Hi,
I have this version of the Lumia 920: RM821_059Q9S2_1232.5951.1249.1005 .
Anyone know what vanilla ROM I have to use to remove all operator stuff (hub, logo etc.), if there even is a vanilla rom available?
Looked in NaviFirm but there are SO many roms (and they all look like coming from operators, non vanilla)?

Look for code RM-821 release 1232.5951.1249.1004 variant RM-821 GLOBAL BLACK SWAP
I said black cos mine is black, but you look for your color.
Thanks!
Just to be sure....it doesn't matter that my (black) Lumia 920 has code 1232.5951.1249.1005 and I will flash it with 1232.5951.1249.1004? Right now I'm using the Dutch Language....will I have issues using that when I get another Rom?
Do you also know if there are any known issues with this Rom? Like updates that aren't pushed, apps that don't work (like internet sharing) etc.?

Hi, other users may know if there are issues with that particular rom but if you are using your phone on a Dutch network you are probably better off looking for the unbranded Dutch rom as it should have correct network settings for Dutch operators! It may also be worth looking for the version before the latest release, that way you can check to see if that rom will receive ota update straight away.
If you don't like the rom you can always flash a different one?

The only rom that restricts languages, as long as I know, is from ATT, so that's not recommended and it's also difficult to install. Otherwise shouldn't be a problem, but better stick to European roms. I flashed a "global" marked rom and after that there was no option "4G" in maximum network speed.

hi guys,
First win mob device and please with the possible functionality of the device yet pretty dissapointed with the responsiveness (especially the keyboard lag, wtf!!!)
Can someone possibly answer a few questions with regards to using a custom rom?
1. Currently on Vodafone UK, thus using the default Vodafone rom. How do i back this up incase for any reason i need to revert?
2. I have read the thread here with regards to Hard-SPL, can someone please explain to me what the hell this, is this just a boot loader that allows me to boot different roms? What does SPL stand for?
3. What do the guides mean by flashing radios? Does that just mean using a different hardware driver than the one thats currently being used?
4. As mentioned in 1. i'm on vodafone uk, how do i ensure that when i've flashed to the new ROM that things like 3g etc work. Once i boot the new rom how to i tell it that im vodafone uk and not tmobile, orange, o2, etc...? What i'm trying to say is that how do i ensure the connection settings are correct for my country and network?
5. When using a custom rom will i still be able to sync with my works active directory for emails, calendar etc... Can currently do this on my stock vodafone rom, i'm presume this isn't going to be removed from the custom rom?
Once again guys sorry for all the Q's but i'd like to understand fully what im doing before i do it.
Thanks in advance to anyone here that offers help with my questions

1. Check the wiki, the voda rom should be there.
2. Yes. Hard-spl lets you flash any raphael rom.
3. Radios get the signal from the tower, if you have poor reception and battery life consider trying a different one. Many people use different radio's so most of the Roms do not contain one so that a person's radio isn't over written.
4. Most roms have "htc connection settings". It will recognize your sim and ask to run the correct settings for your network. It's a breeze. If for some reason your rom doesnt have it..search, there are tons of cabs for it here on xda.
5. Yes, activesync works perfectly.
Flash hard-spl and have fun.

Hello guys, I've got Nokia Lumia 920 from China with my friend's help. I was unable to install facebook, youtube & most of the apps, it just keeps on saying that this app is not available in your region though all those apps works in my friend's Lumia 800...
later i came to know that my phone is RM-822...
so can i do anything for this, to make it normal as other phones which r compatible to all apps...
may be debranding or changing RM numbers or product code stuff ?..
Have you tried changing the country/region setting to US?
What country is the Microsoft account you're using with the phone from?

It's probably because facebook and youtube are banned in China. So phones targeted for the Chinese market can't have those apps. maybe you can try to flash your phone with a RM821 firmware and maybe that will solve the problem..

is that possible to flash with RM-821 firmware. i think, phone will be not work ...someone in china have a try...:哭:
The Lumia 920T from China uses a different SoC with a different GPU than the US/EU-Versions (RM-820, RM-821) because it was the only Qualcomm Chip available that supports the Chinese 3G variant. Based on that I'm pretty sure that international ROMs will not work.

This might get it done but I'm not sure if rm-822 will support rm-821 firmware. Flash at your own risk. Seems like with this method you could always re-flash to rm-822 if it didn't work though. Good luck!

Hi Ellokomen.
Probably a stupid question, but what are the advantages of a developer ROM?
The Developer ROM has been there since at least November (as that's when I downloaded it)...
I don't know how significant it is, but there was never a Portico version of the Developer ROM before they were all pulled so it doesn't appear it's first on the list for updates if that is what you were thinking.

The portico version of the developer ROM is now available (see 1232.5951.1249.1002 - RM-821 VAR EURO1 Developer Device).
But again: what would be the advantage of flashing that to my phone?!?

Has anyone tried to flash this RM-821 ROM onto a RM-820 device? I know that technically they are different phones but you could flash the RM-819 (Lumia 800) onto a RM-801 without issue aside from perhaps a missing 3G band. But the 820/821 have exactly the same 3G bands just different LTE (which I don't care about) so it shouldn't be an issue right?

That's odd because when I tried to flash the RM-820 ATT Firmware to my international RM-821 Lumia Nokia Care Suite said that it's for a different model (or sthg like that) and then aborted the flashing process. This left my phone "soft bricked" - meaning that I had to re-flash it with a RM-821 ROM to get it working again.
I wonder if this Dev ROM might actually be a RM-820 ROM that is only (by mistake) labeled as RM-821?????
Has anyone tried to flash it to a RM-821 international model yet? Because from what I know the only Dev phones were RM-820 models and that always left me wondering why there is a Dev ROM for RM-821 but non for RM-820 when on the other hand there are only RM-820 Dev phones but no RM-821 dev phones.

It's not mistakenly mislabeled b/c nokia care suite now identifies my att lumia as a RM-821 (originally RM-820) and now in extras+info the manufacturer model name is RM-821_eu_euro1_425 so it's obviously designed as a european rom.

Well this makes me wonder whether RM-820 and RM-821 might actually be the exact same phone hardware wise with only some (artificial) lock preventing cross-flashing between those variants ...
Would be interesting whether you could flash other non-developer RM-821 ROMs to your RM-820 now and also if you could still flash it back to an RM-820 AT&T or Rogers ROM.

It shows the product code for the RM-821 dev rom and identifies it as RM-821.
edit: looked at the wrong place for the product code. It still has the original ATT product code but NCS still identifies it as an rm-821
I just tried to flash my att Lumia several times but just get the phone bricked and flashed back to att rom

Oddly the update menu entry is grayed out for me too but you can download a later version here:
http://www.seidea.com/2013/01/03/nokia-care-suite-pst-5-0-2012-51-4-4/
(don't forget to uninstall the old version before installing the new one!)
What @patrick92260 said about his phone now being identified as RM-821 and even with the Developer phone's product code makes it seem like he did not only flash the phone to a different ROM (with keeping the phone's original identity [model, product code] intact) but he also somehow managed to overwrite the part that holds those "phone identity information" with the ones of the Dev phone.
Maybe this has sthg to do with the version of NCS being used:
-the old version just flashed the ROM but didn't touch the "phone identity information", it allowed to flash to a different product code but refused to flash to a different model (RM-821/RM-820) and even after flashing to a different product code the phone still had it's original product code
-now the new version on the other hand might not only flash the ROM but might also overwrite the "phone identity information" with the ones of the ROM you are flashing and is thereby effectively changing the phones "identity" (model, product code) to the one of the ROM you're flashing.
This is just a theory of mine but when summing up the facts that:
-a few weeks ago I was unable to flash my RM-821 to an AT&T Portico ROM and now @alfaro58 tried it the other way round (flashing his RM-820 with an RM-821 ROM) and we both ended up "soft bricking" our phones and had to re-flash them with the "correct" model's firmware to un-brick them
-a few months ago sb tried to unbrand his Roges RM-820 by flashing an RM-821 ROM and he also ended up soft-bricking it and then had to wait for a few days until a RM-820 ROM became available on Navifirm before he could unbrick his phone by flashing one of those
[email protected] now basically did the same thing that other guy did a a few months ago (flashing an RM-820 with an RM-821 ROM) but instead of soft-bricking his phone it seems that he even managed to not only flash it with an RM-821 ROM but to actually make it an RM-821 phone.
All these facts kinda lead me to that assumption that it might have sthg to do with that new Nokia Care Suite version that was released earlier this month.
If I still had that buggy pre-Portico ROM on my Lumia I wouldn't hesitate trying to flash my RM-821 to a Rogers or AT&T ROM (because those seem to be first in line when it comes to updates - or at least they were this time) but with my phone now working perfectly with that RM-821 Entel ROM and me having several exams during the next few days I'm really not going to wipe my perfectly working phone just to prove this theory right or wrong - I hope you understand that.
@patrick92260 Which version of Nokia Care Suite did you use?
@alfaro58 Maybe you want to install the new NCS version and then try to flash your phone with the RM-821 firmware again using that updated NCS version?
Hello,
I am new to this forum. I am also new to flashing ROMs. I have recently installed Amber Update which made my Camera Quality terrible. I heard about flashing rom but never do that. One guy from another forum sent me link and tutorial how to downgrade my phone to GDR1. My questions are:
1. Do I lose warranty when I flash my phone?
2. Is it dangerous? Phone can stop working ?
3. Is it reversible? Can I hard reset to original ROM ?
4. Is it possible that ROM is virus and if yes, then how to check it?
5. This guy sent me a link to ROM with Variant Name : RM-885 VAR PL PTK CENTERTEL WHITE. How to know if its GDR1, is it working ? Is there any database with "checked and working" ROMs?
Sorry if some of the question are very simple but I am new and can't google it.
EDIT: please moderator move my topic here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/help, it is wrong place, sorry.
can you send the link to me too?
Hi, @MistyKuu
1. Do I lose warranty when I flash my phone?
Technically, yes, you will lose the warranty.
2. Is it dangerous? Phone can stop working ?
When driving a car, there is a risk that you have an accident. For flashing process, is the same.
3. Is it reversible? Can I hard reset to original ROM ?
You can quite flash the original ROM.
4. Is it possible that ROM is virus and if yes, then how to check it?
No, and in addition, the integrity of the Packages will be checked by Nokia Care Suite.
5. This guy sent me a link to ROM with Variant Name : RM-885 VAR PL PTK CENTERTEL WHITE. How to know if its GDR1, is it working ? Is there any database with "checked and working" ROMs?

Ok, he proposed you a branded ROM.
I advise you, it is the opposite that is to say an unbranded ROM.
But the unbranded ROM for 720 specific for Poland, it lacks your color (White). However you can flash a ROM of another color as your 720, because it does not change (only the default color?).
So I suggest you to flash 059S593 RM-885 VAR PL CV BLACK.

Unbranded, allows removing operators settings by changing of ROM. This allow get the options/features not "flanged" and generally have updates more quickly than if you were branded.
The color does not matter.

Hello,
i use the software XperiFirm to download firmwares for my Z5C.
I live in Austria but there are only three providers in the list from Austria.
I have a phone without any branding and i don't know which one i should use because i am not a user of any of this providers.
Is it possible to use for example the T-Mobile firmware even if i don't have a T-Mobile Sim Card?
And is it also possible to use a Firmware from another country?

there might be problem with sim card if you flash USA roms cause they more restriction & ...
but other than that you flash any official firmware with same android version.
:good:
Normally you can use any version for E5823.
The difference between the austrian roms are that providers pack some of their apps into the rom( like "a1 apps" or "mein a1" for example. If you want a rom without provider apps you can use the customized de version for germamy for example.
However you could of course run into a little problem by using a rom from another country that i had myself.
From what you said, i assume you are neither using a1, t-mobile nor drei as your provider. All of the other providers in austria like bob, hot or upc are using the network infrastructure of one of the those 3 big providers by national roaming.
However his could result in you to have allow roaming all the time to use mobile data. Could cause costs if you live near the boarder or if you forget to turn of when you leave country.
I had this problem with the customized de firmware for germany with which i got my device. My provider "Ge org" wasn't recognized correctly. After flashing the A1 firmware( Ge org is using A1 network) all works properly.

Hello, thanks for your answer.
My provider is HoT and it's using the infrastructure of T-Mobile. When i flash the T-Mobile Firmware do i still get the OTA updates and what about the warranty?

I also believe this should be the best choice for you.
If you stay unrooted you should have no problems with OTA updates. Warranty should be afaik no problem if you don't unlock your bootloader, which is not needed to install another stock rom. However i don't know for sure, cause i don't care much about warranty since i repair hardware issues on my devices by myself

Do i have to reset my phone before flashing? I currently have a firmware without branding and i want to flash the one with the T-Mobile branding.
Is it possible to flash it without a reset?

That's up to you.
A dirty flash should run and work properly. But a dirty flash (especially when your data and apps is the same as when you where using Android 6.0) can result in unexpected behavior:
- Crashing apps
- Wakelocks
- Battery drain
...
So it's always better to do a clean install when you upgrade to android 7.0
If you don't care about the possibility of instable behaviour or battery inefficiency, then a dirty flash (keeping your data/apps) will be much easier/faster.
