All of a sudden, and for no apparent reason, my gTab is not booting properly. I have to hold the power button for a long time before it powers up, then I get the birds, a blinking TpNTap screen a few times, and then it finally goes black. I have CWM installed and was running Vegan-Froyo stable version until this happened.
A few questions:
1. Is there hope of getting my system and settings/data back? Or shall I assume something got corrupted and will probably have to re-flash a ROM?
2. If I need to re-flash, do I have to go back to stock first, or can I just wipe out my existing ROM/data using the standard procedure, and then install a new one? I was happy with Vegan, but if I have to start from scratch, will probably try the Calkulin-Clemsyn combo this time.
3. I have a partial backup I did with Titanium a few weeks ago. I assume I can restore that after I install the new ROM. Correct?
4. Any other pointers/suggestions?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Boot into cwm (power button and volume +) and wipe data/factory reset. Then reboot your system.

Hey,
I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894 However, after doing the steps fully, I launched ROMManager, becasue I didn't know it wasn't working correctly. So in order to fix it, I tried to restore my phone to the stock rom, by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
I used both the rooted pda and the modem files with Odin. That didn't fix anything either. So then I decided to search a bit more, and figured out that I shouldn't have installed or used RomManager. No big deal, I redid the first guide again. Now that I'm correctly into CWM (the 3 button press way, not RomManager > Boot into CWM) I tried flashing CM7. I can't. I get a pretty long error. It starts with the following:
Assert failed: getprop ("ro.product.device")
I googled that. Turns out CM doesn't support the radio/modem I flashed. (atleast, that's what the problem was with a different phone). How can I go about solving this? I basically just want CM7 running on the S2.
Edit: I was using the wrong CM7 rom. I was able to flash it, but now it just gets stuck at the Galaxy S2 screen with the yellow triangle. Left it there for about 5 minutes with nothing else poping up. Right now I'm going to try a nandroid restore.
Alright. I was able to restore it. I was also able to install the Cognition X2 Mod. I'm still having issues with Cyanogen, but I'll keep trying and looking around the forums.
Fixed. Reflashed the mod twice and it's working.
Which ROM did you flash? Because i was having the same problem. i was able to restore and i'm back to stock rooted.
I installed both cognition and cm7 lastnight.
I'd backup everything first though in CWM Backup
Both times, all I did was copy the .zip to the INTERNAL sd storage, then boot into recovery via (VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER), did data/cache wipe, then install from SD and voila.
I got it working. At first I was flashing the International S2 rom. then I downloaded the rom off the thread in this forum. So it should be all good now.
I am just getting the cyanogen mod 7 logo on loop after flashing.
How do i get back to where i am able to do a restore? Volume up and Power is no longer working. Thanks

VolUp + Power never worked.
VolUp + VolDn + Power... This is documented in MANY places.
Yeah, I got this issue when I tried to flash google apps, then installed cyanogen. To get out of the loop, I cleared everything (wipe) then flashed CM7 twice (there is a new nightly, just got released a few hours ago, fixed bluetooth audio) and then flashed the google apps package. Took a min or two to boot upto the setup screen after that, it took just a few seconds to boot up.

Ah, that it what i meant. I was finally able to get back into recovery mode after trying about 4-5 times and have everything working great. Just couldn't get the ROM manager to work to get google apps so i had to flash that. Am i correct that it should be the old style market and not the one that comes stock?

The g apps file I flashed only had "talk" on it. Once I loaded talk it asked me what other apps I wanted to download from the market. It downloaded and installed those apps.. But once I went to the market place it was the same one as the stock rom.
weird, i still have the old market style. I wonder if there is anyway to update without reflashing.
Hi, I would like to start off by thanking task650 and all of the other dev's for making xda possible. It's great
So I rooted my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 (GT-P7510) and threw task 14 on it. I'm not sure what causes it but sometimes when I boot up my action bar will be gone and I can't get it back unless I reflash or restore.
The first couple times it happened was right after installing a b00sted theme. I tried everything I could think of -- I would restore a previous backup and itd be there but every time I flashed a theme itd be gone upon startup.
And since those themes rock so much I ended up wiping everything, and reinstalling the ROM from scratch again, this time the slim version. I also uninstalled the hide action bar app right after install to make sure it wasn't that. After I did that I installed a theme and voila! It stuck around.
So, today I had the cm9 4.04 ROM or whatever on just to mess around. I was done so I restored my task backup. It booted up but ended up freezing on the lock screen, the action bar was unharmed and in place. I did a hard reset and boom, it's gone again. I have no idea what's causing it but it seems like some data is getting corrupted somewhere.
Stop me if you've heard this before..
Thanks all
Edit: So, just now I rebooted into recovery to check the version (cwm-based 5.5.0.4)and all's I did was boot into recovery from the power menu. I think that's what it's called... It's where you hold power down for a second or two then you get the menu. Yeah, then I selected the reboot device option and upon start-up... No action bar!
Why not try another ROM? A factory reset or a clean flash of the same firmware, then reflash task would probably fix it. Seem's as though your Settings.apk is messed up.
The phone was working great, other than the noise cancelling mic cancelling out my voice, but I thought since the update was available, I might as well do it. Once I got on ICS I was having quite a few issues: overall slower, delay in the screen turning on, hotter battery, longer time to charge, wallpaper would flash on before the HTC screen when booting up, there were more just can't remember right now.
I hear about the Global update and think it may fix some of the problems I was having, but they got worse. Now I still have everything I did before (except maybe the hot battery) Also have 3 new issues now: the screen doesn't come back on when I take it away from my ear during a call, browser goes white when going to a new page and I have to reload the page, can't post on any forums in the browser.
Here's the process I went through getting the Global (copied from another forum that I was updating as I was going)
I downloaded it from android police, got to step 6 of the directions, looked away from the phone to see what step 7 was. The phone vibrated and is now on the screen with the green down arrow and 2 in a circle around it. Says "Updating Software from Verizon Wireless" with a green progress bar. Hope I did it right.
That went through rebooted to HBOOT, pressed vol. up twice. It checked everything. Rebooted. Pressed. Vol. up to install. Upadated everything. Pressed power to reboot.
Took a little while on the white HTC screen, now says "Andoid is upgrading..." "Optimizing application [some number] of 77." I think I did it right.
Just checked and everything is right. Woo-Hoo! Not that I'll ever use global, I was hoping it may have fixed some of the bugs I was having, but no
Also of note, I didn't pull the battery. My case is hard to get off, so I just turned off fast boot and that worked.

What do I do at this point? My phone is getting less usable by the day as I keep noticing all these bugs.
Wipe your phone clean and use the RUU that android police posted today to install the latest patched OTA clean. That's what I'd try anyway.
I'll try that in the morning, thanks. Hopefully all goes smoothly. Still learning how to do things (afraid of rooting, but that's another thread)

There are plenty of knowledgeable members here to walk you through it if you just shoot someone a pm. It's all very simple.
As for your problem, try the ruu hopefully that works I'm not sure about the mic canceling out your voice that might be a hardware problem let's hope not

Stupid person time (I don't believe there are stupid questions)
By "wipe phone clean" then flash the RUU. I get the flashing part, but what do you mean by wipe clean. Is there another step in there or does it automatically happen when flashing? I've only been in recovery once, so I didn't really study the options. On my D2, there was a wipe option.

The RUU should wipe it but you can go into recovery and wipe /data and /system to remove the current rom.
Making sure I got all this right, but won't be trying until tomorrow afternoon. Only at 40% charge and going out of town in the morning and need the phone.
1. Rename the Android Police download to PH98IMG.zip and copy to sd card (don't have to extract anything out like I did on the .1)
2. Boot into recovery (vol. down and power)
3. Let it start flashing (If it starts automatically, how do I get to the wipe /data and /cache options?) I know it should be wiped auto. but I want to do it myself to make sure.
4. Pray to Andy that there's no bugs this time.
You need to boot into bootloader, not recovery, that will happen when you do the battery pull then start it volume down + power. I'm pretty sure the RUU will wipe everything so you should be good.
Problem with newest ICS
The new ICS has a problem with the browser. Links are squirrelly when touched; sometimes
no reaction, sometimes checks every box on the page. Just does not feel right when moving
around on web pages.
Seems ok to me, I'd recommend Chrome over stock unless you need Flash support anyway.
Sorry, I got the terms confused on the terms. I knew it was vol. down and power though
I finally got around to flashing the RUU, all is well so far, will report back if anything changes.
I'm s-off but my bootloader is unlocked. Do I need to relock the bootloader before flashing the RUU.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
There is a tradition on rezounds to always install an RUU two times in a row, then let it boot up normally before installing custom things like hboots, recoveries, or ROMs.
I used to read posts of people saying that it must be done twice to assure everything gets installed right, and to avoid problems.
So, I recommend doing the ruu twice in a row, especially if your phone was not stock beforehand.
Howard
p.s. my favorite browser is opera mobile.
If s-off and unlocked, there is no need to relock to install an RUU.
Turns out I got a little too anxious. I thought stuff was working, but that was just because I was thankful that I installed the RUU right, still new to this. Still having all the same problems though
When you say install twice in a row, should I just try installing it once again tomorrow or twice since I downloaded an app or two?
Also, you say twice, then boot up normally, when I installed this it just booted up after the install was finished. Is there a way to install it again before it boots for the first time?
method
Make sure the Android Police 3.14.605.12 renamed PH98IMG.zip on your sdCard.
Boot up with Volume down, Power to get into hboot. It will ask your permission with a
Volume up and then run the update. I think they mean after 1st boot, answer English,
and get out of setup with No and default until steady. Do a factory reset in Settings,
Storage and boot up again. Then shut her off again and restart as previously to run that
PH98IMG.zip again.
After the next boot up, insert actual information like Google etc. to start Google Play
and fetch your favorite apps. Then you're running 100% stock.
noticed the same thing with in calls. Pull the phone away from your ear and the screen should come back on, but it seems delayed. I usually have to tap the power button twice to get the screen back on.
Running simplistic 3.0 which is based on the newest leak, after flashing the leak.
FWIW I have the issue with the screen not coming back on after pulling the phone away form your ear as well, however I'm on the ICS OTA, not the global.
I never had the problem on the ICS OTA, but I also only had that for a couple of days before getting the global (.1) from Android Police.
In the process of doing the second flash. As per michaels instructions.
I went to Verizon yesterday and tried seeing about exchanging the phone, since it's having all these problems, and was told no. That it's so common and pretty much every phone has the same things, so it's considered to be working and I just have to wait on a patch. He then told me that if I wanted I could void my warranty and s-off it to go back to GB. I found that kind of odd. Then he tried pushing the Razr on me, I said no I like HTC so then he told me that the Droid 4's are having the same problems too.
To make a long story as short as possible, Im on MDK bootloader and I was running stang5liter 5.0 with CWM recovery. I've been bored lately with my phone so I've been flashing a bunch of different roms trying to get the coolest touchwiz rom with most features while using up least amount of system memory as possible (obvioisly). Well I was messing around before attempting to flash Pheonix Rom (ported stang5liter) and I wiped factory reset, cleared cache, dalvik. Then I went into advanced, format system, and then I tried format (sd-ext) which I never have done before and really don't know what it does but figured what heck I'll try it since I've soft bricked this phone multiple times and am fluent at bringing it back to life again. So after I did format (sd-ext) I went to flash rom and clicked on Phoenix Rom zip which I had on my external sd card and pressed "yes flash rom" then CWM looked like it was about to flash but all of a sudden the screen went black and CWM came back to main menu with no flash. I had already wiped the phone so I couldn't reboot to previous system image and of course I didn't have a backup and now I couldn't get CWM to flash any of the rom zips I had on my sd card so I had to ODIN back the emergency sch-i545 mdk tar and everything in Odin seemed like it went just fine. Everything booted up and phone seemed like it was working fine, but. I have noticed big problems since then. 1st thing I noticed was phone getting really hot to the touch, then when I tried to turn it off it shuts down but back key lights and notification light stays on and it never does the final vibrate and turn all the way off, same thing when I try to reboot it just stays like that until I pull batery but it boots back up fine after that. Also I enabled developer options but when I go down and try to open the developer settings in the about phone menu my phone freezes and it will never open. Other little things happen to llike apps FC and sometimes when I open them its like I'm opening it for the first time again line there's no cache memory or something. Then I tried to root again and was successful with towel root and I installed SU and terminal emulator and attempted to flash CWM with loki patch and everything in terminal looks as if it's good and I actually got it to install but when I tried to flash Phoenix Rom again it did the same thing and had to run through the whole Odin process again and now I'm back to the same problems and I'm going crazy trying to find threads with similar problem but have not found anything really at all, can someone please help!
