Is there a ROM, preferable senseless, that can be flashed via CWM that will work if the phone has S-On? I've tried about four and they all hang at loading screens.

I would recommend Neo's Tron ROM or Neo's Infection ROM, for both all you have to do is take the bood.img and copy it into platform-tools (assuming you have the adb package for android) and type fastboot flash boot boot.img once you cd over to platform-tools
All of Neo's roms are great, and they include Snuzzo's funky kernel
Yep. When you are s-on you need to flash the boot.img manually afterwards, so you need to pull it out of the rom and flash it in fastboot or make a ph98img file with it.
That's probably all you needed with the roms you chose already so if those are your first choices try again flashing the boot afterwards.
Once I learned rainabba's toolkit I realized I could flash the boot.img via the Flash a Kernel section.
One thing though. Every Jelly Bean ROM I tried had an error with the camera. It would only work with an SDcard placed in the phone. Doesn't happen on ICS with Sense.
I have found that out.
I can flash everything normally while in a recovery, but I used the Rezound Toolkit to push the boot.img.
I did come across where every JB ROM I used would let the camera work unless an SD card was in the phone.

Hey guys.
Yesterday I ran into a problem when I tried to flash RezRom ICS v1.0 over my current ROM (DSB's Bamf Cubed 1.0.2). ROM flashed fine...but the Kernel would give me an error
"Main Version is Older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot"
I have learned this is an issue with the Kernel DSB made being based off of a more recent base than the one in the ICS ROMs.
It was suggested I just manipulate the mainver # in the text file with the Kernel...but I am so glad I did not. Two problems for me
1. I don't want to lose the ability to RUU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454255 see text in red)
2. I have not desire to edit this file from now one when I must update the kernel.
So whatoptions do I have to downgrade my kernel? Can I HBoot this RUU http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338916? and then just us the root method again? Then flash RR ICS v1.0?
Thanks in advance
I think you have to use it now. Until a new ruu comes out I don't think you'll be able to use one

I need some help here also. everything I have tried to do will not work. I have tried reflashing kernels, recoveries, countless numbers of PH98IMG files. I have tried cut and pasting the text.info INTO THE PMG98IMG and nothing works. the ONLY way I can boot my phone is to flash the Clean ICS ROM, let it fail the fastboot, delete the PMG98IMG file from the SDCard and then flash the ICS Kernel from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454255 The phone will now boot up and I can get data and all but I can receive or make a phone call.. If I try to make a phone call as soon as I touch the key pad the phone locks up adn then reboots. I can do everything else including downloading apps I just can't make or receive phone calls.
HELP PLEASE
If you're having this problem reflash the kernel in fastboot. It works every time. Yes you need a PC, but it works. fastboot flash boot boot.img.

and when at a computer you can edit the android-info.txt so the flashable PB98IMG.zip will work for later use to switch back and forth from ICS to GB without a comp.

I just want to make sure I understand before I do this.
So you are saying that if I save a copy of the boot.img from the ICS rom I want to flash in the folder with the fastboot.exe file.
I can boot into the bootloader first -> go to fastboot -> flash the boot image via the command above
Then boot to recovery and flash the ROM
Then...I should be good?

Yeah. I always flash the kernel after the ROM but I think it doesn't matter. Just my way of being sure that the kernel I want is loaded. And I never get the mainver error.
Awesome...will try that now
Thanks
kernel before rom, rom then kernel, doesn't make a diff.
kernel must be flashed before rom will boot though.
For ROMs that have kernels in them, that after installing bring you to bootloader to install PB98IMG.zip, you can edit the said PB98IMG.zip in the ROM prior to installing so you can flash the kernel and not get the main ver. sig error.
it sucks, but it will be fixed come the next OTA update.

If you want to be 100% sure not to get the mainver problem, flash kernel using ADB fastboot.
PAID!!!
Thanks again.
Only reason I flashed kernel first was because with the mainver error...fastboot was not available. every-time bootloader started up...would read the PH98IMG and error with no option but to reboot. Which would have meant I would have had to pull the sdcard and remove that file before I could flash the kernel.
This way I just boot to bootloader...flash kernel...then from bootloader boot to recovery...flash room which will go back to bootloader and fail...but this time on reboot the kernel was already there.
I was hoping someone might be able to offer some suggestions here. I have a refurbed Hboot 1.5, unlocked using HTC's tool so it's S-On. I can install ROMs via the recovery and I use the FLASH GUI app to install kernel files. The problem I keep encountering is almost every ROM/KERNEL kills my WIFI. It just reads "error" and I can't resolve it. I have to then flash the one kernel I can keep getting to run, which is: 2.6.35.13-g84f8edd. (SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 5) from a TITAN ROM.
Yesterday I relocked the phone, install the RUU - updated to 2.17 - but as soon as I installed another rom, it killed the WIMAX again (FRESH) - so I had to use the same 2.6.35.13 kernel.
Is this common, is there a working list of kernels that will work ith S-0n Hboot1.5?
I don't have any trouble with anthrax kernels. I've also used quite a few of ziggy's kernels and not had any trouble.

I have a new 3D with HBoot 1.5. So far; It's been my experience that all AOSP kernels have no WiFi on this phone. This means that if I want CyanogenMod-7 I'll have to do without WiFi.
None of the Sense kernels/ROMs have this problem.
Try using adb rather than gui.
I've been on 1.5 hboot since August and have flashed many roms and kernels. Never had a problem with wifi. Also, the make sure you use kernels that match the rom type... Aosp, sense, update version, ics, etc... Doesn't matter what hboot you are if they don't match stuff won't work.

You have to take the boot.img outta the rom place that in the platform tools folder of ADB.
Then place the rom on your SD card.
1. make sure debug is on
2. adb reboot recovery
3. wipe everything
4.adb reboot bootloader
5. fastboot flash boot boot.img
6.go to recovery and flash the rom
7. Wifi will work no issues rom runs like a champ
If you are using adb and going through fastboot, there is no need to extract the the boot image. Just fastboot into recovery and flash the rom. The kernel built into the rom will be installed too.
with faast boot you can install roms and mods just like 1.4
I have been using flash image GUI and have not had a problem with mikrunny which uses anthrax kernels.

If he is Hboot 1.5 you have to use the fastboot flash boot boot.img other wise you will have a bad kernel flash no wifi crappy 3g among other issues....
Hboot 1.5 users can't just flash a rom with a kernel in it. That is for the folks on older hboots....
Sorry, have done this:
(open command prompt at adb tools folder)
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot twrp-shooter-2.0.0RC0.1.img (file is in my adb tools folder)
Wipes
Flash rom
Hundreds of times successfully for many many roms of all types... Kernels, and wifi, and etc... Have all been fine.
I've been on 1.5 hboot s-on the whole time. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about 1.5
Just use flash image GUI. No adb or computer needed.

I don't use TWRP 2.0 due to a few roms it has flashed dirty with issues and some apk files were missing that shouldn't of been along with the roms themes.
Been using CWM recovery.
I know what your saying about recovery. Makes things easy anyways wasn't hammering on you just making things simple
I know the myths about flashing on hboot 1.5
One thing I know you can't do is just wipe and flash a rom using CWM or TWRP 2.0 while in recovery on your phone cause the kernel won't take you have to use adb. Which is what your saying while in recovery. I was thinking you ment you could just flash in recovery without using ADB your method is right. Hope the OP is up to date with flashing lmao might be confused now.. ...

All you have to do is fastboot into recovery and flash the ROM from there. It will pull the kernel from the ROM. if you want a different kernel then put the kernel on the Sd card and flash it after the ROM is flashed.

Yea, but when I do that - I get the WIFI error on almost all kernels used. I then have to use Flash Image GUI to install the one working kernel I have and it resolves the wifi issue for me.
The problem is, no matter if I use Flash Image GUI app, adb shell, bootloader, or install from recovery, it installs the rom fine, but when the system loads, no wifi, tried 6 roms, anthrex kernels etc, all the same.
I really appreciate the recommended steps provided above, I'll try both - removing boot-img and flash boot via fastboot or boot twrp shooter 2 directly and see how it goes. THANKS AGAIN
I've been using the fastboot loading of TWRP 2.0 to flash my ROMs and have had no problems with the Sense ROMs, but the AOSP ROMs/Kernels never would give me WiFi. Give fast boot a try no issues for me.
My general method is flash the rom, boot, wifi busted, install titanium, restore flash image gui, flash kernel, reboot, bam...
If I'm in a rush I'll just flash via fastboot.
So far no kernel issues not sticking. Everything works.
Easy answer so this thread can end...
1 match kernel with rom... Asop ROM (cm, miui for instance) need asop kernel.... Sense rom (fresh for instance) needs sense kernel
2 flash rom and kernel with adb (need computeri)
3 flash rom with GUI (no computer needed)
Directions... Flash kernel of choice with GUI then flash rom...
Phone reboots but data broken
Reflssh kernel with GUI now everything works
Hi Everybody,
I unlock the bootloader of my HTC view, I also did install the recovery as
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414137
Then I jumped to install the custom rom (forgot to the S-off first), and I could not! and the existing rom is gone as well.
Now I am restarting into a black screen. I do not have a nandroid backup!
I saw a thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038638
that means I need to install a ruu! but the links are not working, if that is the case, can anybody please provide me with a working link?
Thanks,
I believe you can download a ROM, has to be same android version as the one you were on last, so GB or honeycomb. Copy the boot.IMG from the ROM into the same directory as your fast boot commands
Get into recovery flash ROM
Get into fast boot and
Open cmd on PC
Get to your adb directory
Enter
Fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
Or
Find a ROM that does not have a custom kernel
Or hope someone will upload your ruu
Flyer
If you unlocked your bootloader at htcdev.com you don't need to s-off your device! Just download any custom ROM that meet the requirements of your Flyer, enter into recovery by pressing power and volume down button, wipe everything, copy custom ROM you downloaded into the flashcard and flash it. That's it. Smooth flashing!!!

Yes, I unlocked it on htcdev.com, and I have two roms (ICS and GC) but none works, after flashing those in recovery, a black screen comes up right after htc logo and nothing happens! I deleted everything, all the cashes and data and flashed these roms, no good, stuck on the black screen. any suggestions? I am even looking for a way to at least go back to my HC!
Thanks
OK. In this case let's try to revert everything back. Make shure what ROM was installed in your device (GB or HC) 1. go to http://htcruu.com/?dir=Flyer_View. 2. Download proper RUU installer. 3. Make Gold Card (just in case if downloaded wrong region RUU). 4. Boot into bootloader and start flashing downloaded RUU.
I am telling you that you can not flash an ICS or CG's JB rom because the boot.img will not flash through recovery with HTC dev unlock. were you on HC or GB prior
Okay so i bought my rezound recently then I unlocked it Rooted it and tried installing a rom Im on S on with the unlocked bootloader
im using the amon ra recovery
i wipe then i install the rom and then i reboot the phone but it always gets stuck on the bootanimation
can someone give me the detailed steps to install this rom please

thank you
Sounds like you need to flash the kernel. When s-on you need to flash the kernel separately after flashing the ROM.
Some ROMs make the PH98IMG of the kernel for you and if so it will be on the root of your external card. If you boot into bootloader it should ask you if you want to take the update, say yes, that's the kernel. You should be able to boot after that.
If there's no PH98IMG left for you, pull the boot.img from the ROM and flash in fastboot.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
If it's not the kernel issue then post back.
Followed your link to the ROM. Looks like you can just download the kernel from the thread. From the install directions:
**Installation of boot.img**
-download boot.img
-copy to pc to your fastboot directory
-cd to the directory
-type these commands
-"fastboot flash boot boot.img"
That is for if you are s-on, which you are. I'm sure this will get you going.
Yes !! it worked thank you alot
just one more question do i have to do the same thing every time i install a new rom?
Yes. Since you are s-on you must flash the kernel that goes with the ROM after you flash the ROM.
If you s-off you won't have to but it makes it easier to brick the phone. I've also read where some people have lost the use of their usb ports trying to s-off. I'm s-on and it doesn't bother me to flash the kernel separately. The ROM I'm using puts it on the sd card and puts the phone in hboot so all I have to do is accept the update. Easy peasy.
Sorry what boot.img it should say, I knew I'd got it wrong
Ive just rooted my HOX+, do I need to flash a BOOT.img before flashing InsertCoin 3.8.2, it doesn't say anything about flashing a Boot.img, or am I ok to flash InsertCoin 3.8.2 straight onto the phone?
I want to install InsertCoin 3.8.2, and maybe try Viper later. Is there a boot.img I can flash for both these roms assuming I need to.
open the zip file then find the boot.img extract it to your desktop then download the fastboot / adb put the boot.img inside the folder, connect you phone via fastboot to your compuetr then flash the boot.img. Ithnks there is a good tutorial on the general section, just check it to understand more about flashing

boot.img has to be flashed fastboot, like recovery, with "fastboot flash boot <boot_img_name>.img" command. Or you can use hasoon2000's All-In-One kit to do so.
If you want a kernel which works for multiple sense roms, you should try EliteKernel OXP by nik3r or hXore Kernel by bedalus should also work (if i understood right). They should work for all Sense roms based on 1.17.401.1, i don't know whether they work on 1.17.401.3.
