[Q] Official JB XWLSD flash has caused carrier re-lock - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an I9100 (international version) that I got from O2 in the UK. It was previously locked to O2 until I used the "Galaxy_S Unlock" app by Helroz. This seemed to unlock fine and could use it on Canadian networks with no problem.
I have flashed loads of other custom roms since with no problem, however I tried flashing the official sammy JB firmware (Nordic version, XWLSD) via Odin and found that my phone now asks for the carrier unlock code again. It seems to have re-locked itself to a carrier.
Any ideas? Is this a CSC issue? I thought firmware updates didn't affect the /efs files.

Always back up EFS folder, ALWAYS.
Search was down earlier today but you still have google.
You could type something like "official jb carrier lock" and you get these results.
You could open a new tab for this and what do you know? problem solved.

Yeah I did search, though nothing really relevant would come up as most results talked about the "leaked" firmware rather than the official releases, or would talk about "SIM" locks rather than a "carrier/network" locks.
I have backed up my EFS using ktool and have now used the GalaxSim Unlock apk linked above to remove the carrier lock. I had previously tried Helroz's app on the official JB firmware but it ended up corrupting my efs somehow and i lost my IMEI, managed to restore it though.
I was just suprised that flashing a new firmware would affect the carrier lock of a phone at all, it was my understanding that flashing firmware doesn't affect the efs directory. Anyway, problem solved and my phone is now usable abroad. Thanks!

Glad you solved it.
Now, read spocky's galaxysim thread, you'll see why your device relocked.

[Q] CSC Query Since Debranding Phone

Seeing as I`m still a relatively noobish poster I`m unable to ask this question in the relevant thread. I`ve just debranded the phone following the 8 step guide but I had issues following step 8 where you change the CSC code. I couldnt quite figure it out so step 8 never got followed. As a result, despite losing the Three branding on the phone I now have a phone that displays the CSC as "unknown" and may well explain why Kies cannot pick up the firmware version on the phone. If I follow step 8 and key in *#272*<your IMEI># on my phone it then shows me a screen headed "Preconfig" with "Sales Code" underneath and "H3G" in the box to the right. Underneath is a radio button thats deselected. if I press to highlight it then press "install" at the bottom of the screen I keep getting an error saying "Must be THREE chars".
Can anyone shed any light on this and give me any hope of rectifying?
Will I need to manually input the Three APN settings once I successfuly change the CSC code?
Thanks in advance. I have spent ages scouring the web but there`s not a great deal of info out there about the CSC part of the debranding process.
id like some more info on how important the csc is too, im got told it hold some carrier information but i dont know if that is true or not.
the reason you cant pick on is probably as since debranding you havent flashed the csc you need, you could find the one you need for your firmware over in the dev section.
Cheers for the reply, interestingly i`ve just re-flashed the phone and this time it is showing my CSC as XEU. Even so, I still cannot follow step 8. When I input that code including my IMEI in it shows XEU but when I press "install" it gives me the same old error of "Must be THREE chars". So not sure whether its worked or not and what diference it makes. At least Kies now shows something in the firmware field, even if it doesnt show what I was expecting. Hopefully someone can assist with this at some point later.

Hi there
If it says XEU after inputting the imei then it's working fine. You're not supposed to have to press install at this stage. Also to make sure it's working fine, I always boot into recovery mode. If you look down the code as recovery is loading, it will say which csc is being used/implemented (xue etc). Always reset data in recovery after rom flash from (especially from different csc.
I've had issues in the past when I flashed back to T-Mobile (after originally flashing ke7 stock) and then back again to T-Mobile. When I re-flashed back to stock after this, I couldn't get it to change from tmu (t-mobile) csc back to xeu, no matter how I flashed it. In the end the only way I could revert csc back to xeu was using the jig I had purchased. Apart from resetting the customer binery counter, it seemed to reset other settings, as once I had done this, I was able to install stock ke7 with xeu csc.

Cheers for that. I just did a recovery as you suggested and saw it was done using the Multi-CSC so hopefully that means its all sorted.
Does this mean I should now be able to see the latest Firmware update available in Kies?

Yes you should be able to see the latest available update for your csc via kies. Although kies seems much slower to get the updates. It's much easier to use Odin. Most people update by this method. It's really easy and pretty safe.

The csc will be sorted now. Also if you plug your phone into kies, this will confirm what csc you are using.

Cheers Redbullman. I can get into Kies now but on the firmware information section it says "Current Firmware Version : PDA:KDD / PHONE:KDH / CSC:KD1 (H3G)"
Its not telling me there`s a firmware update available so I have a horrible feeling something`s still not quite right but I`ve flashed it twice now and done 2 factory resets.
Would it be easier to find the stock KE7 kernel (forgive me if I`m using the wrong words) in Odin to flash it that way? If I can manually do it then I`d rather do it that way. Only problem is I`ve not yet found any tutorials on doing that, unless its the same (mostly) as the tutorial for debranding, except using a different .tar file (KE7).

[Q] Help unlocking please

So I accidently have locked myself out of my phone by changing my number to another network and thinking I could still use my current SIM in my phone until I got it unlocked.
I haven't been able to send or receive texts or anything for around 3 days now.
The place online I was getting it unlocked at said there was a delay with Samsung so they refunded me.
I tried the unlock apps but they don't work.
In GalaxSim, it says my phone is unlocked by when I try another SIM it doesn't work.
In the FAQ it says this could be a second SIM lock by the service provider, and to fix it I have to flash a full unbranded Samsung ROM.
I was wondering how I do this?
I'm on Cyanogen 10 and I currently have Jellybean on my device but I'm not too sure on what I have to do to flash to this ROM and if it will erase my data?
Thanks for any help!

Any chance you could link me on a good up to date guide? I don't want to brick my phone or anything, I thought I would have been on a Stock ROM since I'm on Jellybean now.

CM10/jellybean is not a "stock" rom. CM10 is a "AOSP" based rom.
Stock rom refers to your devices/carriers default rom, ie Samsung based rom. Get your needed rom from sammobile.com
Flashing Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
If you want to unlock your device use the search there is plenty of topics if you use keywords like "sim unlock" etc.
Oh so I have to reset my phone pretty much? Can I go back to Cyanogen 10 after I get the stock ROM?

I didnt say you have to do anything however you may have compatibility issues unlocking sim so would probably best to go back to stock.
Yes, you can go back and forth to any rom you want.
Flash stock rom via odin (download mode)
Flash Siyah kernel (again in download mode)
Reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset.
Boot Android and use sim unlock etc.
Reboot into recovery and flash whatever rom you like.
Thanks for that, I went onto that site you mentioned, sammobile.com and I chose to do their unlock method with SRS, it was only 15 euro so I'll see if it fixes it!
Thanks

Are you crazy?
There is plenty of ways to do it yourself for FREE if you would just stop been lazy and use search button.
Obviously I'm wasting my time, waste your money.
1) Get Mobile Odin Pro for 3 euro and download this Unbranded Stock ROM:
http://www.sammobile.com/2012/11/15/i9100xxlsj-%E2%80%93-galaxy-s-ii-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-test-firmware/
2) Read Mobile Odin thread by chainfire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
3) Flash the downloaded ROM following the guide above.
4) Check if your network still locked, If it is check this thread out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070375
5) Tell us how you did.
When I try run Mobile Odin it gives me an error about not being able to detect the device. It's not asking for super user privileges either?
your device is not rooted? weren't you in CM 10.1?
What device are you packing? GT-I9100?
I followed everything you said and my phone is still locked. No luck

It was rooted but then I did a root checker and it said it wasn't, must of lost it after changing to CM 10 I think.
I downloaded some auto rooter and that rooted the phone for me. Then I followed your instructions and now I'm freshly formatted but still not working. Tried all the unlocker tools again and still doesn't work. GalaxUnlock says I'm already unlocked so it must be a second network lock.
But in his instructions he says that flashing to a stock Samsung ROM fixes it, but I thought that's what I just done.
sure you don't have an IMEI issue? You did back EFS folder before you flashed for the first time right?
check you IMEI by dialing *#06# and see if it matches the imei number sticked below the battery.

IMEI matches the one that I had before I started trying all this and matches the one behind the battery.
In the Galaxy Unlocker app I backed up the EFS files when it asked me tther than that I haven't touched them really. Any recommendations? I've tryed pretty much everything I have seen.
I'm searching for the network info key-in code, for you to see what's locked and what's not. Can't seem to find it tho.
Do you have another carrier sim card to put in & see if it asks for an unlocking code?

I currently have my Meteor sim card in the phone, that's the company I was with for years.
The phone lets me browse and use apps and stuff when this sim card is in it.
I have another sim card for 48 who I am changing to, which asks for the unlock code.
Before with GalaxSim Unlock, it said I was already unlocked. I downloaded an old version now everything says undefined, and said it can't read the nv data, however I am nearly positive I have backups of this as I saw them on the card.
Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock just gives me an unlock code of 00000000 which doesn't work and Galaxy S Unlock doesn't work either, altough it says it does

Well, now we know that you are indeed locked, thats good.
busybox installed on your device?
if yes, try installing another version (older/newer) once downloaded install it and keep it working in the background, then run the unlocking apps again

or try this:

I have Busybox installed, but I have two versions, BusyBox free and BusyBox installer, don't know if it matters that I have the two of them.
I have went to a much lower version of it but GalaxSim Unlock still says it can't read nv data.
I tried that program also and it says my Video card isn't supported :S
And hit the restore button in Galaxy S 2 Unlock and GS2_Repair so I presume it got restored. Where should the efs folder be located so I can double check?

I also got 2 busybox (free 8.9.7 & installer 4.1).
GalaxSim Unlock should have a restore button, dunno the location of the back up, but the EFS folder should be in the data folder, u'll need a root explorer to get to it.

[Q] Quick question about flashing.

Hello,
I recently bought a GS3 and since it's "carrier blocked" as its not recieving any further updates since my carrier is not willing to pay for new firmwares, I was wondering if, when I flash a new official firmware with ODIN, such as in my case DBT (Germany's one)...do I have to do anything special after or before flashing, or is it just safe to go and fash the firmware?
Thanks
No, it will just become an unbranded phone if you flash the latest stock rom for your country, or branded with another carrier if you choose their firmware.
What it won't do is unlock the old carrier SIM lock, so you'll still have to use their network.
Follow the sticky guides on using odin, backup your efs and you'll be fine.
Edit: you might need to factory reset before you flash, depending on how old your current firmware is.
Carrier blocked ??? Do you mean the phone and its IMEI has been blocked by the carrier ??

Stuck On BOOTLOOP (read details)

it was previously on 4.1.2.
I flashed Omni 2.4 on s3.
It was not showing signals of network (In Pakistan)
went to sammobiles.com for new firmware.
it is international version so i took for south africa (as phone came from south africa) flashed that rom and it is stucked on BOOTLOOP.
i want to go on official 4.3/4.4.
tries searching on google but failed
if someone can help to make it run back
prefered 4.4 or 4.3 with network signals in Pakistan.
Forums says goto recovery . Volup+Home+Power is not working for me
i just can enter into download mode
Regards
Get a stock .tar.md5 package from www.sammobile.com and flash it using Odin. Then boot into recovery, restore to factory defaults, and clear cache then reboot. Everything should be working properly. If you lost network flash the latest NA8 modem file.

Do you have a modem (baseband) compatible with your region?
If yes, is your phone unlocked (to be used with any carrier)?
Think about this last question carefully. Unlocking through software (like the galaxy sim unlock app) can be lost when flashing latest firmwares because of the efs format change. That might be why you get not registered on network.
If your phone was unlocked through imei (with a code provided by the carrier) or if it was factory unlocked (never locked in the first place) then I don't know whats wrong with it, sorry.

[Q] How to Unroot Galaxy S2 i-777 ATT outside of USA ?

Hi all
I have a galaxy s2 i777 ATT - I can't find its own place on this forum so please forgive me if this in the wrong section
My S2 was unrooted and then I loaded omni kitkatt on it which locked my sim . big noob mistake I feel really dumb believe me.
Now I had unrooted it in the with odin and loaded Siyah ics to finally root it because the sim got locked. I live outside of the USA and nowhere near an ATT network. It has the CWM recovery on it
So all was well until someone ( my nephew ) decided to load omni again and then he loaded Carbon on it
The strange thing that is happening right now is that I do see Superuser in the settings but my sim is still locked I tried to use galaxys2 unlock but it doesnt do anything.
No biggie right but now it turns out my USB port is not working.
So here are my questions :
- How do i get my phone back to stock without a pc and root it (I live outside of the usa thats why I believe my sim gets locked ) so we can use the phone again to call
or
- Can I use mobile odin to load the stock version of android back on it and then unroot it again so I can unlock my phone ?
- Can I try to use frama root to check if my phone is really rooted and if so can it help root my phone ?
For now I'd just like to get it back to stock and root it ( so I can unlock my sim)
I need your help .
Thanks
Maddie
The good news is that you're in the right place, so welcome!
Next, I'm guessing you're still on Carbon? If so please look in System Settings >About Phone and please tell us the rom, kernel and modem version currently installed on your device. It's always good for us to know your full setup.
Regarding the sim issue I have virtually no experience with it, but I do know you can simply call AT&T and they should supply the unlock code (if you have a working phone, of course). You may have to supply your serial and IMEI #, both of which can be found on the battery, so probably best to have that handy if you call them.
You don't have to be on bone stock to unlock your phone, you just need the unlock code... and hang onto it for as long as you own your i777!
Have you tried the GalaxSim Unlock application? Here is a link to download the free version. You may find that you can unlock your rooted phone without flashing back to stock. I have limited experience with this application. I recently sold an AT&T SGH-I897 Captivate which I unlocked successfully with this app while it was rooted on stock Gingerbread. The purchaser wanted KitKat so I loaded CyanogenMod 11 onto it, and checked that the unlock was still present.
To answer your other questions:
I'm not sure why you are asking to "unroot" the phone after returning to stock. As far as I know, you need to be rooted to unlock the phone unless you have the unlock code from AT&T.
You can flash stock firmware with mobile odin. The stock package does not contain root, so your phone will automatically be "unrooted." If you go this route, I would suggest you use the I777UCMD8 stock tar from the Download Repository.
From stock UCMD8, you can successfully root the phone with Framaroot using the Aragorn exploit.

Hi thanks for helping out this is what I got:
CARBON-JB-NIGHTLY-20130929-0603-i777.zip
Kernel version
[email protected]#1sunsep2906:36:49 edt 2013
ROM: CWM based recovery v6.0.3.8
I cant find modem version
I'm in south America and I had bought the phone from the usa unlocked.
When Omni was loaded on the phone it locked my sim and I never had received an unlock code.
So when I went back to stock my sim still stayed locked so I rooted it again with Siyah ICS via odin so I could use galaxy unlock to get my sim working again.
How would I go about getting that unlock code for my sim from Att ?
Do you think I could email att ? I did find my serial number and imei #
The reason I wanted to go back to stock and than unroot it with the siyah ics kernel is because that seems to be stable for my phone.
Yes I have tried using galaxy unlock but it doesn't work it doesn't read the Imei nr and the sim stays locked
Honestly it looks like my phone is half rooted now
BTW the the sim being locked is more like a carrier locked I can't use the sim with my local telecommunnications company.
Thanks again.
