LG Optimus G (F180) source code now available? - AT&T LG Optimus G

Probably most of you DEVs already noticed but if not, JB source code for the Korean model (F180) is now available on LG's open source page:
https://wws.lg.com/global/support/opensource/opensourceList?types=ALL&search=f180
Hope that helps the community to move forward on new JB ROMs!!

This has already been posted in here. Thanks, though.

Ziggy kernels

The thread in the dev section was shut down by the mods for having an external link. Ziggy does not want to maintain a thread of his own on xda since he already maintains his site. So if any of you want to find his kernels, you can google ziggy471.
I have found his kernels to be beasts both for the inc and for the bolt. And have helped him test those for both devices. If anybody wishes to ask questions, feel free to do so on his site. He is very responsive.
Finally, I'm not sure why xda cares so much about external links. Its not as though they share ad revenue with devs who actually drive business to the site with their work!

I also agree, used Ziggy kernels on previous devices and they were great.
Thanks for the info, ill be trying his kernel for the tbolt now
Its dumb that they don't allow externel links...

Hold on a second... A lot of devs link to their external sites... This is not unusual... Is this a new rule?

I assume it's because his site contains a pseudo-blog. They don't allow that.
If the external site is purely downloads-only it's typically allowed. None of the mods ever had issue with devs hosting files on my site and linking to them.
Not sure why they are enforcing that now but the storm thread was also locked down for a short while.
And you are right, many of the threads have external links. I'm curiously watching which threads they go after and which ones are holy cows.

Been running the 4-6 Kernel on the Virus ROM 3.1 and it rocks
Just to clarify, yes my thread was closed due to external links but that's not the whole story. From what I understood from the moderator all kernels posted on xda has to be complaint to the GPL. I can post links to his kernel only if ziggy provides a link to his source. Will contact ziggy later for this info if possible so I can get my thread open again.

That's my understanding too. XDA is really big on being compliant with GPL. When someone asks for a kernel source and there is no response, 99.9/100 XDA will close the thread.
But if Ziggy is well known then why would they assume he was doing something damaging with his kernels?

It has nothing to do with that. XDA adheres to the GPL, and so should he. He is breaking the license by not posting his source. By the way, check his github. He is not publishing it.

Anyone remember the stink we had over HTC doing the same thing?
I have never fully understood the gpl thing. Can somebody explain what it means in non legal terms? Why isn't it a problem if google does not release their honeycomb source code? I'm confused. Also, does this apply only to kernels or to roms too? And finally are there any carve outs for developer's to create unique code for themselves? Or if I decide to modify something for myself, I have to share it, github etc.

By the way, it was never a thread he started. It was posted by somebody else to start a discussion on xda about his kernels. Ziggy had never really cared to be on xda himself. He did not have a thread on the inc kernels either. And none of us cared, because all knew where to get them.
Sent from my thunderbolt
Then get them there.
Posting them here requires adherence to the GPL.
As mentioned earlier, it was not his thread. We have always gotten them from his site. Somebody else started a discussion thread for the benefit of users. I was surprised on seeing the thread because he found maintaining a thread too much work and xda also is not the correct format.
If the gpl license terms have to be applied always, can we please also ban all miui threads too? Lets not be hypocritical. Miui has never released its source code either yet their threads thrive.

Miui is not GPL. Hardly relevant.

Ziggy's BFS kernel is amazing. Trying it out now and I still have 58% left after 7 hours. Wow...love this kernel! And that's with pretty heavy use. Its a keeper!

Why is that not gpl? Its an android rom. Why would they be exempted from what cyanogen follows?

HTC only has to post there code for kernals not sense. Same with miui. Cyanogen is open source by choice, a community rom

Kernel=GPL.
Rom= mix of proprietary and Apache licensed source.
Apache does NOT require you to release your source.

How is this the wrong thread? This is for android development is it not?
what you are asking is a question. This is development only. Now if you were to post a link to this "source code" and change the name of this topic to htc view HC kernel development and start a conversation out by saying "Here is the source code to the HC kernel for the View" then THAT would be acceptable in this forum ;-) just saying....
Now I'd probably change or do something before you get flamed by a whoooole lot of people lol

Its worth rooting just for v6 supercharger. That script is pretty incredible. To OP: this forum is for releasing goods only, everything else goes into general.

Locked Kernel Thread

flapjaxx's CM10/AOKP/JB kernel thread was closed, no info in the OP. This was the only JB kernel thread for i717 Note...Anybody knows what's up?
Been moved to a different forum. The link is floating around in one of his other posts.

Version 1.3 got released yesterday on his goo.im site.
I just noticed his thread and most of his other ones are now locked. The PA thread is in a completely different forum and every other post towards the end is oka1, so that's turning to **** too.
I've had luck talking to the XDA admins before...might get them to look into the state of the Note forums because it really is getting rediculous.

[Q] original note dev section... Difference?

Been Modding for a while. Galaxy S, HTC, etc. Just got a Note from a friend and this is the only phone I've seen a dev section and "original" what's the difference? I don't want to end up with a fancy brick...

The original Dev section is for development related items and topics that are original work. Not ported roms, re-baked parts etc.
You would find a rom here made from source, such as cyanogenmod, or perhaps an original kernel. Everything else is in the regular Dev section....g
