Hi I have been looking everywhere for answers since about changeling app data speeds and bandwidth allocation for tethering. I live in a new 4g HSPA area supposedly capable of 42mbps speeds on my galaxy S3 sgh-t999. Its rooted running the darth stalker ROM, the tweaks that come with and the NEW UVDLJA MODEM that came with yet daytime I get about 1.5down and very variable up with late night like 11pm or midnight 3mbps down same up. Is there a ROM somewhere or a custom and/or new modem that could help me? Maybe a file I could edit on bandwidth saved for phone functions? Lol I only the data! I am on T-Mobiles unlimited 4g data plan and get full signal. 4 bars of 4g at my house. Any suggestions?

Last ota update I did all of that and used mobile Odin pro for root to inject SuperSU into the stock 4.1 after a total reset. Since I originally bought the gs3 on any ROM, app, or build.prop tweaks the data rates have remained almost exactly the same. T mobiles network upgrades didn't change anything either. Anybody know who has the best/most use full data speed tweaks in their ROM? I was thinking of trying hellfire or illusions. There has to be something I can do with a rooted GS3, the new 42mbps network, and a constant 4 bars 4g! Any advice at all?

I would Definetly say Darth stalker X.1 especially if u flash Deviant 1944mghz OC CPU speed kernal. You have to download the Kernal desperately but it's worth it. Darth stalker is only for T-Mobile T999 so he is always up to date on our fastest network/data/streaming tweaks and tethering hacks. Dude is on it. Better than hellfire, xquizit, cm10, and even aokp in my opinion.

My Galaxy S2 is on the stable release of CM9. Randomly today I looked at it to check some notifications, and found I had no data. This persists no matter where I am or what the signal is at. I can have maximum bars and text/call but data isn't working at all. I have data on under networks and don't understand why this is suddenly happening. Any thoughts?

Not sure what APNs are in all honesty. I have been on stable CM9 since its release day and have never had a problem until today. Tried a reflashing of the rom, a new kernel, and another new rom. Still nothing and I'm back on CM9 again now with no data. Do you think these APNs are the issue?
Just read up on APNs controlling your mobile data a bit. I think I have a basic understanding of it. How can I check if my APN is wrong and if it is how do I fix it?

Where you at? My wife and I both lost data tonight in southern California. Odds are ATT is doing something with their network in certain areas. I didn't notice it until I tried sending a picture message. Then the wife came home complaining her data wasn't working. Same deal, full signal. So yeah, probably not a problem with your phone, but the network itself.

i'm having a very similar issue. my gs2 was functioning until approximately 8pm. i was actually just eating dinner and realized that i couldn't connect to anything. i'm able to receive phone calls, text messages, utilize the net using my wifi, but can't receive mms or connect to the net by 3g/hsdpa. as far as i know i haven't made any changes to my apn but i did check and they appear to be correct. i tried rebooting my phone, setting it on airplane and off, and still no success. not sure if it matters but i'm running task's aokp version 7.3.2012 but i haven't reflashed or added new mods/apps in several weeks. also i'm in los angeles. at this point, i'm holding off on reflashing my phone and hoping it's just the network.
I had a similar problem witcm i finally flash jb the super nexus double checked my apns an poof i had data again. If you want to know where to find your apns look under your wireless settings choose mobile networks then access point names make sure you have att there or whatever carrier yiu are using

Glad it's just the network being down. But, as for APNs: (this is for task's aokp, but the process will be extremely similar on other ROMs)
System settings
More (dependent upon ROM)
Mobile networks
Access Point Names (APNs)
There is a thread dedicated to the "correct" APNs somewhere around here. Could give those a try and see if they help you out in low signal/slow areas.

I've had the same issue. Although I'm in Australia and im on the Virgin network my SG2 data connection ability is not working.
However i only just recently upgraded it to the 4.1.2 JB using the link from this site.
Has anyone had this problem?
I tried the first time without rooting my phone and it Did't work. So i factory reset the phone to 4.0.3 ICS and everything was okay.
I then rooted the phone and used the link XDA provides, followed the instructions to the T and updated the phone to 4.1.2 JB but not my Data connection isn't working. Can anyone help?
Hey guys I'm have trouble with a radio that is for T-Mobile not. I have the At&t Galaxy Note. But I have T-Mobile service. Any other Modem I flash (icsblaze or KID) works fine.. But the [RADIO][MODEM] TMO Galaxy Note UVLG3 I flash kills my phone.. makes it slow and hangs a lot.. Other people have the same problems also.
Here is where I got it from. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842207&page=13
Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?
You already have two working modems and you're flashing one that doesn't work.
Yeah. the T-Mobile 879 rom is super fast that's the reason for changing.

I'm pretty sure just about everyone trying to use the actual T-mobile Note (SGH-T879) on the AT&T Note (i717) are having problems with slow downs and freezing constantly. It sounds like you just simply like the ROM better....? So if that's the case, why not just use the T-mobile ROM, with the ICS Blaze modem? Quite a few people seem to be doing that... Me, I use Dark Star ICS w/ the ICS-Blaze modem and am perfectly content for now...
I don't care which rom I have. I just want the speed of the 879 modem. Lol.
Yesterday on my SGS 2 I got speeds over 20 mbs. I would like to have that on my Note
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
The 2 Notes have different antennas. That's why the tmo modem will not work well on our att notes. The closest I have come is the blaze modem- great DL speeds- redzone- 10-12, poor UL speeds- .2-.4. I'm in No. Jersey. I am trying out straight talk for the month with the att sim. The speeds are poor as compared to t-mo. No better than ATT on DL- 1-3, and poor on UL- .5-.7. So I am going back to t-mo and porting my # to google voice. I will deal with the poor UL speeds is return for the $30 plan
try blaze
try the latest blaze radio with the backstair vi rom, for me in miami i get average 3-5 mbps download. I also have this on my phone, it maybe a placebo effect but for me i think it made a huge difference.

Hi all,
Has anyone updated their Orange S3 to 4.1.2 through KIES? Does it include any bloatware or anything useful (unlikely).
Also, has anyone taken a dump of the FW?
Just wondering as I have not seen much coverage of this other than that it has been released, eventually.

I doubt EE will go to the trouble of a bespoke radio firmware for their network, the XXELLA modem is working fine for me on EE with 12Mbps speed recorded on occasion (why bother with 4G when H+ is delivering that?).
I'd suggest you try flashing a few of the 4.1.2 radio variants to see if your signal improves, but this may also decrease your battery life.

Orange Signal Boost is a UMA application for Orange -- it allows you to make/receive calls / SMS over wifi when you have no signal. It was in the GS2, but not in the GS3, unfortunately. I was really hoping it would come out as well as I have practically no signal where I live unless I am right next to a window.

Likewise, it is a shocking oversight that they have not brought this out for the S3. I have to stand in my kitchen if I want to use my phone! Sometimes that doesn't work either, so I have an excuse to go to the pub (I get signal there!).
Indeed
XXELLA does give good performance and I have tried modems galore, but when there are many houses between you and the base stations sometimes you just need some help!
On a slightly off topic note has anyone tried the BT Smartalk app? Although its just for outgoing calls its pretty handy for making calls against your BT allowance over WIFI.
If only we could have a seamless phone / wifi handover for calls.....I live in hope (and know that its been punted as a future before)
And I completely agree about the Signal Boost UMA side of things, its was super handy in my S2 when I occasionally ran a stock ROM or installed while rooted, plus I could make calls on the WIFI on the Underground in London, I do miss it!

Update: 9/6
So after waiting what seemed like forever I got the call that the network ticket is closed and switched back to jellybeans b21 and like man of you guys suspected my data speeds are still normal. Guess it was just something to do with the way or amount or roms I flashed who knows
So I have been running various ROMs since release of the note 2 (maybe stock for about a week) and recently my data speeds on 3g started being really slow.
So I called Verizon support about it and they always gave me some run around about my coverage area had me do device resets ect...
Well It finally came down to them sending me a new sim card to see if it resolved the issue. After activating the sim I did some data tests and it was still slow around 120kbps.
This is when it got interesting the rep asked me for the Baseband version in the about phone settings to make sure I was running the newest software. Since I had updated the Radios manually I told her i605vramc3 just like I told the last rep that asked. She replied "That's odd that isn't what our system is showing" then she transferred me to the next level of tech support.
This rep decided to open a network ticket and asked a lot of questions about my preferred network and signal strength as well as some location information. He told me that network engineers would be looking at the towers and possibly running some remote diagnostics on my phone.
Fearing that the remote diagnostic would give away that I was rooted and running a custom ROM I shut down the phone and pulled the battery until I reverted to stock.
Now just for fun I loaded up speed test and where I was getting 75-100kbps I am now pulling a hearty 1500-2300kbps in the same place.
To be clear this is not just a problem I experienced with a single rom the problem persisted across about 5 ROMs PA, Aokp, Cleanrom ace, and Jelly beans as well as a few different kernels.
So my here is my question Is there some other explanation for this behavior? or Has Verizon figured out how to throttle data for ROM users?
Is Anyone else seeing this issue?
Once I am notified about the network ticket being closed I plan to re-root and start from my freshly updated system and see if there is any difference. I will update this post with my findings.
I think what fixed your device data speed was reflashing back to stock via odin. I have had wierd issues with data speeds flashing radios via recovery...a simple odin session always seems to fix it.
Have you tried flashing all of the roms you mentioned after going back to stock each time?
Im in the Louisville KY area and have consistently gotten between 40mbps to 65mbps. I've used cleanROM Jedi pacman tons of others. Not ran into a problem yet.
I've got some pics if you want proof. Holla!
Consistently. In Las Vegas and on cm10.2

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the Note, but definitely not new to Android or XDA.
I've got the phone "unlocked" via the radio trick here: http://str8pt.blogspot.com/2013/06/unlock-simfree-method-for-galaxy-note.html
I've rooted it, and have tried a few different ROMs with different radios.
The Blaze radio (and others) I mention are from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679722
I am in Melbourne, FL in case location makes any difference.
Here's what I am seeing:
CyanogenMOD 10.1.3 - using Blaze ICS radio I am getting only EDGE speeds. Using "Official TMO ICS Radio" (I'm guessing it's the one from the TMO Note?) , I get NO connectivity.
Stock 4.1.2 - using Blaze ICS radio I am getting 4G, however the signal meter is totally empty as if there's just enough signal to register connectivity but not enough to register a single bar. Download speeds are abysmal in comparison to other TMO phones I've used here - I am seeing downloads at around 1.5MB - other phones are 6, 7, even 8 MB.
My question are as follows:
Using CyanogenMod, should I be using the i717 version? Or the TMO Note version? Is there anything I can do with ANY particular radio to get better than EDGE?
Using the Stock ROM (or a variant), is there are a way to get the signal cluster to function properly? Any way to get better download speeds?
I read that the TMO 4.0.4 stock ROM image can be installed via ODIN and apparently it works correctly (if I am reading correctly) - would the TMO 4.1.2 stock ROM image be installed via ODIN and work as well? (If I can even find a full download of it?)
Should I expect to have to re-flash the radio each time with each ROM? From what I've seen, if I don't, I lose any ability to get 4G until I flash it again. I'd be stuck on EDGE.
Thanks so much guys! I've searched and read till my eyes are crossing and not finding the answers I need. I hope that with the experience that can be found in this forum maybe I can get where I need to be!
Thanks again!

I recently obtained an I717 too, unlocked it, and got it functioning with my tmobile prepaid plan. I'm still on gingerbread rom and using KID radio with decent success. just 4G , using WCDMA band 1700 (*#2263#). I get consistent decent speeds but not LTE.
The hands down best modem to use is UCMB4 - Google it. But it can cause problems with some jelly bean ROMs.
If you want jb more than anything, play with modems. If you want speed AND stability, go jellybean sandwich or black star X with the aforementioned modem.
If you want WiFi calling download skeleton key.
Ucmb4 with any of those three and the proper APN will get you LTE as fast as it's offered in your area

Hi Anthony820,
I'm currently running your Skeleton Key ROM - not bad at all! But definitely want to try to get CyanogenMod or PACman JB running.
I'll give the UCMB4 radio a shot this evening !

Uvlg3, if I recall, will get you good down speed, but mediocre up. Otherwise, it's a solid choice and may be more cooperative with jb builds.

Looks like you're right - here's just 4 radios that I just tested:
UCMB4 - EDGE only
UVLG3 - 3G/DC(WTF??)/H+ 6.01Mbps up/1.07 Mbps down
UVLE1 - Phone freezes, locks on black screen, had to pull battery
ICSBLAZE - 3G/DC/H+ Network communication issues message when running speedtest.
By the way, what the heck is "DC" on the network indicator where 3G or H/H+ normally is? I've never seen that before!

By the way, just checked and CM's WiFi tethering is working as well - nice!
Not sure what I did differently this time but this evening the signal indicator is showing real signal strength, equivalent to what I was seeing on another phone on CM.

Ok, I got it figured out. I am on the FAST APN and set to WCDMA/LTE . I'm on 3G/H+ here in the house now - will see how it goes when I head out tomorrow.
Either way, I think it's time to make a backup - it's running marvelously and doing everything I would expect it to!
NOTE: Newest PAC ROM (4.3) running smoothly with UVLG3 modem on T-Mobile without issue
[EDIT]
Scratch that - it worked great until I did the first reboot - then it wouldn't boot up again, even with a battery pull.

I went ahead and flashed UCMB4 and was showing 4g lte after reboot. my phone info setting says WCDMA preferred (it shows no LTE option at all ) and the *#2263# menu setting says "automatic". on the fast.t-mobile.com apn
I use UCMD3 and get LTE almost everywhere. Hellybean is a pretty good ROM, try it out!
