could not load image -- trying to view pictures in text messages - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey guys,
I'm using a rooted stock ROM. Whenever I click a picture from a text message, I get the error "cold not load image" and a black screen. How do I fix this??
Thanks,

Try clearing the data on the msg app. Then boot to recovery and wipe cache & davlik cache. Then reboot and see if that helps.

I solved the issue. I removed ES file explorer. If anybody has the same issues as me, uninstall any apps that handle files or pictures and then reinstall them.

Thanks g2nightmare. Removing ES file explorer fixed it. Don't know why- ESSFE was not a recent addition (but , and when I added it back the issue did not return.

Thanks!
Same here. ES File Explorer was the culprit.
ES File Explorer definitely (with Handcent in my case but I am sure it is with any text messaging app) has issues viewing photos from within a text messaging app.
I uninstalled ES File Explorer and after I reinstalled it, I tested my text messaging app again.
The default to view images had been set to use ES File Explorer. I now selected 'one time' and viewed a picture with 'Gallery' app (which worked fine) and then tried the same image with ES File Explorer, also within my text messaging app, and it failed.
Once I confirmed which app worked to view photos from within the text messaging app and which didn't, I set the default to the 'Gallery' app and all is well now.
THANKS A LOT g2nightmare!

ES Image Browser cannot open picture in text messaging on many devices, that's true. Because ES doesn't ask for read_SMS pemission due to user privacy consideration.
I don't know why the rom selects ES as the only gallery app automatically, it might be a system bug, ES cannot do that. You can set the system app "Gallery" to open pictures in text messaging.

[Q] App associations for WAV files

I am trying to find a better way to listen to voice mail messages that are WAV attachments.
I installed Remote Wave Free for this purpose and used Gmail to set a default association for the wav file but the association does not hold up in the included email app, only Gmail.
I noticed that the extension is always capitalized so I tried creating a new association entry using Astro File Manager using the capitalized WAV as the name. I have tried both setting the association to wav and WAV within the setup but neither have had any success.
I then renamed the file to lower case wav and emailed it to both accounts. Now, in the email client when I click on the attachment it gives me an option of setting Remote Wave as a default but it will not give me that option when the extension is in upper case.
Is there anything else I can do to get this working as a default? Currently I have to download the file then open a file manager to select and play the message. When it is stored on the phone it does not matter if the extension is capitalized or not but only a lower case wav will allow the email client the option of setting Remote Wave as the player. If it is upper case Remote Player does not appear in the list.
Is there a way to associate the application with the mime type and extension it is able to play so it will appear in the list with the upper case WAV?
Nobody?
I was hoping someone could explain how an application knows which optional programs to provide when it is asking which app to open a file with.
Apparently Gmail does not care about the case of the file extension and the other email app does but I had hoped adding a capitalized extension of the correct mime type would have compensated for it.

3G data off / mms on

Hi
I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2's configuration.
I'd like to have ability to send and receive mms messages and block the internet traffic to avoid high bills.
For Gingerbread there's this great app/widget "smartapn" but now in ICS when google changed privilliges this app no longer works.
All those widgets which can on/off net traffic are useless as this is not solving an issue with mms.
Please advice what can be done.
My device is rooted so....any ideas please?

And you can use that app, I think. Just use one root explorer app with read and write previleges and use this steps:
-open your root explorer app (like Root Explorer, es file explorer, etc)
- go to "/data/ app"
- cut your apn program ( I use Apn Portugal app, I think you can also use it or Apndroid app)
- go to "/system/ app"
- if you do not have read/write previledges) please make sure you have marked it now to proceed
- paste it (at "/system/ app" lol)
- now select the program and go to properties
- change permissions, make sure you have selected: user/read, group/read, other/read, user/ write.
- select ok and reboot.
- Now, just use the app to do the trick and normally configure your apn and disable internet access.
Btw, in message definitions make sure you have not selected automatic resume at mms settings (helps preserving battery). When you receive one mms, just open data connection, go to messages and download the mms. You will not spend any cash.
Did any help?

[Q] Saving Pictures - Attachments

Just received a picture in my email that I would like to save. I download the picture and can view it, but then there's no way to access it or save it to my device. Not even a method for copying. Has anybody figured out a way to save or copy an email attachment?

I'll just go ahead and reply to my own thread. You have to go to your gallery, then switch the view to "albums", then all downloads. You'll find them in there.
Derp.
There's also a Downloads shortcut/app in the tools folder in the app drawer. Downloaded Astro file manager before I finally found that, but probably would have anyway.

Can't edit photo when opened from file manager

Can someone please tell me why is it that when I open a photo from a file Manger such as ES File Explorer or countless others that I've tries the only thing you can do is view the photo and if you're lucky maybe you get a share option but never and edit option. Even if you select OPEN WITH option and choose your favorite photo viewer such as Google Photos or GALLERY you get no edit options. This seems kind of stupid.
