Hi all, on Sunday evening my rooted (omega v36) lost its connection to the network out of the blue for no reason, it had been running the rom for weeks with no changes, I've restored to stock, checked the imei for corruption & with network provider to make sure it's not blocked. The symptoms are that with a three sim I get signal bars, no data and when I try to make calls it says not registered on network, when I place in a Vodafone sim it gets data but says not registered on network. I'm totally at a loss and looks like I'm gonna have to sell for spares or repair. Does anyone have any ideas, is it any use to anyone as a spare or repair phone? I am in Southampton UK if anyone has any ideas maybe where I could take it etc.
Thanks

When you pull the notification bar down, does it say 3 or emergency calls only?
When I get the emergency calls only it will say i'm not registered on the network. It could be a three problem, you can also try blowing into the SD card reader see if a little dust has got in there somehow.
After these try flashing a different rom, or restoring a nandroid, I got this on SuperNexus once, flashed stock and it worked fine, could be something has just messed up when you flashed.
Please post for help in the Q&A section
Thanks

Shaun can I ask are you with t mobile? Ive recently got my phone back after experiencing the screen of the death. My s3 runs stock touch wiz and following 4 weeks I got the phone back last Thursday. Today after receiving a text message at 7am I've lost all network and when I go to settings > mobile networks the following error message appears: " insert sim card - insert sim card to access network services".
I've tested the micro sim in another S3 and it works fine leading me to believe once again the s3 has failed me after 7 days this time.
Phone info below.
Kernel version
3.0.31-742798
[email protected] #1
SMP preempt sat Dec 22 17:04:04 LST
2012
Build number
J2054k.i9300xxella
UPDATE: Works fine on WIFi, fatcory reset has achieved nothing.
Thanks.

I had the same problem sometime back. The problem could be your modem/radio. I got help here but I cant remember where exactly. Try looking for ariza.zip file and use it to flash your modem. Hope it works.

insert the sim properly with the golden plates down and the cut end outward. Then go to settings>>>wireless>>> untick the flight mode.
I think it's broken
Try reflashing back with the original stock rom.
It looks to me the baseband is not installed properly, and therefore unable to access IMEI, without a working baseband, you are unable to access the phone portion.
It could also be that the nv_data.bin file is damaged due to a bad sim unlock hack. If that is so, you will have to rebuild that file.
Again, try reflashing back to original stock rom, before trying to rebuild the nv_data.bin.
(Sorry to resurrect old-ish topic, but I think it's better to continue here than to make a new one.)
Same problem here, except the only custom thing I've ever run on this phone, is apps from market. I'm running SPB Shell 3D (legal version, but not through Android Market but the other thing SPB was selling their programs through... Handango? Not that it matters.)
The phone has been running ALMOST perfectly since day one. I can only remember two occasions that the phone was in "no reception" mode (the O with slash through it) and toggling Flight Mode on and then off fixed it both times before.
However, yesterday I noticed the icon again, thought nothing of it and switched Flight Mode on. It never went back on again. Googling the problem I bumped into the imei/baseband thing and sure as not, when checking my phone's data there is "unknown" in the baseband version and IMEI is empty.
Trying to enter Mobile Networks settings results in "insert sim" notification.
The phone is (OS-wise) completely stock, I think the only thing I have ever done to it since then was to update it to 2.3.5 via KIES when it became available.
Phone is unbranded and not simlocked and never was. The only alterations are the aforementioned SPB Shell 3D and WidgetLocker. And of course a bunch of "normal" apps, games and such.
I placed a call (which went unanswered for all it matters), then after a short while (five minutes or so) noticed the "no reception" -icon. Then all went to hell.
Tried with three different SIM cards, none work on this phone, all work on other phones. Currently SIM working in Galaxy Gio.
I plan to take the phone to repairs under warranty, I'll let you know what they say and what happens to the phone if I remember.
help!

READ the restore IMEI restore EFS posts but first backup data and try a factory reset .

In my case, it was perhaps a bit more extreme. I sent it to the repair shop under warranty, it came back practically new. They had changes most of the innards, including the motherboard. Something had apparently shorted itself and cleared some chip. Hadn't gotten anything more specific out of them and I've even sold the phone since then and got this Galaxy Note.

I have a similar issue with my SGS2
I ran my phone battery until it died and when I rebooted the no-network sign came up.
Now, it show's no baseband, no imei and if I dial *#1234# it shows up as Phone: Unknown
(I think it used to say GT-I9100)
I had a backup efs img and files from way back, and restored that several times along with a factory reset and tried installing different modems both original and others.
It's looking pretty bad.
Any thoughts on what else I can try to diagnose this before I send it back?
TIA, Daniel
Hi all, I figured this was the best place to ask this question as you lot seem to know alot
On friday evening my UK GS3 was updated to 19300XXBLFB via kies since then 90% of the time i make a phone call i get a com.android.phone stopped working message, if i press ok the call hangs up if i dont then i can still talk.
I cant recieve any calls as my phone just freezes, I have tried a factory reset and even tried a firmware and initilisation thing through kies but the problem is still happening.
I dont know if i could *flash* my phone and if i could would it solve the problem and or affect my warranty?
Cheers:crying:

Backup data and factory reset first .
You can if not fixed try flashing the firmware for your phone or a stock Samsung rom from the stock rom threads ,
Ignore root and custom rom fix .

do a factory reset. see if that fixes it. if not reflash. if none of the above works, try another firmware. if still fail, exchange your phone.

For you, a simple fix would be to back up all your settings, information, etc through kies. And then factory reset your phone in the settings and have it delete "everything."
Then sync all your apps, settings, contacts, etc through kies. Give this a try.
Later on if you feel more comfortable with hacking and flashing after doing tons of research, and I recommend doing a lot of research by reading all the stickie topics here. Then go right ahead. It does void your warranty but you can undue the hacks.
Thanks guys, I've just found that there is a repair center about a hour away so will be popping in there as soon as I can and I will call Samsung tomorrow and see what they advise
Don't use kies, its rubbish, broke my sgs1, stick to odin, flash latest stock for your area after full wipe, will be fine

If you've backed up your contacts and used Facebook contact sync app then simply don't restore your contacts after a factory reset. Worked for me

Hi all,
I have read through all the possible solutions that may have any relation to my problem, and I didn't find anything. So I just wanted to open my own thread about it.
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3, model no GT- I9300 with Android version 4.1.2, build no JZO54K.I9300XXELLA and as of a few months I'm not able to connect to the HSDPA or HSDPA+ network of my provider (Mobile Vikings Belgium). There is a perfect coverage of H and H+ where I live and I'm able to connect to it, but when I want to connect to the internet, i can't load web pages, or I can't access apps that need internet connection.
On the Samsung S3 there are 2 arrows that show download and upload, and only the upload arrow is blinking (the green one). My network mode is on auto, so that means it will connect to H when it's available, and it is, but only upload.
I already read stuff about changing something in the software by accessing the phone through an mmi code, but this doesn't work.
I didn't root my phone, i just have the original Kernel. The provider already helped me with possible changes in apn settings, but this doesn't help either. I figure it has something to do with my phone, and not the connectivity of the provider.
I hope somebody can help me out with this problem, because I am already connected to this slow Edge network for too long and I like to get what I paid for, like all you guys want.

Have you tried wiping all your data and your cache?
You can do this by powering off your device and then press and hold the Volume up button, the homebutton and the powerbutton at the same time. Then, It should boot in Recovery Mode. From there you can select Wipe all data and select it with the powerbutton.
Please note that you will lose all data that's on your device.
I know that Mobile Vikings EDGE can be a real pain in the ass!
First of all, thank you for that reply. I already did a factory reset. But I'm asking myself if this is the same thing as you just told me? I think it really has something to do with a setting on my phone, something that is blocked so that I can't get an H connection.

you need to install a custom recovery and flash different modems
I've got the exact same problem as you have. I'm also a viking.
Sometimes I just can't seem to use the data, I never got down to the conclusion that it might be the HSDPA but it makes sense.
It's only been a problem since I updated to 4.1 for me. When I first got my phone everything worked fine.
Is the only problem for this problem rooting and flashing the phone ?
If thats what it takes sure but it sounds like a mayor overkill to me.
-> I've just resolved the problem for me by taking another look at the apn settings by hand.
Mobile vikings texts you the settings, which work just find but not for the hsdpa.
If i edit my settings as they describe here: https://mobilevikings.com/bel/nl/setup/#/samsung/i9300-galaxy-s-iii/internet/handmatig-instellen
It seems to work for me now. I'll report back if it breaks again .
Thanks for some new insights on this problem. Can you explain me what "flashing to a new modem" means?
And I have to root my phone to solve it you all think? I'm just afraid that the whole thing won't work anymore because of that.

You dont need root to flash a modem ...If its a Odin flashable modem .
Modem/ Baseband is country ./ network specific for some a different modem may improve a bad signal .
Likewise CSC wrong may mean you have wrong network APN details unless you enter them manually .
Basics Faqs and Guides .includes flashable modems .

Hi. I just read some noob stuff on that link you've sent me. I decided to try flashing the modem. And I really hope it works. But when I want to download the file, I don't know if I have to take the cwm or Odin one. I don't have a rooted phone, but you said it wasn't needed. I have android 4.1.2.
My country and network is not in that list so I guess it's just that JB directory I needed to click.

Guys, just had the same thing when switching back to my S2.
I got an sms with 'press this and you will get the correct settings'
When driving back from work someone just sent me a whatsapp and I couldn't open it up.
Just went to the apn settings ----->> more -> mobile networks -> access points names -> do a new apn and name it like 'mv2' or so
apn = web.be
username = web
password = web
No need to change something else! Save it and make sure it is selected
So you say I have to make another apn right next to the other one then? Or delete the other one but it has the same things in it. I put them in manually, so it's the same as your settings.

Nope, extract it on your computer and open Odin on your computer. Now, boot your phone in 'Download mode' (Hold power button, home button and volume down), next press the volume up button to proceed. Load the .MD5 file in the PDA section of odin and don't touch anything else. Press start to start the flashing. It should flash everything. Don't forget to wipe data and cache afterwards.

OK. Total noob. Followed some of threads on here to a point but seem to be foiled at every turn.
My prob in a nutshell. S5830i kept on running out of internal memory (even though I didn't add any more apps to it - I deleted some). In the end it ground to a halt. My solution was to do a factory reset. It all came back fine apart from no mobile network connectivity, no IMEI and a phone number neither me or Three mobile have seen before. Samsung can't find my account so Keis isn't helping either.
Searched around on this forum. Downloaded the latest firmware. Downloaded clockwork recovery. Paid for the ODIN app. Rooted phone OK. Then Odin didn't recognise the device.
All I want to do is upgrade the f~**ing firmware. Any ideas before I just buy another phone?

Hey everyone
My Galaxy S3 will not connect to my Airtel GSM network (India). When going into the service providers it shows all the provides but will not connect to any of them. The error I get is that "Selected network (Airtel) is unavailable", so that means it is getting the signals from the network but is not connecting to them.
A little background, yesterday night my phone restarted and got stuck on the loading screen (the one that says Samsung), I searched on the net and went into the recovery mode (Volume up + Power + home) and there found that the error was that the efs partition could not be read. I've never rooted the phone or even tried to install a custom ROM. I did a factory reset and cleared cache and when that did not work I got desperate and tried to search online for a solution . I finally ended up using this
Youtube video titled E: failed to mount /efs (invalid argument) Galaxy S3 ... Can't post the url since I'm new here
I think this killed my IMEI number but it got the phone working again
The phone booted correctly however all text was in Portuguese and it had some really notifications that I did not understand.
Since I'd already lost all my data I decided to install the cynogenmod too CM11M7 (snapshot) hoping that would resolve most of these issues. The mod worked perfectly with everything including wifi running. However the only thing that does not work is that it will not connect to the GSM network. Please advise, really need this phone to work
Can I do a recovery using Odin? Will flashing another modem work, my current baseband number is I9300XXUGNA8? any other steps that I should be taking?

Yeah, without an efs backup, your IMEI is ruined. I suggest you flash back to a stock rom and take the device in for repair, if it is still under warrantee they should fix it for free, provided you have stock recovery and rom the device came with. You can search the General thread for how to do this.

I wish it was that simple ...
Sorry, should've posted the solution earlier incase anyone else had the same problem
Took the phone to a service center, they re registered my IMEI. Charged me about 1200 INR (about 20$) to do so since the phone was purchased in the USA. After that it started working again. I've installed all the updates and it all seems to work fine. The lesson is that everyone, regardless of whether you are planning to tinker with the phone, should have a backup of the EFS partition.
