I want to root my Flyer. (I have never rooted before either) I currently still run the stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 on my Flyer. I would like to put ICS on it. Do I need to do S-Off first and then root? Or do I need to upgrade to Honeycomb and then root? Please help with rooting instructions as I have never done so.
First of all unlock your bootloader here.
Next download this recovery.
Put the recovery in the same folder as the fastboot tools (You should know what I'm saying if you unlocked the bootloader)
open cmd change the directory to the recovery plug the flyer with usb turn on usb debugging in the flyer and type the following commands
Code:
adb reboot bootloader ( this will boot in to fastboot mode)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Download Super SU here
Put the zip file somewhere in your tablet's sd card. Insert the SD in the flyer
Boot into recovery
Navigate to Install zip from SD card>Choose zip from SD card and install Super SU
and your done
Your Flyer will not be S-OFF but the bootloader will be unlocked
You can be on Gingerbread or on Honeycomb however you like

There is a custom rom!
Well, in the last post, instead of flashing su, you could download DextersJB Zip file, then flash it. Then go to bootloader again and fastboot. Next, on your computer, connect flyer to pc and open command prompt. Then use winrar to extract the boot.img from the flyer folder of the zip file. then, go to command prompt and type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
FOR PhoneUI, use boot-htckeys.img
youre all set! now you are on Jellybeam, which is more better, smpother, and more recent than ICS!

Hi eveybody,

Thank you very much for your reply. Can you write more details, I am a newbie.
Wrong section this should be in q&a
You need to have fast boot installed on your pc
You need cmw zip for flyer hc
You need to place this zip in same directory as Fastboot commands
You need to get into Fastboot mode on your flyer and connect to pc
You need to open a cmd terminal on your pc and change to the directory that contains Fastboot and recovery
Then enter command
Fastboot flash recovery "name of recovery zip"
Then you should be able to get into recovery to flash a hc rom
All of these files can be found in links posted in the op of threads in flyer development. Look for an old thread by Paul obrien (or something like that) about updating to hc leaks. Everything you need should be there

I did........ but it is fail. My boot menu "freeze". I have to Vol Down + Power to restart. Is my root damage?
Sorry to ask many question.
My XPS is ROOTED w/o unlocking bootloader.
I follow the following instruction to install CWM on my XPS.
However, I got stuck when typing the cmd comment.
It kept telling me the device is not rooted, but Im certain on the fact that
my XPS is rooted since I have superuser, RE, Titanium backup.
PS: I am using Generic CH (1257-3740) XPERIA S LT26i ROM (6.1.A.0.452)
How to Install Doomlord’s ClockworkMod Recovery on Xperia S
Download the Doomlord CWM Recovery image (download link here) and the Wi Fi Module for Doom Kernel (download link here) and place the same to the computer.
Go and rename the “S-DooMKernel-v01_kernel.elf” file into “kernel.elf”.
Copy the file renamed on the same folder with ADB / fastboot.
Take your phone and its USB cord and by using both connect it with the computer.
Copy-paste the “S-DooMKernel-v01-Modules.zip” file from the PC to the Xperia S SD card.
Disconnect the smartphone from the computer.
Reboot it by entering in fastboot; press the Volume Up button while connecting the phone with the PC.
On the computer open command prompt (Start -> run -> cmd) and enter the command: fastboot flash boot kernel.elf. If this isn’t working try with: fastboot -i 0x0fce flash boot kernel.elf.
The handset should reboot.
When you see the light turn blue hold the Voluem Up button. The Xperia S will enter in recovery mode.
In the recovery menu select “install zip from sd card” and pick the file copied there on step 3.
The installation procedure should begin. Don’t press anything as the process might take up to 10 minutes to complete.
In the end, from the recovery mode menu select “reboot system now” and you are done.
There you have it; that was the easiest and fastest way in which you can learn how to install Doomlord’s ClockworkMod Recovery on your Xperia S smartphone. Do tell us if there were problems on your way, of if you had issues in understanding one of my directions. Now you can go and update your Xperia S with the lasts ROMs available. Take a look and see if the Cyanogen Mod 9 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM is what you are looking for.
Waiting for someone else to confirm this method. You should post it on General or maybe Dev section, to attract more attention.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
or is there any other method to get CWM???
thx for replying tho

Two threads in different sections?
You are not bricked. What were you looking to accomplish
Flyer
I was unlocking a friend's bootloader the other day via HTCDev for another phone. I unplugged during the process as well however this didn't affect it. Your bootloader is telling you that you're also unlocked. How long have you waited on the black screen after the HTC logo?
If you hold power and volume down to enter the bootloader then go into fastboot mode, can you connect the Flyer to your PC and enter the following command into a terminal;
Code:
fastboot devices
A serial number will come up if your Flyer is being recognised. If this is the case it would be possible for you to flash a custom recovery enabling you to then flash a custom rom.

Sorry actually I get this:
HT15SJN00622 fastboot
I would think, as mentioned, your best route is to flash a recovery then a rom. Has to be a rom with a stock kernel so I suggest either virtuous or iodriod. Assuming your on hc which I believe is the case. Download a rom to your pc then download this and place it in the same directory as your Fastboot commands
https://m.box.com/view_shared/9bb9ba944ea6f301afe8
Then with flyer in Fastboot and connected
Fastboot flash recovery "name of file here"
Then go back to hboot and select recovery should now have it. Under options in recovery mount to pc and place rom you downloaded on your external sd. Then go back and select install zip from sd find the rom and flash it

I wanted to go back to gingerbread
but now i regret it
question:
by putting those two files to the same directory can I put them in my folder adb with adb.exe, fastboot.exe ?
I have a problem with this, I am not sure ..
So you have a best buy flyer and wanted to roll back to gb. Your hboot says unlocked and you have not yet flashed a recovery. First thing I want to do is get you booted then if you still have the stomach you can go back to gingerbread.
If you have not already, download the recovery.img I linked. Place it in the same folder as the Fastboot.exe. Put your flyer in Fastboot mode.
Open a command prompt on your pc. Change to the directory that has your adb/Fastboot commands. Type
Fastboot flash recovery "name of downloaded recovery file.img"
No quotations just file name then hit enter
Should flash recovery. Download a hc rom to your pc, I suggest iodriod which is a smaller file. Then place it on ext sd and flash like you would any rom.

The file name was hc recovery right?
Btw I want to thank you for hepling me.
Also I do not have the stomach to downgrade anymore, I just want my flyer to work again
Did you put the .img at the end of the name?

Remove any space in file name. So just hcrecovery.img
I was trying to flash the Fourth Bar rom without a SD card (Because I don't have one) and my phone is now stuck at the white HTC screen.
I can access TWRP and Bootloader, I get to Fastboot USB, but my phone isn't in the fastboot devices in the command prompt.
Is there any way to fix this?

have you made a nandroid backup of your phone before you tried to flash a rom without a SD CARD? and yes there is a way to fix it
simple solution
Step 1: Boot phone into bootloader by removing battery then placing battery back in phone then turning phone on by holding VOL down and Power button
Step 2: use hansoons AIO toolkit while in bootloader (fastboot) to flash 4EXT recovery
Step 3: boot into recovery and use 4EXT's to mount your phone to the PC using their "toggle USB storage" feature which lets you access your SD card (or internal storage) while in recovery
Step 4: place another ROM on your phone, and then disconnect phone from PC (since you dont have a SD Card place rom on internal storage)
Step 5: do a full system wipe before you flash new rom, Format DATA SYSTEM CACHE+DELVIK
Step 6: FLASH Rom you placed on phone previously
Step 7: After flashing rom successfully go back into 4ext recovery or download 4ext recovery control, and make a NANDROID backup in-case you fk **** up later or again
STEP 8 ( HIT THAT THANKS )
^That's a great solution^
But if you are S-ON, chances are the rom flashed correctly, but the kernel has to be flashed through fastboot.
You can do try this
Option ONE:
1) extract the ROM.ZIP
2) find a file named "boot.img" (it's either in the kernel folder or should just be in the root of the exracted folder)
3) flash the boot.img using this command (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
4) reboot the phone, and you should be good to go.
If you're s-On you'll need to flash the kernel.
Don't forget to let us know if you got it working so we kno if its been solved or not

I'm guessing you want to place a rom on your sdcard, if you have a recovery of some sorts, go into recovery mode, then use adb to push a rom into your sdcard.
If you don't have a recovery, flash this using fastboot: http://bit.ly/1dtNvWg
Flashing the recovery: connect your phone via usb, go into bootloader and select fastboot, then on your computer go into cmd (in the folder with fastboot and adb) and do: fastboot flash recovery (name of the recovery image, default should be "recovery.img" WHEN FLASHING PUT THE recovery image in the same folder as adb and fastboot!)
ADB & Fastboot: http://bit.ly/L1rwJX NOTE: ONCE YOU DOWNLOAD THE FASBOOT AND ADB GO INTO START BAR LEFT HAND CORNER AND SEARCH CMD AND COPY PASTE INTO THE DOWNLOAD FOLDER WITH ADB AND FASTBOOT
Once you have flashed a recovery (if needed) copy and paste whatever rom you downloaded into the adb and fastboot folder, open cmd (in same folder) [NOTE: MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS IN RECOVERY] and do: "adb remount" this will remount your device and to make sure your device is mounted do: "adb devices" is should list your phone. Next for pushing the actual files do: "adb push (filename:ex "rom.zip") (path) <-- [For path I would do /sdcard] Because rom's are around 600-700mbs it will take a bit, [DON'T UNPLUG USB CABLE] around 3mins. And soon as its done go into recovery and flash the rom. Walla!
Thanks for your help.
My phone work another and when htc anounced no new upgrade for one x / x+ i sale it on ebay.
