I have already read the other solutions for recovering my Galaxy S2. Unfortunately, I don't have a backup of my EFS folder.
I am wondering if there's a IMEI writer program that would allow me to manually create a new IMEI data file, using my phone IMEI/serial # under the battery, or whatever the phone reads for the IMEI/Serial # to restore my phone IMEI/serial.
Currently, the phone keep on asking me to set up software update even though I have already set it up five times already and the software update seems to have problem updating saying: "Failed to update firmware due to network or server problem. Try software update via Settings>Software update> Update, or try using PC Kies later. I think it is probably due to the default IMEI:004999010640000/Serial:00000000000 assigned that the update server don't recognize or ignore.

Everything is fine. I can make call/text. The only problems I have are default IMEI/Serial# and software update error.
You are not screwed as you think, are you sure EFS folder is nowhere to be found?

Hi,
I have a completely stock Galaxy s2 on O2-UK and it will not receive texts. I can send them but cannot receive! I do have a case but ive taken it off to see i thats the problem but it is not. Anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks in advance
I would contact o2
Check your Message Centre number under Messaging > Settings. Find out what it should be for your carrier. If it the number is blank in your phone, or doesn't match what it should be for your carrier, fix it.

Change your SMS centre settings.
+447802000332 for Pay Monthly, or
+447802092035 for Pay & Go
Remember to check that the message centre number starts with +44 and not 0044
International settings
Make sure that International barring has been removed from your phone, then just follow these steps:.
Check the message centre settings (making sure the number starts with +44 and not 0044)
+447802000332 for Pay Monthly or
+447802092035 for Pay & Go
The correct pay monthly O2 number was there, i got it to work by going into settings>Wireless and network>Mobile network settings and changing my network operator then putting it to O2 again and my messages came through. But it stopped working AGAIN! And i had to repeat that. Is this a hardware problem?

Hmm Im sure its not a hardware problem. Try going in to the settings & changing the network selection from automatic to manual, try logging on to another network which should say no access eg Orange then log back onto o2. Your texts should start coming soon

So it matches what is on the label under your battery? It can sometimes get changed to a "generic" IMEI.

Means you are getting SOME signal, but it's crappy. What does it say for everything else on that screen? Network? Mobile Network Type? etc?
Also, you said you tried "a few" modems. Which ones? There are dozens. Some work better for some locations/countries than others. Where are you located? Can make a difference.

Yes,it matches.
Now it is -103 till -111 dBM and from 2 asu till 8 or 9 asu..
Network: Unknown
Type: Unknown:0
And i dont know how to translate that but it shows : GPRS:1
And it shows that the state of service is : Not working
I used those who were working before. The leaked ICS modems.. That worked for me. Other i dont remember.
And Im from Latvia.

I'd flash back to a stock Gingerbread firmware. As stated, any ICS based ROM (as of right now, anyways) is a leak, or built off of a leak.

Sorry with home network i meant my home carrier (like T- Mobile e.g.)
I tried that already with different modems which have been in use already. -> same Problem- phone finds differnent carrier networks but not my network.
hardwareproblem i can not imagine because it finds other networks. SIM card also works correct (i finds my network in other phones).
One thing that could be problem theoretically: I cut my Sim Card myself from mini sim to micro sim but till now i had no problems what makes me think it cant be my problem...
Ideas?

If you are using a 64kb SIM it tends to happen. Probably its aged and if you did cut it you might have as well damaged the SIM's core.
I'd suggest to get a replacement SIM from your carrier, preferably a Micro SIM and see if that helps.

Hello there.
I bought Samsung Galaxy SIII about two months ago, it was working great untill I updated it OTA. I had Android 4.04 before the update, when I updated it, it was still 4.04 but since then, my WiFi's not working. I mean, it works when I'm in the room where the router is, but when I leave the room, I don't have internet access. I updated to Jelly Bean OTA, still nothing. The problem is still there. Any suggestions? If you need more info about my phone, feel free to ask. Thank you in advance.
Anyone? Please help, without Wi-Fi my phone is useless for me.

I doubt it has got something to do with the update. (I'm not saying it's impossible - It's just highly unlikely)
Maybe you typed the password wrong, or the security type is wrong.
Try deleting the network, from your device, and then checking out the different settings, like WEP, WPA, WPA2-Personal (PSK) and then checking if your password was/is incorrect

My password is not incorrect because I can connect when I'm in the room where the router is, but as soon as I leave, like 10 metres away from router, it disconnects and I get that " Obtaining IP address" error.

Sounds a bit virus like, or to be more accurate, it may be that you have been conned into signing up for some expensive text service. You might want to check with your provider that you aren't being charged a fortune for the texts. If you take prompt action you should be able to get the provider to refund any charges.
I have found something similar - SMS to 00-919560345888
I was looking over my phone bill and I noticed a SMS sent to 00-919560345888 on the 9th of November - the number seems to be in India (provider probably Airtel, somewhere in the Delhi area).
Doing a quick search here was showing this thread most recently.
During that day the only software that I remember installing on that specific S3 was Criskelo v19 (and there is a post of mine from that day to confirm that) - did anybody else see something like this?
EDIT:
IMHO the original poster should change the title to include the words SMS and 00-919560345888 to make this thread more obvious for other people that have seen similar problems!
i think when you install the india rom it sends registration sms to samsung india or network provider..as here when we purchase samsung phone we get free data for first few months..so each time fresh installation of rom it sends sms..

I really doubt that - I consider this story a major problem and I think we should further investigate the owners of that number and how that stuff got injected into the ROM - it most certainly does not look like a company number but instead 100% like a number a hacker would use to signal back the existence of a backdoor - which most likely he could perfectly use at any time with a SMS back to your phone where he most likely has root access!
I'm sure if you ask politely someone will track the number down and nuke the bastterd

While I appreciate your generic advice you are probably not understanding what was happening - the trojan is inside a custom (auto-root) ROM, and as such could in theory do anything while the ROM was first booted - the program could not only send SMS in an "invisible" way, it could also leave a pretty much invisible hook/backdoor, and if the program wanted it could also uninstall "LBE security master" or whatever other similar program - and for the record AVAST was already installed - but as expected the program could see nothing unusual since the problem was inside the root-mode ROM!
