[Q] What kernel should I be using - HTC One X+

Sorry what boot.img it should say, I knew I'd got it wrong
Ive just rooted my HOX+, do I need to flash a BOOT.img before flashing InsertCoin 3.8.2, it doesn't say anything about flashing a Boot.img, or am I ok to flash InsertCoin 3.8.2 straight onto the phone?
I want to install InsertCoin 3.8.2, and maybe try Viper later. Is there a boot.img I can flash for both these roms assuming I need to.

open the zip file then find the boot.img extract it to your desktop then download the fastboot / adb put the boot.img inside the folder, connect you phone via fastboot to your compuetr then flash the boot.img. Ithnks there is a good tutorial on the general section, just check it to understand more about flashing

boot.img has to be flashed fastboot, like recovery, with "fastboot flash boot <boot_img_name>.img" command. Or you can use hasoon2000's All-In-One kit to do so.
If you want a kernel which works for multiple sense roms, you should try EliteKernel OXP by nik3r or hXore Kernel by bedalus should also work (if i understood right). They should work for all Sense roms based on 1.17.401.1, i don't know whether they work on 1.17.401.3.

Make sure you are bootloader unlocked. (im assuming so. Load to your ROM and install flash gui form the market. Then download desired rom and place on sd card. Once you have done that, open the downloaded rom with flash gui and it will install the kernel, then go into twrp recovery and flash rom. if you dont have twrp 2.2+ recovery, search how to install it. you already have root so it should not be a problem
I assume you have gotten yourself stuck. Assuming it is a stock ROM and you have aosp currently, you could 1.flash back and use flash GUI, 2. flash back and use htc dumlock, or 3. you could unzip the ROM package you are trying to flash and copy the boot image to adb tools and with the phone in fastboot, flash it using the command fastboot flash boot boot.img

[Q] S-ON, can't flash stable get.cm zip 11-13-2012

I have a rooted, S-ON Evo and I figured out that I have to manually flash the boot.img in order to get the ROM to boot. That being said, I have been flashing nightlies starting from 11-01.
I cannot find deck's IRC builds so I have been going to get.cm to get the nightlies. Now, for some reason, I cannot get any other builds flashed. I usually just wipe caches and then flash the new nightly.
Is there a new kernel within the stable cm from 11-13? Do I need to flash the boot.img separate first?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
**UPDATED**
Just downloaded Flash Image GUI from Google Play and flashed the kernel then the ROM and it finally booted up.
Can't hurt to flash the boot.img first. Depends on the hboot and what kernel you're jumping from.

S-On ROM

Is there a ROM, preferable senseless, that can be flashed via CWM that will work if the phone has S-On? I've tried about four and they all hang at loading screens.

I would recommend Neo's Tron ROM or Neo's Infection ROM, for both all you have to do is take the bood.img and copy it into platform-tools (assuming you have the adb package for android) and type fastboot flash boot boot.img once you cd over to platform-tools
All of Neo's roms are great, and they include Snuzzo's funky kernel
Yep. When you are s-on you need to flash the boot.img manually afterwards, so you need to pull it out of the rom and flash it in fastboot or make a ph98img file with it.
That's probably all you needed with the roms you chose already so if those are your first choices try again flashing the boot afterwards.
Once I learned rainabba's toolkit I realized I could flash the boot.img via the Flash a Kernel section.
One thing though. Every Jelly Bean ROM I tried had an error with the camera. It would only work with an SDcard placed in the phone. Doesn't happen on ICS with Sense.
I have found that out.
I can flash everything normally while in a recovery, but I used the Rezound Toolkit to push the boot.img.
I did come across where every JB ROM I used would let the camera work unless an SD card was in the phone.

Flashing a kernel when S-ON

I have an HTC flyer rotted by unlocking the bootloader and it is S-ON. Everyone knows that when your flyer is rooted that way you'll need to flash the kernel manually
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
otherwise the kernel will not be flashed.
So now i have the lledroid HC ROM and I flashed the kernel with clockworkmod. (The kernel can be flash within the recovery) So my question is is the kernel now flashed or do I need to do it manualy.
Link to lee's rom (great work on it BTW) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406851
Don't personally know how LeeDroid handles boot.img. If the thread says that it will flash boot.img for you in recovery with S-On, than you should be good. The worst that will happen if try to boot, is that it will get stuck on the boot splash screen. In which case, just restart into bootloader, and flash the boot.img in fastboot.
On the other hand, flashing it manually (even if it was already flashed automatically) typically will not hurt anything either.
I knew that My question was can you flash flash a kernel using a zip file without commands with S-ON

If its not a feature of the installer for the particular custom ROM, then no.

thank you
Sounds like you need to flash the kernel. When s-on you need to flash the kernel separately after flashing the ROM.
Some ROMs make the PH98IMG of the kernel for you and if so it will be on the root of your external card. If you boot into bootloader it should ask you if you want to take the update, say yes, that's the kernel. You should be able to boot after that.
If there's no PH98IMG left for you, pull the boot.img from the ROM and flash in fastboot.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
If it's not the kernel issue then post back.
Followed your link to the ROM. Looks like you can just download the kernel from the thread. From the install directions:
**Installation of boot.img**
-download boot.img
-copy to pc to your fastboot directory
-cd to the directory
-type these commands
-"fastboot flash boot boot.img"
That is for if you are s-on, which you are. I'm sure this will get you going.
Yes !! it worked thank you alot
just one more question do i have to do the same thing every time i install a new rom?
Yes. Since you are s-on you must flash the kernel that goes with the ROM after you flash the ROM.
If you s-off you won't have to but it makes it easier to brick the phone. I've also read where some people have lost the use of their usb ports trying to s-off. I'm s-on and it doesn't bother me to flash the kernel separately. The ROM I'm using puts it on the sd card and puts the phone in hboot so all I have to do is accept the update. Easy peasy.
