Does anyone know how to flash a Htc evo 4g lte to Ting?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060085
I saw the above post and hopefully it can be applied. Can anyone offer me some help? I am making the jump to ting, but I really don't want to have to purchase new phones when I have 2 perfectly good Evo 4g LTEs already.
Thanks

From my Evo LTE, yup.
I've been with ting since the beginning. Sprint will not yet allow them to BYOD an LTE device. As far as I know you can't flash lte devices either. Drove me mad trying to do it. No ting user has flashed an evo lte and I'm fairly active on the forum.
I know where your coming from. Ting is awesome and will be more so once they can BYOD lte phones.
I'm on a white ting evo lte now. You can buy mine if you want and I'll go back to my beloved s2.

I'm sold on the Evo 3D but I don't know whether to move over from T-Mobile and go with it now (freedom from contracts), or to wait for the GSM version whenever it comes out?
Pricing aside (I know there are porting credits for new customers and other subsidies) I'd like to get some thoughts from people who use Sprint service with the device.
I'm not looking to start a flame war or anything, I just want to know what made you decide to go for it and whether a GSM version would have been more convincing?
If price has anything to do with you decision,I think Sprint is cheaper.

I would go with sprint! they have great customer service, unlimited data, pretty good coverage, and you dont know when the evo 3d will work on t-mobile either. i would say sprint would be a good choice!
its really all relative to where you need it to work at. If your in a good tmobile area its great. hspa+ is crazy fast.
I just switched back to sprint (3 days ago) because of cost and too many dead zones with tmobile. I work at Chase so we get a hefty discount. But tmobile worked ok for me as long as I was in the inner city.
Now, I WILL say this. GSM hs(d)pa throughput hammers sprints 3G. Its always on, data speeds are crazy fast. The phone handles any network changes on the fly. Sprints 3G has been pretty bad lately. I averaged with poor service on tmobile (keep in mind I am in a hs(d)pa market), at least 2 megs down and with good service upwards of 7-8mbps. With sprint 3G im lucky if i get 500kbps.
Now to match apples with apples, Sprints 4G can be fast as hell too. with a good signal, i can get 8-11mbps. The problem is the building penetration of it due to the high frequency of wimax SUCKS. The other inherent problem is battery drain. Having the wimax radio on murders the battery. Where as tmobile phones the "4G" radios do comsume more power, but not to the effect of wimax handsets. A plus side to sprint is the data transfer isnt throttled when you hit 2gigs. You get full speed data no matter how much data you have used. (in most cases)
The other thing I dislike is if my phone loses the 4G signal, the wimax radio goes into a "sleep" state after so long, and you have to manually pull down the notification shade to tell it to scan for 4G networks again. Happens on all of the HTC Sprint 4G devices. I had the epic before (samsung) and 4G switching happened on the fly, sort of like tmobiles phones do.
I would go for it tho, if Sprint works in your area then to hell with it why wait?
Just be aware that Sprint is getting the Galaxy s2 within the next month or two...so Id defintely say wait a little bit to see both and see which one you like more.
feel free to add more guys
In my test with tmobile they got better 3g whenit works I do have more drop calls in tmobile and almost none on sprint, but if I would have to get tmobile I would definitely go with the sensation really nice phone evo 3d brother and the. Only thing is the it has less ram and no 3d which I could live with
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

i agree, I would prefer the sensation over the 3d because its slimmer and doesnt have the extra screen layer, so it looks like the images jump right off the screen. not downing the the 3D at all, but i would have preferred the sensation. Im never going to use the 3D stuff
Has T-Mobile announced they're getting the 3D?
I assumed the Sensation was to be their version of it.

Ah, I meant T-Mobile USA. There is a European GSM EVO 3D model coming possibly in September or soon after. Part of the reason I am interested in waiting is that I do enjoy my current T-Mobile USA plan--no contract. I switch phones every few months and it's been a really long while since there's been a phone that's kept me interested long enough to want to sign a contract.
Here's a link to the Rogers version of the GSM model (850/1900/2100 3G bands) and the UK Amazon version of the GSM model (900/AWS 1700/2100 UMTS bands; Sept 12 due date).
I really appreciate all of the thoughts you guys (and gals?).
I want to buy a new android phone that will run on 4g network as i plan to use the phone for more than 1 year. Also, does the phone have NFC as well?
Thanks,
Barry

HTC EVO 3D (Rogers)
Voici le nouveau HTC EVOMC 3D.
http://www.htc.com/us/products/evo3d-rogers
It appears HTC used to have the EVO 3D for rogers listed separately but the links in HTC's own search results don't work! Not sure why the pulled/moved their EVO 3D rogers page.
I'm not sure about the 4G as I can't seem to find HTC's official specs, but I'm pretty sure the phone won't have NFC. On the android blog sites I glanced through, didn't see any mention of NFC for the EVO 3D.
Although, I have read there will be some aftermarket companies providing NFC support as an add-on. NFC is a really thin piece of technology that can fit under the back battery cover, which is also how it is implemented on my NS4G. Although I haven't ever really used it yet and I'm in NYC, supposedly support will be coming soon from retailers, etc.
Yeah, they also seem to have taken down (or never put up) the Rogers EVO 3D discussion forum either.
The Rogers EVO 3D is not an LTE phone, according to the Rogers rep at the sore where I bought mine. Which is somewhat disappointing as I live in Ottawa where LTE is being tested. He stated that Rogers doesn't actually have any LTE phones available currently, and the first should show up in September.
As such, the EVO 3D is not a 4G phone on Rogers.
Despite that, when connected to the Rogers HSDPA+ network, the phone will show "4G" on the statusbar, confusing things.
Need to go to the Canada site to get the Rogers phone
http://www.htc.com/ca/products/evo3d-rogers
No LTE
They recently said that if other networks call HSDPA+ a 4G network, they will as well...

Yet another reason the CRTC needs to kick the collective asses of our telecom oligopoly. HSDPA+ and 4G are two very different things, and calling one the other just confuses things, especially when people read/hear about 4G in other countries (where they actually mean WiMax or LTE).
hi i hardly ever post on this site but have been with this site for a few years now.
i am upset with sprint for as it apears we wont get 4g where i live. i had the evo 4g when it came out and bought my wife the epic 4g and i bought the evo 3d when it came out and also the evo view 4g tablet when it came out and bought my son in law a htc 4g device before thanksgiving. i have been getting dropped calls like crazy on my evo 3d lately when i finally decided to call sprint. I talked with one of there reps about my problem and as she started to help me with my phone i jumped on the conversation about wimax in oklahoma. She knew about clearwire running out of funds and no more wimax towers being put up and sprint rolling out lte devices in 2012. and she briefly stated in so many words that these 4g devices are useless where i am at as far as 4g goes. However we do have a 4g tower close where i stay but it is not from sprint!!! I called them earlier this year about 4g signal on my evo 4g and they said it was a tower of some other company i was hitting on. if you go to sprint website and check there 4g coverage map you can se there is no 4g in oklahoma city. My complaint is i have wimax devices that will be and already is outdated wher i am at according to sprint. my wife cant get 4g on her epic neither does my tablet get 4g because it is not sprints wimax towers. The point is i bought these devices under the assumption of 4g data speeds and never recieved its services from sprint and under the contract of wimax devices i feel i have been cheated and so do many other 4g device owners who where promised wimax speeds to there high end devices. And as far as the extra 10 dollars a month i pay for each line is a bunch of bull. Sprint says its a premium data charge for unlimited data use as these high end devices process a lot of data. when you get a max of 1.5 mbps on a good day sometimes 2 on 3g you call that premium? The rep from sprint that i talked to today said she was sorry and gave me there headquarters email address and told me to email them and they most likey will reimburse me. But i might not except that offer and take it a little further with a lawyer on this one. this seems like a lawsuit on sprint from many other promised wimax device owners who bought these phones and where promised wimax network use. Are there others in cities who where promised as well?
Sprint marketed wimax as it's new 4G network like everyone would get it eventually. I don't think they actually promised anyone they'd get it but there was assumption everyone would. It's hardly worth having anyway because the band they put wimax on hardly penetrates a single wall.

You are right, and they did not promise us this, but with high expectations of using these phones for those speeds I and others never used the network capabilities. That these phones have.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Been a long time user of HTC devices going back to the Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2... Purchased the EVO and EVO 3D both on their original Sprint launch dates. Now with pre-orders taking place May 7th. I am trying to gauge whether to upgrade to the LTE or stay with the 3D or simply go with the LTE at Root. Obviously it is not too hard to make a choice, but if you decide to stay with a 3D will there be good Development support or is the Development support going to move onto the LTE?
Get it!

I'm solely moving to the new evo because of the camera and the software behind sense 4. I say go for it.
Now that there is ICS coming about, development is about to sky rocket. I say way your pros and cons with it. Honestly, phones are getting to a point where rooting to me doesn't matter anymore.

The biggest factor to me IMO is if your area will get LTE in the near future or not. For me, it looks like my area isn't slated for LTE until at least the end of 2013. And since my area has horrible 3g speeds (under 100kpbs 90% of the time), I won't be upgrading. I will actually be taking my account to verizon, even though I've been with sprint for over 10 years, verizon has working 3g and 4g in my area. I cannot wait over a year for 4g. If the 3g actually worked here, maybe it would be a different decision.
I'll most likely be moving to Verizon also. Dayton will probably get skipped on LTE like we did with Wimax, when Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland got it. I'm hardly getting 3g here anyway.

I believe cricket uses Sprint, so I doubt you can use a bad Sprint ESN on cricket, but I could be wrong.
However, I just bought a bad esn Evo 4G LTE on craigslist, was planning on using it as a wifi device.
Then I found this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838606
I currently had PagePlus [Verizon MVNO] and was on a HTC Rezound that I'd manually programmed [from another xda guide just like that except for the Rez] in November '12. So I figured, hey, why not give it a shot? time for an upgrade. It's a superior device in most respects, though I have found a few issues my Rez didn't have. [Headphone jack seems to give static while using wifi]
So anyway, long story short, it took me half a day to get the Stock rom back on [you should be able to find my post in the Q&A near the top. lol] so I could program it with CDMA Workshop, and QPST.
But the bottom line: My bad esn Evo 4G LTE phone is now happily running on PagePlus, which has some pretty good plans.
I just run on the pay as you go plan [10c min/5c text] because I only use my phone occasionally, but they have $30/month with 2000 Min, 3000 Text, 500 MB data. [You might only have 1X speeds, I'm not sure because I haven't tested my data as it charges $0.99/MB].
