Updating radios - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

What do we lose by NOT updating radios?

Nothing at all, if you feel you don't need to them don't worry about it. No updates so far have been specific to firmware with the exception of the new touch panel update

Okay cool. I'm only one update behind as I had taken all the OTA's up to the first JB update in December and just rooted to MeanBean s-on about a month or less ago. I tried to get s-off earlier and was having issues.
BTW what got updated with the touch panel???

Need questions answered ASAP, please.

So, I got my HTC Thunderbolt, rooted it, then unrooted it.
Would I be able to install the official MR2 OTA update from "Settings" then reroot my phone? I heard once installing this OTA update, rooting wasn't possible.
Or would I have to go an alternate route of rooting, then flashing an MR2 based ROM?
I'm completely lost, as I'm coming from a Droid X.
Also, what is this MR2.5 I'm hearing about? Is this just a leaked future OTA update?
Thanks in advance!
You could upgrade then root using the current method, but there's no point as it will downgrade you. If you want the OTA and root just root you phone, then flash the radio through hboot and a rooted version of the OTA ROM through recovery.
That's the MR2.5 update. hm, since it's a leak, it might not be 100% stable, correct?
Also, how often is that rooted version of the OTA ROM updated? It's not updated very frequently, is it? Is it just updated when a new OTA update comes out?
No, that's the "Official OTA MR2 Radio". Meaning the one that was pushed out via official over the air update, I've been running it since it dropped, not a single reboot (everyone's experience it different). You are correct on the ROM, only updated when HTC/VZW drop and update.
So, I just rooted my phone. Now I flash the MR2 update, and then the rooted version of the OTA ROM and I'll be good to go?
Why do I even need the rooted version of the OTA ROM? Is that so it'll be able to support the MR2 update?
No, there are many ROMs that support the MR2 radio. Check out the developement section, it will usually say in the OP what radio works with a given ROM. You mentioned updating then rooting so I assumed you wanted to use the OTA. You know what happens when you assume.
So the ROM you directed me to is pretty much stock? Nothing removed, nothing added?
It is debloated and has superuser and busybox (for root access). This one only has superuser and busybox (no bloat removed).

[Q] Updating Firmware on Rooted Device

I have never had the need but I am considering rooting. One item I am concerned about is the ability to get firmware updates after rooting. Do they still prompt/download? If not what do you guys do about this?
NEVER take a firmware update when you're rooted; thats never a good idea. Devs usually get the updates, cook them in the roms, then you would flash the updated rom over your current (if its same) or flash the newly rooted rom. Alot easier than it sounds, you'll get the hang of it. 9 out of 10 times accepting firmware updates will remove root. Just ask the retards that accepted the 2.3 GB update on their Evo 4G lol. Had to wait abt 3 months for root ...

[Q] Return to stock 605.6, unrooted after OTA/firmware update?

I am sure this question is going to be asked, so i am going to ask it.
Lets say that someone did update their firmware with the new hboot and new radio(1/26/2012 update), but now we needed to go back to an " out of the box unrooted stock state ".
I know about the main version thing, and that does not affect me atm, and a little reluctant to move forward with a newer main version yet even i know it can be fixed.
I have not upgraded anything as of yet btw.
I am wondering if the
RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.02.605.6_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1013r_3161E_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_221502_signed.exe
method will work to return your phone to that condition after the 1/26/2012 ota/firmware update?
Or will that not work because if one did the OTA/firmware update the main version will change, forcing you to change the main version back to 605.6 ?
Does new hboot prevent any older RUUs from being applied regardless if main version was changed back to an older one?
Thank You in Advance

I guess I have the same questions.
I've got my third Rezound coming in the mail, since i've been having issues with people not being able to hear me periodically on the other end.
I have the newest OTA, and I guess i'll need to put this thing back in a RUU if possible (unroot, relocked, etc).
I hope someone can answer. Gotta figure a way to get this baby unrooted and stock.
They just put up the newest RUU , which was for the OTA in the vigor collection on the development forum so just run that one and you will be good to go

Coming back to Android assistance

Hey guys, been awhile but i want to come back to Android for awhile. I have had the Evo 4G since release but went to an iPhone for work. If i could have a super quick refresher course I would appreciate it. I'll post below where I'm currently at if I could just get a point in the next step. I know all my stuff is way out dated.
Stock w/goodies 2.01 (not even sure if it's still supported)
Kernel 3.0.8 (not even sure if it's custom or stock to be honest)
baseband 1.12.11.0809
build 2.13.651.1
PRI 2.45_003
PRL 25006
S-Off HBOOT 1.12.222 btw
Yes I am fully aware of the search option but it's so cluttered unless you asked the right questions lol. If I could get a point in the right direction i don't mid doing the leg work. thanks and good to finally be back on Android!!

First of all you have missed a couple firmware updates, but since you are s-off head to captains thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612) and do one firmware update at a time, note that the latest update 3.16 comes without the touch panel driver update this because AOSP Roms and some old TWRP versions don't work with this new touch panel update you need to be on the 3.15 touch panel driver, if you are going to use stock with goodies I suggest you do this update, your touch panel willl be more responsive, by the way you should update TWRP as well the new version is 2.5. Navigation doesn't work on some jelly bean roms on some phones, it just crashes, no fix as of today, use telenav, waze or scout
Stock with goodies is still supported but now by SinisterTensai : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2262907

Take OTA from ViperROM and retain soff/root

I'm currently s-off/rooted running ViperROM. I received the notification that the OTA is ready for download already but haven't taken it. Joelz said that he suggests updating the firmware for when he drops his 4.4 sense 5.5 ROM. I want to update to 4.2.2/sense5 via the OTA to be up to date on "stock", but as i've never taken an ota while on a rom i'm a bit nervous. does anyone mind giving me a hand in taking the update then regaining root/s-off?
