself though. What you've already done would have been my first port of call. Also, have you tried recovery mode? (Vol up, Home, power). That way you can tell if its the vol. down button thats not recognising the keypress. On my tablet, that's the case, it takes a bit of poking/fiddling to get into recovery mode as my vol up button is sketchy.

You can try something.....turn off phone, and pull out-reinstert battery.Don't turn on yet!Now start pressing and holding the VOL DOWN button only. With phone turned off,and pressing the VOL DOWN key,put in charger.Keep holding the button, until you see Download mode.If that doesn't work, maybe VOL button is faulty. Also, try a Jig.It has to work
Yeah...the USB Jig was THE solution...and without yr suggestion I would'nt have had the idea to use it..and this for a good reason...My own GS2 does not react to USB jig ( the only solution to enter DL mode is the key combination) where my wife's GS2 enters DL mode ONLY with this Jig...
So one more time, thks to you all...

Ah this is ennoying...because it means that, now i'm on JB 4.1.2 this jig may not work properly...
Why do I bother ?
Simply because I have discoverd that this new GS2 has probably an H/W problem i.e The Vol Down key seems to be dead and that leads to another question Are the Vol keys simple H/W stuff, establishing contact or not or is it under software control ?
Browsing PhilZ recovery, I've seen a brief on screen message "Vol Down enabled"followed immediately by "Vol Down disabled" which I've not been able to reproduce..
So i'm in the blue....H/W or S/W problem
BTW, there may be a solution I had not thought to...
the power button , when hit, takes me to a 4 way reboot in which there is among the options, reboot in download
this may be the solution i'm after...and which I'll test as soon as my wife lets me approach her phone...lol
thks fr yr concern
I would be very careful when mucking around without the proper hardware functions. I would advise getting it fixed before continuing. If something goes wrong and you need to use the hardware combo to get into download mode to flash stock, you're stuffed. End of story. Messing with phones with no escape plan is a bad idea.
Sent from my GT-I9100: Powered by Dorimanx, running RootBox
Mobile Odin will get you outta that button mess. You can always flash philz or siyah v6 with it.
You should get them fixed.

Hello experts,
I am not able to get into Download Mode with my Mega 6.3 running stock Android 4.2.2!
What I've triedwith phone powered down)
* Vol down + Home + Power ---> phone vibrates, display comes alive from black to grey and gets black again and shuts down (buttons still pressed; if I release any one button, normal booting is the result)
* Vol down + Power ---> same as above
* battery out, Vol up + Vol down, connect with USB-cable to PC (with Odin running and tar-file inserted) ---> same as above but battery charging symbol appears
Any suggestions are very well appreciated!!!

Will your mega actually boot and run? If so I'd suggest, of your rooted downloading something like quick boot or another menu boot app that will automatically be reboot you into download mode. Also make sure when you hold the buttons that you hold volume down and home then press and hold power. Sometimes phones can be a bit wonky with button commands

You've gotta hold home and volume down,...then press and hold power usually hold all 3 for like 10 or so seconds until it reboots, keep holding and bam.
Again no succsess! If I hold Vol down + Home and then press Power (from Homescreen) the phone shuts down and stays that way no matter how long I press/hold the buttons... The moment I release the buttons the phone boots normal!
I tried other buttons:
Vol down & up ---> phone starts in "Secure Mode"
Vol up ---> phone starts in "Recovery Mode" (can I use this mode for rooting?)
I am absolutely frustrated... but thanks for your help!!!
It all sounds quite a lot like a problem that I have. My screen broke and when the phone came back from service, my download mode was gone. It turned out that it was just blank graphically. One problem is that that when you enter download mode normally, you let go of the buttons when you see the graphics. If you keep pressing the buttons, then the device restarts after a while. I wonder if you can time it so that you enter download mode ( if your problem is the same as mine) and then press power and then volume up (the normal way to set download mode to receive flash) and then see if Odin recognizes the phone? I ordered a JIG to see if that would give me graphics in download mode, but it didn't. It worked the same way as the "blind key combo" so I tried flashing despite no graphics and it worked as it should. It felt a bit scary flashing through a broken download mode but I did it... That's my story
You can use Wanam Xposed (you have to be rooted and have installed Xposed Framework). In Wanam -> System you will find future 'Enable 4 way reboot menu'. Tick it and in 'Power switch menu' under 'Restart' you will find 4 Reboot options:
- Reboot
- Recovery
- Hotbot
- Download
It could resolve your problem, at least temporarely.
Of course there will be not 'download mode graphic' either but you can be sure so you are REALLY in download mode
Ullebear stated that his/her phone is not routed, so maybe Kingo root would be a good idea. I haven't tried it but I'm fairly certain it does not require you to be in download mode for the rooting process. Xposed and Wanam-stuff can be applied after that in order to more easily reach download mode without having to time the button pressing combo.
Please ullebear, let us know how it goes. I'm really curious about whether your problem is of the same nature as mine.
Kingo Root is working flawlessly on Mega GT-I9205, I have checked it myself.

Normaly you have to push volume up to continue but not with the jig you go straight into download mode.
Hello everybody...
In fact my phone wasn't able to go into "Download Mode" after getting it back from a repair of my display! I guess the authorized Samsung repair changed something in the firmware which always gave me a blank screen after pressing the correct button combination...
As suggested, I tried to go blindly into "Download Mode" by pressing Vol Up at the blank screen, but it didn't work
So here finally my solution (Kingo Root was too "suspicious" for me):
I ordered a USB Jig via Ebay compatible with Samsung Galaxy S2, S3 and Note (Mega was not listed as a supported type) for 2 bucks.
I powered down the handy and inserted the Jig ---> blank screen (but I hoped it would be the "blanked" warning screen before "Download Mode").
I pressed Vol Up, opened Odin, disconnected the Jig and connected the Mega via USB with the PC.
From there everything went smoothly Phone was recognized and I was able to root with installation of SuperSU!
Thanks for all you help - you are a great forum with very helpful members!!!
By the way: I am from Germany and my phone came preinstalled with French firmware!
