[Q] Problem flashing bootloader - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this question is already asked, but I searched the forums and could not find it.
But I have a problem/challenge with flashing a bootloader using Odin.
I have the following:
Galaxy Tab P7510, rooted and Galaxy Task13 rom flashed (I did this before I got a Windows 8 OS)
Laptop running Windows 8
Odin 1.85
Installed USB drivers (I think)
I wanted to go to the JellyBean rom. So I looked at the following thread:
[ROM][P75xx][JB][4.2.1] CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly Discussions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074202)
I did the following:
- I flashed updated CWM using Mobile Odin
- Then I downloaded the bootloader from the thread.
- I downloaded the USB drivers from the following page: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_p4wifi
- I tried to install these downloaded drivers, but it gave me some problems with compatibility using windows 8, I got a option to install it using a "compatibility mode". I choose this option and the USB driver seemed to install correctly (I got the installation and could install it without any shown problems/errors).
- I opened Odin3-v1.85
- I powered off the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and connected the USB adapter to the computer but not to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
- I booted the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 into download mode by holding down Vol Down while connecting via USB
(according the instructions from here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_p4wifi)
Here the problem starts, I cant seem to connect the Tab with the USB. At least if I look at the Galaxy Tab I continuously have the message "connect USB cable". If I look at Odin I don't see the ID:COM become blue or green and see don't see the word added (what in my opinion seems to be meaning that the Tab is not connected with my laptop).
I tryed several things to see if that would work, I mean changing the order of how to connect the Tab to the laptop. But I did not have any success.
I remember when rooting and flashing the Tab before, it was very easy to connect the Tab with Oding to the PC/Laptop, but now I don't have any success.
Could it be that there are problems with using Windows 8 (unfortunately I don't have a Windows 7 PC/laptop available to me the coming week).
So the question is if any of you guys that are more handy in these things got any idea what I am doing wrong and more important got any idea how to fix it.
Hope to hear from someone soon.
Thnx in advance.

Upgrade to Windows 7 and you'll be fine.
Does your system see anything when you plug in the tablet? You should at least get some indication that it's recognizing it.
If you bring up the Device Manager (Windows-X key, or Control Panel/Hardware/Device Manager) does the device show up?
(I'm thinking there may be some problem with the cable. I've been burned by that in the past.)

I am just in the progress of indeed installing Windows 7 again.
When I plug in the Tab into this laptop (old one running ubuntu) I dont see anything happening, but the Tab does charge.
So I will wait a few mins again and try it with Windows 7.
Thnx for the reply.

Ok Windows 7 installed and tried again, still no luck.
Still no connection with laptop.
I looked at the device manager and although I don't know where exactly to look I don't see any difference if the Tab is plugged in or not.
As I said, charging seems to be working fine when plugged in the laptop and also when connected to a wall socket.
Hmmm, ok, next step I am gonna buy a new cable and see if this will fix the problem.
Will update when I bought the new cable.

Have you enabled USB Debugging in Developers Options?
Also, did you check MTP in Settings-Storage-menu at top right corner-USB Connection.
Until these are done the laptop will not recognise your tablet at all.

USB Debugging was/is enabled.
Also, did you check MTP in Settings-Storage-menu at top right corner-USB Connection:
Dont know how to do this as I cant find this option, if I go on my Tab to Settings-Storage I dont see this option.
I am not on a stock ROM, but on Task14 Slim ROM.
But when I connect my Tab via usb to my laptop, I get the message in the bottom bar that "USB is connected" and that "MTP is connected". Although I dont see anything happening on my laptop.

If you see "MTP is connected" means the option is already enabled. If autoplay did not work you may not see any action. Open my computer and see if you will find your sdcard mounted as a portable device. Open it.

No I do not see any "extra" device in "my computer" when I connect the Tab.

Windows 8 or Windows 7, you should be able to see the device. I recommend going into device manager and deleting the drivers (the option to delete is in the window after selecting uninstall).
Grab these drivers and try http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/GT-P7510MAYXAB
I use them for my Samsung devices and have no issue ODIN seeing my devices in Win 7 or 8.

I did as you said but also with those drivers no succes.
Then I downloaded drivers from the Thai Samsung support site (KiesSetup), because I am in Thailand.
But this was more of a sync program with USB drivers also implemented.
But here also no succes.
Now I am going to the Mall and see if I can buy a new USB cable and hopefully this will solve my problem.
Thnx for the reply's!

Ok, I got a new cable and I can connect the Tab to the laptop again. I am doing some file transfers now and then I am gonna try to flash the bootloader and after that flash the new CM10.1 ROM. Hmmm could as easily just see for a new Nightly the other one is already 2 a 3 days old.
I just used the USB drivers from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_p4wifi
Thnx all for the help.
SOLVED
The problem was the cable, I bought a new cable and I just flashed the bootloader with Odin.
This is how I remember it to be working. Easy, simple and fast!!!!
Again everyone thnx for your idea's/help!!!

You can download just the drivers from here.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/GT-I9100LKAXEU-downloads
Choose software and then its the 2nd listing. You wont need to install Kies as well then. I have had no problems using these under Windows 8.

Which option in Odin?
Hey,
Could you tell me which option did you use in Odin to flash the bootloader? Was it the PDA slot or Bootloader slot?
Thanks

[Q] SGH-i717 incompatible with 64-bit operating systems??

I'm trying to use my 64-bit windows laptop to install the recently leaked ICS update on my SGH i717. Which as of now is only available as a .exe file. The problem is (confirmed by samsung tech support) that the i717 is incompatible with 64-bit windows, and isn't even recognized by my computer. Is there any way to remedy this? I do not have access to any 32-bit machines, and I really want this update!! Thankyou.
I installed the leak via the Odin exe. on my 64 bit machine with no problems.
Really? I can't even get my computer to recognize my phone, not even as usb storage. I've installed and reinstalled every driver I could find. I've even plugged it into a couple different computers. The best answer I could get was that it was because of the my windows version from the samsumg tech support woman. Is there a special driver out there or am I missing something?

Just install dagr8's saurom ICS. It's flashable via CWM and located in dev section.

I don't have a problem with my 64 bit system recognizing and mounting my i717. It didn't work at first, but it turned out that my stock samsung data cable was faulty. Used a different cable and haven't had an issue since.

Well I tried a few chords. Is there any root methods that I can do from the device without a computer?
Download the latest Kies.
Let it install and make sure you select the USB drivers.
Uninstall Kies because it's ****.
Leave drivers.
Replug handset (make sure debugging is on)
This should put you in the clear mate. If it doesn't, get the Android Development Kit for the proper ADB drivers
Go to shop development, look for the pre root kernel, download USB drivers. It works, but your computer doesn't have the drivers for the phone

You don't need to download kies. Just install these drivers;

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll keep trying
That's a damn lie. I have a new 27" iMac with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installed on it. I have successfully connected my Galaxy Note to the computer, every time.
There is a problem with how to get the computer to recognize your phone, that I never had with any of my HTC phones... With my HTC EVO's, all I had to do was connect my phone to a USB, and a bunch of options would automatically pop-up, asking me how I wanted to use my phone. I'd select the option to use my phone as a 'USB Storage Device,' and a few seconds later, my computer would automatically recognize my phone.
You can't seem to do it this way with Samsung phones. What you have to do, is:
MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS NOT ALREADY CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER VIA USB!!! This is a must! Your computer will not recognize your phone if it's already connected BEFORE following the other steps.
Go to SETTINGS.
Select the first option (WIRELESS AND NETWORK).
Then you must select USB UTILITIES.
A screen saying "USB Mass Storage" will pop-up, and there will be a button you have to press stating, "CONNECT STORAGE TO PC."
Upon selecting "Connect Storage to PC," then and ONLY THEN, you will finally connect your phone to the USB.
If you follow these steps, after a few seconds, your computer will download any necessary drivers, and eventually it will recognize your phone. I am not sure why it's this difficult to do this on Samsung phones. Like I said, HTC phones are really simple. It doesn't matter when you connect the USB on HTC phones. Samsung, you can only connect it at a certain time. I hope this works for you.
I also run Windows 7 64 on my laptop, and have no problem with my Note. Odin, files transfers, Kies, everything works.
Steve
I used to use my old pen 4 desktop(one im typing from now) to do all my phone modding... When I bought my galaxy I thought that this machine was too sketchy and decided to use my win7 64bit xps laptop... Flawless.
Okay, so the samsung woman gave me the wrong information. Thanks Dr. Evo. I tryed your technique with no success. I haven't had any luck with anything. Could this possibly be a problem with my device? I'm considering a trip to the at&t store.
same here....
Funny... I'm now having the same issue on my laptop.... It connects fine to my 2k8 R2 x64 Server just fine. That one is an old and heavily upgraded Dell D9100 tower. I'm pretty sure I got it recognized on my ASUS U43J Bamboo laptop with Win7 Pro x64 when first got the phone. I've since reimaged and did a fresh install of the OS and drivers, and I'm certain that I reinstalled all the drivers and updates.
Tired the drivers built into KIES 2.0 - fail
Tried the USB_Driver_for_ATT_I717_Galaxy_Note_v1_3_2200_0 driver I used on my 2k8 server - fail
About to try some other drivers I found here. If something works, I'll report it...
***UPDATE***
Before trying any other drivers I decided to try one more thing...
With the phone connected via USB, shut the phone down, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. On my laptop, PnP found three devices and installed the drivers when the phone powered on:
SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device
SGH-I717
SAMSUGN Mobile USB Modem
Kies 2.0 then saw the device... still sitting there saying "Connecting..." but at least I'm one step further...

I'm sorry my advice didn't help. I honestly have no idea what your issue could be. Are you still within your 30-day return window? If you were, I'd ask for a replacement phone, or if you bought your phone at an AT&T Store or BB, ask if anyone in the store has the ability to connect your phone to a laptop or computer in the store to see if they can get it to work.
For me it worked on 2 different Win 64 installs.
Here is what I did:
Install Kies. On the phone go to settings>apps>development and then check on USB debugging.
Phone connects perfectly. You can see the phone listed as a device in my computer. Clicking on it allows you to access both the USB storage and SD card.
To other poster saying you NEED to enable USB storage. You don't. It works in MTP mode.
Unplug all other usb hardware. Try another jack and cable. Don't use a hub. All virus and firewall software should be off. Log on to windows update with the phone plugged in and turned on. You might have to reboot and check again.

Can't connect to pc

My galaxy tab 10.1 is on 3.2 honeycomb official. Its not rooted and its 3g version
My tab would not connect, i have searched for many forms, i could not find the solutions.I have done factory reset twice and have reinstalled kies twice also. My problem still persist. When i connect my tab to my laptop which is running on Windows 7. Three thing happens
1. Some time it will show mtp initializing and then it shows usb connected (mtp connected). No where is galaxy folder on my computer is found. When i go to devices and printer. No galaxy tab icon is shown.
2.Some times, galaxy tab charges only, there is no mtp instializing like 1 scenario etc
3. Nothing will happens. No mtp instializing or no charging
Lastly i have tried on my destop computer and another laptop but the problem still persist
Help would be appreciated.
I would backup my files and factory reset the tab. Should help.
i have done factory reset twice
Make sure debugging is unchecked.. What version of windows are you running?
I find that my tablet will not recognize on XP or Window 7 since I have owned it. (Google I/O bought in July of last year) Once I installed CM9 it would then be recognized through Macbook Pro Android transfer.. (something like that. I sold the Macbook awhile back) I resort to Dropbox.. Its a *****.. But I don't complain and I stream most of my files anyway...

I often connect my tablet to my Win7 PC so I can copy TV shows from Media Center to the tablet. Sometimes the PC doesn't recognise the tablet unless I power down the tablet and turn it back on again. No idea why though.
follow this
download samsung 7510 usb drive, then download kies and last download windows media 11. if your xp its not original, follow some tutorial on youtube about how to install windows media player 11.
i has this issue with windows xp few days ago..

Actually you can. I don't know how he did it but if you want to know here's what I did.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15693193.
You can root through an update.zip, flashed from the stock recovery (at least for the 3g version). After that install rom manager and flash cwm. Finally download cm9 or aokp or everything else you want and flash away!
Btw, I have no problem connecting to PC. I just did it that way.

[Q] Windows 7 "SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device" failed installation

Hi
For some reason I am now getting a Driver Installation Failure error for my S3 when I plug it in to USB on Windows 7. The driver is SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device, which fails after a long (3 minute or so) install attempt.
This means I can't access the Phone via USB for file tranfers etc, either Windows Explorer or Keis. Though I can use ODIN to Flash if I put the Phone in Debug Mode.
I have tried all sorts. Un-installing the Samsung Drivers, rebooting and reinstalling, and getting Kies to try a driver repair.
It wasn't like this when I started with the phone. Something changed - after I rooted it. I am currently on the Omega ROM 6.0 with standard kernel. For a while I was on 5.1 with Syloa 1.1 and then 1.26. I realized it was wrong when I couldn't copy Omega 6.0 ROM ZIP over to Flash.
I have searched and searched. This seems to have happened to other phones as well but be intermittent. A few other phone on XDA have reported this in the last couple of weeks (so maybe a Microsoft change to Windows 7?)
As a weird related issue sometimes when I plug the Phone into WIndows now I get two removable drives showing, which are "Samsung USB Gadgets" using a 2006 Microsoft Driver... They show as removable drives with no drive in them. Again all my tricks of disabling uninstalling, re-installing etc these seem to make no difference.
Anyway - any ideas / fixes help appreciated!!!
Cheers
So here is the cure. First connect your phone to your pc. Now right click my computer and select manage. Go to device manager and expand the universal serial bus controllers tab. Now you should see something like unknown device with a yellow exclamation mark. Right click it and select uninstall. Now reconnect your phone and try it.
Now again check in device manager after installation. It should look like the one in the attachment.
I've got the same issue; can't get the MTP drivers to work on my Win 7 machine or my work XP box. Both had the Galaxy nexus drivers on them previously (I think, came from ICS Captivate).
Are you sure USB debbuging is unchecked in settings?
If that's not the problem, you could try a different pc or os (a live ubunt cd for instance) to see whether it's the phone or the computer thats messed up.
Fresh windows 7 install and still nothing. Could the phone be messed up?
Have you tried a different USB port?
Yeah tried all the ports/cables I've got lying around. In safe mode it will install everything okay but Kies still won't connect. :/

Did you also back up your efs folder using SGS Toolkit 2.0?
I seem to have had the problem after flashing the "insecure image" which one has to do using the SGS Toolkit in order to backup efs.
Ive also uninstalled and reinstalled pretty much EVERYTHING, drivers, Kies, SGSToolkit etc...
I have 5 pc's at home. ALL of them cannot connect to my SGS3, and ALL could connect to my SGS2 a couple of days ago!

This may work in other situations, but I have found out what caused my MTP to start working again, and it is NOT the computer, it is the phone for 100% sure.
I had this issue on 5 PCs in my home, ALL of which worked fine with my SGS2.
I did a factory wipe, wiped dalvik, and re-installed Omega v6 rom, and it now works on all 5 computers.
I do not know why it started, but the thing I did before the problems started was to use SGSToolkit v2 to flash an "insecure image" so I could backup efs folder. I have a feeling it is related to this, but I do not know for sure, and the maker of that software says 20000 people have used his software without this issue, so it cannot be his software.
Anyhow, by reflashing omega, and wiping the phone, it now works.
Mark.
Worked for me too.. It was the phone.
Mark,
Thanks. I too had Omega 5.2.
I wanted to upgrade modems but found I couldn't connect via PC as I had lost Root.
I too downloaded Version 2.0 of the tool kit and downloaded the insecure kernel and flashed it.
After that I could not get any PC to recognise the phone.
I got Omega 6.0 on wirelessly
But connection problem remained.
So your full wipe worked. The phone is now behaving and connecting to any PC I try.
Thanks
Geoff
Possibly the USB cable?
I ran into this issue as well. When I connected my phone to my (Win7Prof64) computer, the OS recognized and downloaded the drivers and my phone's directory came right up. When I tried the same the next day - I received the "unknown device" message. After about an hour of troubleshooting I learned something interesting - I was using a different USB cable than the one I received with my phone. I connected the USB cable I got with the phone and everything automagically worked again. The USB cable must use another wire that "regular" USB cables don't? Here's a chat with Samsung support regarding the cable:
Gavin: Yes, the USB cable supplied with the device is Samsung recommend and is the Original. So, we request you to use the USB which is supplied with the device.
Doug: will i damage the device at all if i use a different cable to simply charge the device?
Gavin: No, it will not damage the device while charging.
Gavin: But, it can face some issues in connecting in mass storage mode.
Hope this helps!
Here's what I found about about my problem.
Samsung Galaxy S3 does not like USB 3.0 ports on my laptop.
Plugged the phone into the USB 2.0 port and it worked perfect.
Hope this helps out some of you!
The same device on Win7 OK, on XP not.
4 me it happen after Android upgrade to ICS 4.0.4 but only on XP PC. Win7 found new drivers online automatically.
May be XP is to old 4 ICS
One solution I found here: http://androidforums.com/4819200-post7.html however don't want to hard reset my device
Some body can try driver pack 4 all phones here: http://www.mobiledit.com/downloads.htm?show=14
I had this happen on occasion in the past and just now (moved to new laptop). What I have done that works for me is that you open up the details (where it says that it's installing your device click here for more details) and let it find/install all the drivers. Eventually it will fail with the MTP driver, KEEP that window open. Now unplug the usb cable FROM YOUR PC (don't ask me why but this works 100% from the phone side not always) and then plug in again. You'll see the MTP driver search start again and this time it should install.
FIX
1. Download and install the s3 Toolkit here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
2. Don't run it but browse to \Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit\drivers
3. Run USBDeview and uninstall everything with Samsung or i9300 in the description (right-mouse)
4. uninstall Kies and USB drivers.
5. Disconnect phone
6. Install \Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit\drivers\Samsung_USB_Driver.exe
7. Connect phone.
Tadah!
Solution
Here is the only solution that could resolve the problem for me after days and days of trials and errors.
Just go to device manager and manually install the driver after selecting it from the already available drivers.
over and done.

[Q] Device won't show in Explorer even when USB-Hardware eject icon appears!

For the past few months I've been having problems with my Wifi/3G Tab 10.1 in that it can't be recognised at all by my laptop or my spare laptop in any Explorer-type program or Explorer itself.
I've tried everything that I can think of to fix the problem and just when I thought I'd fixed the problem in that the USB Hardware eject icon is showing up for when you want to remove it safely, the drives aren't showing up now in Explorer or Q-Dir at all!
Frankly, this is bloody pissing me off especially as I need access to the device to recover some files from it, so how can I fix this problem (I can't wait to buy a Transformer Pad Infinity or its next version as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 must be one of the few Samsung devices that I don't like!) as it's got some ebooks and other files that I forgot to transfer to my laptop before I screwed up by deleting certain folders by mistake.
If you have toggled usb debugging with no results the its most likely a driver issue on your computer. An easy work around for now would be to install Airdroid to be able to transfer files off wirelessly.
As for the driver issues what exactly is "everything"? Have you made sure to completely uninstall all Android device drivers? If so how did you do so?
I would recommend using something like usbdeview to uninstall all Samsung and other android devices, then I would reboot and attempt installing again with USB debugging off.

When I previously uninstalled the device drivers, I did so via the device driver option (my OS being Windows 7) available via the Control Panel.
I'll try your advice as well concerning Airdroid and usbdeview.
Don't get me wrong, I love Android as a OS, but when it comes to viewing partitions via a computer, it's just as much a pain in the ass as it is to view an iOS device.
EDIT: I downloaded and am using usbdeview right now and it's saying that the Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device (in this case, my Galaxy Tab 10.1) is connected properly but has no drive letter at all.
Uninstall it using that program with the tablet disconnected, reboot the PC, verify that the tablet is not in USB debug mode and then reconnect it.
Failing all this, repeat the process but prior to reconnecting do a clean install of kies.
By the way, your frustration is understood but its not like the grass is always greener on the other side. I have a nexus 7 that has MTP broken right now due to the latest 4.2 update.

I followed your instructions and it didn't work the first time even though I used usbdeview to uninstall the drivers.
I then reinstalled Kies after rebooting and even though the drivers were installed properly, the device still doesn't show up in Explorer or Q-Dir at all like before.
I am at a loss as to how to help you further. If the tablet is running fine and USB doesn't work with or without USB debugging enabled then it is either a cable issue, port issue or driver issue.

I guess I'll just have to wait until I can get my other laptop fixed to see if I can recover the files from the tablet via Recuva.
In any case, thanks for your help in the meantime as it's most appreciated!

[Q] Mouting issues (MTP)

Hi guys!
I have a rooted international Galaxy S3 (i9300) phone with a custom rom: UltimaRom (version 8.x), and using XXELLA kernel (?) and XXELLA Modem version.
Since a while, I'm trying to manage the files in it (phone memory or sd card) from my computer, simply by using an USB cable (the one given with the phone or even other cables, it doesn't matter) and the standard MTP protocol, which is used by Google since Android 3.0. And, whatever I try to do, Windows doesn't seem to notice anything. In my device manager, nothing appears. Nothing either in the "My Computer" window, it just doesn't "exist". No reaction at all from Windows. The Phone's charging, but this is all it is.
And I have the same problem using another computer (like my own laptop, or my brother's one). All computers are running Windows 8 x64 Pro.
I tried to install, re install, delete, etc. all the phone drivers I have on this computer, tried to install Samsung Kies, tried some "mounting" apps on the Play Store, nothing's working.
What should I do to make it work?
Thanks a lot!
Might be stating the obvious but is your phone set at usb debugging? I have the same issue from time to time but when I unplug and plug back it fixes itself.
Hope you get your stuff fixed soon.

That's odd.. I use Ultima ROM and have updated to 8.1.1. I just checked just to make sure (my last update was done OTA) and yeah, computer recognized phone right away.. heard a little computer sound and everything. I am also running Windows 8
The base changed in v8. If you haven't done a fac reset since then you should try that.
Ok I just tried to make a factory reset, nothing changes...
Oh, and if that can help: when the phone's booting, Windows says "Unrecognized device". When it's booted up, it disapears.
Anyone ?
Drivers...
I used these drivers.
It worked for me...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1564104
Work for me too! THX
Thanks for your help !
Unfortunately it didn't work for me.... :/
Any other ideas ?
Sorry to keep rising this thread but this issue is really annoying... :/
Up
I still have the same problem. No other ideas please ?
? :/
Does Easy UMS work?
Can you connect via adb?
Does Odin recognize the phone?
If no to all of the above, try a different cable / port

Thank you for your response !
- Easy UMS doesn't seem to work, even if the app doesn't show any error on the phone
- How do I connect via ADB ? I tried to connect the phone while it is in Download Mode, nothing appears on Windows or Odin
- As I said, in Download Mode, Odin doesn't seems to recognize anything...
And of course, I already tried to change the cable, the USB port, or even the computer i'm connecting the phone to...
Thanks again for your help
Starting to sound like a damaged micro USB port on the phone possibly, or a driver's problem
Oh, and there's a thing: when I reboot the phone, while the Samsung logo appears on the screen with the short jingle, the PC makes 3 or 4 times a sound like something has been plugged, and showes a "Unrecognized device" warning window. When the boot is finished, and the rom is loaded, everything just disappears and no sound is any longer made by the PC.
Also, please note that when I connect the phone to the PC (using the same PC, cable and USB port of course), the phone charges up just like before, without any problem.
have you tried the old drivers?
search Google for " Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 "
disconnect your computer from the internet
Install the drivers.
don't reconnect to the internet.
connect your phone and let windows find the drivers
