[Q] Clearing Notifications - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All, hopefully someone can help. I've just updated my S3 to 4.1.2 and I've now noticed that the 'clear' button in the notification pane is gone. Also can't swipe away notifications now. I've searched google and XDA but can't find any answer, good or bad to tell me if there is a cure for this. The fact that there is a lack of complaints about it makes me think that everybody else is okay with it and I'm just whinging or everybody else has a clear button still, and mine has gone AWOL. Oh, I'm UnRooted by the way, but as soon as my warranty runs out, I'll be rooting it faster than a Rat up a drainpipe!
Okay, I have just discovered that I do have some notifications that I can clear. But others (notably Words with friends)
says in the bar above it 'ongoing' and you cant clear it without playing the games. Any Idea's?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but all those option refer to a rooted handset. As stated, mine is not...yet.
This has only occured after the update to 4.1.2.

not rooting because of warranty is a bad reason because it's easily reversible

True. Flashing a stock ROM will unroot any device.

Just boot into Recovery Mode and do a factory reset.

Reboot your phone!

Does it do the same thing on stock? If not you should try using the thread for that leak, you'll likely get a lot more help there than in a random thread to be honest.
There could be corrupt data on your SDcard.
The phone is not usable by now. A full charge lasted about 4 hours.
Since no one could help with this i have to turn it off and stay without a phone until i get back home.
Nice

Did you try factory data reset in CWM?
It's none of the above. It is the media scanner. It sometimes goes mad on SGSIII Jelly Bean and just ramps up the CPU and doesn't stop.
If you disable the media scanner using this app. The problem will be solved. If you add more music/pictures/etc to the SD card in the future and it doesn't show up in the Gallery etc, you can re-enable the media scanner using that same app. Just disable the media scanner when the media shows up after a reboot.

You have no error on your SD card. It is a Samsung JB screw up. If you want to however, you could copy the contents of the cards, format them and then paste the contents back.

No, ofcourse the kernel isnt deleted. Why on earth would it do that?
A factory reset deletes app/system app data and reverts it back to default install.
Then if i put a New kernel on it will the old be deleted?

Yes.
Just go to sammobile.com and get your stock rom.
The kernel won't be deleted unless you flash another won over it,only your data (pictures, music) get deleted.
Pretty sure that got answered almost a day ago. Don't see why it needs to be said again ? (I have my own theories about why certain RC's do this, but, anyhoo).

With the way he questions i don't think he's quite ready to perform a flash operation, i suggest the OP to do some research through Google and ask questions, because quite frankly how do you think an OS runs? If factory reset deleted the kernel Samsung or any other company would be knee deep with warranty claims and law suit' from pissed clients. Please Google and try to understand what "Kernel" means and what "Factory reset" means, and then try advanced things like flashing a kernel.

[Q] My S4 won't turn off!!

Guys I need help here. I just rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500), and it was fine for a few hours...but now it just wont turn off.
Even when the screen times out.
Even when I press the power button.
It will just stay on no matter what. (Interestingly, long pressing the power button does bring up the power dialogue!)
I did not flash any Custom ROM. I did not even install any recovery! The only tinkering I did was Setting cpu speed using Tasker...
Guys please help...I'm in trouble...
If the kernel you used is uncompatible or if its a stock kernel, you will get issues, also if you set the frequency to high for your phone,it will give issues,Look @ this.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727171

I tried restarting the phone. Nothing happened. I removed the battery and re inserted. Nothing happened.
, I decided to factory reset. I lost root, but the kernel stuck...Aaaarrrggghhhh.
Problem still persisting.
Umm by battery pull, do you mean removing the battery while the phone is on?
(Update: Trying removing the battery while the phone was on...didn't help)
Thankfully, I've got the S View cover...So most of the screen is black, just the time, etc are on...

My phone is factory unlocked. Here in India, people rarely buy phones with carriers.
Will the link next to "india" work? Or should i just take it to the service centre? (my phone isn't rooted, remember?)

So you posted a link to an app that does not support OP's phone in the free method with only the POSSIBILITY of being able to root with the pro version. Sounds kind of scam like to me.
To the OP: I was trying to find some info on rooting your phone, and though I found stuff for the d160, didn't have any luck with the version you have yet and not sure if the method is compatible because it involves install a custom recovery and sometimes they support more than one device, but often not.

I'm aware of the difference between a Windows app and an app for the phone, but the end result is the same: the phone is clearly not supported in the free version nor any phone that is even similiar, meaning they'd have to try the Pro version to even have a shot. Recommending paid software without letting people know just seems...inappropriate, at best. Glad it worked for your phone, but your phone and the one in question are vastly different.

Is that so? Trying to use a root program not designed for your phone is going to do 1 of 3 things:
Nothing (hopefully)
Bricked
Or leave behind bits of coding that could prevent a proper root access app to work
Let's say it MIGHT work, well, that means the OP has a 50/50 chance of messing up his phone, to some degree, that would involve needing to reinstall the stock operating system. Not likely that the firmware is easy to find, and OP might not be comfortable with trying to fix his phone in that manner. Not odds most people care to bet on.
I think it's great that you want to help, but you should be more careful with advice you are not sure of.

You couldn't find any steps on how to root your V10? Really? You obviously did not put any effort at all into finding your answer. SMH.
The ones I found are for the lollipop version. And I tried them they didn't workm. It made a thing come up on my phone when i restart saying it can't check for software corruption. No need to be rude.

Use the search function next time. Not being rude juat honest here... you really did not try searching for it at all. If you did you would have found it. The topic of the thread is very clear.
Good luck and happy rooting.

Did you unlock the bootloader? That was my problem. I figured the BL would remain unlocked, since I was esentially "upgrading" from 5.1.1. and it was already unlocked, so when I got to that step, the message told me it was already unlocked. So, I continued on as if everything was ok. But once I flashed MM, it relocked the bootloader. . So, when I tried to flash the TOT file, that's where the red fail message came in.
