Heimdall - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Sorry for bugging you guys lately, but I have a question.
Can some of the devs work on making a mobile version of Heimdall just like there's a Mobile Odin? And make it compatible with our players... ?

How would mobile Heimdall differ from mobile ODIN? Don't they do the same thing? And I don't think that's a task our community's devs can take on alone. CF made mobile ODIN, and he's like a genius.

Latest Version of Odin?

Any idea which version of Odin is the most recent? Last I saw officially was 1.7 but I've seen 1.8/1.8.2 in some downloads but would rather not download a trojan.
It doesn't really matter because 1.3 is the only version that works properly with our devices as far as I know anyway.
Ah, thanks.

I would suggest you learn about heimdall. There's a nice sticky in this very forum to help you too.
Heimdall is much more reliable than odin and the frontend has a bunch of failsafes built in to prevent you from accidentally doing dumb things like you can in odin.
Anyway, just a suggestion.

If someone does a dumb thing with odin, its because they're dumb, not odin. 2 buttons, not hard.

Mobile Odin by chainfire

I am sure of you have seen this already but chainfire developed and app called mobile Odin, and it pretty much does the same thing Odin does on your desktop but on your phone. Our device isn't supported yet but he said our device is one that it could work on. I have already provided a dump file to him for our device but I think it would be good if more of us i777 owners showed support over in his thread so we can get a compatible version soon. The more interest that is shown, I assume the quicker we can get Support for our phone. Here is the link

Our device is now supported on Mobile Odin, since November 28th.

Looks like testing has been completed and chainfire has done it again with this kick ass app.
For those who don't know this app is a ANDROID app version of Odin for PC. Can pretty much do the same thing

Please help, ROM Manager Brick

I don't have a SGH 1777 myself, but I was rooting it for my cousin and I had no idea ROM manager was corrupt.
If anyone has any idea how to unbrick or fix through Odin please feel free to share.
My friend should not have to pay for my ignorance.

Rom Manager is not corrupt, just no official support for our device. -- Hence the Sticky Thread Warning in this forum.
U probably are gonna have to flash back to Stock...see the stickies in the Dev forum. U can gain Root access there as well. All info that u need is in the stickies.

Thanks. I was reading the stickies, but I couldn't find the stock ROM that is flashable through Odin. Could you point me in the right direction please?

Thank you. And just a quick question, I flash the kernel on that page with Odin correct?
U can use either Odin or Heimdall to flash the rooted system, kernel and modem.

Rooting my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 US variant

Hey everyone, lately I have been watching a lot of videos on YouTube from the channel 'PocketNow' and I really enjoy all the tips and tricks they provide for Android user such as ROMS, Mods, and Rooting advise. I myself want to get into the world of rooting my Android devices, but im a little skittish about bricking my device or doing something wrong. Is it really worth rooting my Samsung Galaxy Player ? And if so what is the easiest and safest way to do it?

You can use a program called Super one click or this program here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20950511
Super one click works on most Windows computers so you probably won't have to use the second one.
If you want the features of rooting then it is definitely worth it. You can unroot using super one click as well.

Thanks! and ya ive heard of that. I plan on rooting my device on a computer with no internet connection. Do you think that'll work?
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
It did for me. You may also have to use odin to flash a new kernel if you want to.

Odin is a program made by Samsung that was leaked. It let's you basically "install" roms and kernels.
You would be able to root without Internet if you managed to download the rooting program.

Is there a way to root my player from the player itself?
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
As joemhewitt noted, use SuperOneClick, it literally is just one click and you're rooted. I'm not doing anything too crazy with my SGP so I'm running everything stock excepted rooted. For me, the most valuable aspect of being rooted is to be able to backup my stuff with Titanium Backup. I followed this video and rooting worked perfectly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA4bw8bU4T4
I also watched this video, thanks man
