It will still be rooted so you have access to more apps and stuff but it will still be locked to the network.

Hi there,
I've recently got a new phone - Xperia Active.
It's locked to a Skinny Mobile Network as the packaging says "This phone will only work with Skinny Sim!". - I bought this from site similar to ebay. The phone is brand new - won in a competition.
http://skinny.co.nz/
I spoke to customer service who told me that it would cost $30 to unlock it but if i am with them for 9 months, it's free.
The questions I had in mind are:
1) Is it safe to flash a custom firmware on a 'locked sim network' phone?
2) What is the steps I have to take to flash a custom firmware i.e. expeacer's muiu or Real ICS ??
3) After 9 months i decide to unlock my phone (sim lock), would anything stuff up i.e if i stick another sim card in, the menu doesn't show up for entering the network unlock code.
Update:
checked my bootloader settings. It says: Unlock bootloader allowed: No

Custom firmware means a combination of custom Rom and custom kernel
1. You can only flash custom Rom's which have support for locked bootloader and I don't think you will get any problem with it (I'll better leave it for someone else to answer because I've never used a network locked phone)
2. As said above you can only flash custom Roms with locked bootloader and you can NEVER FLASH A CUSTOM KERNEL. You cannot use Roms which require their own custom kernel.
3. NO. you can stick up any sim after unlocking your phone with the unlock code your network provider (skinny) gives you . As your network provider said you can purchase the unlock code by paying 30 bucks or wait for nine months and get it from them for free. Either way you need a unlock code to use other sim cards.
and I'm sorry you can never use Roms which require custom kernels even if you have unlocked your network locked phone because your phone says "bootloader unlock allowed:NO" it means you can never use custom Roms like Cyanogenmod or other custom Roms which requires their own kernel to be flashed prior flashing the Rom .
To flash a custom kernel you need a unlocked bootloader and to unlock your bootloader your phone has to say "bootloader unlock allowed:yes" unfortunately yours says NO
EDIT: I learned that you could ask the network provider to change the bootloader status to yes after getting through the prescribed period of 9 months or after paying 30 bucks. After getting it to show 'yes' you can unlock the bootloader and flash custom kernels.
HIT THANKS IF I HAVE HELPED YOU!

ok thanks,i will give thanks all for reply my question.
The phone comes with the sim unlocked. You can use it with another carrier's sim card without any extra steps. (You may need to verify compatility of the radios/frequencies).
There is a second lock on the phone - the bootloader. You will see many threads regarding unlocking the bootloader, as well as "rooting" - getting superuser access. Unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with the sim. Unlocking/locking the bootloader will not affect the sim card lock (or lack thereof).
It is, and always will be(unless Verizon tries to update it and lock it down), sim unlocked. So you can use any sim in it.
But it is not boot loader unlocked stock. You have to do that yourself.

If it's the unlock code for your simlock, it could happen that it'll change to yes, but I'm not sure. Try it and report please

Nope, unlocking SIM will not enable your fastboot, that means Bootloader Unlock Allowed stays No.

Hmmm...True....Sim Lock and Bootloader Lock is two different things...unlocking Sim will not make Bootloader Unlock Allowed = Yes....

But how does Wotan server work then? I mean if you unlock via Wotan server (with bl unlock allowed:no and simlock) some people said they were able to unlock the bootloader?

I don't know how it works .. but it works ... Wotan unlocks bootloader even if it says NO in service menu

This is done different. WotanServer requires using the test point method, this also enables the fastboot. However, this works only on phones, that have been manufactured before 12W11. Newer phones have newer type of security, test point method no longer works on those.
Using the code is inserted by firmware, it does allow different SIM cards, however does not affect bootloader at all.
I can unlock and relock my bootlader via s1tool crippled with s2 cmds ,no problem , I recieve virgin unlock from Sony , on Sony headed paper , but no it didnt reset my status to yes , im wondering if fastboot will enable now I have no sim lock,or will I have to edit the sin tool cmd file for mango or get jinxs to enable all for me

When I first received my S5, I believe I saw the option to unlock the bootloader via the settings menu. I thought it was a build that the device came with on either 5.0 or 4.4.2. I was wondering because I was wanting to download to it to see if the option was still available and if it still supported it's desired function. I just want an unlocked bootloader to be honest

The T-Mobile version of the S5 (SM-G900T) comes with an unlocked bootloader. I point this out, since you posted this on the T-Mobile forum.
Do you have a phone other than a SM-G900T?

I do, SM-G900T, but I'm not so certain my bootloader is unlocked, if it was, I would have the unlock symbol on the first boot splash screen.

It comes with an unlocked bootloader, if you're asking for the purpose of flashing a custom recovery or kernel you're all set you can do so automatically

Okay, so that explains how you can flash a custom recovery / kernel without the need to root first. Makes sense.
Hey guys, I'm not a developer but I could use some help to be able to use my phone again. I just moved to another country and can't use SIM because it's locked by the original operator.
Well, I've managed to root the device (RootCheck says so) and installed SuperSu. What should I do now to unlock the phone's SIM capabilities? Install a new ROM? unlock bootloader?
Thank you in advance
Charo
There is no bootloader unlock for the D625 and, thus, no custom ROMs.
Flash an unbranded version of your phone's firmware with LG Flash Tool.
I've tried a couple KDZ but SIM is still locked.
Any other options for this?

Try one that says "open" or "unbranded".
