I9100T Mic volume very low! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now, I had this phone for about a year and a half and this issue never happned, I tried resetting ALL the data of the phone, nothing.
I tried dialing *#197328640#, but it will not let me access audio. What to do?

Maybe the mic is damaged phisically, has the device been beaten? it was submerged? Maybe it's because the phone is old.

Funny thing is that I actually replaced the mic. But the issue is still there also is there a way the access the Service audio thingie?

write to HTC so they get more fan mail, seems it's happening a lot :/ google gives more people with LEDs/headphones problem :/
I had the same issue, after much searching on google I found its a common problem and there's an app called toggle headset that will resolve this. Last time I checked it wasn't in the Marketplace, a quick search on google should lead you to it.
If you have any trouble finding it, let me know and I'll dig out the link for it when I get home.
One word of warning, its unsigned, but it works like a charm for me with no untoward side effects.
Florida.
Could you sned me the link please? I couldnt find it.
Try google and toggle headset+android. Bet you find it then.
Here's the link to the projects site, you should be able to download it from there -

I had the exact same problem and a simple reboot fixed it for me. No problems since. I wrote about it here

I just got a new phone today. Hope this one doesn't pack in too
Toggle Headset did it, but it's still annoying to have to toggle stuff like that....also, any similar toggles for LED's?

Woah... it sure worked to use that widget... then it IS a software problem.
Let's see if I can deduce something from what I have been reading and my own experience so far:
1. The first couple of days I had the HTC Hero the device automatically switched from internal speaker to headphones when I put those in.
2. After a while the device no longer recognised when using headphones.
3. Then I started to listen in the headphones while pulling the plug in and out of the socket. I DID hear clicks which told me that there wasn't anything loose to the contacts.
4. Then I read that others had the very same problem and someone suggested that a hardware reset maybe would fix it. I wasn't prepared to go that path just yet though. Then something happened that more or less forced me to do that hardcore reset anyway. That didn't fix it.
5. Enter "Toggle Headphones". It works.
From this my first thought was that it might have been a hardware fault and a return was necessary. Then I began to read about others having the same problem. A hardware fault affecting lots of users in the first week the phone had been out in the wild? I am not saying it could not happen but it is very unlikely though. But then again a hardware reset should have fixed it right? It didn't. The date and time the phones gets from the network would have been reset too, but since the phone immediatly gets the right time and date as soon as it is powered on from a hardware reset makes it dificult to test (I know we can turn off that feature).
As it is now I think something is wrong with the time and date thingy. And it is a software problem.
Scratch the time and date stuff. I just tried to manually change the time and date back to the day I first got this device and it didn't work either.

[q] mic problem

Hey i'm new to here....but i will get straight to the problem..
i been having problems with my mic, the one in the top. I thought it was a software issue but it was not because i tried flashing lots of stock roms but still didn't work...my other mike is working fine...but when i turn the speaker on the phone uses the mic in the top, and when video catting also the phone uses the top mic, so i cant do anything so my question is that is there any way to set my second mic to be used for everything...like for video chatting on skype and tango, instead of using the mic on top, can the mic in the bottom be used?? is it possible to set the lower mic to be used for everything?? hope someone will help me thank you!
please somebody help me please
I don't know the answer to your question, but dude, you gotta wait longer than a couple hours before whining.
This is a development forum, not a tech support forum. No one is paid to sit around watching for support request posts. People answer posts of their own free will, on their own time.
EDIT: actually, I'm curious now. You say you're having issue with your top mic. Do you have a case on the phone? If so, does the case have an opening for the top mic? If so, are you sure the mic opening is clear of debris?
i'm sorry.... no its doesn't have any case or anything...and its clear...i even tried to put a small pin into it to see if there is anything stuck inside it, but their was nothing

Exactly what is the problem you are having with the upper mic anyways? You never say.
I don't know of any mods that will re-route all mic functions of the upper mic to the lower one... So if the upper mic is simply not functioning, it sounds like it could be hardware fault.
Your only option may be to send it for repair. Since you say you tried flashing a bunch of ROMs, you'll have to flash back to stock and reset your flash counter if you want any hope of warranty coverage. Otherwise you'll be paying for the repair job.

May or may not work, and will only work until a reboot, at which point he'd have to do it again.
If he has warranty, he should send it in. Otherwise, he could crack the case open and inspect the top mic to see if the rubber housing is seated properly. It might be partially blocking the mic.
thanks for trying to help guyss....i did try that before but it didnt help at all

So send it in for repair (hopefully warranty covered), or try to do phone surgery yourself. Those are really your only options.
I have exactly the same issue. Top mic is not working and even replacement of the board with mic, vibro-motor and mini-jack did't helped. I've realised that the problem is with a condensator or a chip on the main board. I also would like to find the modification wich can change top mic to the lower one. Please, if anyone knows how to do it, let me know.

Serious microfone problem

Hi all
Am I the only one experiencing microfone problems on my new galaxy S3?? Im on my third I9300, because of this issue...
People complaining about that the mic vol goes up and down...
I'm also facing similar issues. I'm going to get mine replaced also.
First of all guys make sure 100% it's not the mic. Record some song and see if you still have the problem. I was facing similar issues with the mic going up and down durring calls.
In my case it was the simcard. Don't ask me why, because the same simcard was working fine in another phone, but after getting a replacement everybody said that they can hear me a whole lot better.

I am going through the very same issues.
I had a mic problem with my first S3 during phone calls. It was really annoying me because I couldn't do anything about it everyone was saying they couldn't hear me etc.
The sim I am using is an British UK O2 micro simcard that I used in a iphone 4, cheap samsung, and samsung S2 previously with no problems at all.
I then returned the phone to the T-mobile shop retailers, they said it was rare and not a common fault.
My new one is doing the exact same thing, I didn't update it nor is there a new update.
Can someone please help. Thank you.
I am getting the same issue but not everytime. I am sure that it is not the fault in mic that is causing this problem, as i recorded my voice (using both mics, the one at the top and at the bottom) and it was crytal clear.
turn off Noise Cancelling... fixed my problems
same problem
Had the same issue ,also with the s 2 , but the trick then (witch also worked now ) was to turn off the noise cancellation .
During a call just take the phone away from your ear and under the callers picture there u will find the option to do so
I have literally just started having the same issue today.
Am on FoxHound Rom 1.4 with Siyah Kernel. Had no problems, even made calls last night, perfect.
Then I tried switching Fast Dormancy on, flashed stock kernel and this morning I find when I made calls to Orange customer services, they were saying they couldn't hear me.
Tried testing it myself, and no matter who I call no-one can hear me.
I've tried:
re-flashing rom, kernel
Tried latest stock roms such as I9300XXBLG8_I9300OXABLG8_I9300XXLG8_HOME.tar.md5, none have made a difference. Even Roms I had backed up in clockworkmod that were working perfectly, like CM10 preview and CM9 have stopped working.
I've tried disabling Noise reduction, which has had no effect. Tried factory reset, flashing modems, kernels, roms, stock roms, nothing has made a difference. I can record video, google talk, anything else fine, just not get anything from the mic when making phone calls.
Tried putting a friends 3 SIM in, and the same thing, so it's definitely not network related either. I definately hope it isn't a hardware fault, as I bought mine on ebay and it isn't insured. Was kinda hoping for more than 2 mores usage out of a phone :crying:

Have you tried another ROM, restore backup etc. In short, what measures have you taken on your own to troubleshoot this problem.
- yes, the phone uses another means/ Mic when you are using loud speaker

Unfortunatly i was out of the country when it happened so i was never able to claim warranty on the phone or anything so i've had to live with it.
I have tried everything i can think of to try and fix it. Different ROMS, diferent kernals, different modems. nothing has fixed it.
One thing to note, is that when i have headphones in, the mic is fine. Would the be some trickery i could pull to make the phone always use the loudspeaker microphone, even when in handset mode.
current rom is paranoid android 1.99 w/ dorimanx kernal.
i think that lower mic is used when speaker is off , but in speaker phone it uses the the upper mic.

Sorry about that.
Your own case looks like a definite hardware issue. Too bad you are out of country but if you can still visit any Samsung service center, you might be lucky. Those guys are always very nice and helpful to customers in my country even if you are out of warranty.

I've not flashed a newer ROM to see if is that yet as its my wife's phone and I've not had time to back it up before I flash.
I have the same phone and not had this problem
I've also posted in the neat ROM thread and no one has had the same issue
So if there is two mics do you think it could be broken

Since its your woman's phone and you can't probably flash a new ROM at this moment, fine.
I'll say, let's assume it's as hardware issue.
I'll advise flash back your stock original or officially update firmware, And just send it to service center for repairs like normal warranty claim.
Good luck

ok guys still need some help with this
things ive now tried
flashed back to stock
taken phone apart and made sure the mic is plugged properly
got a new mic and swapped the over

but it says that the menu is blocked
but even if that was the problem surely you would be able to hear my voice a little bit

Cannot be heard over internal mic

A weird thing happened to me:
After installing CM11,no one can here me over the internal mic,and I can only be heard when I use the speaker.
Sometimes,I can be heard very low, sometimes regularly, and sometimes not at all.
All other mics and speakers work just fine,as I can hear everything, from music to videos, but face the exact same problem when recording audio(when on heavy metal vocal lessons ),and when trying to send a voice message over What's App.
Have tried flashing older Jelly Bean roms, using Odin, and have temporarily been able to solve the problem, only finding out the problem persists after a random number of days, differs from rom to rom.
Have been to 3 labs here in Israel, and every time the claim is that the phone is fine,or that it's not a mic problem, but an audio chip one, which is pretty expensive to solve.(not that I mind spending on it,as buying a new decent phone here is double to three times the repair)
The thing is,every time I flash a new rom,a new modem,add a DSP manager,the phone is just fine,at least for a couple of hours,to a few days.
Been thinking it's a software, rather than a hardware issue,so am here to consult with you.
Should I:
1.Flash a stock rom again, but try one that's been altered for the Israeli user?
2.Flash CM12 Beta,in hopes a lollipop would keep fix it....
BTW:
Is flashing with Odin like wiping the system and data partitions?
I've been using numerous roms over the years, from ICS to Kitkat.
Never ever have I faced such a weird problem......
Thanks in advance and best regards,
Yohai.
I'm also having the same issue....
Some others also have the same issue...See the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/confused-t2777776
I did forum search...Many seems to have this issue...And the problem is still un solved
I also checked if its hardware...But the phone repair guy is saying everything is fine with the mic...
Someone needs to seriously check this problem...
Currently on NEAT ROM v6.4 (4.1.2)...Few hours of usage, the mic is still working...

I don't know a stock rom that has been modified by an israeli user. You should try flashing neatrom lite first by Sale. CM12 beta won't improve anything (although it might). Most problems regarding to phone calls are to do with flashing 4.4.4 roms, most of them are caused by not flashing roms properly. Reverting to older version of android will (most of the time) solve your problem.

Did the issue happen with stock samsung rom? If no, you might have to use that.
SOLUTION!!!
Today,I went to a lab, which came out to be not the cheapest, but the most professional:
Seams out,the problem was with the mic itself, and the best solution was to replace the entire charging flat.(the mic is just a part of it,and in order to avoid future problems,it is best advised to replace the flat itself, not just the soldered mic)
After going to eat and returning an hour later-problem solved!
This just shows you,how some "professional" labs are hiring retarded technicians.
All you have to do is listen, and think SIMPLE!!!
Cheers and thanks for answering!!
In hope of contributing something to XDA's community,
Yohai.

One query
Charging flat means - the board containing the mic, charging socket etc..?
And what's the price for that?

Flat=Board,yeah.
Here,we call it a "flat",I guess 'cause it's a flat board.....
The price?150 NIS,others charge about 90-129 NIS.
How much is it in $?
150 NIS= about 42$
I'm beginning a course,next week,which will qualify me as a Mobile Technician.
Sadly,I couldn't replace the flat myself,as I have no knowledge on how to do it,but if I knew, the board itself would have cost me about 30 NIS+VAT.
See the big difference?
Knowledge=Money,my friend.
Peace!
Yohai.
