I am on task650's latest 4.2 ROM. When I tried to do a backup it ended with not finding sd-ext and error while generating md5 sum. The back ups are made but will not restore. I have reinstalled, restored to 4.1 and reinstalled, and full wipe and still no luck. I can find no info on hope to fix this. Can CWM be reinstalled? I thought it was in kernel. Could it be that cwm 6.0.2.7 is having an issue? Other wise the ROM itself runs fine.

Yes plenty of space many GB worth. I don't think the Sd-ext is causing the other issue.

There was a version of CWM recovery that kept doing this to me too. Assuming you have adb set up, here's what you do:
(in recovery)
adb shell
cd to backup directory (ex. /storage/sdcard1/clockworkmod/backup/2013-01-13.18.05.19)
md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
Then, reboot recovery and it should work.

It would just be for the one backup. Set up adb. It wil save your butt at least a few times if you are doing stuff on XDA.

Guys,
Over time in flashing roms, playing with different apps, etc. I've built up a bunch of junk on the phone and there are certain items I'm not even sure are safe to remove.
What is the best way to go about completely formatting the phone and starting fresh. Just format the SD card then boot into CWM and factory reset and then flash my ROM again? Will that take me back to a completely fresh install and clean SD card?
I did a search and most results were about cleaning things up for a ROM flash but I'm really trying to totally remove all the junk I don't use anymore. I have all my data backed up on the computer so putting it back won't be a problem. Thanks!

Yeah that should do it. But be careful, I may be wrong, but if you wipe your SD card, wouldn't you loose recovery too? Considering the clockworkmod folder would be wiped? Can someone clarify?

Recovery is kernel dependent, so no. The only concern in wiping the sd is deleting nandroid backups, which you can backup manually on a PC before clearing the sd. I assume the OP is going to take the appropriate measures to backup the files he/she wants.

I've read, but not attempted, that the only way to do what you want is to reflash a stock rom and do a master reset from inside there.
Another recommendation was to unmount/format the SD.

I put nandroids and any files I need to flash on my external sd, then wipe, factory reset, wipe caches, and then format sd. Then I can flash the ROM and other files from the ext sd.

A week ago,I flashed cwm touch recovery(1st time I install a custom recovery on my gs3) with odin.I decided to try out wanamlite so I made a nandroid backup of my ROM(stock 4.1.2) then flashed wanamlite.I had a titanium backup of my data so I could restore it on wanamlite but I forgot to put it on my pc before flashing and wiping data(silly I know lol) so I wanted to restore my nandroid backup so I could make another TB of my data but the restore wasn't successful.I got this error message in cwm touch ''error restoring /data !'' or smthin similar and I got in a bootloop.I tried flashing back stock ROM and wiping data(with sd card) then tried to restore the nandroid again,got the same error.I later found out that titanium backup can restore data from a nandroid.Anyways,I tried to make a backup using TWRP but when I tried to restore it,I got in a bootloop again...what could be the problem ? I never had this problem with my gs2...
TL;DR:restoring a nandroid backup gets me in a bootloop whether I use cwm touch or TWRP.

Yes I backed up to the internal sd card.I backed up once with cwm and TWRP.Btw,when I tried restoring I had to move the backup from pc to phone because I did a full data wipe and the backup was gone(in both times) if that makes any difference.I have made sure the backup was the same size when I moved it to and from my pc.
Did you enable MD5 check? Could it be files damage to cause unsuccessful boot up?

No but why would they be damaged ? and why would it happen TWICE ? anyways,I will try again now with md5 check.
UPDATE:tried out with md5 checking,didn't get any errors but I still got into bootloop :/
if you didn't turn md5 on Before backing up, there's no md5 to compare to, hence no errors.

The problem came when I restored the backup. (Before restoration, I had to reinstall the PhilZ Touch recovery and, from it, I did format cache, format system and format data). I recovered my XXEMA2 ROM with all the apps and configurations I had before, BUT there is no trace of the pictures I had in the internal memory or the files I downloaded.
I tried to repeat the process, but I got the same result.
Does anybody know a solution for this?

Nandroid only backs up your ROM, recovery, apps, app data, etc. and not the data stored in your internal storage.

After going back from 4.2.1 to 4.1.2 you'll have your whole Internal Memory in a folder "0". Find it on your Internal Memory. All your data and files should be there. Just transfer them from folder 0 to root of Internal Memory and all will be like before flashing 4.2.1

EDIT: I was not blind. In the default version of the forum (the classic one) that appears on my Opera Mobile there is not "thanks" button. You need to change manually the versión to 2010 one or higher.

I do have the "0" folder with the old (sub)folders, but all of them are empty :crying:
Maybe it was not a good idea to do format cache/system/data before restoring the nandroid backup... As I thought all data were preserved in the backup, I prefered to delete any trace of 4.2.1 ROM .

Well, that might be the problem. I had also restoring 4.1.2 backup after trying 4.2.1 FW but I didn't do wiping or formating - I just restored backup and there was that 0 folder and all files from Internal were there.

My AT&T Galaxy SII has been working fine on UnNamed 2.2.1 for probably 9 months or more, but I just ran into a weird issue today. After sending a text to someone and hitting the on/off button to turn the screen off, the phone restarted, and now refuses to boot past the Samsung screen. It'll stay on it for 5-10 seconds, go black for a few seconds, and repeat.
I can get into recovery, tried wiping cache, dalvik cache, fix permissions, and it still does the same thing. Fix permissions took quite a while and didn't work the first time. Or I just got impatient. But it worked the second time and didn't fix anything.
Anyway, I mounted the SD to copy my data from the internal SD card. I haven't run a Titanium Backup in a while though. I know I can fix the phone with ODIN, but I was just hoping someone might have another idea to avoid this and avoid losing settings, text messages, etc.

If you can get into recovery, does that mean you can complete a nandroid backup? There's actually an option in Titanium Backup to extract apps from a nandroid backup and restore them in Titanium.
My other thought is a handy little app called Nandroid Manager, which you can find on the Play Store. With it you can restore SMS+MMS messages from a nandroid backup. It also has an option for restoring Apps+App Data, but it doesn't seem as stable as the Titanium option.
As for system settings, I'm afraid you're going to have to set those up again after you wipe and reflash your rom.
Speaking of wiping and flashing...have you considered trying a newer rom? Maybe a Jellybean one?
EDIT: By the way, you don't need to use Odin to flash. Just place the rom .zip on your SD card, and wipe and flash using CWM Recovery.

Edit: might have been due to low disk space - removing a bunch of non essential stuff and will retry.

Are you backing up to internal storage or SD card? Make sure you have about 2GB free on the one you're using, and try it again. If that doesn't work, let me know.
As for a good rom, it depends on what you want. As far as Touchwiz Jellybean, I don't think there's much out there better than ShoStock3. I'm an AOSP man myself, so I prefer SlimBean personally. Task's AOKP is also excellent.
I had selected "backup" which I assume after reading your post is to internal storage, not internal SD card. There was 890MB free on it, and now after trying the backup, it's completely full.
When selecting backup to internal SD card, I get a "Can't mount backup path" error, regardless of if I have /sdcard mounted or unmounted.
After deleting some stuff, it now has plenty of space when I choose the regular backup option. We'll see if it works this time.

Even with almost 9 gigs free, it failed to backup /data.

Yeah, you can try a different kernel, with a newer version of CWM. I would try the latest AJK. As an ICS/Jellybean kernel, you won't be able to use it to boot up, but you'll still be able to boot into recovery and back up/wipe/flash.
Backing up using AJK now. Hopefully this works.

Yes. Just make sure you do a full wipe first. Wipe data/factory reset, clear dalvik cache, format /system. Then flash away!

Don't press "reboot system now" when you want to exit recovery. Power down system then power it on again. It should boot just fine.

Your boot-loop problem might be due to invalid or missing data in /bootdata resulted from your having wiped this partition, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21381141&postcount=1. You can try restoring the data by flashing flashable_fix_bootloop.zip from http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery.

Wiping ROM seems to have the effect of triggering a recovery every boot, which if you had the stock recovery should recover all the device info stored there. I had to use a repart.img sdcard which loaded stock 1.4.2 or 1.4.3 (Search for files and guides). Then I used a CWM sdcard and put custom recovery and ROM back on.

The next likely cause of your problem is missing factory-installed device data (e.g., WiFi MAC address, security encryption keys, etc.) that are stored in /rom and /factory partitions which you stated in the OP you had wiped. Unfortunately I am not aware of any way to recover this original set of individual device specific data.

Yeah I was able to use the thread by Adam to redo my tablet with the normal files for Rom through a SD card boot since the touch was not working.

CWM Bootloop...
Hello all!
It seems I've gotten myself into a bit of trouble with my Nook Tablet. I had been running CM7 for quite some time and finally upgraded to CM10. Very nice! However I landed myself in a CWM boot loop after about a week and have not been able to recover.
First, I attempted to recover back to BN Stock, not knowing that it would not replace CWM with stock recovery. I still have CWM and half of a stock installation (repart.img from bn_142_factory_recovery.zip). From what I understand, the stock BN software is trying to boot to recovery to complete the install, although it was in bootloop before that attempt was made.
Since then, I have tried flashable_fix_bootloop.zip as well as cwm_6.0.2.9_acclaim_recovery_sdcard.img to no avail. I fear that I may have made the mistake of formatting too many things as mentioned at the top of this thread to get into myself here in the first place. What is my next step?

You could try what I tell the poster in the topic "At wits end". In the beginning of the topic I described an easy way to make a notable COM card. You can then jump to the end of the topic and try to use my backup file. I will remove access to that file later today and I don't know if it will work at all but at least it's worth a try.

I've begun the download. From what I understand, this will give me a bootable MicroSD into CM10. If that is correct and it boots as it should, I can then install this image as firmware in some fashion or at least be able to repair the damage done so that I can reinstall CM10?
[Warranty is of no concern. I bought this Nook Tablet in used condition quite some time ago with intent to use CM as primary OS, hence the use of CM7 for well over a year.]

It is a two step thing though with two big downloads. The one from Iamafanof will make you a bootable CM10 card. Either you can use it as it's intended, or just use it to get into CWM recovery where you can go to backup and restore and try to restore the backup I made. Unzip my file first, like I tell the other poster.
Edit:I realized I had goofed up when posting the first backup. I have now put up another download of the whole "clockworkmod" folder in my Dropbox. Link in the "at wits end" topic. but I will only leave it up for a very limited time.

Using Cyanoboot from the bootable card, I am able to boot into SDC RECOVERY. From there I swap the SD card for another containing your your backup folder, navigate to 'backup and restore'/'restore'/'2013-09-17.16.18.21'. Restore process begins okay, but fails with "Error while restoring /system!"
I then went to 'advanced restore' and attempted restoring /boot, /system, /data, /cache, and /sd-ext individually with these results:
/boot = Restore Complete
/system = Error
/data = Error
/cache = Error
/sd-ext = sd-ext.img not found, Skipping restore...

If /boot was successfully restored, that's what matters the most (please, tell me you did NOT erase /rom, because if you did, you're in a really bad situation). You don't need to restore asawi's FULL backup. If the /boot partition is functioning normally now, you should be able to boot into your internally flashed CWM, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe system, then FLASH the ROM and gapps. You should not be experiencing the bootloops anymore (make sure to take out the SD card BEFORE rebooting to internal CWM).
