There is no way to do that without taking out 3g option. (settings/more settings/mobile networks/network mode)

Hello everyone,
How can I easily turn off 3g and on 2g on android 2.3.3? I'm on Wolfbreak's ROM which works perfectly, but when I'm not actively using my phone I would like to set it to use 2g only.
When I googled I found this way, but I'm hoping for a more easy solution:
1. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Phone informatie
3. Set Preferred Network Type:
- GSM only = 2g
- WCDMA preferred = 3g
Does anyone know a more easy way to set my phone to 2g?
Hi there, go to settings ----> wireless & networks -----> Mobile Networks -----> Network Mode. Hope that helps.

It helps, a lot easier! ;-) In previous Android version you could turn off the 3g box, I couldn't find that one!
Hi,
i use the app Quick Settings for turn on and off
greets
I read everywhere that since 2.3.3 switching between 2g and 3g is not possible anymore, all the switch apps only place shortcuts to the settings menu.
The only one that really has this feature is a CM ROM.
Is there any way on a rooted non CM ROM to place a widget that can switch between 2g and 3g just by pressing it?
I have the UK Razr, at first i was able to use 3G then after 3 days i can only get EDGE.
I hard reset and still i cant get 3G.
Ideas?
I saw in the widget named Mobile date toggle, try to add it and turn it on?
Also check in Setting -> Wireless & network settings -> Mobile networks -> Select network and select 3G.
3G

When i do a network search I only get the 2G networks. If i select 3G the signal drops.
It seems i cant enable UMTS. I m always on EDGE / 2g network.
If I use the sim in another mobile it connects normally to 3G/UMTS.
Any help how to enable it on the RAZR?
It was working 2 days ago and suddenly it stopped.
Any idea how to switch between radio bands? from the phone info i can only see USA band and nothing about Europe or other bands?
This is causing my disabled 3G, I cant connect to any 3G network (voice and data).
Help is needed please
Fix the problem? Same thing happens to me yesterday. All the same. I would appreciate help.
Sorry for my English, I am using the google translator from Spanish.
Same problem here. Anyone find a fix?
Yesterday I wrote email to Motorola, I have asked several questions ... but still have not given me solution.
I returned the device to the store after trying everything. I even changed the GSM/SIM operator and the problem wasn't solved, i can only use EDGE/2G, whenever i switch to 3G the signal dies.

For mine, the testing menu is *#*#4636#*#*
No luck yet with what you suggested, but I'm trying different combos of APNs and messing with the testing menu to see if I can get UMTS.

I've fixed my particular issue. I did an upgrade to the iPhone 4S (US AT&T), and am selling the iPhone to pay for my xt910. Apparently, when they did the upgrade, they inadvertently removed my data plan. They fixed the issue and I'm now getting full UMTS on wap.cingular.
Hopefully that will help some of you other guys having the issue. I thought it was the phone itself, but it turned out to be my plan.
Does anybody know how to turn off HSDPA but leave 3G enabled in this device? I used to have a samsung galaxy mini with this option of selection band and saves battery sooooo far
go to
settings>wireless&networksettings>Mobile Networks
depending on your ROM you will get Use Only 2G networks and Use Only 3G networks

thanks but this isn't exactly what I'm looking for. Is an option that allows you to enable only UMTS and not HSDPA. You could use 3G but without the "H" icon, which means less speed, but more battery life because the device is not switching between UMTS and HSDPA constantly. I know that there's an option to switch only to GPRS, but that's not what I mean... thanks anyway!
Hmmm. When I enable '2g only' I can still use EDGE networks and so forth, it only seems to disable HSDPA - which is how I want it. What do you get when you disable 2g then?

He's talking about UTMS which is one step ahead of EDGE and one step short of HSDPA. I don't believe that there is any way to disable HSDPA only, however like the post above says, you can disable UTMS & HSDPA under settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>Use 2g networks only.
hi every one i want to ask for help from you
i have a very poor HSDPA connection from the network operator (no more than 350kb/s)
but the hsdpa/hsupa is making my battery drain to 0 in 2 houres , i want disable high-speed packet 3.5g
and leave the 3G slow packet data connection in order to save battery
does any one know how to do it in CM10 OR .785??
Settings > Network connection > Network mode > GSM Only
The path also depends on the ROM you're using.

In some ROMs instead of GSM, it says 2G only. But name is same "Network mode"
I have a strange issue with my phone. Everything is working great except that I have to enable "Overseas roaming" to be able to get the network working. The phone obviously thinks it's still in China and not in Sweden. Anyone else seen this?
...
Nope, no problems.

Same for me. I have to enable it to get any service.
Can you edit the region code in build.prop? Obviously you would need to be rooted. Mine thinks I have a U.S phone in England. So far I haven't had to enable roaming to use data. Not sure why. I did use the app More Locales to create a new language region on my phone though
According to this post at miui.com this could be due to our operator being a so called MVNO, I'm going to try the WSM tools suggested in the post.

One of my SIMs runs on a MVNO and I don't need to enable roaming to use data. No idea why, or if that helps your investigations.
I would love to know how to solve the problem on national roaming. I have had this issue with my previous phones as well. Alcatel one touch flash, mlais m52, and now the redmi note 2.
---------- Post added at 08:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:58 PM ----------
The mismatch comes from your network identifier that is in your simcard as compared to the network that you are connected to. Your country code is the same but since you are on an MVNO, the network provider code is different. Android is fooled to think that you are roaming. For calls and sms, roaming gets enabled automatically. But you need to enable data roaming to get data connection working.
---------- Post added at 08:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 PM ----------
The national roaming fix as far as i know does away with comparing the network id between simcard and the connected network. As long as your simcard and the network provider have the same country id, then the roaming flag will not be enabled.
For the fix to work, i believe you need a rooted phone or a custom rom. Sadly, i havent seen that for the redmi note 2.
