Anyone still having issues with update killing phones? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I used the CASUAL based exploit by Adam to dodge the first one, which failed after being accepted, but a new update pooped up today which I deferred...
Anyone know what this is, or already accept it without issue?
Rev3 rooted, stock Rom, CASUAL suck it Verizon exploit completed

Just a little tip. If you're rooted or unlocked never accept an ota. Just freeze sdm 1.0 and you'll be good

Use TiBu to freeze the app mentioned above.
I would only update with packages pushed from trusted Devs from this site once you're rooted and unlocked.

[Q] Still nagged by OTA update

I know I am being slow, but I kept putting that OTA on hold for some time and turns out I can't install it because I had installed Exynos Abuse (back when the vulnerability wasn't patched yet) and this, of course, prevents the successful installation of OTA update.
What are my options given that I am more or less okay with the stock ROM? I am open to better options, of course, but the main point is to get the update on my Note II and get on with my life.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Buy titanium backup pro and freeze sdm1.0 I think it is?

If you own my My Backup Pro, you can use that as an alternative to Titanium Backup Pro.
Any other options? Like return to stock and let OTA in? What are implications of that - would I still be able to root?
What is the latest Android version available for Verizon's Note II, is it 4.1.2 or 4.2.x ?
reading is fundamental.

OTA Update being forced through?

So this morning I start looking at my S4 and each time I wake the device up the OTA update pops up EVERY time.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Quite annoying.
Looks like I'll be rooting my phone today.

My S4 is also rooted and I'm getting reminders to update via the OTA update like every 30 seconds. Do I need to unroot before I install the update? If so how do I do this? I'm running the stock ROM. I just rooted to do backups and to have more Tasker options. Thanks!

If you want to retain root do not update to the new OTA. Find the OTA blocker hack or install a rom with it built in.

At this time, if you take the new OTA, you will not be able to root again or unlock the bootloader. A few have reported that they were able to maintain root with voodoo but the custom revovery is lost forever at this time. There is a nice bounty growing for an unlock so hopefully someone will figure out how to unlock this thing.

What he said. If you made those backups with a custom recovery you won't be able to use them until the devs figure out another work around. This might take some time... That is if ever. If you're talking about titanium backup than just root should do. But right now if you ever loose root or need to Odin back because of something you might loose root for good.... Something to think about

For those of us who have root and want to keep it, it looks like VZN is making it a pain in the sitting spot.....
The notification is persistent and only allows me to defer it until later today, so I am scrambling to find a way. I installed OTA Rootkeeper (aka Voodoo) and it includes the notification that that it is "Useless with Samsung phones updated via KIES or ODIN...." or "....any device flashing the entire system partition.."
I have made a "protected su copy" using Voodoo, and taken all backups with Titanium. I am not sure if there is anything else I can do at this point.
I would like to stop the update from happening, but have not seen a definite way to do that.
There is a Samsung Galaxy S 3 OTA blocker, but I doubt it will work for the S 4.
If anyone knows how to stop this pain in #$$ update, I would love to try it.

Thanks! It worked! Now what?
How do we get the updated stuff? My phone is rooted but no custom ROM. I had a custom rom on a previous phone and it seemed like it always needed maintenance and I'm not willing to spend that kind of time with this phone. Seemed like something was always going wrong. Can I keep root but also get the updates as they roll out for my S4? Sounds like my only option is to unroot and update.
Thoughts?
Thanks again!

[Q] Blocking the Verizon Galaxy S4 update from installing?

Gentlemen, I have a stock, unrooted Verizon Galaxy S4 and it just started prompting me for the dreaded update. I've been planning to root but just haven't gotten around to it yet, and I've heard that it can eventually just start installing itself if you keep deferring it. Is that true, and if so, is there a way to prevent that from happening short of rooting (which again, I plan on doing, but probably won't get around to until next week)?
If it's not and I have to root to block the update from installing and therefore losing root, what's the process for that?
Muchas gracias in advance. Apologies if this has been answered in other threads, didn't find it in a quick search.
Rooting is super easy and takes less than a half hour. This is the guide I followed and had no issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798. Freeze sdm 1.0 after root and your safe from the update.

Freeze it using Titanium Backup? Just to make sure I understand correctly.
Yeah, or my back up pro... Anything that freezes system apps will work.

Turn airplane mode on until you root, seriously if you care about root or customization, root and install custom recovery ASAP.
*Then its important you Freeze the SDM app* As Ryno mentioned, this is what gives the ota update notification.
You can do all other customization like freezing bloat, installing custom roms, kernels, etc. Later.

Can I assume that this will still work to block the latest KitKat update. I read another thread that talked about needing to delete two files ‘fota.client.apk’ and ‘fwupgrade.apk’. Is that necessary, or am I good just freezing that SDM app. I will probably rename it as well. Do I need to back everything up before I rename it?

Need help from someone experienced

I have a galaxy s4 for verizon. I rooted it around May 25 using something called motochopper which I think used a mostly stock rom. Around mid July I started getting a message pop up to update my system software. So far I have not done this because I read it would remove root. I would like to keep my phone rooted and either remove the message to update or else find out how I can update and then re-root. The issue is one time I press the install update by accident and thankfully it gave an error which prevented my phone from updating so i am not even sure how to do this. I am not very experienced with this sort of thing and I really have no idea about all of the different types of roms out there. Can somebody point me in the right direction to a guide?
I have the ATT I337 S4 but check out the Verizon forum every so often. If you have "root" and a "recovery" with "Loki doki" than I would flash a Rom u might take interest in.most roms have the update option blocked. Have a backup made in case u don't like what u flash.read and follow all install procedures for each Rom/kernel.

I originally used the app Titanium backup to freeze the update app (since I use Titanium backup anyway). Go to backup/restore and scroll down to SDM 1.0 and freeze it.
But I also believe you can disable the app by long pressing the update notification, clicking app info and disabling it there.
duckworth has the right idea. Freeze SDM 1.0 with TiBu and also freeze FWupdate. There is also a way to delete the downloaded update from your phone. Can't remember where its located though.

2+ years from now, you will probably have a different phone... the Galaxy S8 or Note 7 haha. It shouldn't be a problem and you could always flash a Custom ROM depending on your current build. Are you on MDK or ME7?
