[Q] Anyone running Stock LS8 without issues - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im considering flashing upto XWLS8, but was wondering if theres anyone running this ROM on Samsung Stock Kernel & Stock ROM without Rooting their S2 and free of any media/DCIM issues.
From what ive read around this forum, the bootloop appears to have an issue with SuperSu, different Kernels and rooted S2s, not sure about the media file corruptions.
Also, im right in thinking i can just flash back to 404 LPT with ODIN if it all goes wrong?
Any success stories with LS8

I'm not running pure stock, but I have not experienced any of the freezes/bootloops others have experienced. (knock on wood)

Thanks for the reply, do I find the battery life is better than 404

I tried it and after a day have gone back to 404 it was simple i had boot loop which panicked me at first but was ok.
I went back as phone drained quicker with last 50% and screen started to get warm when off with nothing running. Am waiting for Samsung to release to us

You got plenty of stories here. Read from page 740 and on.
Keep in mind that people are more prone to write about things not working rather than "everything works fine", you'll probably find these positive remarks coming from active users.
Every problem has a fix or a workaround as far as I could tell.

Thanks for the replies folks.. i guess its not an issue if i can jump back to 404, but ill read the thread.
Cheers

Go JB, you won't regret it.

No issues here. None. And battery life is better than on 4.04.

I have been running the stock version of XWLS8 (Spain) for the last week and have not noticed any lag issues, upgraded from the leaked version that I had been running since mid December using Odin. Kies would not work with the leaked version, but with the original stock version Kies now recognizes it without any problems.

No problems here.. just massive battery drain..

Flash Dorimanx or Siyah Kernel & do some settings then it's all good

Freeze Apps with Titanium BackUp

My issues have mainly been freezes due to UV, so figuring out my voltage settings now.
I'm back on Biftor though as Neatrom has the unexpected shutdown boot loop

No, its full of bugs.

Try militant rom, it really is bugless stock jb for s2

s3 reboot by itself

Why does my sgs3 reboot by itself? Please anyone tell me what is the cause of this. My phone is rooted with siyah kernel.
Have the same issue here. Rom is WannamLite 2.0 (Based on XXBLG8). Kernel is Siyah 1.5 Beta 6.
Sometimes all of a sudden the bottom of the phone heats up a lot and the phone reboots.

Which ROM are you using..It seems a case of bad flash..reflash the ROM after a full wipe..
Please do a search before you post...this question has been answered again and again...

Heating up problems may be caused by some rogue app...see which app is always running in the background and eating a lot of memory...uninstall that app..also if you can try some other kernel..
I had the same problem, it was the kernel so try a different one
I haave not have a single reboot nor on Stock, CM10, AOSP or SuperNexus. Stock and Syah kernels
I have a stock rom,i only have custom kernel,so whats the problem revooting by itself?. Sorry for being lazy on reading other forums, its kinda diffirent if youre the one asking the question.

I'm having the same thing happen. Try to go back to the stock rr kernel. I think dorimanx is having freezing problems.

I'm assuming that you guys flashed another ROM, or reflash and the issue persist.
Am I right?

Are you underclocking or undervolting at all? CPU/GPU
Any tweak scripts flashed? Though we all want to benefit from extended battery savings our phones are all different and this can sometimes lead to freezes or reboots...
Sometimes it can be related to overheating as well, so this is when under clocking (using a lower frequency) may be useful. Are you usually using your phone when it reboots or it reboots when it is sitting there?
If you arent underclocked or undervolted at the moment you can try using a different scheduler and governor through an app like Voltage Control or SetCPU. Otherwise as some individuals mentioned you can try using a different kernel. I think DorimanX at the moment is too new that there are some bugs that are being tweaked out. Since you're on JB (I assume the LSJ leak) you can either try stock PhilZ kernel, Jeboo 1.1 or Siyah Beta 4

[Q] Black Logo Screen problem

Unfortunately I cannot ask questions in specific thread, so I would like to do it now.
I have a problem after flashing LS8, specifically Wanamlite v.14. For some time phone works perfectly, until it suddenly switches off. I am able to power it up, but it freezes on the first screen with logo and model number. I am however able to access recovery.
And so I did - accessed recovery, flashed rom again, unfortunately, the only thing that worked was to do a full factory reset.
It worked... for a while. Then the story repeated itself. This time I did exactly the same, but started digging: some reported, that it might be a problem with kernel, which is Philz newest 4.00 b22. So I changed kernel: Dorimanx 7.44 - got serious overheating problems and the same probem. Jeboo 1.2 - the same. I then discovered, that eg. Jeboo has something from Philz kernel, so I flashed earlier version of Jeboo 1.1f. I am currently at this stage. Oh, btw. my chip is insane, if it changes anything.
Can anyone please tell me if you had similar problems, maybe not only users of Wanamlite, but other roms (which would confirm problems with kernel)? Can anyone tell me if there is any solution? Or at least does anyone knows what is happening? It is getting really weird, as I have been reading post of people reporting identical problem as I have, but devs seem to avoid the topic... Or maybe you guys are working hard to find out what is the problem - in that case a simple one line statement "we are aware. working on it" will suffice. Please, I am starting to be desperate here...
Regards.
Try Siyah kernel v6 beta4. I am also using WannamLite and have no issues at all.

Thank you for the tip. I found the kernel elsewhere, however is there a thread about siyah v6 somewhere here, on xda-developers?
I will test it against problems I encountered and report for future readers.
The question still stays: what happened to me and all these other people?

Yes it is, try to always download from xda.
You've experienced conflict between ROM & Kernel. Always check the custom ROM thread and read it upside down so you can spot potential issues regarding this kinda conflict.

I did it, however, which is weird, only some of people reported it and dev, who in this case is Wanam, did not reply.
And I know, that it seems to be a conflict between rom and kernel, but how is it possible that not everyone had this issue while flashing Wanamlite with factory reset and kernel included in the rom? Nevertheless, I am sticking with Siyah for the while and see what happens.

I have the same issue, it seems with LS8 whenever I reboot, there's a 50-50 chance my phone will "die" and I'll need a complete wipe and rom install
If I do a hot boot within Titanium Backup, guaranteed my phone will brake.
This happens with Siyah, PhilZ and Jeboo, it's not really a kernel issue, now a Wanamlite's issue since people on NEATROM also said they suffered the same issue, there's some problem with the firmware, seems that whenever the phone doesn't shut down properly, it won't start again.
Wish I could provide a log, but since phone totally dies, I don't know how to retrieve it.
@op: you got a siyah q&a thread sticked in the Q&A section.
Why don't you guys flash stock while you sort this out?
Custom ROMs will be updated soon now that ls8 is out. Therefore kernels will be updated as well.

I'm having the same problem too. I have been using the Stock LS8 and Philz Kernel (4.00 b22-b30). I stopped using Siyah b4 in the previous JB Stock Leak because I had isues with the camera freezing.
Any suggestion?

Well I am still on siyah v6.b4. So far so good. But I am not too happy with battery life... You might try jeboo 1-1f, as some reported it doesn't cause any problems. I had jeboo 1-2 for a while but out generated the same bootloop...

[Q] Kernel troubles...

First off, hello guys and girls, a long time forum crawler but i've only just bit the bullet and registered
Recently picked myself up an SIII (i9300) rooted up and decided to go with Omega, but i've found that whenever i flash a kernel, all will go ahead as normal, flashes fine and i reboot, to be left with a black screen and some varying vibration patterns depending on the kernel flashed... I've tried Perseus (the main one i'd like to see working) aswell as siyah, but neither chose to boot.
Both specified to work on samsung based roms, and i'm not on 4.2.2 (only 4.2.1) so that isn't the problem... So here i am; Where am i going wrong?
Thank you ahead of time
are you sure you've got a i9300?

if you look on the perseus thread it states it does not work on 4.2.2 samsung roms. There arent any 4.2.2 sammy roms so im pretty sure its meant to say 4.2.1 and the OP mistyped.

yeah, missed that. most kernels don't support 4.2

Screen artifacts/Graphical glitch

Greetings everyone,
Recently my girlfriends S3 started having these Screen artifacts/Graphical glitch and I have no idea what is causing it. I am hoping that someone would be willing to help me out on this, as I have yet to experience anything like this personally. She is rooted and running a custom Rom and kernel.
It seems to start after opening random apps, usually games. Rebooting seems to get rid of the problem. Her phone is not overclocked/underclocked and never overheats.
Her system setup is:
Rom: XXUGMJ9 NeatROM lite v5.3
Kernel: boeffla-kernel 5.1
Video can be found here of the problem.
