im working on a galaxy sIII, paranoidandroid 2.99, kt747 kernal.
i think i may have screwed myself by deleting the nandroid, but this is what i'm looking to do.
i've got some important info i'm trying to retrieve from a mybackup app/data backup. the info was on a "sticky note" widget on my desktop when i did a backup.
when i wipe then start from scratch, i tried restoring the app + data, then restore apex launcher (the launcher i used that had the widget on it), i would think that when i go to restore apex launcher desktop data/apex settings, it would repopulate the launcher with the previously existing widgets/icons/etc.
it doesn't. it restores the icons that were backed up and their location; but no widgets.
is there a way to get the widget to reappear with the info it had on it when it was backed up or am i SOL?

I haven't found any specific threads on saving icons between flashes, so here my question is. If it is somewhere else, please direct me.
So, I've been avidly following various ROMs and am accustomed to flashing, swapping kernals, using NvFlash if need be, and using Titanium Backup, however, I find it incredibly tedious to reload all of my programs through Titanium Backup by batching and going through the install process for 100ish apps each time. So firstly, is there any way to have Titanium Backup automatically install my apps (and only ask permission once)? Secondly, is there any way to save my user layout so I don't have to drag all my icons and widgets back to their respective locations? Thanks.
pay for the pro version of Titanium, you can then restore your apps in 2 clicks.
as far as icons and display setups, I use launcher pro, that has a backup/restore option...just need to save the files before wiping. It worked pretty well, the first time I used it...I just need to remember to reinstall the widget color themes and icon packs before restoring the backup, or it won't find them...lol
I also use circle widget and it also has a backup/restore option.
So, if I load a new rom, I'll restore apps from titanium backup (pro version can do batch restores) then restore circle widget backups, then launcher pro, and it's "mostly" back to the way it was...just a few tweaks and I'm done.
A little FYI for you guys:
I use ADWLauncher EX, it also has the desktop and launcher settings backup/restore facility that TJEvans mentioned, but lately, I've noticed that on CM-7.0.3, after I do a "wipe cache partition" and "Wipe Dalvik Cache" in ClockworkMod, the desktop layout will be preserved, but, the widgets will all fail to load. I will see the grey boxes where the widgets are supposed to go, but, no widgets will actually be loaded into them.
So, I looked around on the gTablet and found that the widget list is stored in /data/system/appwidgets.xml, and this file, for some reason, gets reset to a default state after I wipe stuff in ClockworkMod. Now, I backup that xml file and put it back into place if my widgets don't load.
Hi everybody,
maybe a noob question, but I hope you can answer it :
I have backed up my device with Titanium Backup (both applications and system) and reset to factory defaults. I have already restored applications, worked fine. But how can I restore only desktop (homescreen) settings with all the folders, icons, their positions etc.?
I have already tried to restore all files (apps and system) and it restored the homescreen almost perfectly. But there are some reasons/issues, why I cannot do it that way now.
Thank you for your help.
I would suggest just putting them back in a random order-it will keep things exciting when you use your phone
You should have backed up APPS+User Data. Only this way it will restore the positions on the home screen.

I have.
I have already solved it. But it is not in the APPS or APPs User Data. I had to restore only TWlauncher and its Data.
Anyway thank you.
I have the same request but there is no TWlauncher backed up - wonder what that is... there are numerous other system apps+data backed up in Titanium backup... I'd like to restore home screen settins and all other sense settings. apps+data are fine already

If you are talking about HTC sense you are in the wrong forum, TWlauncher is touchwizz launcher, the stock launcher used by samsung touchwizz on in this case, the samsung galaxy s2 i9100.
Go find the right forum and ask there

Put filter on sys apps and search for launcher, you could find TouchWiz Home ....... , then restore data only.
I did this on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Sanmsung stock ROM.
So I've seen this question in other forums but just not here on Galaxy 10.1 Tab Forums yet. Here's the deal...
If possible what app can I use to backup my homescreen settings (I've spent a lot of time on one recently)? I have Titanium Backup, but will that do the trick for this? Should I look at a different backup utility such as SGS?
Thanks as always for the help guys!
I take it no one has had success backing up their homescreen yet?
Your homescreen is the Launcher2.apk app. Backing it up via Titanium Backup will backup the current layout and how you have everything set up.
HOWEVER, due to an Android limitation, it will not backup any widget placement/settings you have. There is no way around that unfortunately.
Your best bet is to make a nandroid backup via CWM and then restore that if need be. Of course that would be a complete restoration of everything but it's the only way to back it all up.
Don't know of any way to do this. I know with Launcher Pro you can backup screens and settings, but widgets are never saved.
I restored my phone with TB. All applications came back, but no data or system settings- no SMS, all desktops have no icons or widgets, etc...
Is there any way to get it back?
I have an older nandroid backup, which I hope would have almost everything, but I'd prefer to get my settings back without it.
What option did you use to restore? You should do the full system data + apps unless your using the exact same rom. And if you just restore apps and not system data there are some files that you can restore to get your sms back. I don't remember their name but they are green colored when you scroll through what got backed up. Titanium should be able to restore the apps data like saved games and such.
I upgraded Clean ROM from 2.5 to 2.7 wiping only cache. 2.78 was slow, sometimes it would take 5 seconds just to change orientation. So I decided to wipe cache and data to see if it helps. It did, but at a price
When backing up and restoring I used "apps+data" option, the most complete I could find. And all my apps restored fine, but all call logs and SMS were gone, as well as login credentials for market apps, bookmarks in audiobooks and web browser, wallpaper, desktop theme, icons, widgets, you name it.

Did you Reboot after you did the TB Restore?
Try restoring your apps first then reboot. Then open up tb and then choose the batch option and then restore all the data. Maybe that might help "might"
Locked & Loaded
""Shooter on Deck""
Thanks, guys. I ran into additional problems because I overfilled the SD card, but it looks like rebooting put me on the right path.
Hey all,
I'm interested in checking out the CM9 Kang that's going around in the threads, but I just recently updated all my folders in ADW Launcher EX. Is there a way to save the folders so when I flash the kang, I can have the folders with the apps in them re-populate? This would also help so I can flash back to Galaxy Task, etc. I have Titanium Backup but I'm not sure if it can save the folders.
Yeah, I know I could just re-do the folders, but I'm lazy and it takes a while when you have 200 apps
Thanks!
ADW Launcher EX can backup and restore your settings and the desktop configuration: [ADWSettings > Backup and restore], but if you're using Titanium Backup, restoring the data will have the same effect.
I have a problem restoring widgets from other apps in ADW via the desktop configuration backup or Titanium Backup (widget not found) every time a do a full wipe and flash a ROM, but the folders (with apps) inside the dock are restored without a problem.
I suppose that if your folders are in the desktop there won't be a problem at the moment you restore your configuration. Just remember that the icons of every app inside the folders will appear after you restore/reinstall the apps (for some, maybe after a reboot)
+1 for titanium backup. Proof that you own that should almost be a prerequisite to reading the Dev forum here. Imagine how much heartache would be saved if you needed to provide proof that you'd done a recent backup before reading any of the ROM threads!....
