So I just unlocked my phone and was wondering the benifets. I know that I can use other networks like ATT Rogers Bell etc. But can someone explain in detail what I can do?

That is all you can do when you "unlock" your phone. You remove sim card based carrier restrictions. Once unlocked you can take an att phone and put in a tmobile sim and it might work! But that's all it can do.
You might be thinking of giving your phone "root access" if you want to do more. Once you root a phone you can remove preinstalled software or bloat. You can install custom roms. You can enable tethering when you might not of before... and so on.....
Rooting and unlocking are two different things. I hope this answers your question.

I figured you knew what rooting was because you have a decent amount of posts. I just wrote it so anyone uneducated would understand a lil better.

I just sold my Wildfire Buzz, which I successfully rooted.
Soo I think the ACE is logical and cheap upgrade for me.
Just wondering if I root this phone will it unlocked (from the three network)too or is that something separate?
And is their anything I should look in regards to this mobile?

Seriously, it's a very good handset, with a growing dev community. Worth to buy on my opinion.
Ah,no troubles after rooting, it will be simply more powerful!

Nothing changes on network side....
Just beware not to grant network access to any app to avoid unwanted network connections. Also use apn droid widget which will switch off any connection.

Same question here. Mine will get here on Tuesday...I do know there are a bunch of methods to sim unlock i9100 though.
So... long story short, the GS2 still uses nv_data.bin files like on the GS1.
Of course, Samsung has encrypted/obscured plain text access to the unlock codes within this binary file. However, I do believe the folks over on the i9100 forum have figured it out, so it's probably not going to be too much of a stretch to get the AT&T GS2 to work too.
The phone literally just dropped though, so give people a few days to actually get the devices in their hands, get nice stable root and all that (already done maybe even), and from there, carrier unlock will come.
Or, if you're the impatient type, and don't mind the chance of screwing something up, try some of the methods from the i9100 forum and see if they work!
I used the galaxy s unlock app from helroz, worked like a charm. Can't post a link but it's on the market.

That's awesome. May I ask whether you had rooted your S2 before you ran the unlock program?
Thanks a billion.

Yup, rooting is required to unlock.
Sorry, I'm fairly new to the term "unlocking" phones. Does this mean that you can use with any carrier? Is there anything else that "unlocking" a phone does that a normal one can not?
Thanks in advance!

I recently bought my galaxy note i717m from Bell in Canada and unlocked it with network unlock code purchased on internet. Then, I got someone from kijiji to root my phone and upgraded from ics to jb and made the phone to work with wind/mobilicity. I am now using a wind sim card on my phone but i found out that the jb system is very buggy and crashed too often, Anyone knows how to downgrade jb to ics or recommend a more stable jb rom? Does downgrading to ics or changing to a new rom will make my phone not supporting wind/mobilicity anymore? I dont know anything about android btw, anyone kind enough to write me a simple guide? Thanks a lot!

how to check?
Okay restart the phone by pressing power+ volume up and down at the same time until you see the first Samsung logo tht will take you to recovery that's is how you will see. Seems like you are new to this. Most of all the jb roms out there are good but buggy and also battery drainers I speak of past experience long story short if you want stability keep stock ics until jb is officially released...

Nice guide, thanks so much! However, my phone was bought from BELL store in Canada, does it the same stock rom as AT&T? When it was bought, it was locked to bell, unrooted and only support 1900/PCS frequency, does not support 1700/AWS frequency till I got someone from kijiji to help me turn on the AWS radio frequency support in the phone by flashing rom, rooting and stuff. If I follow your guide, would my phone get locked and lost support to AWS frequency?

Well it's not much of a guide if you all do is provide links to other people's guides. Actually the most complicated part, rooting the phone, is the only one you don't even include links for.
Of course I think the biggest issue with your whole guide is that the SCH-1545 is already Carrier Unlocked, so this is all completely unnecessary anyway.

well i get what your saying but iy wouldn't accept my att simcard before i did that method and its up and running, carrier unlock for overseas but not in the USA i try to make a better guide ok
I liked the swiftness and adequacy! Loaded to say the least.
The SCH-i545 is not simlocked. You can use any SIM that you want once you configure the APN.
There's no guarantee that any or all providers will work, since different providers use different bands. However, the agreement between VZ and the FCC requires that VZ not lock their phones.
Rooting for new 4.4.2 version of Verizon S4
Will this work for the new version of 4.4.2?
This is probably a stupid question but hey, can't hurt to get some input.
I have recently found myself in possession of an AT&T Galaxy Mega. I have T-Mobile as my carrier so have no intention of using the built in 4G from AT&T. Can I flash a T Mobile rom and baseband to it? I assume this will brick it and I am better off just leaving it be and using it as a plain wifi-only tablet but want to verify with the experts.
I am no novice to flashing/roming and the occasional brick recovery
Sorry, but you can't flash ANY rom to the ATT Mega. No one has been able to unlock the bootloader.
But, I'm sure, if you search, you will find folks are using a t-mobile sim in the ATT version.

Yeah, was hoping a stock rom from another carrier wouldn't need an unlocked loader. Ah well,, am rooted and just waiting for the official 4.4 then.
