[Q] Galaxy s2 G variant network issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a weird issue and i need your help with it guys/gals
my phone doesnt allow me to connect to any network, it doesnt even ask for the sim pin lock code
the ONLY happens when i try to use an official stock rom
if i put a custom rom in it then all works well
i am lost right now, here are the things i did
checked the imie, its fine
works well with custom roms, have tried that already
put a different sim card and the same issue turned up
flashed official rom using odin after performing a data/wipe reset and all
the baseband shows up just fine
am i missing something?
Edit: just found out something new, when i go to security settings and change any of the sim stuff (lock or change pass) network works just fine
what's going on here
here's another thing, when i hold down the power button it just automatically shuts itself off, no options for some reason
Edit 2: after putting back the custom rom, i noticed that the imie changed to the 00499xxxxxxxxx whatever it is, so i flashed back the backed up efs and now imei is normal, does this mean anything? changing from stock to custom loses imei?

The shutdown syndrome is caused by not performing full wipe before installing jb. Clear all caches and reflash jb from scratch.
Edit: the 00499... iemi is a generic one, it's useless. Use only your own, from the backup.

what are you talking about??

In the i9100 official jb thread many complained about the shutdown menu issue. It's caused when the dalvik cache and factory wipe aren't performed before jb install.
I didn't notice that you're talking about the G model, and do not know if jb came out for this model.
Regarding the iemi - ignore this part, I read it in another forum, maybe it was related to a different device.

no offense, but did you even read my op?
i didn't mention anything about jb, i just said official rom, that's all
i'm talking about any official rom, all of them.
for some odd reason its ok with gingerbread
this is what i do before installing,
full data wipe/factory reset, cache wipe, dalvik
pull battery, download mode
install rom,
i even tried to put gingerbread and let keis upgrade it but it gives me the same issue after it becomes ics or jb

Maybe modem issue.
What modems you've used when in custom ROM?
If GB worked without these issues flash it's modem when on ICS.

Freezing on Me At All Times

Pretty much copy and paste, but I have updated it with latest info.

So this is weird... In four days, the ROM or phone has froze on me about half a dozen times now. The first time when I was setting it up by as I had just done a flash of the ROM. While setting it up, the phone decided to suddenly slow down all of a sudden to a crawl, up to the point where everything started to get washed out and freeze on me. Force restart by holding Volume Up + Power was the only solution to fix it. Just now, my sister had it connected to her computer and was transferring music over into the internal SD when suddenly, the same thing happened. Again, only solution was to force restart. Anyone have this happen to them before? Everything is completely stock except that we're on Dorimanx 5.3 kernel. Then the other times, it would either slow down and freeze in the CWM Recovery Menu, or when she is texting, playing games, etc. There aren't that many apps installed at all. Reflash of kernel doesn't solve the problem.

Could it be that I need to flash the phone with official ICS + bootloader + PIT? I jumped straight from stock Gingerbread to custom ICS.

try doing a wipe data/factory reset as that is normally a fix to these kind of problems. Also clear cache and dalvik and that should fix the problem!

Do not use the .pit file unless you understand 100%sure about what you are doing. That's probably the easiest way to bork your device.
Edit: try flashing a different kernel. Try dark knight or fluxi. I think it would solve your issues

I would get an official rom, and flash it with odin, (no repartition is required) then install your fav. custom rom

I can't wipe data/factory reset in CWM for some reason when I first tried to install the custom ROM. Never tried again... I wonder if it's because my I9100 is brickable.
I have cleared cache and dalvik cache but no luck. It even slowed down and froze in CWM Recovery.

I know what I'm doing. Flashed with PIT many times before on my Captivate. Haven't tried PIT on her I9100 though. I haven't broken my phone with PIT yet, even though there's quite a few PITs out there lol.
I've read of others running the same combo as me, but they're fine so I wonder what else could cause this...

The ICS ROM from the Q&A Sticky should work right? Her I9100 is brickable so.... Gotta be careful.
Flash a stock rom, go to sammobile.com and find one then try again?

format cache/data/system , then make all wipes , then put your phone in download mode , flash a stock ROM from samfirmware.com , then root your phone !
Running the latest Dorimanx 5.5 kernel and still getting the same problem. In fact, I noticed that if you set it to Performance under Kernel Tweaks in Recovery, the problem is more apparent. Setting it to default causes the issue too.

[Q] AOKP Data Network Problem

hello, im making this thread because after doing a lot of reading, i still didnt find any clues on how to solve my problem.. i apologize in advanced if im bothering everyone with what could posibly be a stupid problem, but ill take the risk since i havent found a way to fix this on my own.
i have a att sgs 2 sgh i777 and i was using Shostock 2 rom for a while, then i wanned to try a jelly bean rom so i flashed AOKP JB 4.1.2 (last build 12.2.2012) and found out that even tho i have full H+, when i access browser (stock and Opera), play store, or facebook app they dont load, and the weird thing is that i can get notifications (like whatsapp). im guessing it has something to do with modem or APN, but my APN's are fine and nobody else is having problems with the modem that AOKP JB comes with so... i was wondering if anyone could give me some kind of help to solve this.
when im using wifi, everything works, play store, facebook, browser, etc but when i switch to my data network, i can only seem to receive push notifications
hope u guys could help me
You're using att?
Shostock and aokp are very different roms.
Did you full wipe?
Format system also recommend.

When you say fully wiping what do you mean by that? Alot of people are not doing it right and this leads to issues. Modems are on a personal level of try a few and see. Do some research on logcats. Logcat is Android troubleshooting 101. Please make sure you understand what your doing before you do it. Messing around without understanding could lead you to a paper weight.
When wiping make sure to format system and data, then do a factory reset and then a cache wipe then install rom.
Are you restoring anything?

That's not the correct way to wipe and there was never a 4.0.4 for the i777 unless you mean custom ROMs.

A factory reset will not replace the rom you flashed. You are gonna have to find the stock GB rom and flash that to get back to stock

[Q] Wifi Crashing after Jelly Bean Update

Hello guys.
After spending several hours of search and review, I was unlucky to find the information I need. It could be my poor search skill, so my apologies if this is a repeated question.
My S2 is from Bell.
Today my Galaxy S2 got an update to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (I9100MUGMA5). First, it gave me SIM NETWORK LOCK issue. I did a research here, and found that it means the phone is LOCKED again. So I had to unlock it. (Did rooting first and locked with GalaxSim Unlock) Since then, everything seems to be okay and working fine with an exception of one problem.
When it attempts to connect to wifi, it crashes and reboot itself and it repeats several time until it's finally connected. I tried a few different things but it's got nothing to do with data on/off. It seems solely to be wifi problem.
I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue I have here.
Should I downgrade to ICS?
What have you tried exactly?

Yeah, I tried the wifi at work today, same issue.
I'm not sure if I deleted that account, but it usually didn't ask me to enter the password to login the wifi, it automatically connects when within the area. But now, it asks me to login everytime wifi is on.
Not sure if I answered your questions. Sorry, not an expert, but having a huge frustration. Thought this jelly bean would be awesome.... :crying:

Spending more than half a day to figure out this issue, I don't even know what I'm doing here, so I reboot and wipe data/factory reset.
It went back to factory ICS 4.0.3. Good thing I did backup all data before I did that, so didn't really lose anything.
Now I'm thinking if I want to try Jelly bean again....

Yea, everything is back to normal (ICS 4.0.3) now. Wifi working okay.
Now, (since it's wiped and factory reset) I will probably update to JB again, see if it works properly this time.
The good thing is that, now I know that I can go back to the ICS in the worst case by wiping and factory reseting.

Lol, factory reset sets your current ROM's settings to default.
Remember when you flashed JB? You had to select language, google account and all that. Factory reset takes you to that instance.
FACTORY (ROM by Google) RESET (Settings back to default).
When I said reboot into recovery I meant Recovery mode, so you could get your JB ROM the way Google set it to work, no user configurations whatsoever, WiFi included

Problem resolved and here's what I did.
1. Downgrade to ICS using Odin.
2. Wipe and factory reset in recovery mode
3. Upgrade to JB using Kies.
There's tons of posts regarding downgrading to ICS. I just picked one and followed the instructions. It gave me an issue that the phone freezed at the booting logo (I guess it's called bricked??), so I just wiped and factory reset the phone that lead to the stock ICS.

[Q] No signal, still have IMEI

My S2 has the no signal icon showing. This happened after the phone crashed using a custom rom about a week after installation.
Since then to fix it i have restored my nandroid backup to the previous rom, restored it back to an official firmware/kernel. Even tried different modems but still i have no signal. I have checked and the phone still retains the correct IMEI number that is on the phones original box.
Anyone have an idea what could be causing it or could it even be a hardware fault?
Try to re-flash your regions/carriers modem+ril. But first, try with a different SIM card, maybe your SIM died.

[Q] Flashed wrong rom, can't wipe anymore or boot into a backup

Hey there,
Today I received an MHL-adapter for my Galaxy S3 and wanted to try it out. Since it didn't work in combination with Slim Bean I decided to flash another rom (more on the sammy side of things). Coming across a thread with a guy pointing out a so called Chameleon crossover rom, I decided to give it a go, downloaded and flashed it. I shat bricks as I saw that, in my euphoria to try the adapter, I flashed a rom that was meant to be for the Galaxy S2!
So I restarted into recovery and tried to perform a full wipe, which didn't work, because it wasn't able to load the partitions (data etc.) then I tried to flash on a recent backup of Slim Bean, which was only partly succsessfull, meaning, that it flashed but couldn't wipe because of the reason mentioned above.
Booting into system doesn't work either, I just get a bootloop.
Right now im not quite sure, which step to take. Shall i flash on a clean stock-image via Odin or maybe try out something like One-Click UnBrick?
All your help and suggestions are highly appreciated!

Thank you so much for the quick response, I'm going to check whether it works and report back after it's done! :good:
G'Luck
Problem solved, thanks rootSU!
So, if someone is following this thread, I just want to share with you guys what I did and how it turned out:
I flashed the original firmware, according to region etc. via Odin, the procedure was succsessfull and I rebooted.
At first I had a bootloop, so I went into the stock recovery and hit "wipe /data and /cache", which was succsessfull as well, meaning that the previous problem with not being able to mount the partitions was resolved. So I went ahead and rebooted again aaand it booted!
Everything is working fine as far as i can tell, no misfunctions, hot reboots or anything similar.
Thanks very much for the quick response rootSU, which prevented me from hyperventilating .
I've rooted, unlocked bootloader and flashed stuff on my former phones (Htc Wildfire, Galaxy S) and I've never done anything like that before and nothing like that ever happened to me. So to anyone reading this, I highly encourage you not to be as dumb as me and to doublecheck what rom you're flashing and not to flash while being overly exicted about anything .
Does your adapter now work?
