[Q] Put back to "Out of the Box" - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I'm selling my SGS2 this evening. currently running on 4.0.4 official. How to set it back to "out of the box" state. Cant find factory reset anywhere? I want everything to get deleted.
Kind regards.

Hello, sad to see an s2 being sold :'( you should find it along with the back up and restore option's.

Go to recovery mode and do factory reset/data clean cache and dalvik cache and you are done!

Flash LS8 and sell it as an SII Plus

What to do before selling my Vibrant

Can someone tell me what I need to do before I sell my Vibrant. It is probably best if I restore it back to stock..so hardware reset will do it? Also, i am worries about data and if the person who buys it can somehow retrieve deleted stuff. I do not have an extra SD card, just whatever it came with..
I would be very thankful if someone has gone through the process and can advise me what to do.. like a checklist or something
If I was you I would Odin back to stock. Then go into settings> then go into backup and reset> then click factory reset. After this I would go into storage and erase SD card

Yup! me too would Flash back to Stock 2.1 !!! And Factory reset.
It depends on the buyer really. You could put it on ebay and offer to sell it with whatever OS the buyer wants. I would boot into recovery and wipe and format everything you can, then odin back to stock.

I would go into recovery and format sdcard and then Odin back to stock. Should take care of everything.

When I had sold my old phone - did the same ODIN back to 2.1. Factory Reset, then Format SD Card (And still went into recovery and re-did everything to make sure it was clean)
After all of that mess... I still plugged in the phone and had to do some additional clean up
Flashing back to stock is a good idea, but I found that by using the SGS unlocker tool available in the Play Store and upgrading to 4.0.4 I was actually able to get more money for it on eBay. It sold almost immediately for my full asking price. Apparently there is a good market for rooted, unlocked smartphones running the latest Android (JB wasn't released back then).

Issues when returning to stock

Looking for a little help please.
Trying to return to stock and I have flashed 2 different stock roms from samfirmware, nd each time when booted it tells me messenger has stopped working.
If I open the app it force closes.
Any idea what might be causing this? I need it back to stock ASAP as I am selling the phone.
It's starting to give me a real headache at the moment
Thanks in advance

Re root your device with cfroot. Before flashing back to stock run triangle away and then go into cwm, wipe factory reset and then go to mounts and storage and format system and then data. Go to advance clear dalvik cache and then go into download mode and flash stock again. This should help,I flagged back to stock following this procedure today and it worked a charm.

i did a factory reset but not sure if it all went through properly. gonna root and triangle away now and report back. thanks guys
sounds like it you didn't wipe data/cache!
I've gotten that error many times also. It has nothing to do with the wipe. Just install the same ROM over again. Installing again take care of it. Good luck!

[Q] Selling my S2

Hi
I'm about to sell my S2 but before I do I want to make sure that I've deleted any private info etc from it.
Normally I'd do a factory reset but this is on 4.0.4 and eMMC check shows it has an insane chip.
How would you recommend I clear all personal data etc off?
Cheers
Im assuming you rooted so if you have stock or stock based kernel, don't wipe or do factory reset with CWM and you should be fine but I'm not really an expert so I can't be too sure

Factory reset through security. From how I understand it can only brick if factory reset through recovery menu.
Thank for that, I'd read the thread about the 4.0.04 hard brick as the normal factory reset could brick it! I've just reset it and it's ready to go.
I did brick my other rooted S2 by resetting through CWM though but Samsung repaired it under warranty - just didn't want to go through that again!

[Q] Android phone won't boot after reset?

Hi everyone:
I need your help. Sorry in advance if this post doesn't belong here.
I recently got a Galaxy S3 clone phone with an MTK-6575 chip. I received it with Android 4.1.1 rooted.
Today I did on it a factory reset because I am going to sell it. I did the reset from the Android settings... However, when the phone restarted itself after the factory reset, it won't boot any more. I just gets to the welcome screen and it won't load the OS... What can I do? What could be the problem?
I still can get into recovery/download mode tough...
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance...
Did you try to flash stock rom again?
Clear cache and dalvik?

I think if you are on custom rom, so you can't just factory reset it. Try flashing a Rom over it.

[Q] True factory reset?

I did search how to factory reset but in those threads people generally ask how to KEEP files and settings etc., but I want to delete everything, settings, files, contacts etc. I want my phone to just as when I took it out of the box.
I'm on stock 4.0.4 ROM, rooted, and I did delete some stock Samsung apps, will I have them back when I factory reset. And is it better to do factory reset or just re-flash ROM via Odin.
Thanks

Click to collapse
Deleted apps won't come back to life. Factory rests turns your settings to presets (Android Version's Presets).
If you want an "out-of-the-box" ROM, you're gonna have to flash another one (as long as you didn't have a back up, which i'm guessing you don't).
If you wanna flash a new ROM, beware for the brick bug on 4.0.4.

Can I safly re-flash/downgrade to 4.0.3 ROM then update again via wifi?...
