I have an um-rooted samsung galaxy player 3.6 (running gingerbread 2.3.6) I was browsing an app when suddenly it crashed! the battery was low, so at first I thought to plug it in, but before I did, I noticed that it was rebooting every 4-5 seconds. plugged it in, took out battery, tried putting in recovery (put bat. back in, hold power and both volume buttons) but it vibrates and just goes back into boot loop. it pops up with the samsung logo, stays for 3 or so seconds, screen goes dark, then it does it again.
I have been messing with it. when it starts booting, my computer recognizes it as OMAP3630 which google has told me is the name of the processor. It tries to install drivers but fails due to "umplugged device" when it turns off
Weird! If you have data to recover try using adb logcat to see what's going on. Otherwise reflash with Odin. I have only experienced this problem when using heimdall to flash my us yp-gs1, but it happens right after flashing.
What app were you using when it happened?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
a Forum app. It has not been flashed either. it is all stock 2.3.6 gingerbread. if i put the battery in then plug it in (without hitting any power buttons) it goes to a loading circle (that does not move at all) and just stays there. the computer does not recognize it in this state. its only 3 months old, but I have no idea where the recipt is!
weird! im sticking with my answer tho, if you want to fix it then put it in download mode and flash it
if you cant get to download mode then buy a $2 usb jig
Tried it! no luck. got it in download mode. ran odin and It said pass! BUT it only took 3 seconds? and then instead of flashing just samsung then rebooting, it started flashing samsung with a caution symbol under it and rebooting. went to do it again and it says suctom binary current binary:custom. so it seems it worked but did not fix my problem
Did you flash normalboot and factoryfs both?

I had a similar problem with the galaxy player 5.0. Took out my micro sd card from it and somehow that worked. Hasn't gone on any reboot cycle since.
I was gonna try the fs whatever one, but now i cannot get my computer to recognize it! i tried another factory reset and that didnt help. i got it to work once. Guess I will have to keep trying? I got school so I cant do it now (16, junior in High school)
yep you'll need to get to download mode to flash it. like i said before, a $2 usb jig will always do the trick (i loooove mine)
I dont have any problem getting it into download mode, my problem is getting the computer to recognize it. gonna have to try it on a dif computer I guess, which is weird, because I got it to work once, but now it wont. I flashed the normalboot the first time, what did i do wrong? should I have flashed the other (fs or whatever is is) one instead? thanks for the help!
When I'm in a bootloop after heimdall testing I need to flash factoryfs. For you I would say flash both. Try another cable/ try another USB port

I've flashed my Galaxy S2 with Odin several times and it has worked fine until yesterday, when I tried to flash again, and everything just froze.
I followed the normal instructions for flashing and the phone just stopped at the "downloading" screen where it says, "Do not turn of target!!".
So it has been, for several hours now. The Odin window on my computer seems to be waiting... but for what? Will it ever time out?
Is it normal that a flash session can take several hours?
Is it safe to interrupt it?

Odin will flash, takes less than 5 minutes.
Is there any data running that you can see? I mean at the bottom left. I would suggest you turn off the phone, battery pull, wait for 5 minutes, and reflash back.
If it semi bricked, use JIG to revive it.
Either way, you can't be letting the phone there for the next few days etc right?
Did you click Start in Odin??
Although i don't have an s2(will be getting one soon) did you try to reset your pc? When i was flasing my sgsl i was stuck in this situation where odin seems to freeze everytime. I restarted my pc and poof, flashed without a problem
Edit: was flashing successful? If so maybe you should follow the instruction from the post below.

This might sound stupid but did you have 'auto-reboot' checked? It happened to me once even though I have flashed hundreds of times. Odin was still open after flashing a kernel and never reset.
Start was clicked - yes.
Re boot was checked - yes.
I reset my computer and restarted my phone and - now it's still frozen, but with an icon on the center showing three icons in a line. First is a phone, second is a exlamation mark and third is a computer. Yiipiiiee. It doesn't boot. I can't get into recovery mode. Download mode does work however, but still the same behaviour. It freezes if I try to flash it.
Now what? Where is that reset-button which resets the phone and clears its brain down to original mode? A simple "brain wash" would be nice.
Is there anyway out of this "freeze of death" ?
Flash CWM kernel, download CM7 rom, copy it on SDCard (mount USB storage in CWM, connect to PC via USB, copy ROM), flash ROM from CWM

Try to go into recovery mode and factory reset and clear cache and try flashing again (make sure you are on download mode)
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA Premium App
Hold power button to off it (hold a lil longer for this).
Then Go into recovery mode (power, home button and volume up at same time). Try do wipe all data, cache and even dalvik. Reboot and see if that works.
Alternatively, at the same place, go into restore backup.

Recovery mode doesn't work - nope. But thanks anyway. It's nice to see that people at least try to help. Big hugs to you all.
If I try to flash CWM, I come into the same freeze again. Mindbending stuff ala Samsung, huh. They clearly don't make idiot-safe products. I'm stuck. My next phone might be a StarTAC...
Has happened to me before. KIES was opened. I closed all KIES files and the flashing fun started again~
Good point, make sure Kies isn't running when using Odin!
Also, now that you've flashed CWM, can't you boot on it?
Kies is not running and whatever I flash - it freezes. The green progress bar in Odin reaches maybe 1 cm, but no blue progress bar is visible on the phone as usually happens when flashing. It just says, "Downloading... Don't turn off target!!"
Am I slowly heading towards the brutal-axe-method?
Sounds like the NAND is damaged to me, but I'm no expert...
"NAND" means? Why does it sound like it's damaged? How can it get repaired?
NAND is the flash chip (internal sdcard). Seems that its damaged because you're unable to fully flash it.
I don't think you can have that repaired (if the NAND is truly damaged, like I said I'm no expert), you'd have to get the phone replaced.
With all respect, let's hope you aren't an expert, but better. But has anyone else interrupted a flash process and went though a "freeze"?
I'm looking for a way to reset the phone to use only what was burnt into ROM from first delivery. I just can't accept that it is so easy to mess up a phone, and I doubt Samsung would be so crazy not to build it with a rescue kinda last savior. Am I totally naive? Is my baby dead? :'(
lol I hope for you that I'm wrong also!

Something similar had happened with me too. The phone was stuck b/w flashing with odin. And the startscreen was showing those 3 icons. It was soft bricked.
But I then finally fixed it by flashing CF and then a ROM
I was running the newest SKANK rom, and woke up this morning with it on the galaxy s screen. I pulled the battery, and tried to reboot, but the power button didnt work. it wouldnt boot into recovery either. I tried using odin, but it keeps hanging at either cache, or modem, and wont go any farther... I could really use some advice.
take it apart

hey bro whats up sorry to here that have u tried taken out your battery sim and micro for 5 minutes then putting back your battery only before this you should restart your computer then using a different usb port connect the usb then hold vol up and down same time hopefully download mode right away then you have to check repartition if your using some older version of odin it does not do it for you make sure you have correct files and you should be good odin will only hang usually due to wrong or mismatch pit and tar .... goto development section look for any of FISHMANs work he has plenty of odin images you can easily odin back to a rooted device and not have to go through all those steps in rerooting before any of my steps just make sure you have repartition checked on yes :good: hopefully that gets you some where :good:

Well try to get into download mode with the combo, then reinstall your Samsung drivers, try adding nexus drivers too. Idk much about this but skang, soft brick, and Odin problems caught me cause I run the same ROM.

Hello apparently I bricked my Rom while I tried to reinstall cm 7 or 9 I cant remember from the recovery on clockwork mod I had backup done of that. But then suddenly the phone randomly decided to turn off in the middle of operation. Then the phone wont turn on and if it turns on by some miracle then It just stays at Samsung logo or PC does not recognize it by usb. So I thought that trip to service place would fix it cause i totally bricked the **** out of it lol. Anyways I got told that repair costs 95 eur and that the phone has water damage. Now keep in mind that I keep my phones in dry place and handle them with care in rainy conditions or so. So it is not had any water damage. What impresses me is that they didnt even take it apart. So now im stuck with my bricked phone again and nothing to do. So I was quessing of any specialist could tell me how could I do the unpricking by myself. (Not a noob on tech part) I can sometimes after removing battery and stuff get it in charging mode or download mode but it happens at random.
Maybe u could try soft unbrick ( I think its called so...) The program on the PC will recognize ur phone and it will unbrick ur g5:thumbup:
But please tell me: does the g5 turn on (is it showing any live?)

Well it depends. Sometimes it turns on sometimes it wont sometimes it will start downloading usb drivers while connected to usb and sometimes wont. It just does what it wants but when it turns on its frozen on samsung logo.
Can you get to Odin mode (Yellow triangle)? If you can, try going back to stock. You can get the firmwares at sammobiles.com. Make sure you download the correct firmware. If not working, try flashing ClockworkMod and flash a signed CyanogenMod .zip file. But my problem now, I cant go back to stock. Seems like Odin flashed the stock correctly, but Im stuck at glowing Samsung logo.
Try flashing again?
Yes! Try Odin if the yellow triangle appears. If u cannot get into download mode with button combination try an USB JIG which worked for me like a charm
Odin is the best Option

I reflashed the ROM from samfirmwares but I have the same problem. The phone is stuck in a boot loop after stopping and freezing for a bit at the Samsung sign
Okay. Now when you turn on your phone normally (power button), youll see the glowing samsung logo over and over again right. And it seems to go on until battery empty (I think). Try flashing ClockworkMod instead and see if it boots ClockworkMod. I revived my phone this way, but not able to get to stock.
why don't you go to you're local service?
everything was fine til a bit ago
recharged via USB. The battery stuck at 100 and was kept at 100 for the whole day. After rebooting, it went down to 35%. Within 20 min, it went down another 10-15%. Only active app was Moon Reader, which shouldn't be that big of a drain. So I try to recharge it in the outlet, but the adapter isn't responding (green light). I plug it into the laptop via USB and it doesn't seem to register. So I turn it off w/ the intention of turning it back on.
Afterwards, I go to power it on, but nothing happens. I hold the power, power+vol buttons, but nothing. I plug it into the USB and hold power and it boots into that battery charging page (w/ the eight lines radiating outward, like a starburst) but quickly shuts off, then on ie it seems to boot loop. I remove it from the USB and hold power and boots into the charging page momentarily, then shuts down.
I've plugged it back into the outlet, the adapter registered (red light), and charged it for a few hours. I go to turn it on, but nothing's changed.
Any ideas on what's going on/a fix? Is this dead?
Thanks
Plus, when I plug into the outlet, it doesn't go to the charging screen
===
Addendum: fixed w/ Odin by flashing to Eryigit. Blast from the past or what. Download mode was apparently working (slipped my mind for some reason; had to really try for it; CWM was kaputt). Thank the gods.
===
Addendum 2: ERGH, THE GODS ARE CURSING ME. So ok. ITS BOOTLOOPING. 15 mins now. It passed with Odin, flashing Eryigit, and it just bootlooped (boot animation). Shut it down and a repeat of the original problem manifested (charging splash screen flashed on, then off, or just bootlooped) Installed 2 different .tar files (both Eryigit), trying a grand total of 3 times.
Any assistance'd be appreciated.

Can't go to recovery. Just goes to the charging page. (flashes on, then off). flashing stock through Odin doesn't work either (I've upgraded Kies, got the drivers, flashed the partition .pit file, then flashed the stock galaxy_player_2.3.6.tar.md5 file from: http://goo.im/devs/gmillz/venturi_usa/stock/galaxy_player_2.3.6.tar.md5)
it's still bootlooping.

Already tried. It's a no go. Thing is, When trying to boot normally or into recovery, I, instead of the Samsung splash screen, get that weird charging screen, which flashes on for a moment before turning back off.
In d/l mode, the laptop/Odin recognizes the device, although Kies doesn't seem to (attempting Firmware update or Emergency firmware recovery, although it's asking for this code that I don't have.) I've already tried flashing 2 different ROMs (GB), the stock ROM, and the stock bootloaders (found on this site)
After flashing, the Samsung splash screen appears and goes into the boot animation, where it then just bootloops. (although I"ve only waited 10-15 min. on average, trying 30 min another time. Perhaps not enough time...?_
It's odd. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary or hadn't recently. The battery just got stuck at 100% for the second time, then dropped abnormally upon reboot, then "died" upon power off. Aside from that, it's been behaving normally.
hmm.
Update: OK
So I flashed the bootloaders, which after resetting, got me into CWM. I tried to restore, but it failed. Error restoring /system. Every other folder was fine.
I then flashed the bootloaders, then flashed the stock 2.3.6 tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863004 which worked!
But after powering off, the same problem appeared (Samsung logo doesn't load, just the charging screen [even if not charging] momentarily before turning back off.)
What would cause trouble restoring/loading /system folder
Nothing was done out of the ordinary before so....
==========
==========
t So, trying again, first w/ the bootloader, then the stock 2.3.6..tar.md5,, I was able to d/l, root, upgrade via Odin to Eryigit- all w/o issue. When I turned it off, then back on, the same problem emerged (battery bar flashes on, then off)
Reflashed the bootloader, went to CWM, restored to an older GB, and everything went w/o a hitch. So it (the battery thing) seems only to be happening when I turn the device off. Any ideas?
i would restore using heimdall method instead. i have bricked my player litteraly 50 times and odin restore ALWAYS results in bootloop or brick. and i mean ALWAYS... every single time. although sometimes heimdall method wont work unless i use odin method first. so il have to flash with odin, bootloop/brick, then flash with hiemdall, works

The USB was at fault. The port was a bit off and thought the device was charging, hence wouldn't boot up w/o help (ie Odin/Heimdall).
Recently, my phone randomly rebooted and was stuck at the Vibrant logo and would not progress. So I used Odin to try to recover back to stock, but it is not working. Odin says that the phone was flashed properly and gives the "Pass" message. But the phone still does not boot. The phone can get into download mode, but not recovery.
Problem:
Phone boots past the "Galaxy S" logo, goes to the "Vibrant logo" and them immediately shuts off.
For some reason, the "Charging Battery" gif keeps looping when the phone is plugged in, as if the phone was continually being un-plugged and re-plugged. But I know this is not a battery connection problem, because the phone remains turned on in download mode.
I have tried Odin and Heimdall to no effect, and I would appreciate any help that I get.
Thanks in advance.

you might try a different cable.
I had the same thing happen with the charging symbol and it turned out to be a bad cable.
it would transfer data ok for the most part, just a bit sporadically slow, but the charging always did that weird looping thing.
I used a new cable and it was fine.
it might not be the same issue but it might be worth a shot.

Yep, I did all that. Nothing worked. But I got it fixed now.
For future reference:
When using CM10, my Vibrant got a corrupted Internal SD. No ROM boots except for Eugene's Froyo.
