Honest question about an upgrade.

Okay, I was trying to get some clarification here. My wife has the Evo 4G and is eligible for an upgrade. I have the 3D, and we both love the hell out of our phones. One of my very closest friends has Sprint, and wants the iPhone 4S but is not upgrade eligible. Would it be possible to upgrade to the 4S online, and when the phone arrives not activate it, and sell it to my friend for the price that I had paid for it? My wife and I have no interest in an iPhone and I am not looking to make money, I am just looking to help out a good friend, and we don't care if we lose the upgrades, we are very happy with our current phones.
Any clarification if this is legal, or possible would be great. I don't want to do anything that could be considered illegal, etc. Thanks!
U can do it. Nothing wrong with it but they will activate it on ur line and then u have to take it off. That is if u get it from the store. Ive done this 2 times.

Yes, every one does that all the time..sprint doesn't care

Thanks for the replies guys. So when the iPhone comes in the mail can I just give it to him and he can activate it or do I need to do anything else?

Ya you shouldn't need anything else.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
If you don't activate it first, they may require you to have it released from your line. Its just a simple call to CS asking them to release it. Also, be aware they may charge you the $36 activation fee after getting the phone and then charge him again when activating it. This may be the case if you don't activate it first. Be sure you guys don't get double charged, they have been doing this alot lately.

Galaxy S3. I am looking for something new.
I never thought i'd say this...but my next phone might be a Samsung. lol
I really wish HTC wasn't soooo blind and/or blatantly anti-consumer. It seems like Samsung got everything right with the gs3 while the new line of HTC phones still have quite a few things that I really don't like about them.
I haven't finalized my decision by any means, but as of now, i'm definitely leaning towards the GS3.
Everything was looking so good right up until the screen...F That crap...not even going to give pentile display a 2nd thought after seeing the Galaxy Nexus up close.

new evo ... locked in battery
gs3 for me
The answer would be easy if HTC would listen to the community. But since Samsung makes their devices developer friendly its a hard not to go with them. Even with the screen quality being less than the Evo LTE. The Evo is guaranteed to be locked and I can't stand being restricted. HTC also doesn't give out source code so our devs can't build functioning roms. Thats why I'm leaning Samsung
Coming from the rezound in June. I was happy with the way the one x looked and thought that's what I'd be getting, then the evo let design came out. It kind of bummed me but it's growing on me. The sg3 just doesn't have a good enough design for me. I like the lte's look better. Still wish it looked like the one x though :/. Oh well I still can't wait.

Selling a rooted Evo LTE. Question.

Okay, I just listed my rooted LTE on ebay and my wife's un rooted LTE. Should I have un rooted my LTE before selling it to get more money or is it worth more rooted?

I wouldn't think that a rooted phone would be worth more than a non-rooted phone. Having said that, though, the rooted phone may sell easier since the work to root it has already been done. It really depends on what the buyer wants. A power user would more likely be inclined to grab the rooted phone, while somebody else may or may not care. So long as both phones have clean ESN's you shouldn't have a problem selling either one.
Just my 2 cents worth

Personally I always unroot my phones before selling them. My thought behind this is that the average Joe doesn't understand a rooted phone and may be scared or put off by it. Any techie that wants a rooted phone can probably just do it themselves. In my eyes you are eliminating potential customers who may be put off by the idea of a rooted phone. I don't think of rooted as a selling point. Just my thoughts.
Do you happen to have a white one?

The Next Evo?

Maybe the Evo isn't dead yet.. What if that new Butterfly S that was suppose to be the next DNA is coming to sprint? It's got the right colors to be an Evo. Happy I didn't use up my upgrade yet.

+1 on this...I thought I was the only one that saw this. It would make sense considering the Butterfly came to Verizon branded as one of their 'DROID' devices-->so logic says that since Sprint already has the One it should come to Sprint under the EVO umbrella. #TeamEvo all the way

Thats the sex!!!!
With Sprint already having the "one" i dont see the point?
Most likely polycarbonate, 5" screen, proper buttons, s800 and maybe an SD card.. I'd ditch the One in a heartbeat.

It's definitely gonna be a nice phone! I owned the Evo 4G, still have my Evo 3D with about 6 extra batteries , and still have 2 Evo LTE (1 in each color). That said, I could care less if it has the Evo name or not, to be honest, I don't care if it's named HTC Turd! Lol. A name is just that, a name. It has nothing to do with the phones features and functionality! If it doesn't have an sd card slot then I won't even consider it! The One is a huge disappointment to me with no sd card slot and only a 4.7" display! That's why I now have a Note 2. I wanted a bigger display and gotta have an sd card slot! After 6 or 7 years of nothing but HTC phones, this Samsung is a very nice change(NEVER thought I would EVER say that)! It's nice to not have to worry about s-off/unlocking the bootloader, since Samsung doesn't lock their sh1t down like HTC does!! Oh, also nice being able to swap batteries again! One of the first things I did was order an extra battery! Almost forgot how awesome it was being able to swap batteries in my Evo 4G and Evo 3D!!

This is terrible imo... While I like the evo line I think that HTC made the right move having one phone rather than several. It has increased sales and spurred development.

I actually agree. When I first saw thus, I felt as though HTC was going back on their word to deliver One device (pun intended.)

HTC Evo 4G LTE
Well the One doesn't have LTE800 and it's going to start popping up soon so I'm ready to have a phone with both LTE bands ready to go. (assuming that this is all true and if the Butterfly S does in fact have the correct radios for LTE 1900+800).The One on Sprint has such a crappy antenna design when it comes to LTE and 1X...I didn't use my upgrade on it so I'm ok with the switch if need be.

Goodbye HTC One

Hey guys I traded my htc one for an s4. I just wanted to let you all know this is the best device forum I have ever been a part of. Everyone here was very helpful and great. This forum will be missed especially with all the ignorant and new android users on the s4 forum.

Cool story, bro.
Actually traded because I can actually enable the 1700mhz band on the s4 unlike the HTC one. I'm switching over to t mobile so this was the main thing. Also I figured it'd be easier to trade the s4 for an actual t mobile phone (Xperia Z) since more people know about the s4. Flawed logic to some but oh well.

Just curious, the T-Mobile version of the One doesn't support 1700 mhz? I'm an AT&T user, so I'm unfamiliar with such things.
The t mobile version does support the 1700mhz band. I'm switching to t mobile and taking my phone with me in October. The att htc one doesn't support the 1700mhz band for t mobile so it would have been crippled on t mobile's network.

Have fun with your new phone. Don't you find it kind of strange to start a new thread just to tell people you're switching phones, that's not a unique event especially on these forums.

sometimes people want to be strange/rude/etc, kayone73. I can't think of any legitimate reason to try to drum up interest by saying "IM GETTING RID OF MY PHONE AND GETTING A DIFFERENT ONE". This shouldn't even be a thread, honestly.
Enjoy the SGS4, honestly you cannot go wrong with either phone.
Regardless, this thread doesn't actually have anything to do with the HTC One as regards informational purposes so I am going to lay it to rest.
If you want you can always give a shout-out to the HTC community in your signature.
