I hope you didn`t mess up your EFS folder, did you back it up? If the EFS folder is corrupted/wiped and you cannot restore it you need to take the device in for repair.
Do you have the correct APN settings in settings, mobile networks?

I have a backup of my EFS folder, but I don't know if I'm restoring it right ... how I do it? Cause I'm following a tutorial but nothing happens...

I haven`t done it yet myself, so i`am not 100% sure on how to do it. Don`t want to get you into trouble by saying the wrong thing though,. There is an option in the S3 Toolkit to restore a efs folder i think. Download the S3 Toolkit by Mskip and read it well and try it or wait for someone else who knows more about this stuff. There are also various tools like for instance K-Tool by hellcat that can backup/restore efs folders. Good luck

get the philz touch cwm recovery
get into recovery mode
go into advance, restore efs backup
done

Flashing custom ROM kills EFS

I have problem with flashing, bought sgs2 today, wanted to make flash custom rom, phone is rooted with Doomlord exploit and there is cf root kernel flashed for cwm access (flashed via odin mobile), no simlock
When I flash any custom rom, phone apk keeps crashing, there is no cellular network and no IMEI in About the Phone section. I have tried restoring IMEI with EFS pro but after reboot its the same problem. I have EFS backup and nandroid backup.
What is wrong, I have two other phones, sgs2 and note, I didn't have those problems before, what is wrong this time? Any help will be great for me, I would appreciate ideas.
Is your phone plugged in to the wall charger or a USB port.
I used a custom ROM that would not allow me to reboot plugged in. Same problems as you.
When I reboot unplugged, service returns.

I'm aware of this problem, happend to me before, but unplugging doesn't help in that case. When I delete nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 it helps instantly but returns after reboot.
I have nv_data.bak in this folder and its some old file, like 2010 old, should I deleted it or something?
solved with wipe, which gave me random IMEI then restored right one with EFS Pro (thanks a lot for Dev Team of that app)
I keep reading about people loosing their ime after a flash but never bothered to remember if the flash was via CWM or Odin.
This might already have been investigated and I've missed it but it would be nice to know if anyone has lost their ime using Odin or if it's only through CWM.
This looks like it's happening more and more so it would be good to find out the cause.

This happened me yesterday, glad you managed to fix it, I didn't have a backup but thankfully there is a market app called GSII-repair and it can restore imei without a backup, hope this helps someone

Have I completely lost my IMEI?

I'm stuck with the generic IMEI (004999010640000). I've tried a number of the various workarounds (GSII_Repair, manually deleting the /efs folder, flashing stock and trying both of those from stock, re-flashing CM10 and trying from CM10 again...) with no luck. I was actually missing files in my /efs folder before flashing stock, but even with the full /efs folder I can't find my actual IMEI. So am I screwed?

Honestly? Probably stupidity. I didn't even realize it was an issue until I noticed apps were confusing me for other users (apparently some apps identify you by IMEI). I may just see about getting a warranty replacement. It's been acting a little flaky lately anyway (a couple apps have randomly completely lost their settings). The tinkerer in me (the one that probably got me in this mess in the first place, although I'm not sure when it happened) wants to try and fix it anyway.

No, I'm running Linux, and Odin doesn't appear to recognize my phone in Wine. What would I do in Odin exactly? I may try to track down a Windows machine today.

I guess my question is what should I be doing related to the IMEI? I've flashed to stock with Heimdall, but I don't have a backup of my original EFS partition that I could flash on there or anything. I thought maybe you were saying ODIN had some way to poke at something Heimdall didn't.

Are you sure you don't have an efs backup on your sd card? Some roms automatically back it up without you knowing.

Yep (I'm sure I don't have one). My /sdcard space was wiped on more than one occasion, back when CWM 6 decided to wipe it for me when it first started showing up in the nightlies. I ran a backup, and *poof*, there goes my /sdcard files. I tried recovering the files from the space, and was successful in recovering most of the pictures, but any large binary files (videos, archives, etc.) were corrupt. That said, I don't think there were any efs backups on there anyway, and I was having this issue before the space was wiped, I just didn't know the IMEI was the problem.
I don't know if this is any help to you but this thread seems to have helped a few. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853478 Found that using Google. Also there were other things to try from the google search.

Yeah, I tried going back to stock. I did see one (XDA?) thread somewhere that mentioned flashing over and over out of frustration magically worked for someone. Maybe I need to do that.
Does anyone here know anything about the " echo 'AT+EGMR=1,7,"your imei 1"' >/dev/pttycmd1 " command? I came across this, but it is all on international forums about international devices.
Edit: I don't see a pttycmd1 in our /dev so I'm guessing it'd just error out. Is there a similar command for the i777?
I lost mine back on my captivate. Josh over at Mobiletech videos (connexion2005 on xda) recovered it for a small fee.

I am on CM10.1
and i have noticed today that my imei no is different at back of device and when i press *#06#
IMEI ON BOX AND BACK OF DEVICE IS SAME
BUT

Its possible if your efs folder gets damaged .
It happens from time to time when people flash, I would restore my backup if the efs folder.

I believe he has a valid imei but it does not match that on the box or back..this is the first time I have seen this case..
1. Some one opened the box and replaced the original phone..
2. Refurbished phone in a different box..
3. Somehow the phone got mixed up in packaging..
Any of the above scenarios may be the reason..

ya now when I think of it none of them are possible..well it might have happened when Samsung was flashing the phone for the first time and there was a mixup....i don't think restoring the backup will solve it as the backup will have the same IMEI...flashing the rom never changes the EFS to something valid..

From what I've seen on previous posts if imei is zeroes like "0000000000" it means an efs issue, if completely different that really doesn't sound right at all.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Does it start 0049......?
Wrong IMEI is usually one of two IMEI codes . 0000 and something like 0046 .
Reads as a corrupt EFS folder to me as presumption is that it was the correct IMEI before you started flashing roms .
jje
on box and back of battery it starts with 353719**********
and at mobile it starts with same 353719********** that stars are changed
just now i flashed the samsung official indian rom and the IMEI no is still different
s guess its samsung mistake
possible reason is u got repaired galaxy s3. i mean Samsung service center guys changed motherboard and they forget that now imei number also changed.

[Q] Wiped out IMEI by accident

I was trying to install a modem for t-mobile to get their 4g as my phone is unlocked. I seem to have either wiped out the imei or something because now my computer doesn't detect the unit being there but I do have CMW that I can reboot to. Is there something in there I can try to reinstall?
What steps did you follow?

Blank IMEI after latest CM10.1.3 stable

I just flashed the latest stable 10.1.3 from CyanogenMod (released September 23) and now my IMEI is blank. Is there any way for me to restore it? I stupidly do not have a backup of the efs folder. When I check the efs folder now, it's empty. Is there anything I can do? Any help is appreciated.
Try this.maybe it could help.
Take out your provider card.Boot the Rom without it.then turn it off and put the provider card in. Boot your rom now.Is your imei back?

I tried this on mine when my IMEI number was changed by a rom. It didn't work for that. I reflashed to stock and mine came back. Can't get a back-up because it won't stay rooted same reason I can't restore it with Titanium. I started a thread on that issue.
I don't think titanium does imei... Reboot to stock or restoring an efs folder backup are the only ways I know how to restore an imei

Flash to stock with Odin. Get cwm recovery from the essential hard to find files thread in Dev section. Then flash cm7.2.0 backup imei from cm7 then flash to what ever ROM you want

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I was at work when it happened, so I kind of panicked, lol. When I got home I flashed the stock image with Odin and now it's working fine. But I have since made a backup of the efs folder so I can just restore the folder if it ever happens again. You always learn the hard way, lol.
