Hey,
So I unlocked & rooted my DNA last night and I wanted to remove the Verizon bloat. So, like I would do on any other rooted phone, I went to TiBu and uninstalled the crapware. Upon rebooting my phone, all of them reappeared. I then went to Root Explorer and tried straight up deleting the apk/odex files...same thing happened - they all reappeared after reboot.
I am able to freeze them within TiBu...which is a less than desired solution...I want them gone. Anyone know what's going on? If it wasn't clear, I'm using the stock Sense ROM and I'm definitely rooted. Thanks!
You have to flash a custom kernel that allows system write.

Ah, makes sense...I'm assuming that pretty much means any custom kernel on this forum? (This is my first non-Nexus root experience, so I apologize for the ignorance=/)
i think its dsb's cubed kernel or dsb's custom stock kernel

There's 3 kernels with system write. Dsb's modded stock kernel as well as his more modified cubed kernel. There's also elkay's kernel. More or less, yes, all the custom kernels for the DNA will give you system write access. Zarboz's kernel is the only one that doesn't.

I flashed Bionix 1.3.1 and noticed that there are a few app's (like the bln and voodoo control)
I was wanting to flash the overclocked kernal to mess around with those apps. I've got it downloaded and its on my phone.
Do I just flash the kernal like i would flash a theme or a rom. Do I have do disable anything like voodoo.

Yes, to the first part of your question. No, to the second part of your question as long as you choose a kernel with voodoo LF already enabled.

You got it, just flash it like you'd flash a rom.
Better read each kernel's OP. But you can flash any kernels listed in Bionix-v 1.3.x (overstock.., categorically.., dragon, DOW) on top your ROM's kernel with voodoo enabled without disable it. But if you want to flash Dead Horse kernel, you should prefer to disable voodoo or any lagfixes before, and then you can configure again later to ext4, jfs, or other. Otherwise you may experience strange self reboot, wipe SD and abrupt broken user apps, as i did. Anyway, all have BLN and voodoo sound as you expected.
Good luck.
Thanks all for the info flashed the overstock kernal in like 5 seconds (minus the boot time) with no hiccups
So what exactly does a kernal do to the phone?

Kernel deals with low level operations on the phone - it's like an interface between the rest of the android system and the phone hardware. That's why you need a new kernel for things like BLN.

I have another kernal related question
I want to flash a new rom (trigger by edt) I currently am using Bionix 1.3.1 and i currently have the overstock 2.0 kernal installed
My question is do I just flash the rom over the kernal or are there special steps involved.
Smells like WINNING from my T-959 xda premium app
Warning! Super noob question:
I was just wondering if my stock ROM can be over clocked. I have SetCPU but it appears that the max values have Lready been set as high as they will go (1500 mhz). If I want to go higher do I need a custom ROM or kernel? I just rooted my Note and I've never done this before. Honestly I don't have much of a clue as to what I'm doing lol.

U need a custom kernel just flash one that is compatible

You can do it on the stock ROM, you just need an OC kernal. So you can either flash the kernal through Odin, or flash CWM, then flash the kernal.
Sweet. Thanks guys. I got tired of trying to mess with the over clocking and just flashed the ICS ROM over. Its buggy.. but I suppose it will do until the legit one comes out.

I realised why none of the roms would work without flashing stock kernel cuz I deleted my stock backup that had my stock kernel this is the only thing that makes sense but I may be wrong the roms prolly come with the stock kernel If I'm right is it possible I can get the stock kernel?

I hear that some kernals are better than others and I assumed they change when you change your ROM but I'm not sure. I feel like I would have better battery life with a better kernel.

No, changing your ROM doesnt always result in changed kernel. Also depends on Stock or Custom ROM. Stock Rom flashed with Odin will probably change your kernel to the one provided in the ROM package, but if you install custom ROMs through recovery then your kernel will not change.
i have cyanogenmod and want flash this kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2027201) but i'm getting stuck at the boot logo.
i wiped cache , dalvik and data.
Do you have an international device?

In case you're trying to use this kernel in CM 10.2/Android 4.3, it won't work. But it doesn't matter since CM kernel for this device is based on blade kernel. So just use the one included in the rom.zip

No it's 10.1.3 . If it's not different , are there other kernels? I can't find any.

Ok, another thing is, that CM requires ramdisk changes in comparison to other AOSP roms, which is probably the reason it does not work. But also here the CM kernel is based on maxwens blade kernel, you have all features and options from blade kernel with the kernel included in rom.zip.

yeah but I just wanted a kernel that would allow me to tweak stuff like voltage and number of active cores , as the one that comes with CM roms usually don't allow that

It is the same kernel! Only with some Ramdisk changes to make your phone boot with CM installed, you have all those features if you use the kernel from inside the rom zip file!

Last try to explain it to you: the kernel included in CM rom.zip is the blade kernel by maxwens, there are only some very small changes to get it booting with Android 4.3 and some Cyanogenmod related things. CM does require certain kernel changes (not really kernel but ramdisk, which is also included in the boot.img) in order to get the kernel working. So as is said the kernel in the rom.zip file is the blade kernel with all of it's features, only some minor modifications were made (you won't notice any of them) to make it work with Cyanogenmod 10.2.
Now I get it, thanks
