[APPS] Alternative Touchwiz Apps - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I noticed a lack of a central thread dedicated to alternative Touchwiz apps. There are some lists available in various CM/AOSP threads, but I found most of those lists incomplete.
While these apps are namely for use on AOSP where the Touchwiz apps don't exist, many of them I use on Touchwiz as well, as numerous apps function better than Samsung's. Some are free, while others are not. I found the paid apps to be well worth the price though.
This list is currently just my own personal list, most of which are devoted to the SPen and popup functionality. If you have any recommendations for alternatives that you use, feel free to post them here (or send me a PM) and I'll add them to this post.
Handwriting Recognition
7notes with mazec for Android (paid)
SVoice

Handy Note Pro (paid)
Jotter (For Galaxy Note) (paid)
Floating Draw (free)
FloatNote (free)
Memo (free)
Papyrus (free)
Handrite Notes Notepad Pro (paid)
SPen Gestures
GMD SPen Control (paid)
Pop Up Video
Stick it! (paid)
Super Video (free)
Popcorn Player (free)
Pop Up Browser
PopUp Browser (free)
Floating Browser Flux! (free)
OverSkreen (paid) EDIT: Not compatible with Jelly Bean at this time
Drawing
Infinite Painter (Galaxy Note) (paid)
Sketchbook Mobile (paid)
Multi-Window
Onskreen Cornerstone - I'm including this only as a proof of concept. Onskreen Cornerstone has the capabilities for multiwindow, but would need to be baked into AOSP roms in order to support it. Legend speaks of a time when devs tried adding this to their roms, but found it too buggy to continue. Other tales tell of Google threatening the development community if they started including this feature. Now that Touchwiz has multiwindow capabilities, maybe Google will relax. Maybe someday devs will try again and succeed.
Misc Useful
SPen Board Switcher (free) Changes to any alternate keyboard - such as 7notes - when SPen is removed. Switches back when SPen is replaced. (Touchwiz Only)
Ultimate Rotation Control (trial/paid) Allows lock screen rotation with TouchWiz, as well as any app to fully rotate.
_____________________________________
Again, if you have any app recommendations for Touchwiz alternatives, let me know. I may have missed entire categories of Touchwiz apps simply because they're features I don't personally use.

There has to be a reason many devs reserve the second post, so I'm reserving the second post.

I wish. I've been keeping my eyes peeled, but nothing so far. The closest thing is the Onskreen Cornerstone framework that needs to be baked into AOSP roms. Rumor has it, the last time devs tried this, it was too buggy to pursue. I wish they would try again though. It looks incredibly promising.

That was the only reason I didn't unlock my Transformer Prime, the cornerstone roms weren't kept current due to bugs. I'm gonna be selling my Prime and was going to replace it with a Nexus 7 (possibly a newer version) but now I'm thinking a 7" Note for the multi tasking ability.

This is the best note app I have tried.

Nice find. I'll definitely add this to the original post.
I wonder if I should try listing apps in a best-to-worst order...

Thanks for the list, I was searching for an alternative of the snotes app.

I would also like to add in this one...
I thinks it's a paid app that I've known about for some time now.

[poll] What launcher are you using

Hello everybody,
Since the stock launcher can't hide app's, i have to look for another launcher.
I tried Laucher Pro, but that doesn't look like the stock launcher.
Next i tried Nova launcher, it was almost perfect, only the app and settings icon are next to each other, which is a bummer
There are others i didn't try yet.
So what launcher is everybody using.
And more important why that launcher, and not an other one?
I use ADW ex
None of the others seem to work right with tablets (unless I am missing one).

What is Stock launcher? I searched the market but can't find it!
It it possible to modify the stock launcher so that apps can be hidden?
I use Go Launcher on my Phone, amazing launcher, sadly the HD (tablet) version is nowhere near as good as the Phone version yet. It is in Beta version tho, and they are working fast on it, but for the time being is meh.
Tried almost all other Launchers that you posted there, and there was always something that I really hated from them, and most of them lagged badly when the Prime was in Eco Mode (Stock one does not lag at all, even with Live Wallpapers)
I found out that the one with best Performance in Eco Mode, and allowed to have better transition effects and such was ADW Launcher EX, Stock is still faster, and Im not 100% happy with the App drawer from ADW (Stock one rocks) but since I organized everything using the "HUBS philosophy" I rarely access the App drawer anymore
Some Widgets do not scroll correctly in ADW, if this happens to you, be sure to scroll using 2 fingers and not one (Not sure if it is a bug or feature). This does not happen with all scrollable widgets tho.

I love SPB Shell 3D and it works perfectly on both the TF101 and TF201.
Why I use it,
up to 16 home screens,
drag and drop to rearrange the home screens,
I like and use the specialized widgets ship with the launcher (wish they'd open up the API for those)
Carousel to move quickly from one home screen to a "far away" screen
It's not quite as customizable as ADW but I very much like the look and feel. The only real downside is the $15 price tag, and no free/trial version.

I've used sob mobile shell 3d on prime. I tested it out it is a really good launcher. I love the carousel and the customized widget pages they have that comes with the launcher. then add in the fact you can easily swap or move the different screens around is an added bonus. its a launcher like no other. I may eventually buy it down the road.
has it had any recent updates or does it get updated alot?

Like the ICS stock browser? Then you shall use "ICS Browser+"
If you like the original ICS stock browser is ICS Browser+ proberly the best browser out the there. Its look like and work like the original browser but adds many handy extra functions. Notice that you can make panel quick controllers with up to three rings and edit them all, as you like !
If you haved use Dolphin Browser you proberly used some plug-ins . I was only missing Dolphin Google Translate plug-in. but with ICS Browser + I instead use Web Translator Pro. Just mark text and touch "share". Then you share with Web Translator and immediately you have the site in a new language.
By PC Magazine selected as one of "The 10 Tastiest Apps for Ice Cream Sandwich" Based on the stock ICS browser, this browser adds many handy extra functions:
* Auto text reflow after pinch to zoom * Option to create extra quick controls (with easy to use quick controls editor. Add up to 3 rings, with extra controls like bookmark page, close other tabs, share etc etc) * Possibility to set the User Agent string * Fine tune quick controls behavior * Option to use volume keys for scrolling * Home button on action bar for tablets * Gesture support. More and more functions will be added along the way.

ROMs with S-Pen Functions and Samsung Apps

I'm not asking which people like best, because I know that is highly subjective. What I want to know are which ROMs have all original S-Pen functions intact and if they have Samsung's apps too, that a bonus. I want a ROM that has more settings in the notification pull down and more theme options, but I don't want to give up the S-Pen functions that were one of the big reasons I got a Note. Any ideas?
did you know you can get gmt spen control from the market and use it with any rom? Then get an app like papyrus or memo, and you can set up custom gestures, or the original gestures if you like.
It works extremely well, and let's you try out cm based roms while still getting to use your s pen

You, my friend, are my hero for the day! I absolutely did not know that. I've only had the phone like 2 days and have only been back on Android like 2 days. I was on Windows Phone for the past two years after about as long on Android and really got out of touch with Android during that time.
Also, what is the name of the app that gives you S-Pen control? I got a lot of results but quite a few of them seemed fairly shady.

S-pen on 4.2.2 AOSP?

I'm specially interested in the hover icon for the s-pen.
Is it a function that only touchwiz-based roms can get? I know that we lose all the support for the s-pen on AOSP, but I was wondering if the hovering is more a hardware thing - thus, possible.
Thanks!
I can't comment on 4.2.2, but I'm running cyanogenmod 4.3 and I can turn on hover. Settings - Language & input - Show icon when using stylus.
first I was using the CM S-Pen Root from Playstore (free). Very limited features ( detection, keyboard change)
but I have moved to this one: Cost is $5.25 but worth it for all the features of S-Pen on AOSP Roms.

Why would anyone want a stock JB ROM if it removes features like Multi Window, etc??

I understand why people want to flash stock JB custom ROMS (me always having been one of them, for 3 phones now), but in the case of the GS4, why?
You would lose actual useful Samsung features like Multi Window (works ridiculously well), WatchON (to utilize the IR blaster), the mostly better Samsung camera app, S Health (some ppl use), and even some of the smart features like gestures, S Voice, and the eye tracking stuff.
Don't most people want at least some of these? I would never want to lose Multi Window (first time having this, especially when using Samsung Multi Window Manager to use any apps with it), WatchON, and the camera app, even having been a stock custom ROM freak for a long time with other phones.
This is the first time I feel that rooting, deodexing, debloating, and a few theme mods are enough to satisfy me (for now) mainly because I want these factory apps and features.
Anyone else?

I have absolutely no use for any of the features you listed. Camera quality on AOSP will get there eventually.......and I don't use multi window.....and the other stuff is just bloat....
Just my opinion....
Your going to have people on both sides of this. Some want an AOSP like experience and consider all of these Samsung apps to be "Bloat".
IMO, I'd like to see a AOSP look and feel ROM, with some of the Samsung features in it. I'm sure someone will make something like that.

I agree, but honestly with some theming, Nova launcher, and a few app replacements, the phone on Touchwiz isn't much different whatsoever. I mean what, just the settings menus and some of the system apps? No big deal.
I don't get why anyone wouldn't want true multitasking like Multi Window provides (among the other things)...
Better lockscreen
Theme engine
More internal memory
More customization (although xposed is making that less of a difference)

Unfortunately no matter how small the ROM is you won't get any of that space back.
Then if there was a de-Touchwized ROM, I'd take that lol. I want to keep these things but yes I too hate the small differences in Touchwiz that aren't easily changeable without custom ROMing.
Also, I actually like the Touchwiz lock screen a lot, that sunlight effect is sick and something to show off the screen with, and you can still use the widgets just like in AOSP.

I came to this phone from the galaxy nexus. I wanted something different from stock Android. Don't get me wrong I love stock Android just wanted something different. I know this is going to sound like a dumb question. I *did* search around and read a bit before asking, but really didn't get any answers...
Themer intrigues me. But..... what is it?
On the Themer web site if you go to "About", you don't get an explanation of what Themer is, but you get the bios of the team.
Is Themer a launcher? I have a Note 4 that I just got a month or so ago and was wondering what I might LOSE by installing Themer. Does all my TouchWiz stuff still work? (s-pen stuff, air gestures, things like that). Really basic question I know, but I expected to find this info prominently explained on the web site and.... if it's there, I apologize if I missed it. (I'll play the AGE card at that point )

Hi CJ, don't worry it's not a dumb question...
Themer is a launcher, in the same way TouchWiz is a launcher. Therefore, using Themer restricts access to S-Pen, Air Gestures etc.
However, Touchwiz isn't nearly as powerful for customization when compared to Themer. Every launcher comes with its pros and cons. So if you're looking for a launcher to easily customize your phone, use Themer, especially if you're not a heavy user of Samsung's features.

Hi Marco, I don't have a Note 4 but Themer does not restrict any of the proprietary Touchwiz functionality such as the S pen on my Note 3 and Note 2. It only restricts you from using TW homescreen widgets.
