Hello, first post here. Pretty new to the whole smartphone thing. Trying to get the allshare, specifically the screen share to work with my tv. I have an ethernet cord plugged into a samsung tv with allshare with the other end going into a wireless router. The phone and tv find each other and I can stream a movie without a problem. When I go down to the screen share option in the settings it says no device detected. I spoke with samsung a couple of times about it and they said the only way for that to work is with one of their wireless dongles. I find that hard to believe that I can stream movies but not share the screen but I'm also new at this so I was wondering if you had any insight. Thanks in advance
DLNA isn't made for screen sharing. It's just not...I've been using DLNA for a good while before I got a smartphone with that capability. It's really apples and oranges.
i don't understand why in the tv manual it would say that you could though. Just that my phone needs to have screen share on it. was hoping to browse the internet on my tv or play some emulators on it. has anyone else been able to do that with this phone?
ndavis, it seems you are thinking of the phone's tv out feature via 3.5 mm jack. You can't run emulators over DLNA.
i've been trying to figure out how to play videos on the phone (from my pc). the phone sees the videos, but when i try to stream them, it says "unsupported file format". I know that the file is supported because if i physically download it to my phone, it plays fine. Any ideas?
So, i searched and could not find was i what looking for...
Here is what i would like:
1) PC with movie on harddisc (and for instance tversitiy)
2) stream to galaxy tab (have it working with skifta/rockplayer)
3) connect galaxy tab to tv with HDMI connection
Result --> play movie from pc on tv via wifi
O, and what would be great even greater --> use my HTC desire android phone as a remote control (like pausing and fast forward)
What do you guys think.... is this possible????
you could do that with ES files Explorer
- install ES
- select the folders you want to share on Windows
- open ES files and click LAN then MENU--> NEW--> SCANNER--> it should display your computer with the local IP as name (no need to wait for the scan to end just click BACK)
- click on the media file to open and choose stock player to read it
- you know the rest !
if a file doesnt open with a simple press, just make a long press and select "open as" and select whatever it is
not exactly what i ment.
I know how to play movies on my galaxy tab.... question is, can i play these movie also on tv with a hdmi adapter? And next... could i use my htc desire as a remote controle to use?

1. You would need an HDMI cable that you can connect to your tv and tab. But as far as I know and can find out the Galaxy doesn't have or support HDMI output.
See the specs here: http://gadgetian.com/10288/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-specs-price-2/
It could be possible to do if you can find a HDMI mirroring app like the one I use for my eVo4g, as far as I know their isn't one that would work on Honeycomb.
2. As for using your Desire as a remote, you'd have to find a app that could control what ever media player you use, either through wifi or bluetooth. You might be able to find one on the market. You could also try one of those remote desktop apps on the market.

If your tv supports DLNA push then you can use Skifta to stream to tv without any wires.
I don't have a tv with DLNA support, so i connected my tv to pc as a secondary display and i use Skifta basically as a remote control. I use windows built in media server, it supports DLNA push on win7.

Skifta is on my tablet, i use it to browse my movie library (it's on my PC) and select play to PC (it outputs picture to my TV). Hope this makes sense, English is not my native language so it's hard for me to explain it.
Basically i sit on my couch, holding the tablet and using Skifta app to control whats playing on my TV.

You will need to purchase the HDMI dongle that samsung offers. It attaches to the bottom connector of the tab. Just like how the IPad's do.

Hi there cut to the chase.
Issue 1
-----------
I have various laptops / PC with Serviio installed happily streaming to my TV (Samsung 5 Series)
With my old stock ROM (4.2 I think) connecting to the TV was no issue, start video in stock app then click the Allshare icon in the top left and hey presto video on TV. Them my network (3UK) released the 4.3 update and my phone no longer showed my TV, just hung at detecting devices. A couple of times it did work but I have no clue what was different.
I installed BubbleUPNP and that picks up both TV and Laptops so I know the DLNA side of the phone is fine.
I then put various custom ROMs on and found myself more comfortable with Revolutionary S5 and it worked, connected to TV everything okay. Since the first time it will not pick up the TV.
Issue 2
----------
With the Revolutionary S5, there is the S5 video app and that shows Personal, Download and Devices in the top tabs. If I chose Devices it lists my Serviio installations but gives me the message "After you have shared videos on the connected devices they will appear here"
But they are shared as my TV, BubbleUpnp and various other DLNA apps/ programs can play the files.
Does anyone know of any solutions to these ? Or am I stuck using a third party app to play media from my SAMSUNG phone to my SAMSUNG TV ?!
Cheers
Hey guys, does anybody know of an app or a method that will allow me to stream video (not YouTube or Netflix) to my Vizio Smart TV? It's a really new TV with all kinds of features...I know I could simply hook up my MacBook to an HDMI port or even stream video via Apple TV, but I don't usually have those things in my living room. I'm just basically hoping to be able to stream a movie playing from an app like Showbox(or something similar to) to my TV, without any wiring. Samsung's screen mirroring feature would be ideal...if it wasn't limited to ONLY working with other Samsung products Anyways...please, if you can let me know of anything you've heard of, or have used that might make this possible, it would be greatly appreciated!!:fingers-crossed:
Unless Vizio has some type of app for their TV that I never heard of, there needs to be hardware plugged into the TV that receives the stream. Cheapest and easiest way to do this with android is a Chromecast, $35 bucks, I believe it can or soon will be able to fully mirror your screen no special root app required.
you can use the mdl to hdmi adapter from Sammy and keep a spare (but hidden) hdmi cable plugged into the tv. As far as wireless Chromcast
Did you find a solution?
Did you find an App solution for this? I recently purchased a Vizio and looking for the same?
Can some one help me play videos from phone to my vizo 70 inch smart tv I've tried everything the closest thing I've come up with is I media share but it doesn't allow me to watch it always states video, audio not supported
You need something on the TV Side - I used Fire TV stick
Hi
Going on holiday and have a Seagate Wireless plus harddrive that makes a Wifi network the wife and kids's tablets connect to.
Have a 1 year old that also likes to watch cartoons while driving.
Problem is, he is in the back seat and the wife is in the front and he is not old enough to select movies himself.
So...I need some app that i can install on the tablet he is using and the wife's tablet so she can get his screen on her tablet and select movies.
Basically just a remote desktop for android devices.
Have found numerous remote desktop app's but they all enable me to use my tablet to remote desktop to a PC, not another android.
Anyone know what app i will need :fingers-crossed:
