Tampered/Security warning, - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Okay this is my second evo ( i had the 4g ) And this rooting process is pissing me off.
I have root(Determined by a root checking app), But i can't flash anything, because when while rebooting, it stops and goes into a "Tampered" Bootloader screen, that says Security warning.
Anything i can do to assure S-OFF?
I can't quite seem to find anything on it.

Pretty sure you need to be unlocked. Then, when you boot into bootloader, you will come to the same screen you are now. You need to hit volume down and select recovery, then power. On a side note forget CWM recovery and use TWRP. You really should go S-Off also. Check out the original development section for such things.
Edit : I attached a pic of what you should see before recovery after power and vol down. (I'm S-Off though)

no no no!!! clockwork mod recovery does not work on this phone.. it messes up your misc partition!! DO NOT use clockworkmod recovery with the evo 4g lte.. u have to flash twrp recovery

Sht, I'll definately get TWRP, and such.

When i try to go to fastboot, the buttons on the bottom flash 12 times, anyone?

I think they actually flash 15 times and yes, completely normal before shutting off from holding the power button. There is a ton of root related information in these forums, take a look and figure out what you need for your specific setup etc. Sounds like you are on the right track and with what the other posters told you..

You're supposed to lose root...just flash a custom recovery and then a custom ROM, then you'll be done.

[HOW TO] Return to 100% stock 1.13.651.7 / ROM - Recovery - S-ON!

This method will only work for people that have hboot 1.4. If you are on hboot 1.5, which is the Sprints latest OTA as of 8/18/2011 then this will not work for you! Warning, never accept OTA's!
I am writing this because I had to do it. I hosed my phone and could not get it to boot into OS. I did get it to boot into hboot, and fast boot. This will work if you can get that far.
1. Download the stock ROM ZIP image from here: Sprint Stock ROM Image v 1.1.3.651.7
2. Copy it to SD Card
3. Reboot phone into hboot mode by holding volume down and then press power. Keep volume down held until you boot into hboot mode.
4. In hboot mode the phone will scan the SD card with the image. Once it finds it will ask you if you want to update. Press "Power" to update.
5. Wait.... For a while. When it gets to "system" it will loop a few times. Its quite nerve wracking actually but after about 5 or 6 times it will complete.
6. Once the entire flash is complete it will prompt you to "press power to reboot." Press power and your phone will reboot to 100% stock ROM.
7. Once the phone has been flashed you will need to set the secure flag on the radio for S-ON to do this use "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" Make sure you are in fastboot menu. To do this power down and hold power down while powering up and select fastboot. I have attached the fast boot and adb files to the post.
**This has only been tested on with TeamWin recovery and phone was already at the v 1.13.651.7
Hit the THANKS button if I just helped you get back to square one! lol
Thanks for this.

It unroots because you are returning to 100% stock image and recovery.
It does retain s-off. I thought it would turn s-on but it didint...
I am also not sure if you would need to rerun the S-off "fix" or if you could just flash teamwin recovery. Be cautious until I find out. I will pop in the revx chan and ask to see if what they think.

FYI: Ok, although it says s-off it wouldn't let me write the recovery so I had to reapply the s-off fix from revolutionary. Works good now though!

Some phones shipped s-off so I imagine you could use that as an argument. I doubt they will fight you too hard.
Just a FYI, the mode you boot into and let it scan the card for the PG86IMG is not recovery mode, but hboot. Not bashing because I appreciate the effort here scrosler, I am just trying to keep this as unconfusing(is that a word?) as possible, because recovery is actually Clockwork or TWRP.

Point taken. Post updated. If I have used the wrong word again please let me know. Very tired. havent slept since the release of s-off and twrp Im sure you can understand that...
And no.. unconfusing is not a word... well it is because you just posted it but its not a recognized word. You could say "least confusing" in replace of your "unconfusing" lol
But either way, that was good catch. Thanks!
Ok, I updated the op to include the S-ON command string. Big thanks to rtbluver for pointing that out!
So with this, would I be able to send in my unit for repairs? I have camera freezing issues, so I may just bite the bullet and send it in soon.
Thanks for this!
Just a heads up for those looking to return, the AlphaRevX/Unrevoked method puts "revolutionary" above the S-off notation in hboot, so that might be a dead giveaway to Sprint that your phone didn't ship S-off. Best to get back to S-on to be safe.
getting this error:
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.008s]
finished. total time: 0.008s
i'm pretty sure everything is installed correctly as far as drivers and sdk goes. just for good measure i uninstalled and reinstalled fastboot drivers from the revo wiki and the sdk. so when i go into the directory where the adb and fastboot files are, i enter "fastboot devices" and it sees my device... don't really know whats going on, not that i need to return phone, yet, but just want to learn to get it back to s-on just in case. a little frustrating right know. its gonna b a long night...
edit: i tried to run the revol s-off tool again and when i enter the beta key it says that my device software is not supported at this time... another road block.
I'm getting the same error, and the bad news is, I need to return my device
Everyone seems to get it. Sorry guys. Im sure someone will find out how to do it.

I did this method and the Revolutionary logo up top went away. It does say S-OFF though, so we may be able to fool HTC in telling them that it was shipped that way.
I don't know. I rather just revert back to normal since I want to send this unit in for repairs soon.
Use this command "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" instead of "fastboot oem setsecureflag 3" This will turn S-ON and it worked for me!

Need help asap phone stuck in h-boot

Ok so i have an HTC Amaze 4g on tmobile and i think its on 2.3.4 So anyways i rooted it about a week ago and around 2 days ago i decided to get a custom rom. i followed instrucctions to the dot on how to flash the roms and all but it would never work it would just reboot. I read another tutorial suggesting to Back up all the info and then wipe it in ClockworkMod Recovery So I did. Yet it still didnt work. eventually i got stuck in ClockWorkMod recovery so i took the battery out and NO MATTER what i did if i rebooted powered down or even factory reset i would just go into ClockWorkMod. Now i cant even get into ClockWorkMod. When i turn on my phone it goes straight to h-boot and NO MATTER WHAT I CLICK IN H-BOOT IT GOES STRAIGHT BACK TO H-BOOT ive clicked every option and it vibrates says htc then goes right back to h-boot. If i even click power down in H-Boot it will go black then back to h-boot. I have no idea if my phone is bricked or what. Ive had plenty of experience hacking IOS but this is my first time with android and i found it quite confusing. also i do not care if i have to unroot i have already relocked the bootloader soo. This is what my Htc amaze 4g currently says in H-Boot:

HBOOT
and of cousre the options displayed are: Fastboot, Recovery, Factory Reset, Clear Storage, SimLock, Image CRC
and in Fastboot the options are: Bootloader, Reboot, Reboot Bootloader, Power Down.
Any help is accepted Thanks guys!!!
you will have to put the recovery back onto your phone through fastboot then when you get into the recovery mode, restore the nandroid backup you were supposed to make. then everything should work properly so you can try again
Can u plz be more detailed with that lol im new to android

Need Help please. Trying to get to hboot

I held the volume down key then held power button down. While holding the volume down & releasing the pwr button it only booted normally.
I noticed while holding both buttons down when trying again that the soft keys blink at the bottom. I hit the Home key in the middle and now every time it boots it says "SAFE MODE" in the bottom left of the screen. I tried repeating the same procedure, but it still boots while displaying "SAFE MODE" on the lower left of the screen.
I could still never get in bootloader mode.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I should add that I did use the RUNME method for rooting the phone a couple of days ago. This morning I installed the apk GOOManager to install TWRP. When I select reboot to recovery, it would say I need to do it manually which was why I started to do the steps I described above.

I'm a bit confused if we don't have S-OFF & it's still locked is it like the 3D with a locked bootloader?
Crap..then I chose to go into RECOVERY & it shows the small icon of the phone with a red triangle over it with the exclamation mark. Can't pull the battery! How do I restart it! Darn it... shouldn't have messed with it! I've rooted a dozen phones before this...
Well, it eventually rebooted on it's own. Whew. patience! It no longer says safe mode either which is good. I wanted to make a backup image with TWRP before trying other ROMS. I'm not sure what gives & why after using GooManager in didn't seem to install.

I never had a 3D, so I can't really help you there. Have you unlocked your bootloader through HTC Dev or did you just run the One Click Root from the development section? I ask because in order to install a custom recovery, you must have your bootloader unlocked, which only HTC Dev can do right now.
I used the one click method from the dev section watching the vid on Hack.com or whatever it was... using the RUNME.BAT

Yea, that's the problem, you must unlock your bootloader in order to install a custom recovery. Although I'm not sure if you can do the HTC Dev process with a "Tampered" bootloader. You might have to un-root first.

just hold down power for like 10 sec and it will hard reboot
it didnt install because your bootloader is still locked, you just have software level root.
Thanks for the help guys! I didn't know the one click method still left it locked. I'll do the HTC method then. I did that with my 3D...even though the bootloader was still locked...

So, I'm assuming you've never seen a stock recovery. The phone with the red triangle after you select recovery from the bootloader shows that first. As an added precaution, you then must hold vol. + and press power and it will boot into the real recovery. In order to flash any fancy ROMs or anything, you need to install a custom recovery. At present, TWRP is recommended due to it having the /misc partition error corrected.

Ok. You need to run the RUU or something. Sounds like there IS a ROM on there because it wouldn't show tampered if the filesystem didn't have root.
Have you tried using the htcdev unlock again on it?
You'll need to either run a RUU or unlock and flash a stock recovery and boot image. The security warning is because you have S-ON and are using a modified kernel/recovery.
Yes the S-on is active Tried RUU get error 140. dont know what HTC Dev other than Regraw. that doesnt work either! Keeps saying not Evo 4g lte
The 140 error, I believe, is from having a bad connection. You may need to reinstall and then uninstall htc sync to get the proper drivers before it'll work.

Maybe your not asking the question correctly. You say you can't see hboot or recovery. Are you trying to get the phone into bootloader? If so pull your battery put backin then hold volume down and power button. This will load into bootloader. If your just attempting to get the phone rooted then yes the tool I posted will root the phone. If your wanting to be able to change some of the permissions then you will need to install superuser. Hopefully this helps. If not maybe someone else can figure out what you are wanting to do......
I cannot see HBOOT or Recovery.
My display is not working correctly for some reason. I have flashed the stock RUU and unlocked the bootloader via the toolkit.
Now I am stuck because I cannot see the recovery screen to actually install the superuser.zip that the toolkit put onto my sdcard.
Do you see what I am saying here?
If I could simply see my HBOOT and recovery screens I would have this phone rooted in 1 minute. I am looking for a way to root manually via adv or another method because I cannot see the recovery screen to know what buttons to click.

I'm no mean an expert here but reading your frustration posts since yesterday, here's my 2 cents, you may want to try it or wait for more suggestion from others
* I've read somewhere that some "Demo" phone came with a "Demo" Rom, which, has no Hboot and Recovery
* Read this post and try to flash an ENG Hboot onto your phone. ENG Hboot for Amaze 4G can be found in the S-Off thread
* After suscessfully flashed ENG HBoot using ADB command, you can then use fastboot to flash back to stock then root normally or using AIO Toolkit again to flash custom Recovery

Ignore this please, since ENG Hboot can only be flash when S-Off'ed. I really have no worthy suggested at this point and sorry for that

There is a tool called Android Flasher (Google it) which you can use to flash Hboot onto your phone. As for the Hboot I think you can pulled it out from Stock RUU using 7Zip. Once you have Hboot on the phone, the rest will be easy. I think maybe your phone was a Demo one, which, unfortunately doesn't come with Hboot and Recovery hence the reason it doesn't "update" Hboot and Recovery when flashing RUU
I have already flashed an RUU which completed successfully. Would this stock RUU still not flash HBOOT on my phone?
I am using the phone to type this.
I can power off and then hold vol down and power and the phone will do flash a red notification light up top. If I press down volume once then power it will reboot but I of course only see a.black screen.

No it wont change it. It can only be changed after s-off. I would try to s-off. Jbear gives the option to flash a different hboot at the end of a successful s-off. Then hopefully you can finally get this thing rolling.
Definately will.
I thought root was a prereq for s off though. I'll be trying it anyways.

It's good to know that you are - at least - still have a Rom on your phone.
I think the reason why you don't have HBoot and recovery when flashing RUU is because what RUU does is just "updating" whatever img that your phone has on it and when it didn't detected Hboot and recovery, it just skipped updating those img. Long story short, I guess you are lacking HBoot and recovery on your phone. We may simply solv this by flashing stock Hboot and recovery onto the phone using tool such as Android Flasher. Again, I'm no expert on this and has never tried this before so take it with a grain of salt and do some research before give it a go, or, you can wait a little longer to get others' opinion. I don't want to be the one who bricked your phone by giving poor advices.
Be patient, at least you have a fully functional phone for now.
I edited this out...
Good luck

I cannot see HBOOT or Recovery.
My display is not working correctly for some reason. I have flashed the stock RUU and unlocked the bootloader via the toolkit.
Now I am stuck because I cannot see the recovery screen to actually install the superuser.zip that the toolkit put onto my sdcard.
Do you see what I am saying here?
If I could simply see my HBOOT and recovery screens I would have this phone rooted in 1 minute. I am looking for a way to root manually via adv or another method because I cannot see the recovery screen to know what buttons to click.

Now I totally understand... I think . Never have heard of this happening or have read where someone has lost the bootloader but yet phone still boots. There is the command with Hasoon's Amaze tool that will put your phone in the bootloader screen. If your still not able to view if you have tried this then hopefully someone else might have an answer for you as I have no other ideas to get you into the bootloader screen and making it visable. Good luck!

I already told you how to get root in your other thread using 4ext recovery app.
Also, you don't need to root to flash a different rom.
Just do what i said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38165221

hboot screen looks like this...
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
power down
the screen starts with the "bootloader" already selected...push volume down
1 time to select reboot
2 times to select reboot bootloader..etc etc...
push power to MAKE/activate the selection.
4ext recovery is touch based and since you cant see you may want to install clockwork mod from the market as you use the volume buttons for this too!
but i dont use it...(but i have! on this phone!! I just dont know how good it works reliable flashing etc)
maybe get a spare sd card and format it so we all know its blank.
then place the right file on the card
so we know its the only file
then you can count the volume clicks to the right choices.
heres hope for you buddy!... my suspicions are as follows.
flashing a different hboot using
the linked hassoons toolkit then CWM then a reboot may return your screen to power on during the times you need it...
BUT BUT BUT!!!!
i do not know if that is advisable or bad or perfectly fine...anyone else know?????
