How to unlock phones. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I got a simple question: How to unlock phones, specifically CricKet phones. I want to learn to do this. Is there a FREE program to do this? If not, can I do it manually?

1. You need the unlock code for the device.
2. Enter the code.
Are you looking for the place to put the unlock code into the phone? Have you tried putting in another SIM card? My tablet just asked for the unlock code when I did that.

But, not all phones are GSM meaning not all use SIM card. What about CDMA phones, the ones that don't use SIM card?

Same for CDMA. You need a code.

I meant reflash it for another carrier other than the one it came on originally.
Anyway, once the new Qualcomm chip drops later this year this should become almost a non-issue.

What I've seen or learned so far is that you need to buy Flashing Programs but I would want one for free.

Thinking of purchasing this phone

I just sold my Wildfire Buzz, which I successfully rooted.
Soo I think the ACE is logical and cheap upgrade for me.
Just wondering if I root this phone will it unlocked (from the three network)too or is that something separate?
And is their anything I should look in regards to this mobile?

Seriously, it's a very good handset, with a growing dev community. Worth to buy on my opinion.
Ah,no troubles after rooting, it will be simply more powerful!

Nothing changes on network side....
Just beware not to grant network access to any app to avoid unwanted network connections. Also use apn droid widget which will switch off any connection.

Make sure you're rooted. It won't work otherwise.
Make sure your rooted! Go to market search SGS unlock, find the one from helroz. Follow it step by step. I unlocked my vibrant and captivate with it. Then get sim from other provider put it in reboot. You might have to go in to settings mobile network search and select network.

I can't say it'll be easy without a computer but if you use Mobile-Odin and flash this. It'll install SuperSU and ClockWorkMod but I'd recommend holding off until you have a computer (its just easier on a computer)
Also, you won't magically achieve 3g speeds on your phone if you root it.. You may want to research into that a bit more before you take this plunge unnecessarily.
Ok ill wait. I had a s2 that I rooted. Do u know how I can get 3g speeds. I have researched this and havnt found ne thing

Your phone supports 3g right out of the box.. Maybe your carrier has restricted your service to 2g or you don't have coverage in your area.
No, you can`t root your phone from the phone afaik and Mobile Odin needs root before you can use it

Yes, you can, read my reply
Of course the device needs to be rooted for Mobile Odin to work. Quote from the dev:
"Your device must be rooted to be able to use Mobile ODIN"
Otherwise it would mean that ANY app can simply overwrite or rewrite your firmware which in itself would be a major security risk.

That's exactly the way I did it.
-Rooted with exynos abuse 1.40 (phone was on 4.1.1)
-installed mobile odin for flashing recovery and kernel
After that I could do everything out of CWM.
So my S3 never saw a pc

Does any one have a link to exynos? And I'm running stock 4.0.4 right now. Also I know unit really supposed to ask and is your own preference but I'm just curious what are the more popular stable roms out there. I like themes a lot lol. But I want one that has decent battery stats and can boost my Internet speed. I know that's possible bc a guy at a phone store had his rooted and on cincinnati bell and he had a lot my options than me.

That is all you can do when you "unlock" your phone. You remove sim card based carrier restrictions. Once unlocked you can take an att phone and put in a tmobile sim and it might work! But that's all it can do.
You might be thinking of giving your phone "root access" if you want to do more. Once you root a phone you can remove preinstalled software or bloat. You can install custom roms. You can enable tethering when you might not of before... and so on.....
Rooting and unlocking are two different things. I hope this answers your question.

Unlock My One

Hello. I need to know, how I can unlock the One. I bought a few days ago One of AT&T by Swappa, locked to AT&T, I checked the price of unlock code, and came out between 5 to 30USD. I received it last night, and immediately buy the code for 13USD. I get the code, and to apply the code rejects me; incorrect code. By insecurity, buy another code, and this time came over twice. It was faster, but the result? the same code, and the same result ... Wrong code. What I can do in this case? I hope your help, thank you very much
Cheers
Just call AT&T and tell them you are going over seas for a few weeks. They will give you the code no problem. I've done it 4 times. You can just open a chat box on their site.
Why do people pay for unlock codes???

I pay for the code, because I live in Chile xD
Although estimated, thank you very much, but in another thread helped me with something so silly, like leaving the stock ROM. used the Google Edition (I used multiple computers with customs and stock ROM, but never happened to me before)
Thank you very much again

Yes, the truth is that I suck at English, so everything I write illegibly translate it by Google translate ... I do not even understand what I say sometimes
Which web site did you buy the unlock code from ? I'll help you out with the unlock process.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
1. The phone has to be STOCK (original rom) for unlock to work.
2. You need to put a foreign SIM in it (i'm guessing since you're in chile) you have.
3. When you turn it on it should ask you for the code. If that doesn't work. Check #1.
I would go to the dev/Q&A section and find the stock AT&T HTC ONE RUU to revert the phone to stock to make sure that it is.
