[Q] Flashed nAa now wont get past splash screen - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Mine goes to the nAa screen for a couple minutes then restarts and does this over and over. I think I missed a step. I did not format/system/data etc etc and did not get cwm. For some reason I thought I read you only needed to wipe or format if you were coming from another custom kernel. It took me over 4 hours to finally get the root and bootloader part finished.
I have no idea how to mount an sd card or install anything on the sd card. ios brah here so as of yesterday I had never even seen let alone messed with android.
Also confused if I need to load something after the nAa kernel or if it contains jellybean itself. Even the beginners guides seem to assume I am smart enough to know what mounting image or formatting cards means. Please anyone know where I went wrong_? Or maybe a link to a beginners guide my grandma could understand? Thanks and sorry but I have searched and come up short.
I never saw these instructions until after I flashed nAa. I followed all directions then after I flshed and scrolled down in the thread it said make sure before you flash to do these other steps. I wish there was a clear tutorial for technical retards like me.
flash JB kernel
in CWM, go to mount&storage :
then, format /system, /data and /cache (so that kernel can use the new partitions size) any data on phone memory will be lost
set up your swap:
==> go to /advanced/Partition SD Card
if you don't want to use a2sd, then choose the minimal size for ext, and the size you want for SWAP
it will FORMAT your SDcard ! any data on SDcard will be LOST
and install the rom

Ok I found this tutorial and it seems to cover most of my questions.
I am only wondering what to do first. Currently when I power on my phone u20i it goes to the screen with nAa and on bottom right of screen the version just as the picture shows but it just stays there for a minute or two then reboots. I can never get past that screen and I cannot shut the phone off without removing the battery.
Advice please thanks.

Press the back-button repeatedly (about 3 times a second will do nicely) when the phone starts to get into the CWM menu. There you can do the other steps needed.

Hi. I never installed cwm. Heres what I have done since my last post.
I partitioned the sd card and did the following. (didnt install recovery installer)
Create a folder on your microSD card and call it APK.
Download Mini Rom Manager and save the apk-file in the APK folder.
Download Recovery Installer and save the apk-file in the APK folder. (DID NOT INSTALL THIS IT IS DISCONTINUED) ************
Download kFix and save the apk-file in the APK folder (i will get back to this one later)
Download Dual Recovery and save the zip-file in the ROMs folder
Now you can remove the microSD card from your PC. Remember to use the "eject" function on your computer.
Put the microSD card back into your phone, click on its rear panel and turn on your Xperia X10 mini pro.
Now I turn my phone on and it goes right to the nAa screen with2.6.29.6-nAa-jb-03 on the bottom right. I have tried to hold the back button, click back button 3 times a second, and every other combination of clicking or holding the back button during boot. It never shows a sony screen and it always goes to the same nAa screen for a few minutes then reboots on its own and repeats until battery is removed.
Any ideas? Noob here so very plain speak is appreciated.

press back button repeatedly, when naa logo is drawing.

CWM is included in this kernel, so it is available. Start pressing the backbutton like i said before the logo starts showing.

Ok I tried it a few times and a few different ways. Fast, slow, medium speed. From the moment the phone comes on and when the logo appears. No luck. By the way the logo slides in already drawn from the right to the center of the screen then under nAa "freedom within" is drawn. I am not sure whats up but nothing is working so far.

I have done all this with the phone disconnected from the computer.

Yes, it doesn't need the computer for those steps, try to reflash the kernel, and if it still doesn't work, maybe redownload the kernel.

1 Ok I started flashtool and connected phone
2 started reading and I didnt start in flashgmode or anything. (I did try this again holding back button during startup but it still wouldnt enter flashmode)
3 Phone did the standard restart its has been doing (start/boot into nAa screen/stay there a while/restart by itself and repeat loop)
4 Restarts here again
Repeats this over and over. It never stays connected long enough for a flash to take place. The phone was bone stock when I started. I used seus to update through sony to latest version android. Then I rooted. Then unlocked bootloader. Then flashed nAa 2.6.29.6-nAa-jb-03. Then first boot was going as tutorial states until it never booted past nAa screen. So now I am here.
Tried to update on seus just now hoping it would flash back to stock but nAa restarts right in the middle of whatever I am trying to do when connected to usb cable. So it always disconnects before update or flash can complete.

Press home and power buttons together to make it restart, and as soon as the screen goes black ( backlight off too ) press and hold the back-button to go into flashmode. You can do this with the cable already connected and flashtool ready to flash.

Ok I tried it and no restart. So I took out battery replaced battery started and waited 60 seconds then help home and power. It did a little buzz/vibrate and shut off and as soon as it shut off the green light top right came on solid. I hit the back button about the same time as green light came on. Nothing happened but when I released back button green light went off and reboot continued. I can hear the laptop beeping the noise that means usb is connected or disconnected. It seems like when the green light shines the usb disconnects. And when The green light goes off usb reconnects. Also wjhen I click and hold back button it seems to freeze the system so if I hold back button during restart green light stays on nothing happens. I then release back button and light goes off. If I click back button again it will stay there no green light screen off forever until I release back button then it immediately restarts and boots to nAa screen. When I remove the battery and reinsert 30seconds later the green light comes on for 15 seconds approx. then goes off and phone turns on by irself and boots to same nAa screen.
I tried over 20 times to hold power and home(middle button) after device was fully powered on to nAa screen but was only aboe to get it to restart once and I am not positive I held both buttons securely when it did restart the one time. Regardless it never has allowed me to flash or repair with seus or enter flash mode as far as i can tell.
Thanks for taking time to help me. Very sorry this is such a pain.

So I plugged in the phone to the wall charger just in case battery was low and no led lights or lcd indicators saying its charging. Then boots to nAn screen. So I might not be able to charge it now. Last thing before flashing nAa I am pretty sure it was in usb debug mode. Not sure if it matters.

Does anyone have any idea what I should do here? I cannot use the phone now at all. I have tried all proposed solutions and am still stuck.

Its like nAa took over completely. It never gets past the nAa screen when I turn it on.
I power on the phone. click back repeatedly but it still boots to nAa screen.
When its fully booted I press and hold power and home buttons and nothing happens.
I boot it completely to nAa screen and press and hold power button only and nothing happens.
I boot it to nAa screen and leave it alone and it reboots by itself about every 60 seconds or so.
Seus starts to connect to the phone and as soon as it connects the phone disconnects itself and reboots.
I take out battery for an hour and the replace it and it sits there in off position. I plug it up and a few seconds later it turns itself on and procees to boot to nAa and reboot over and over.
It doesnt like and usb plugged into it and will nto stay connected to usb no matter if its to charge, flash, or seus.

Special thanks to SmG67 for recommend the bridge app for mac http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/bridge-for-mac/
Started app, updated app, removed battery 5 seconds, plugged sony cable into computer and phone, then held back button while plugging in battery. Kept back button pressed the entire update(approx 3 minutes) Thank followed instructions and it booted right up no nAa splash screen.
Thanks Smg67 for taking time to figure this out.

Now if I can get it to ginger/ics/or jb without screwing it up again. I really wanted jb but I sure dont wanna mess this up again...

Ok so apparently I flashed E10 instead of U20 nAa kernel. Now I thought I had everything right. I boot it goes to nAa splash screen then goes to screen with Cyanogen (mod) in the middle of an animated blue circle. Stuck on this animated circle screen forever now. Any idea what I did wrong?

Ok got it. I missed the factory reset step. So flashing wrong rom and not performing factory reset were my issues.

Hi again. I cannot seem to find the playstore or android market on my phone. No icon anywhere. How can I get apps on my phone? I just wanted a few basic ones like google translate, gmail, and maybe 1 or 2 more.

Yeap, even your Mini hangs in boot screen, hold Home and press Enter before pressing the Back button may lead you to SEUS update mode.
And I simply hope this may help you unbricking your phone ;-)

Holding the Home button, and then press the Power button. That will force close the boot up progress with a vibration. Fast press and hold the Back button until green light on.
SEUs will start then.

Non functional x10a, (not sure if brick or HW faulty)

Hello, this is my first post on this board, and this is sort of my debut question.
Firstly, I would like to say that I have had lots of programming experience, as well as microcontrollers and other hardware, so feel free to throw any jargon or acronyms (relative ofc ))
I bought a Sony Xperia x10a from Kijiji. When I inspected the item (in person), it worked flawlessly, albeit a little slowly.
Taking it home, I turned the phone off, and that's where the problem happened.
I turned it off, and plugged the charger in (from a Samsung Galaxy Gio - 5V 700mA)
The phone said "Sony Ericsson" then the branding "Rogers", after which it turned off. The Charge LED is not functional.
The only way I could start the phone is after a battery pull.
If I just press and hold the power button, the phone vibrates and just does nothing, occasionally it will boot to the "Sony Ericsson" then "Rogers" and then the screen turns off. Again, pressing the power button does nothing.
If I hold both the Menu and Back keys, the phone will boot into the OS, be detected by the OS, but only for a second, as about 3 seconds later a progress wheel comes up - says "Activating Phone" and then just black screen.
I can go into the "flash mode" by turning the phone off, holding the back button, then plugging in the USB cable, the LED turns green.
The problem is that I am unable to find drivers for this mode so I can use flashtool to flash a custom ROM on it (or a generic ROM)
I have installed some Sony Ericsson PC Companion, installed the "Support zone" but it can only detect my phone for that split second it is actually on "with the back + menu button combination", then disconnects.
I looked for SEUS But it tells me that it is not available for the x10
I will try the flash tool, but not sure, since last time I tried it (older ver) it told me to connect the phone in USB debug mode.
Any ideas? am I screwed?
Thanks!
---EDIT---
Never mind, I found the SEUS, however I have a problem.
When I try to flash X10a_1.0_2_1_A_0_435.ftf the X10FlashTool gives me this log:
27/040/2011 20:40:27 - INFO - Searching Xperia....

That would be all nice and all (to turn on unknown sources and debug) but I can't as I can't even boot the OS anymore, just the flash mode (usb and back key)
27/040/2011 20:40:27 - INFO - turn on Unknown Sources and Debugging
That would be all
---------another update-----------
I have used the SEUS, looks like its super screwed. SEUS found an update to my phone, downloaded, installed it, and now I am screwed.
There is nothing I can do that makes the phone turn on at all - well I mean I can press the power button and then the phone vibrates and the LED flashes green for a split second. Then nothing. The screen does not even turn on at all. I have tried every combination I can think of and am out of options.
Any ideas as to what is messed up?
try the newest flashtool. download the firmware you want. if you can get into flashmode then it should work
So this is the link for the flashtool?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Strange however why SEUS didn't work, I mean it did work, but nothing happens. Vibrate upon powerup, no screen image, no combinations can make it work again.
The phone has also started vibrating until I do a battery pull (once in a while)
Also, where would I find the 1.6 roms?
Thanks!
I've had times when after wiping caches, flashing rom, baseband, and kernel, the phone took 15minutes to boot up. Make sure to wait long enough for the phone to restart, after flashing matching rom, baseband, and kernel.

However I am relatively a noob to this, so any idea how I would flash the baseband and kernel?
I did use another rom to flash, and it worked!
It turned on, I configured it. I turned it off and.................
same issue now. I turn it on, it vibrates, however that' the end of it. The screen is still black, granted I have not waited 15+ minutes.
Still. How the heck did it turn on the first time. It had the icon of the "camera with a blue arrow" and then it paused a while at the Sony Ericsson loading screen. Then it asked me for initial configs.
BTW, I am on Virgin Mobile.
Did you try the SEUS repair? By this I don't mean the one that comes with PC Companion.. but there is a stand alone application out there.. However also check to see if the ROM your loading is meant for an unlocked boot loader or not, if it's expecting an unlocked boot loader, I would think an error such as that would occur.
Tired it. SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) loads, says that a newer version was found, downloads it. Flashes it. And same thing.
The interesting thing is that my x10 DID boot and did turn on. I could use it, however when I restarted it, that was the end.
Now I tried reflashing the same ROM, it just freezes at a black screen after the white "Sony Ericsson"
I am trying SEUS again, maybe that will work... However now it tells me that the software is allready installed. I thought it should be overwritten by the new rom with flashtool?
Very odd......
Still. the Charge LED does not work.

First, pop out the SDCard.
Then open the x10 Flash tool and go here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733
Downloaded this
All Generic 2.3.3 Kits For X10a
X10a_3.0.1.G.0.75_AMERICA-US GENERIC 1233-8200.zip (140.5 MB)
Then in the x10 Flash tool, click Flash, navigate to the folder where you have extracted the file that that x10a.zip file
Then turn off the phone, remove battery. Plug USB into computer and phone, hold the back button on the phone, and while holding down on that back button, slip back in the phone battery.
Hopefully that will initiate flashing the phone to 2.3 and maybe fix some of those problems.

1) download 2 things, flashtool 3.0 and go from SE generic firmware,
download firmware from here
Flashtool from here
2) take flashtool and decompress it onto desktop and into a flashtool folder. Then take the .ftf file out of first download, and stick it into the "firmware" lfolder located inside flashtool folder you created above.
3) start flashtool by double clicking flashtool (the application) file, once the program starts, click on "Flash" button, choose ftf file Sony Ericsson Global GGL or whatever the name is and press OK button at bottom.
4) Flashtool program will configure itself, and when ready, another window will show up telling you what to do. Make sure you have a good USB cable.
5) *if it doesn't work, take out the SD card and SIM card and try again.
6) report back after trying or not.... if it works, you will have a global generic 2.3 in your X10 and you will ready to root it, install Xrecovery, and flash a custom rom from the development section.
Thanks for the great support guys!
I am about to try this out, just a quick question, (well 2 actually)
1) Do I need to have the SIM in the phone
2) after flashing (after flash-tool tells me to remove the USB and turn the phone on), do I insert the SD card back in the phone?
Thanks!

Here is an interesting development.
Flashed the firmware with the one suggested,
Success:

Thanks!
Stick in SIM and SDCard.
Make sure the phone is not plugged into the computer. Make sure the phone does have power. (battery power can go from full to under 10 percent just through the flash process)
Just to confirm....you flashed to X10a_3.0.1.G.0.75_AMERICA-US GENERIC 1233-8200.zip ??
X10a_3.0.1.G.0.75_AMERICA-US GENERIC 1233-8200.zip indeed, extracted it, flashed the ftf using the tool. Pretty sure the battery was in good condition.
So I would flash it with both the SIM and SD card in the phone?
After the flashing is successful, I would unplug the USB, and turn the phone on, that's when it would vibe once (and blink the green LED), the backlight would come on, and then nothing.
Is there nothing I need to do before flashing? Flash a new bootloader or kernel on it?
Also, isn't it strange that when I plug a charger into the phone, the LED that is supposed to glow orange doesn't glow at all?
I want to blame the HW, but it did work -_-'
====EDIT====
I think I am going to give up soon. I've flashed like 4 different roms on it, upgraded the software with SEUS, It worked once (booted in once, asked me for inital configs), tried the same rom, wouldn't work a second time... Should I just give up?

I am assuming you waited the 10 - 15mins after flashing the gingerbread global... that ftf file had kernel baseband and rom in it. Anyways , didnt you buy it from an xda member? why dont you ask for help or relevant info?
Yes, I did. (both to buying it from a member, and to waiting 15 min - waited overnight).
I met the seller in person, and had a working phone at the time of purchase. The phone broke after the first shutdown.
When I called the person, he brushed me off, said "Did the phone work when I sold it to you, yes? Then why are you calling. Goodbye" :S
Oh well, You win some you lose some.
Sorry for doublepost.
I have reached a new checkpoint.
Flashed the rom, booted the x10, left it overnight, now I have a strange thing.
I try to power the phone on, and the LED flashes red 3 times and nothing happens.
I read that that is the sign of an empty battery, is that the case?
Thanks!
PS: When flashed, the battery had 100% (charged in another x10)

Led flashing red 3 times is just a dead battery. I have same problem as you, not booting up, vibes when u press power button, green light flashes then nothing..... seems like i tried everything. SEUS fails to restore my phone, tried 3 diffrerent flashtools with this firmware:X10a_3.0.1.G.0.75_AMERICA-US GENERIC 1233-8200.ftf and sometimes it succeeds, sometimes it fails at "flashing userdata.sin". No matter what i try it just wont boot... NO SE logo just black screen....

[HELP] x10 mini does not power on

Hi everyone,
I have problems with my x10 mini - probably there is issue with bootloader - phone doesn't rised after reflashing stock FW.
Let me start from the beginning:
1) I wanted to have MiniCM10 on my phone
2) I unlocked bootloader (procedure taken from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225)
3) I flashed nAa jb kernel (procedure taken from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837135)
4) and then problems occur
5) My xperia catched a bootloop (stuck on nAa animation)
6) I flashed stock kernel (using Flashtool)
7) My xperia catched a bootloop (stuck on SE animation)
8) I did factory reset and wipe cache in recovery X - did not help
9) I flashed stock ROM (using Flashtool)
10) xperia powered on, vibrated, blinked for a few times and went to sleep...
Currently I cannot get into flashmode (back button+USB in) so I cannot use either flashtool to reflash the rom or SEUS (or SMUS now).
Is there any other way to get xperia into flash mode? Is there any way to bring my phone to life? Currently, my computer recognizes x10 as x8, and flashtool gives info that it is in MTP mode.
I have experence in flashing Samsung (i5700 and i9000), although this tiny phone is quite a challange
Thank you for your help.

Where did you get stock kernel and stock rom from?
Does it still vibrate and turn itself off when you press the power-button?

I cannot check the sources at this moment, although I followed links posted here (xda).
I have made a check this morning (I had it plugged to charger for whole night) and it was still asleep, although I felt like it was little warmer.
Any ideas how to help?

Well, if your phone turns off by itself waiting for battery-death doesn't do any good, especially since you just charged it all night Could take months...
Start it up with usb connected already and flashtool ready to flash (with the popup on screen), as soon as the screen-backlight ligths up press power- and home-buttons together and press the back-button when the light goes off again.

Well, I guess, the first time you flashed the JB kernel, you tried to run it on stock ROM... that doesn't work.
Don't know if you did the formats required for the jb-rom, but that would have prevented the stock rom from running properly.
And maybe the cache and dalvik-cache were still filled with old junk from a previous ROM, preventing the new ones from starting properly.
one of these, or a combination maybe... i'm not sure...

[Q] Bricked Xperia X10i

Hello all.
I would like to ask you for help with my phone.
I bought Xperia X10i (in immaculate condition) sold as dysfunctional. Seller claimed that the phone is broken because of the flashing red LED light.
When I tried to turn it on, actually flashing red LED. I immediately swapped battery for a fully charged and red LED changed to green LED.
When I try to turn on the phone, green LED blink once & shortly vibrate and that's all.
No logo...nothing. Phone not respond till I remove battery. When I put the battery back, the situation is repeated.
I left the phone on the charger over 24 hours, even though it had a fully charged battery.
When I connect phone to the wall charger, green LED lights up for about 70 seconds. Then LED goes out..
When I connect phone to the USB on PC, green LED lights up for about 10 seconds. Then LED goes out..
When I run SEUS, and hold on Back key, I receive:
"New software is available for your phone
Update your software to get latest features and corrections and keep your phone in the best possible condition."
Once I confirm upgrade, SEUS download firmware and start installation with result:
"The installation failed
Please disconnect the phone and make sure that battery is fully charged before trying again. if the problem persists, please contact support."
Note: battery was fully charged and tested in the second functional phone.
When I try to flash it, FlashTool_0.2.9.1-GBready_root_xRec return this:
"21/026/2013 02:26:21 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized

I managed to unbrick mine by using windows 7, then pc companion, then using the repair phone option.
It seems windows xp and windows 8 are crap at recognising drivers.
try watching vids like this:

hope it works for you also.

Stuck with Flashmode, no screen on

Hey,
I'm stuck with a brick at the moment.
I (stupidly) did hold power button and volume up when I needed to restart Sony Stock Jellybean + Doomkernel and phone would not restart.
So I flashed NUT's .532 ICS, rooted and installed Dualrecovery.
First I tried flashing Stock 5.1.1 but it bootlooped - tried this a few times.
Then I tried flashing XSlim 3.2 and 2.41 the normal way with Team Win Recovery but neither would boot.
Unfortunately I tried to flash XSlim again and I got a wizard-like interface that I have never seen before by accident (I was trying to flash using Team Win Recovery again and I'm not sure how I got to this wizard)
Since the wizard appeared to be doing everything I do to flash firmware I clicked through it and rebooted - and now I'm stuck:
Phone does haptic if I hold the power button and it will go into flashmode.
When I try to flash NUT .532 using Flashtool it gives the following output and aborts:
Code:

Can anyone please help me?
EDIT: After trying various things all involving Flashtool nothing has worked and the same error occurs in Flashtool everytime.
I did however notice that I *can* turn the device off using Power+volume UP -> 3 haptic alerts (I incorrectly stated that this didn't work) and then press the power button again to get 1 haptic alert.
The LED is functioning but only rarely - specifically it works when I hold volume DOWN and plug USB in to activate flashmode.
EDIT 2: LED has come back on - no idea what I did to cause it and it's red like it is with battery <10%. Still no screen life though. I'll wait and see if it turns orange and then I might be back in business again possibkly.
Edit 3: LED is on again, I noticed I also have this SEMC Drive thing when I plug my ZU into the computer but unfortunately the fix doesn't work for me as in the is thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/help/wont-start-charging-led-power-vol-t3278792
Curiously the LED flashes red if I plug the phone into a few non-stock USB powerbricks I have lying around. They have previously charged the phone without any issue that I could see and I've never seen the LED flash like that before.
Edit 4: LED just turned off by itself, nothing done by me :|
Edit 5: LED is now cycling on and off very, very slowly and sometimes showing re to green like it's entering flashmode.
Edit 6: Flashtool is working as though the device is already in Flashmode without my intervention
Blinking red LED could indicate a kernel panic, which would also explain why it won't boot. Hold VOL UP while connecting your device to your computer. The LED should turn blue and stay on until you unplug it again.
Is this the case? Cool. Open Flashtool, click the flash button and choose "fastboot" (VOL UP + USB = Fastboot). Then click "flash kernel". Note that you have to download a kernel with recovery included before this step. Just find a random kernel from around here that includes a recovery. Once you've.done that, flash it, unplug the device and press VOL UP when the phone boots and it vibrates at the SONY logo. It should boot into recovery now, and you can restore or flash a ROM.
Thanks for the reply.
I'm pretty sure your advice has fixed it as I just got a screen on but device is acting strangely - I'm guessing it's battery related and it needs to charge for a bit.
Cheers, will update shortly.
Did you solve it?
Hey yes thank you!
It needed to be left overnight to be charged but now it's restored thanks to you!

Dear Klaos3000 and diji1,
Yesterday, my phone went soft-brick also. Luckily, I could enter Fastboot. So, that's a decent start.
The problem is, I seem not to be able to find a kernel matching the description
Really, I tried flashing CM 12 kernel, Dual-recovery kernel... 5 different ones so far. However, after I flash the kernel with Fastboot, upon reseting, it keeps blinking red light for 3 times.
So guys, especially diji1, would you mind sharing the kernel file you used?
Much thanks my friends!

Man, trust me, I'm smashing that thanks button right now.
I had the same issue and searched for days with no results. I now have been able to get into twrp, screen working again, everything seems to be fine for now, I flashed CarbonROM
Well, I was writing this with my device beside me, and it just fully booted up. Nothing else to say, I love you. Cheers mate, cheers. You made my day.

Old thread but could use your help. I'm in the same boat, trying to revive my old Xperia Z and what I think happened is I was trying to flash an updated TWRP while battery percentage was low and erratic. In any case, my phone appears dead but yes I can get into flashtool and get it into fastboot mode (blue light stays on).
After this though I am stuck. I did as you mentioned, tried to find a kernel around here which I believe is the boot.img file contained in most ZIPS but keep getting a 'command failure' message in flashboot.
Prior to screwing up my phone it was unlocked/rooted and running a 5.1.1 firmware although I cannot recall which one. I have tried:
MEOW-kernel.v2.07.14-kitkat-yuga
XzI-v5
both of which I found as ZIPS and extracted the boot.img files but got the same error on flashtool. I was trying to find DOomlords kernel but the download links here don't work anymore (https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/orig-development/kernel-doomkernel-v22-t2172888)
I could really use some help getting my phone up and running again!
