So was just sitting at my kitchen table playing a good ole hand of cards and decide to take my phone out of my pocket and :0, Kernel crash!
Asked me if I wanted to reboot either to recovery, download, or FASTBOOT. Rebooted fast boot and everything all good.
Scared the hell out of me, just wondering what would cause this??
I'm running stock 4.0.4 rooted with an unlocked boot loader via Free Gee
Sent from the VERY underestimated LG Optimus G
I'm not sure what caused it, but when I first got the phone it happened to me several times a day right after I rooted/unlocked it. Not sure what I did to fix it, but it gradually happened to me less and less, to where I now can't remember the last time it did. At least two weeks, I'd say, since my last kernel crash. Try using Sk8erwitskil's kernel, and maybe a different ROM. I know it still did it to me fairly frequently after I flashed the Sk8er kernel, and The Base .7.3 ROM, but like I said, it tapered off.
Happened to me once when I UV'd too much. It's possible that your phone can't handle the -100 UV in sk8's kernel.

Yeah I'm wondering if its because I'm still using the stock ROM with an unlocked boot loader but I haven't experienced the issue yet (knock on wood). I want to try a new custom ROM for this phone but the development is a little dry right now and the Korean JB Port is just not quite a daily driver yet for me

Like I said, it happened to me every few hours right after I rooted and unlocked. That was with the stock ROM and kernel. I might have had a issue with my unlock or maybe some kind of odd software conflict, but it hasn't happened again in quite a while.
I had a random kernel crash while using the new Canadian JB Rom. First one, actually.

The response on the touch screen for my atrix is all screwed up, I was wondering if anyone else had these issues.
I first got the phone in april and it worked flawlessly, for the last week the touch screen response has been really weird. sometimes it doesn't recognize input at all, other times it thinks i'm touching somewhere else, it often randomly selects a point on the screen completely on its own.
i'm unlocked, have a custom recovery. i started getting the issues on alien3, i flashed a new custom recovery and alien4 and i still have the problems.
i'm worried its hardware at this point, and i don't know what options i have for warranty since i got it on ebay. am i screwed?
First try again flashing everything from the start.
1. Flash the newest recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
2. Flash this radio for GingerBread ROMS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009
3. FULL WIPE - Dalvik, Cache and data. (Also internal&external SD if you want to)
4. Flash any FULL WIPE ROM you want, like Alien #4.
5. If still didn't resolve the problem and you want to try more stuff, try flashing other kernel ?
Like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156040
You can try also flashing full SBF, read more about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
Try Touchscreen Booster from the Market.
Went through the same pain and read everything on XDA until I found a thread about the app.
Was driving me nuts but have had a stable screen for 3 weeks now.
I am using Super Optimized setting.

If you problem doesn't get solved by clean flashing a new ROM, then it's a hardware issues -> as in "you need to replace digitizer".

+1 this works.

Im having the same issues and went about flashing the whole phone to no avail. I will for sure try touchscreen booster and post my results. If that doesnt help, is it the digitizer that needs replacing or the lcd? Digitizers are a lot cheaper on eBay lol
The only app I found says its for the galaxy. Installed it anyways, selected "super optimized settings" and so far so good. Thanks so much Andy_Thatcher!!

this actually seems to be helping a lot. thank you. i will try a new kernel in the future but this is working great right now.
Apologies, did mean the Galaxy app.

I have these issues to. They appeared randomly and there are random periods where it goes away, then comes back, sometimes worse than others. The SGS Touchscreen Booster app definitely helps, but it doesn't make it go away for me.
The only thing I haven't tried listed in this thread yet is flashing a new Kernel.
I've considered buying a new digitizer and replacing it myself, but the fact that the occurs so randomly and can even sometimes stop after rotating the screen, I'm very hesitant to do so.
i have tried this, but the problem still persist. I tried Optimized & Super Optimized settings, but its still the same
Even though the affects sound the same the cause maybe different. I know that sounds unlikely but I know that the Screen Booster worked for me.
There are a couple of other paths you may want to look at.
I was always convinced that the issue was not hardware based otherwise no matter what I did to the software it wouldn't have changed the fault but software changes did.
In my case before I implemented the app I would get a few hours respite by installing another base.
I have never used AT&T's OTA for Gingerbread so have been able to to SBF to what ever build I liked. For a while going to the initial Froyo build worked but as said only for a day at most. I had reached the point where I didn't care if it was Froyo or Gingerbread I just wanted a working phone.
No doubt I will get some flack for that comment however my phone has never hard bricked and I have been up and down the builds like a man possessed.
This is where I put the statutory do this at your own risk. It worked for me but I do not know the history of your device.
Then I came across this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131649 thread.
It worked ! Well for a couple of days.
At that point I started get get some respite to SBF'ing to Pudding 2.3.4 Pre-Root.
My trouble with all of this is that I do not understand the issue. I suspect it was a software glitch I created due to messing with builds. Screen Booster worked for me and if I were you I would spend a little more time before going down the other paths.
Again how I got it to work was as follows.
Install.
Set to Super Optimized, initially there was little change in the behaviour of the phone and I thought it was a bust.
Rebooted
Set to Super Optimized again and it started working.
If anyone should know why this screen behaviour happens please let me know. I am close to getting another Atrix so I can take Screen Booster off this one to try and figure it out.
why does the phone always crashes after a few weeks after use?
it goes complete death. anyone who knows what is causing this
Your not alone, my phone has crashed, almost weekly, more reliable than a clock. Ever since I unlocked the bootloader and attempted running custom kernels.
Try reflash stock firmware with flashtool.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
See that's the funny/weird thing, I have tried stock firmware and kernels, and I have tried relocking the bootloader. Honestly feels like the hardware is just worn out, it's like something shorts out or idk what exactly, but no software fix is going to do it, i've tried it all. I ended up getting an htc evo 3d instead.
do u overclock to max and use ur phone ??? m using it for a year never had this problem !!! and which ROM ru using and which kernel !!
I wanted to hear everyone's take on this. With all of the recent changes in AOKP and the incorporation of the Glitch kernel, is it still important to be on the GB bootloaders to use all of the Glitch features? I remember reading a little over a month ago about the various bugs, SODs, etc. that were being blamed on the absence of GB bootloaders. I know droidstyle runs fine without them, but do they do anything other than give the Glitch splash screen?
The official AOKP builds still have the stock Cyanogenmod kernel, so there's no point in using the Gingerbread bootloader unless you want to. Of course it'd be a good idea to flash it if you're using the Glitch kernel, but it's not a big deal to flash via Odin.

I flashed the gb bootloaders after odining back to stock a couple weeks back....i dont notice anything different other than the glitch splash screen instead of samsung logo.

I didn't notice any difference either but figured with all the experts recommending GB bootloader, what harm? Nothing negative to report. Just the Glitch animation on boot...
Since it's what the kernel is tested on afaik it also eliminates one thing to troubleshoot.

I always flash it because that is what they call for. That way if I have any problems, I know that I followed the instructions first. Sometimes I wonder if some of the issues people are complaining about are related to this. Probably not, but when most of the people detail their problems and how they did there Odin install, I don't think I recall any of them flashing the gingerbread bootloaders in their install.
I must also note that i have not had any problems ever with aokp.

I know I have seen several people indicate they too had a 3vo that would randomly reboot, even before rooting or adding any apps. I was in the same boat but after hassling with best buy/sprint I decided to suck it up and flash like crazy until October since I had another upgrade coming in the family plan I could steal. Since then I have noticed that I don't have reboot problems on any of the ICS roms . Not sure why but, just thought I would share for anyone else out there still dealing with reboots for no apparent reason. Thx for a glimmer of hope all you devs out there!

Never had a reboot or random issue stock and unrooted even when I rooted .. Only reboot I would of had was due to a rom being in alpha mode or a nightly that had issues..

Its just the devs perfecting their work, no one ever thinks about smaller but important jobs that have to be completed, I can have an ICS rom with full HWACC, camera AND 4g but if my phone reboots every 20 mins the experience dies.! So thank your local developer for a job well done and consider a donation or two if you have the funds to do so

truly doubt it's the rom, i have never had random reboot that weren't my fault, if it was ocing or just a unstable kernel, on most customs roms on stock kernel, never had a issue.... so i wouldn't chuck it up to ICS rom

A alpha can have issues and cause a reboot.. A beta is more stable. Always check the OP and the log they have to make sure what issues it may have.
Tho the OP was talkin about Stock phone ... I have no idea why you would get a reboot stock unless you messed with a funky app...
Also could be hardware related .. But I am leaning more to a app.

Than you are lucky, my first 3D started randomly rebooting even after reverting completely to stock. The replacement one I got would randomly reboot, it was stock with s-on straight from sprint. My current one would randomly reboot but not as bad as the other two, but it has been a lot better since i have been running joelz's ICS kang.
My first Evo 3D started rebooting about 30 minutes after I bought the phone and took it home. It would reboot at least once every 24 hours. I never rooted that phone, ran 100% factory stock. Later exchanged the phone for a new Evo and never had anymore issues.
When mine was stock, I had random reboots happen maybe once or so a day and it got worse as time went on. I flashed the RPM zip (and the radio I believe) from this thread and it has worked perfect ever since! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223979
Hi,
I'm having severe problems with my Amaze for weeks now. Thing is, I can't find a ROM that just works for me, nothing fancy or special, I just want to flash something and use my phone rather than flashing ROM every few hours.
First let me tell you about my phone:
It's T-Mobile Amaze 4G, S-ON and with 4EXT recovery.
My problems are that:
1) After each phone restart, most of the times phone doesn't find my SD card and as I store my apps on it, I have to restart again and again and hope for a time that it does find my SD card.
2) Whenever I tweak a ROM, even a bit, and I don't mean hack, just using the option the ROM itself provides like tweaks that Revolution does, phone crashes constantly and I have to reflash.
3) I have severe problems with ICS ROMs that seem stable and people are saying that they use regularly.
4) Even if I don't try to customize a ROM, phone gets into weird problems like crashes at startup or stuck at htc logo that leaves me into reflash.
I got this phone from my brother who was using 2.x ROMs on it but I wanted Nexus look so I upgraded to ICS with ph185.img and then been trying almost all ROMs but I'm yet to find something that I can safely put my sim card in it without worrying that it might miss a call or drain battery fast.
I first wanted Nexus pure android look but I now fell back to htc stock look and been trying all other ROMs, even though downloading ROMs is very expensive. Maybe I have to S-OFF and fall back to 2.3.4 ROMs.
Any help is highly appreciated as I'm so desperate and can't afford another phone for at least a year.
Thanks.

Tried that already.
Any other solution?
Right before I make this topic, I was happy with Revolution HD but then after like 10 days it got into a very unstable phase in which that it would automatically restart itself constantly even without me touching it.
