Unroot P769? - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew a method to unroot the phone. You see, I rooted it thinking I would probably use it for a while. However.....turns out it has a hardware defect. While discharging, the phone will randomly shut off during long periods of inactivity.
So I need to turn it in to LG for warranty repair. But I've already factory reset the phone and SuperSU is still there. I've tried using the built-in removal for SuperSU and it's still there. I've tried using Root & Restore, it cannot find the device, so it's still there.
Anyone know a method to remove it before I turn it in? Or would it be ok to turn it in with SuperSU installed/disabled?

I would send as is. It will be reflashed anyway. Rooting doesn't affect hardware.

Did you use this method to root? Because you you should be able to unroot it as well.

Thanks, you're probably right. I just didn't want them to flat out deny it based upon SuperSU being there.

Tried, no luck. Though it probably doesn't help that I had some odd problems while rooting.....yet it still worked. I forget what exactly happened though.

1) Backup all apps and data in LG PC Suite.
2) Format internal memory from CWM. Hard Reset the Phone and Flash any latest official KDZ.
And you are back to fresh factory stock.
3) Restore apps and data with LG PC Suite if you wish.

When you flash unrooted KDZ, it wipes out recovery (cwm) with no trace. At least this happens on our P765 , P760.

You need a computer. Either you didn't install recovery right. Or you're too impatient. Sometimes it hangs for a minute or so.

use terminal emulator and reflash your recovery with flash_image. you got a bad flash or a bad download of the recovery it sounds like.
there is a slim chance you aren't rooted correctly too, in which case it won't let you flash the recovery until you get permanent root. hopefully this isn't the case.
Pretty dumb question what's flash image n just incase how do I check. For a permanent root?

My advice is not to do ANYTHING until you are at a computer and have at least a half an hour available. This sounds like your first time flashing a ROM, take some time to look up key terms and such, your patience will reward you greatly. It is difficult to flash without a computer. Go to a friends house, a library, something and do it from there. To check if you have root, download the app root checker from the market. Then, after confirming root status, work from there and flash a new recovery by pushing it through ADB. Then, place the ROM on the sd card and flash it through your recovery, then Google Apps. If you follow everything I say, and it still doesn't work, come back to this thread or send me a PM and we will go from there. Look into guides before posting, not trying to be mean, but they are there for a reason.

Remove root. Help need please

Hi,
I am rooted on my S3 and all is good. However, my Father also has an S3 and last week he was talked into rooting it by his Grandson. All went well but long story short he was not happy with having a rooted phone so has decided to remove root. He has now done so by following various guides. He used Triangle away which he says went successfully and has used Odin to put the latest stock firmware on the phone which again he says went successfully. I was not there when he did all this but phone seems all good.
Except one thing. He has tried to install a couple of apps he had before rooting. Barclays bank app and Sky Go app. After installation these apps are saying they will not work on a rooted phone, but it's not rooted any more. I have booted into recovery using Volume down, power and home buttons and it says custom firmware / rom, I can't remember exact wording, but it says no. Also in the phone menu where a rooted phone says modified in device status it says normal or whatever it should say. Again can't remember exactly but all looks like no root present.
Anyone got any ideas on this? As I am rooted on my S3 and never un-rooted it yet, I do not know if he should have done something else. Will he have to root again to run triangle away or anything else. Or can this be fixed as the phone is at present?
Thanks for any help guys.
Cheers, Rich

One basic question..are you still able to go into recovery..vol up+power+home..if yes you are still rooted...you need to find your stock firmware and flash it via odin
check if it was a stock firmware your father flashed orcustom ROM o.follow this guide to do it again

Just tried that and the S3 will not go into recovery via volume up, power and home. Tried several times and it just powers up as normal. He has just tried his banking app and it's telling him the phone is rooted. I'm stumped on what to do.

Sounds like maybe triangle away didnt properly remove the count, was the firmware he downloaded the official one for his phone? Was it previously branded or anything like that?

Hi,
He has superSu on the phone. Presumably it has downloaded from the play store when restoring the phone. However, he tried to uninstall it which just removed the updates. Couldn't go any further. It is now asking for updates which he has done. But when he tries to launch Super SU it says no apps configured and won't go any further. I think the fact that super su is on the phone, the apps are thinking it is rooted. I am doing this all over the phone so can't see what's happening.
I'm wondering if the way to go now would be another factory reset and when restoring everything, try not to let play store instal super su. Would this be the way to go, or can we get super su off the phone without a reset?
Cheers, Rich
Try uninstalling super su with titanium backup. Then factory reset. Are you sure you have flashed a stock ROM and not a rooted one. This doesnt sound right.

Hi,
Trying to do these things with him over the phone ain't easy. I may just go and get the phone and do it myself.
He does have supersu on the phone and it is working, well it's installed anyway but obviously does not do the root things as the phone is un-rooted. There is an option in supersu settings to remove root but will this work as the phone is not rooted? Question is how on earth do I remove supersu. Do i need to re-root and remove it that way?

You will need to downgrade with lgnpst to root. It is in topic at top of page on irc.

Yeah you will my bad also I don't know what i was thinking lol but I ran into that same problem and I restored back to like the day I got it and then rooted it and it worked just fine lol Some time's its just like that
Hop into the IRC to get the link to LGNPST so that you can downgrade. I think theres links in the other threads like the conversion, to get the link to the stock firmware. LGNPST is not hard to use, just make sure you have all the correct drivers installed and its quick and painless
I tried to rooting. But phone did not reboot, but it loses cell net.
I reboot it manually and phone now turns on screen for a half second and turns off. And I can not use it (unlock screen is not working).
I can run it in download mode. So what can I do? Download stock ROM and flash it? BTW, what app I need to flash stock ROM?

Power+vol down does not reset (I tried all combination: VolUp+Power, VolDown+Power, VolDown+VolUp+Power, only last one works).
Updated: Thanks! Power+vol down almost a minute holdin resets data. Now phone is working normal.
Question: I also tried to root on E97011c and it got stuck after the restore part and nothing happened. Does this mean nothing was put on my phone? Is it possible it could become messed up now?
I don't remember accepting any ota but I'm rooted and unlocked and I am on software e90711c , I don't know if a ROM changed it or what, but I followed the guide and used the free gee app on play store to unlock boot loader. Not sure if this helps in anyway, but like I said I managed to do it and don't recall accepting any ota.

a factory reset will probably not work if you made some root changes & etc.
If you have artas182x cwm operating, just install my cwm backup

extract the zip into your micro sdcard.
Don't worry the MetroPCS version (LGMS769) works fine on the T-Mobile version (LGP769)
Plus I tweaked the build.prop so move 2 sd works for some downloaded apps.

Phone got rooted for no reasone

Hello,
My cousine has this phone. So he was using his phone doing his every day routine with facbook and whatsapp then a message appeared saying: supersu granted access to blablabl, and the phone restarted. He turned it on again this message appeared and the phone restarted. I told him hard reset the phone, he did that and now the phone is working, but phone tells that the system is modified so there is no update available.
The funny thing is that my cousine dont know what is root end etc...
Is it possible that a virus from pc can do such a thing? Root the phone and deploy a script which got run after each start?
How can we remove the root? Because because of root his warranty is void now

After he did a factory reset I told him to check for supersu or superuser app on his phone, then he told me the app called superuser was installed on his phone when he bought it.
He bought it from provider T-mobile. I guess someone bought his phone before him, rooted it, and then later this someone asked for a full refund and later this phone was sold to my cousine as a brand new one.

If you want to to unroot the phone, you can do this with TriangleAway.
Download and install the app. Just follow the instructions. After you have reset the counter to 0 and the status to normal, you should flash the original firmware again.
After you have followed all this steps, it shouldn't appear as custom anymore and your cousin should be able to get updates again. And his warranty will be restored.

Nope. Triangleaway does not unroot the phone. It only resets the counter. And it does not change it to normal for status. The phone checks for root everytime it boots, if it is rooted. It will be custom.

Yes, but after installing the original firmware again, the phone will be unrooted. In included this step too in my description.
But you're right, you don't have to reset the status with TriangleAway, I was confusing something.
What you can do with TriangleAway is reset the status to normal temporarily. At least I think, I was able to do that.

As far as I know, the flash counter only increases when you flash a custom firmware/recovery/kernel.
But when you flash a stock firmware through Odin, the flash counter shouldn't increase.
Thank for all of your respons. I told my cousine what he can do with root and everithing about custom roms, so now he is running a cm rom
