I did search and only found couple people saying theirs is not working, my question was does anybody know how to fix? All that I seen was said was to download scan media and try that. Mine does not read at all won't pick up my pictures or music even if it scans and also no way to access it with file explorers. The page you linked me to only had wifi questions on it.
Check /storage
My external card showed up under /storage/external_SD. Did you check that location?

^This. Use something like ES or root explorer and go up a level and there should be a folder called storage with an External_SD folder inside (or something of the like) and another called sdcard0 that goes to the internal SD
This also should have been posted in the Q&A section, for future reference.

hope this helps
is this what u meant? i've heard that some people were having this issue and that if u flashed the 2 files in this post that it fixed the sd card not being read. after i flashed these 2 fixes and ran scan media all my pix showed up in the stock gallery

yes I did check under external_sd that directory is there, but doesn't take you to the card. It's just an empty folder, also the same from computer.
tried this also

I ran those two zips, and everything is still the exact same. If you go to external_sd it just says this folder is empty. When you plug into computer and access it says "device has stopped or doesn't exist".
more info
I don't know if this is relevant to anything, but external_sd has the wrong date it was created it shows 1/2/1970. Just thought I should mention this.
have u tried putting the sd card in a different device and reformatting it to make sure its not the card? Or tried using a different card in the phone?

As I said earlier /sdcard/external_sd is empty for me as well. However /storage/external_SD is where the content shows up. If the card is empty when you mount it in the computer, it may well be empty or corrupt. Formatting (erasing all content) may be necessary.

Yes I just looked there its empty as well, and media scanner can't find anything. and per vinniemac84 instructions, I removed the card put in adapter and put in computer everything is on it, I also just put the original 16gb card in phone which was removed from phone the day I got it and tried to create a folder in both places and it tells me could not create directory. Also in setting under storage it shows nothing about an external card no options to mount it or size or anything. usually even if you don't have a card in the phone it will show the option to mount a card.

After a bad flash my Vibrant is not seeing my internal sd card.
Is there a way to reformat?
Settings -> SD card and phone storage -> under phone storage select Format SD card.
Before you do that I would try flashing the mounting fix that was posted a while back in clockwork though. That might help.

Hitting Format SD card under the phone storage part of the screen will format the internal memory. If that doesnt work you should odin back to stock and reflash whatever ROM you want.
Formatting storage card does nothing.
Odin back to stock then reflash your ROM.

Already done that twice.
Hence my question.
Is there a way ie through adb to format the internal Sd/storage memory
This thread is relevant to my interests.
I have attempted to odin, and heimdall back to stock, but either the guide here on XDA is severely outdated, or something is wrong with my vibrant.m (followed steps to a T, but to no avail)
I am extremely technologically adept so anyone willing to talk me through this won't be assisting grandpa through a reformatting, and re-installation of the latest version of windoze operating system on their virus ridden store bought PC so to speak, but rather would be helping out a fellow modder restore his phone, and squeeze a few more months out of it before being forced to upgrade.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
//edit
obviously i can get into the bootloader, recovery, and download mode, but cannot load any rom because i get the error cannot write to lums message.
I too flashed probably once too many times, and something corrupted my internal SD card on my SGS Vibrant, and there's no way to reformat it that I know of.
Are you locked out of the internal SD ie the EU bug?
What ROM were you running when you tried Odin?
Does Odin recognize your device, do you have a lighted com port?
Which version of Odin did you try?
Which files did you plug in on Odin?
And have you tried the AIO toolbox?
No tickee, no laundry!
sorry I didn't see this reply earlier, but since my last posting I bit the bullet and upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
I would however like to see if I could still repair my vibrant for use as another android phone to play with. Odin, etc. all recognize and will flash my phone, but in cwm I can't flash any roms. I it says something about unable to write to lums?

I am having an issue with my SD card
If i attempt to move a file from the Internal storage to the external storage it will not move and if it does it ends up not working.
I can intermittently save files from the browser to the SD card but most of the time it fails. I have tried to use Boat Browser and the stock browser
Any Suggestions or is this happening to anyone else
It's an sdcard permissions issue, my galaxy 7 plus had it. I know my note 2 has it as well. Since we are on JB I believe you can use the fix for the s3 (on JB) for the note 2. I have not gotten around to doing the fix for it yet, but you need to be rooted to do it.

You might have to do what I did.
First backup any data from the SD card to your PC if you need it.
Then with the card in the Note 2, go to settings, storage, and format the card.
Once that's done, copy the data back from the PC to the card.
That's what I did when I got it then I formatted my SD card through my PC with fat 32 and same problem

You should be able to move and delete files by using the my files apps that samsung installed on the note 2.. if so it's a permissions problem (I know it is for me, but I'm being too lazy to fix it at the moment). Back your /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml file in root explorer first just in case...
Here's the fix I used on my galaxy tab 7 plus.

I can't post a link to the original post on another forum that worked for me so I will quote it:
Simple solution for external sdcard write access on Android 3.2...if you're rooted
I've found a simple solution for gaining write access to the external sdcard (/mnt/sdcard2) on Android 3.2. The sdcard is mounted r/w, but the owning group is media_rw which is linked to the WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE permission. Unfortunately, this permission was not required for access to the external sdcard prior to 3.2 so most file management utilities do not request it when they run...meaning they only have read access to the card.
The simple solution, if you're rooted, is as follows:
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions and make sure you have mounted the file system r/w.
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart your tablet.
After this change, any apps that request the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission (which includes almost anything that access either of the sdcards) will gain group membership in both sdcard_rw AND media_rw, giving them r/w access to both sdcard filesystems.

The problem is very strange I can sometimes move files to the SD card but most times I cant. When I try to move larger files it almost always fails or it moves and then the file name changes to that gibbirish in the picture above. I set the download directory in the browser to the extsd card and it will save small files like pictures but when I try to download anything large it fails and says there insufficient space.

How big are these files? Fat32 has a file size limit of 4GB if the file is bigger than that it will not work. If you need above 4GB file size support reformat the microsd card exfat.
The files are movies between 700mb and 1.6 GB and once I was able to move a 700mb movie and later that night I moved some music over and while I was watching the movie the music started playing and the movie wouldn't.

I have dropbox and love it (50GB free) :woohoo:
On JB roms I can't export to external SD card (I can export to internal but I prefer to use external for DB)
on GB rom the path for external SD card is accessed within internal SD card i.e. sdcard/extsdcard/ (or something similar)
So, is there anyway to get Dropbox to see external SD card on JB?? (NB, it does see folders if you create new folder from within the app, but it doesn't see any other folders [apart from clockworkmod for some reason])
-=or=- is there a way to change the JB path for ext sdcard to be accessed from within the internal storage??
PS - I do just manually move things from internal to external... but I'm not getting any younger doing it

Btw you can use Astro File Manager. It can access both sd card and dropbox as folders and simple copy/paste will work. Just tested

I dunno... Could it be related to a specific ROM? I have no problem at all accessing both int and ext SD cards from Dropbox "export" function (they are listed as internal storage and SD card respectively), and can see all folders on either storage. Running Disaster v.10 (stock-based LSD).
Look at dropsync ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...e=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=dropsync) I think it does what your after.

All. Whoa.
This is something JB does to the file structure.
Dont start deleting nothing. Storage under root points to sdcard0. If you pick sd card under root you get these options to get to external sd.
Sdcard0 is your internal storage
Extsdcard is your micro sd card
The others I'm not sure but there is no harm....unless you delete all your files.

Oh don't worry I won't delete my internal or external memory. I tried deleting usb f but nothing happen.
It's a mystery!
I have the exact same file structure listed for my "storage" also. My guess the usbdrives are nothing more than predefined locations for usb OTG if connected. I would think that we all SHOULD have the same structure setup for our storage (sdcard0=internal storage and extsdcard=external sd card) if we updated correctly.
It reminds me of "My Computer" on your PC. It too shows all your drives and the placeholders also for your flash memory.
All my photos are stored on my SD card. I decided to organize the gallery and move pictures into respective folders to help find them easier. By doing this the phone moved the pictures from the SD card to the internal storage. I started poking around the phone and noticed it created a "Pictures" folder that can't be moved back to the SD card, or at least I can't figure it out. Can anyone help figure out how to overcome this idiosyncrasy of this phone?

I'm not following. Can you please elaborate? The folder that is created is called "Pictures" it is located on ES File Explore device/sdcard/pictures. That folder is what I'm wanting to move. When I try the method above and long press on the folder it selects it. I then hit more and select move to and select xtsdcard and it starts to move. the sdcard cero is the internal sdcard.

Phone is not rooted. I have the camera set to put the photos on the sd card and it does and has. Once I went through and started moving the pictures from the camera roll and into specified albums those albums and photos within those albums get moved off of the sd card to a folder called pictures on the internal storage on the phone. I'm trying to get all of these albums and pictures moved back to the SD card with the other pictures and videos that are in the sd card currently.
ok,try to move those pictures to the ext sdcard folder where are located the pictures.
Whenever I try to move that folder I get an error "task is failed". The folder appears to be locked.

In side of the pictures folder is about 30 folders that are named after the albums I have named the pictures. In side of those folders are anywhere from 2-110 photos. If I move them from within their folder they won't be in that album anymore.
It appears I am able to move the folders inside of the pictures folder but not the picture folder itself. I am currently moving the folders one by one. I will report what happens when I move them all.
Ok I figured it out. Thanks for the suggestions. There was a folder/album that I named based on the piece of equipment I had taken pictures of from work. The name had a "-" in it so the name XX-XXX was causing an issue and seemingly the source of all my problems. I deleted the hyphen and just named it XX XXX and it all moved over. Weird as I had stuff named with commas and exclamation marks etc.
good.
